Good had defeated evil. The war was over. Peace had been restored.                                         Or so they had all thought.

Just when the Wizarding World thought they had escaped the unrelenting suffering brought about by the Second Wizarding War, the Ministry of Magic made a decision that would affect the entire wizarding community of Britain, dragging them right back into perpetual distress.

After many witches and wizards sacrificed their health, sanity, loved ones, or for some, even their lives; the council of wizards that govern magical Britain decided that, for the greater good, they should sacrifice one more thing. Their choice.

The choice of spouse, whether one would have one at all, is a decidedly personal one. A spouse can change the course of one’s life, or even, say, determine one’s fate. It’s a very important choice, indeed.

Choices are a novelty that seem unattainable to the adults of the wizarding world. After years of being controlled by fear of being wiped out by the Dark Arts, why should they expect to be given freedom by those whose role is to protect their society?

Who should value freedom when they have been given the honor of leading the movement to save the magical population? Certainly not the young witches and wizards who are of age at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They’ll bear their responsibility with poise and pride, right?

In Forced Fates, we’ll explore how young adults, who have experienced so much darkness so early in life, would handle having their lives overturned, yet again, by a law that demands every magical persons, over the age of seventeen, must arrange plans to enter into matrimonial unions that will produce a generation of witches and wizards stronger than any that have come before.

This RP will take place in our discord server in an advanced literate style of writing. Full list of rules and an expanded plot can be found in the server as well as a full list of characters, both taken and available.

We have many people already, canon and oc, but some canon characters that are still available are:

“It’s a wedding, Draco. We have to say vows,” Cassie sighed, from her spot at her desk. Every time they tried to discuss wedding plans, they ended up in this argument.

“What’s the point in making promises we don’t know we’re going to keep?” he nearly groaned. He stood in front of the fireplace, one arm crossed over his chest, supporting his other arm that held his fingers pressed to the bridge of his nose.

Cassie tossed the quill down onto the parchment, on which she had been jotting the decisions they made, the nib splattering droplets of black ink on the page. “How many times do I have to tell you? I may not have chosen to marry you, but I am marrying you. I mean to keep my promises.” She left the soiled paper on the desk and crossed to him. Stopping just an arm's reach away, she could see the way the fire caused shadows to dance over the side of his face.

“You’re going to keep your promises?” he asked, his tone verging on disbelief. He dropped his fingers from his nose, tucking them into the crook of his folded arm. Cassie knew he was holding himself at a distance like she had done for so long; his body turned away from her, his arms folded over his chest.

“Yes,” she breathed.

“For better, and for worse?”

“Yes.”

“In sickness, and in health?” he asked, turning to look at her, an eyebrow raised.

“Yes, Draco,” she responded, annoyance seeping into her tone.

“To love and to cherish, until death do us part?” His eyes bore into her, searching, pleading for the answer he wanted. If she would just tip, he would follow her into that terrifying oblivion that lay below.

“Until death do us part,” she said confidently. When his expectant look didn’t falter, she lowered her eyes from his, studying the pattern on the rug.

His scoff hit her like a punch to the gut as he brushed past her, leaving her alone by the fireplace.

She covered the short distance to the small sofa before the fire and settled on it. Her elbows found her knees, and she buried her face in her hands. She rubbed at her face before dragging her hands through her hair and clasping them behind her neck, her shoulders finding the backrest of the couch.

For a moment, they were silent, but the room still buzzed with energy between them. Cassie collapsed on the couch and Draco leaning against one post of their four-poster bed.

“We’ve talked about this,” Cassie said tiredly. Even though she no longer thought she would disparage Sebastian's memory by marrying Draco, she was terrified of putting her heart on the line again when she had no guarantee that he would do the same.

How she couldn’t see it in his face, the way his eyes begged her to give him something to hold on to, hope for, he didn’t know.

“Yes, Cassie, we’ve talked about it. You’ve told me you’re not strong enough to try again,” he said, referring to their earlier conversation about her past, his dubiety evident from his inflection.

“I would if you would just ask me to!” she blustered, turning to look at his back, surprising even herself that she hoped he would turn around and do just that.

When he didn’t respond, she stood from the couch and moved to lean her forehead on the mantle of the fireplace. As they stood there, backs to each other across the room, she could see her entire future in him at that moment. A future of civility in public and anguish in private. They would be tied together with an invisible string forever, constantly pulling away from each other, only coming together in the brief moments of palliation when the memories become too much.

She turned to look at him, getting his profile now that he had turned to rest his back against the post. She waited. She hoped he would say something. She had just given him the perfect opportunity.

Cassie threw her hands up in the air, exasperated, and began pacing the front of their room, from fireplace to door to desk and back again. She chewed at the long nail of her thumb as she debated her next words. Her stomach churned as she thought about them, what the words would mean when they had no choice but to be married. Calling off the wedding wasn’t an option, and it would make for a very awkward ceremony if they couldn’t even look at each other.

Finally, she spoke as she crossed back and forth, her words coming out fast and feverish, "You were right. I'm not strong, neither am I brave. But I'm braver than you right now, because I'm ready for this to be finally over. Please stop toying with my feelings. Either kiss me, or break my hea–"

"Stop moving then," Draco said in a low voice, pushing off from the bedpost. He crossed the room and met her where she had stopped at his command in front of the fireplace. His long strides making quick work of the trip, Cassie barely had a second to think before she was towered over by the blonde. His hands found a home on either side of her face. His tender thumbs caressed her cheeks. His long fingers were cold on her nape. After a miniscule moment of hesitation in which Draco feared what this change would mean, feared she hadn’t meant what she said, and most of all feared she would push him away, he ultimately lowered his lips to hers. Allowing them to meet gently, he gave her the chance to change her mind, to pull her head out of his gentle grip, and when she didn’t, when instead she lifted herself onto her toes, hands braced on his chest, to push herself further into him, he melted.

His hands brushed behind her, traveling down her spine until they came to rest at her waist. Cassie’s head tilted, their mouths finding each other in a new way. She pushed her hands up his chest and let them wrap around his neck, one hand finding its way into his silky platinum hair.

He groaned against her mouth when she curled her fingers in his hair, her nails lightly scraping his scalp.

Cassie expected him to take things deeper, but instead he pushed lightly on her waist, pulling his lips from hers, resting his forehead on hers. She furrowed her brows, about to ask what she had done wrong, when he smiled, a soft laugh escaping.

Cassie gazed with wonder into his closed eyes as he spoke with anticipation. "I'm not ready for this to be over." He lazily pressed his lips to hers again. "I'm ready," and another quick kiss, "to finally be real with you, Cassie," he pulled his forehead from hers and she cursed the free space between them as he ran his knuckles down her cheek, "would you let me be?"

Cassie scoffed playfully, her arms resting on his shoulders, hand back to mussing his hair atop his head.

“Only if you promise me.”

Draco smirked, a rich laugh dying in the back of his throat as he lowered his head to hers again. Cassie felt like she might melt into a puddle on the floor, but Draco held her anchored securely with an arm looped around her waist, the other sliding into her hair from the nape of her neck. He let his fingers lightly scrape as he pushed them up further, and Cassie understood why he had groaned earlier when each graze sent a rush of tingles throughout her head. She smiled into their kiss. Being real meant a very real chance of being hurt, but as she swayed in Draco’s arms while they explored each other for the first time, it didn’t seem so scary.

For too long before the war, witches and wizards have struggled to bear more magical children, and even fewer witches and wizards are being born to muggles. Hence, the Marriage Law.

The Ministry deems it necessary to ensure the future of the Magical Population by expediting what, in their eyes, would happen anyways. So the law is set forth, all witches and wizards of marriageable age must be paired, one man and one woman, to be married and have at least one child. The Ministry sets forth a timeline all of Britain's Wizarding Population must adhere to and that includes the seventh years at Hogwarts.

Even the returning students of Harry Potter's year, who have been asked to return to the school for a final year so they may receive their final year of magical training and take their NEWT exams.

And so Harry Potter and his friends, and possible enemies, return to Hogwarts, joining the students of the last sixth year, to be come seventh years once more, except this time they're all engaged.

summary: cassie unknowingly makes draco jealous

"Do you have to use that so flippantly?" Draco scrutinized.

Cassie laid her quill flat on tabletop beside the book she had been reading before angling her head at the blonde sitting across from her, her brows meeting at the scrunched lines above her nose. "Pardon?" She stared at him expectantly, genuinely confused about what he was getting at. The pair got some shushes from their fellow students in the library.

"I just watched you drop your quill, and when that twit," he gestured sharply to the boy that had just walked away from their table, "stopped to pick it up and hand it to you, your response was, and I quote, 'You're my hero. I love you.'" A more vehement sshhhh.

Heat rose to her face, inevitably coloring her cheeks a rosy hue. She honestly hadn't given any thought to her response just then, it had been like a reflex response to the situation. Her chin leveled out and dipped a bit. The face-framing pieces of hair around her temple swung free from their swept up pin, obscuring her face slightly.

"I just–" her voice trailed off, words failing her. "Well, I didn't–It wasn't like I..." When she ran out of starts, she looked up into his cool grey eyes. She had looked up with a furrowed brow and a pursed lips, contrition written all over her face, but one look at his face, which wasn't even directed at her, but instead eyeing the honey-haired boy that sat in a chair a ways away with his back to them had Cassie suppressing a smile.

Her failed suppression pulled her mouth into an upside-down smile. Her head once again found that gentle tilt at the levity of Draco's face, staring down this stranger, eyes narrowed into a glower.

"Draco," Cassie uttered softly, calling for his attention.

He turned back toward her, his eyes the last to follow, and they widen slightly when they met her gaze. He lifted his brows in question, wondering why she had addressed him.

"I'm sorry," she offered, her voice remaining low, trying not to be shushed by anyone else. She offered a reassuring look as she reached her hand across the open table between them. The back of her hand resting on the wood, her palm exposed to him.

His face returned to his usual aloof countenance and shrugged. "What do I care if you love Golden Retriever over there?" he challenged and yet his fingers found her palm and gently traced it with winding patterns. His eyes fell back into the pages if the book he'd been perusing.

Cassie recognized the playfulness in his tone and her lips curved into a wide smile. She caught his idly roving digits in her own, giving a small squeeze asking for his eyes again.

His eyes lifted to hers expectantly. "I love you," she whispered, barely loud enough for him to hear. This time he knew she meant it.

summary: cassie struggles to pick an outfit. andromeda helps her sister out...eventually.

length: 1200 words

Cassie had pulled almost every article of clothing she had packed back out of her trunk. Her voice groaned in harmony with the groan of the aged wood of the armoire door she leaned against as she surveyed her room.

Trunk, to her left, by her bedroom door, splayed open, almost empty. Directly in front of her, every pair of jeans she owned—baggy, straight-legged, and skinny alike—lay sprawled over her pillows at the head of her bed. A similar situation with her skirts, some denim, some boho, some maxi, some mini, was happening at the foot of her bed. Dresses had been ditched entirely, piled to her right in the corner of her room behind her armoire.

The one decision she had been able to make was what top she would wear. A willowy knit sweater of a rich coffee brown with a ribbed crew neckline. The sweater was the perfect length, cutting off right above her hips, in contrast to its too-long sleeves, which she rolled up twice to sit nicely at her wrists.

Cassie pushed her back off the front of her wardrobe then approached her pile of jeans; picking up pair by pair until she found her light washed pair that fit perfectly through her upper thigh then loosely hung around her legs—the perfect length to kiss the floor behind her heel.

She slid them over her pyjama shorts, turning to the cheval glass beside her armoire and examining the outfit. She tried tucking the sweater in the front, then tucking it all the way around before pulling it all free with a breathy huff.

She shed the jeans and picked through her skirts. She picked up a cream skirt that was one of her favorites, simply because when she turned, even just the slightest bit, the hem of the skirt would flare at the motion following her direction. She turned back to the angled mirror and tried every style of tuck and fold for her sweater again.

She shed the skirt, this sigh heavier than the previous. She stood in front of her mirror contemplating, jeans in one hand and skirt in the other, staring at each option until all she could see were the flaws in the clothing. Her hands released the clothing and covered her face, pressing down, painfully smashing her nose in the process.

Nothing was going right. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. This summer was going to be it, the summer Sebastian finally admitted what everyone knew he felt for her. Cassie thought he might've done it at the end of the spring semester last year, but with the excitement of Umbridge being dismissed and Dumbledore returning, the opportunity hadn't presented itself.

So Cassie had been sure that summer would be it. Since the summer holiday after their first year at Hogwarts, Sebastian had been devoted to their communications, sending a weekly letter, even if Cassie hadn't had time to respond. For three summers now, Sebastian and Cassie had been in constant contact until they saw each other again in September.

Every summer except this one. Sebastian had barely sent four letters in response to her dozen over the two months they'd been on holiday. And now, in just under two hours, she would see him again at King's Cross, after barely speaking over summer. Naturally, Cassie had to look perfect for the occasion. Hence this fashion catastrophe.

Cassie half groaned half yelled through her palms, allowing the sound to use all the air she had in her lungs, until it was nothing more than vocal fry.

A sharp double tap on her door quieted her.

"What?"

"Cassie, why are you making that noise? It's annoying," her sister's voice floated through the door, her tone teasing.

"Come in." Cassie turned her body towards the door, splitting her fingers enough to see her sister enter through the slits.

"Uh, what is going on in here?" Andromeda drawled, eyebrows raised high and mouth gaping.

Cassie scoffed, dropping her hands from her face. "Just doing a little redecorating. Thought I'd try a new style. Avant-garde, no?"

The older girl laughed at her little sister's remark. "Is that what your sweater, pyjama combo is too?" Andromeda ventured further into the room, finding a spot on the bed that wasn't garment-clad. "A new style? Because that," she gestured to Cassie's outfit as she crossed her legs under themselves on the bed, "I would call avant-garde."

"Annie," Cassie whined her sister's name. "Now is not the time for teasing. Now is the time to help your sister, who you love so dearly, pick her outfit for the train today."

Cassie retrieved the two options from where they rested by her feet as Andromeda shook her head at her.

"I see. A little nervous, are we?" Andromeda wiggled her eyebrows at her sister, saying in a singsong voice, "To see Sebastian?"

Cassie stared down her sister who was giving her a cheeky smile. "I am not nervous."

Andromeda saw straight through the lofty expression on Cassie's face. "Mhmm," she hummed. "What are those?"

Cassie lifted the options for her sister to get a better view.

"Jeans or skirt?" she asked as she alternated draping the articles at her waist so Andromeda could get an idea.

"Neither, they're both ugly."

"Annie!" Cassie growled, launching the pants at her older sister, who caught them mid-chortle. "Seriously," she pleaded with her sister.

"Okay," Andromeda sighed. "The jeans," she decided, offering them back to Cassie while holding her hand out for the skirt.

Cassie made the exchange but still questioned her sister, "Are you sure?"

"Yes," she assured her. "You don't have to dress to impress. Anyone with eyes can see the boy's mad for you." She made a gesture for Cassie to get dressed before she started folding the skirts to her right. "Plus, it's a long train ride, and you'll want to be comfortable, so jeans, it is," she stated, as self-assured as only an older sister could be.

"Jeans, it is," Cassie repeated as she turned around to see them in the looking glass again. She tucked the front end in her waistband and turned back to her sister for observation.

Andromeda nodded, setting another skirt on the neat pile she'd made. "Yes, and what about that black belt you have? The one with the silver buckle."

"Yes!" Cassie rifled through her trunk, trying not to make any more of a mess, and gave a triumphant cheer when she pulled out the leather accessory, lacing it through her belt loops.

"Alright then." Andromeda glanced at the clock on Cassie's bedside table and winced. "It's getting late; you ought to finish packing, Cassie," she chided as she pushed herself off the bed, careful not to topple her stack of folded laundry.

Her sister smiled sweetly and lifted a hand to the 5 skirts she had folded, saying, "I already did."

Cassie groaned as her sister saw herself out.

Andromeda threw a smirk over her shoulder, wishing Cassie luck, before she closed the door behind her.

Returning back to her mirror for one last inspection of her choices, her chest fluttered at the idea of seeing Sebastian. Who know's what their fifth year might hold for them?
