Ok hear me out on this hc. As much as the classic trope of Bruce's kids not listening to him and making fun of him is hilarious, I like to think he still has power over them. Like the classic dad look.

Anytime they screw up or fuck around Bruce is either exasperated, ready to lecture or just plain tired and annoyed, always fond of them. But once in a while, when a line is accidentally crossed, Bruce has this look on his face that could instantly shut them up.

It's not a batglare or his classic reprimanding look. It's Bruce's face fully expressing the utter fury and cold warning he intends to convey. And it's not prolonged. It passes through his face in a millisecond, but it's more than enough for the batlings to instantly get their shit together. A face that screamed he was scared, he was worried, and he was ANGRY angry.

Like they could be screwing around or pulling a stunt in general and they'd usually expect Bruce to either side eye them or tell them off in his usual tired voice. What they didn't expect was the cold warning stare they got that shot chills down their spine. Everyone has faced this at least once, and every single one of them tries their best to stay vigilant not to get that look again. It's not really fear that strikes them so strongly, but guilt.

Perhaps he did something that made him nearly lose his life, but the first time Dick got that look he was too frozen in shock to cry. It was just a split second, but a split second was more than enough for him to see and understand he screwed up big time. He proceeds to catch the look several more times in the following years and everytime it still takes a while for him to shake it out of his mind. They've talked to each other about it and have collectively agreed that look means "pack your shit".

Idk, I've never been a fan of the overly glorified Alfred Pennyworth being the one person the family fears and respects. Like yes, he's very well respected and adored by the family. But Bruce is their father (or at least parental figure/mentor), a huge pillar in their lives by more miles than Alfred could ever be. And I just like the idea of Bruce, despite being made somewhat of a joke to his batlings, is still capable of reining them in.

Feel free to disagree, it's just a hc. But I like it.
