After months and months of Gideon spewing the most bonkers goth pet names at Harrow, Harrow, on her deathbed, pulls out “first flower of my house.” Was she… trying to reciprocate?

Like she literally says earlier on to Gideon, “You’d better stop it with all this twilit princess garbage because I may start to like it.” I can just see the gears turning in her head. “I like it when she calls ME pet names, therefore the best way to show my affection is to also use a fancy epithet for HER” and then she shot right past “goofy teasing” and landed in “irrefutable romance” territory.

The point about the permeability of the soul is at least in part that we cannot separate love and consumption. You almost always can’t say ‘this is because of the soul juices mingling’ vs ‘this is one of the horrors of love’ and that’s the point.

Is Naberius haunting Ianthe because they grew up together, because they were trained to be two halves of the same whole, because she knew him inside out and there’s a love in that, however violent? Or is it because she’s been using him like a battery and a hand-puppet and a computer program and now he’s threaded up through her. She can’t know! She doesn’t want to know, she refuses to look.

Did Gideon v1 become more militaristic after Pyrhha’s death through osmosis? Or was it because he loved her and trusted her and his first thought in a crisis was What Would Pyrrha Do. Did he love Wake because their programming got jumbled or was it because he met a awful redhead and thought oh, my best friend would have been so stupid for you, she would have been such a wreck…

Did John make the earth angry or did the earth fill John with anger or was it both? Did the love come first or the fury? Does Mercy love her god because Cristabel did or does she do it for the sake of Cristabel? The lyctors all view themselves as living memorials to the dead, of course they’d voice the dead’s thoughts, act out their habits and carry on their infuriating quirks. How else do you remember? You can’t peel apart the analogy and make it all magic or all mundane because soul-permeability coexists with the everyday manacles of affection.

Cam is a hot, strong chick who could absolutely kill Gideon. Which as we know, is one of her types.

i think the thing about kiriona is that she would really love to have come back wrong. she's really trying to have come back wrong. she's heir to the emperor. she claims to just not particularly give a shit anymore. she snaps at people in a way that goes beyond her usual banter. she's really trying to look and act like someone who came back wrong.

but she didn't. she didn't and she doesn't know what to do with that. her impluse is to start unbuttoning her jacket for paul; she has to catch herself at the last second. she runs around looking for aiglamene, even though she has another goal, and she only starts masking with jokes again after she's certain aiglamene is safe.

she expected killing crux to feel good. it didn't feel good. why didn't it feel good?

gideon just has no idea how to come to terms with the fact that she came back fine and whole and just as emotional as she was before. idk i don't really know what my point is here i'm just going a little insane over the idea that gideon didn't come back wrong, but it would be so much easier for her if she had.

well i HAVE to ask about the demon exorcising!! are you winning?

Wow, extremely hilariously, writing this fic (and getting stuck on certain scenes) made me realize I needed to go back to therapy. Is that winning? Am I winning? Who's to say.

It started as a thought experiment where I asked myself what would make me want to read a fic where the characters had kids and it was this-- Harrow has kids and she *fucking hates it.*

That grew into Harrow being stuck in a comphet marriage with Ortus because of her religious upbringing and community pressure and lots of shame about her schizophrenia and needing help. She meets Pal and Cam and learns about bisexuality and eventually accepts she's a lesbian and of course she kisses Gideon Nav at some point. (I mean come on.)

Lots of heavy topics, CWs out the wazoo, working out my own issues with the help of poor little skrungly Harrowhark Nonagesimus.
