I arrive randomly on tumblr to ask this to fellow dm’s.

I am about to start a new homebrew dnd campaign. There’s a bunch of moving parts, but one of the main things is the literal embodiment of Evil. Evil is an ancient titan, but has taken the form of a human woman to follow the party around for ✨reasons✨. She is literally the concept of evil in a physical form. What if my party members used a detection spell to detect a kind of thing such as a fiend. Would she be a fiend? What would she be classified as?

Would it be bad to ghost my players and abandon the campaign at this point?

The newest example out of the countless others:

The one player that actually cares: “Are we ready to start at the time we planned at least five days ago?”

This was about ten minutes before the time, by the way. We were both on and ready.

“Well, the other player wanted to hang out with a friend and I was about to start a show I recorded.”

“I’m going to play ps5 while we play dnd”

I haven’t seen anyone talk about how Kinger and Gangle have talked about their past. They’re not supposed to remember anything before the Circus, right? Kinger mentioned his studies and Gangle mentioned a job she had. I also think she basically said her backstory too. About how she wanted to draw manga, but worked at a fast food place instead, giving up on her dreams. I don’t have any theories. I just wanted to point it out.

Also, did something happen to Jax in the newest episode? There was that very dramatic scene that I won’t go into because of spoilers. But, it seems as though nothing really came from it. Maybe it was to just drive home how insane working there was. Or maybe it did have an effect on Jax. He seemed a bit nicer..Though, that could be because he is absolutely done too.

Fellow dm’s, how would you react if you made a side quest for your players and throw in some clues and hints for the main plot, but your players act annoyed and do whatever they can to get to the next important place in the story even by stating that they are suddenly there?

For some context, my players are currently traveling to an npc’s house. They were sent a letter by one they really want to kill. That’s fair. He’s not a good person. They needed to get to his house though. However, they are on the opposite side of the kingdom. So, I made a side quest where they come across a cabin and meet the mayor of a town they’ve been at before. The session ended up falling around the same day that they met the mayor last year in real life time so I thought it would be a cute callback.

Anyways, the mayor claims her husband is acting strange and thinks he’s a changeling. After investigating, the players realize the twist: the mayor is the changeling. Once they kill the changeling, the husband who was made very ill asks the group to help him find his wife because she escaped into the woods. They of course huff and puff. To keep my players happy, I made this part short and simple. They then continue to a market in an open field.

When they travel, I like to ask if they do anything. They said they don’t want to and insist that we hurry up and continue. Luckily, they became a bit more interested during this section due to an npc that they watched die showing up alive. Well, two found it interesting. There’s one that never really does much. He makes comments about how he’s falling asleep, playing on his xbox, or doing something else. We voice chat on Discord, so I’m actually not sure if he’s joking or not. He also yells at me whenever he makes a bad roll.

They finish the market section. My plan was to have the nilbog show up again. They’ve met her a couple times now. She was going to drop another hint to an important plot point.

Basically, one of my players is the chosen of Lathander. She does not know this. They have met the chosen of Shar before. Plot twist, he was a priest of Lathander after losing his memory. At one point, the nilbog got on top of him to be at eye level with the others and said “The chosen of Shar is never far.” They later learned that he was the chosen of Shar a couple sessions later. I was going to have the nilbog do the same thing with that player and say Lathander instead and see if they catch it.

Anyways, instead they kept asking if they’re at the house yet. They kept complaining about stupid side quests. I had to stop for a moment and they continued to talk about this and that. Mostly stuff about the Lion King. I ended up telling them that they made it to the house and decided to stop the hints and any filler I had. I stopped the session there since I didn’t have anything else.

I’m not sure if I should be upset about it. I’m just going through a lot right now. Someone I’m close to is very sick and there’s other stuff.

TL;DR: I’m done with dnd. Time to speed run this campaign.

How do I tell my dnd players that I just can’t do it anymore?

This is my first campaign as a dm. I really loved creating it and playing it. But, I’m just so tired now. Too many personal things have happened during this campaign. My other players are so excited to start again, but my grief comes from another one. I totally understand that dnd shouldn’t come first, but it still hurts me so badly when she cancels to go see a movie (even though we knew her schedule was wide open at the time) or hang out with other friends. We had to take an entire month off for her and now she wants to keep tomorrow’s session only 2 hours so she could hang out with her boyfriend. Like I said, it shouldn’t hurt that much. I used to spend the time from when we ended to right before the next session making the session. Now, I barely write notes. I just can’t do it anymore. I’m basically teleporting them from one important location to the next since we’re almost done anyways and I’m speed running them to the end so I never have to do dnd again.

Is the new Deadpool worth watching?

I don’t keep up with Deadpool or many Marvel movies now unless it’s overall important to the MCU. I heard Mobius or Loki might appear, but I’m not sure. I would watch it if they play a big enough part and not just a cameo. So, should I watch it? Thanks

Do you ever rewatch something from a certain part of your life and you suddenly *feel* like you’re there again?

I’m rewatching scenes from Season 1 of the Animaniacs reboot and I feel like I’m back in 2020. I moved far away to college and to a state that I never lived in before and knew no one in. It was also during quarantine and all my classes were online. As a young adult with a life such as mine, I had no idea what I was doing. I had roommates, but was terribly afraid of them for unknown reasons. I became really lonely and somewhat frightened. Yet, at the same time, I was excited about this new opportunity and I wanted to see where this new life would go. My only “friends” at the time were Animaniacs, Markiplier, and Danganronpa. I really wanted to meet someone who was at least into one of these things, but with quarantine, it was hard. Then, classes started back up on campus, and I met multiple friends who were into all three. I also used these medias to inspire myself to get out a bit. I gain the confidence to get both groceries and try trapeze. I can also taste the food I ate perfectly again. Weird. Anyways, I was just reminded of different times. I’m preparing to make another decision that will put me in a totally different spot and timeline depending on which I pick.

Your best friends are here and they want to play games. Sure! All the problems are magically fixed by unicorns and rainbows and nothing is ever wrong. All your friends are here and are playing with the squishy seals.
