Coming in November 2024

For the past four years, I have spent November publishing one story from different fandoms on a daily basis over at archiveofourown.org under my pen name "Sehin" from the 1st to the 30th. The first time was simply whatever I came up with on the day and no editing whatsoever. Since then, I've been planning ahead of time and last year I spent October writing all of them. I have continued that trend for this year too and am rather excited with the stories I have set up this year.

The stories range from fluff to AUs to canon compliant to my personal headcanons to OC inserts to the Explicit Smut I know quite a few people enjoy. What I most enjoy are any comments people make and I love sharing stuff with others. Heck, those encourage me more to write more than anything else and even change some of what I've been writing. I can only edit so much personally despite having a Cert IV in Professional Writing and Editing myself and had studied most of the Diploma before life sent me in another direction.

As to this years chosen stories, well here is what is coming each day this year (at least as of October 10th 2024 and this may change but I'll just add to this post in advance):

Update (22nd Oct '24): All finished. First drafts anyway. Got all week to edit them and add on to the drafts in certain places.

Also there has been a slight change:

27th November will be The Shadowhunter Chronicles story while the 29th November will be an Original Work (5,686 words). That was a fun one to write. And creepy even for me.

When a fanfic surprises you on Word Count

This month I'm working on my 30 fanfics for November which I post on Ao3 under "Sehin" and today I just did Nov 5th entry and was glad I decided to do it now instead of last night after coming home from work. Because it shocked me.

I started it at 4.15pm and finished around 6.55pm, much to my surprise. I went through one Nightwish album and one Tarja album on my stereo and just started an Within Temptation album as I was finished, since listening to music helps time slip by, and I came to a total word count of:

4,420 words.

For an Attack on Titan story. Medieval-ish setting. From the POV of Zeke, whom I despise beyond all belief. And not how I originally intended it to go but whatever. I'll just save Eren's POV for next time. Heck, I might just change the original second story (Eren and Armin setting up Mikasa on a date with Jean in a modern AU) just to do the other side of this story. Who knows. I've already changed original story ideas for at least one so far and removed a couple of stories because the ideas weren't working as intended in my head to be replaced by others.

I really like this story I just did and hope readers will too.

Sasuke briefly showed up in 171, though didn't speak. I can only imagine him just huffing and saying to Orochimaru: "Let's go, the putrid stench is not worth any more of my time."

And it's got me thinking (headcanon ahead), how disgusted Sasuke was being there. He didn't care for Orochimaru's experiments and yet here he was, being shown off to one of the creep's pawns. Is it any wonder after three years he had enough and killed Orochimaru.

Rewatching Naruto and...well...

So I decided this year to sit down and rewatch Naruto from the beginning and recently have decided to blast through it (mostly to reconnect with my OC but also to explore things I missed in the intervening years). Today (Mon 10th June 2024), I blew through six discs (Episodes 107 to 135) -- around 8 to 10 hours of watching.

And boy, was it intense.

I knew this arc would be hard. I just never realised how hard it really would be. To see Naruto and Sasuke come to blows, Sakura in the middle and Kakashi being pulled in too many directions due to the loss of so many Leaf ninja during the Sand/Sound attack, was hard to see. But to know that last glimmer of hope for Sasuke vanished because of the Sound Four ended up giving Team 7 three-four years of pain and misery that could've been prevented if things were different.

In the end, despite all those attempts by Naruto, Shikamaru, Choji, Neji, Kiba and Akamaru, Lee and the Sand Siblings, despite Kakashi ignoring Tsunade after finding out to get there as fast as he could...the outcome was inevitable.

Sasuke left.

Team 7 was broken.

And three to four years of misery ahead for all of them.

You can only imagine how much I, despite being male, was emotional and virtually in tears throughout this arc. We all know what's coming next but can we really hold back in Choji and Neji's fights, Gaara and Lee in fighting Kimimaro, Naruto and Sasuke in the Valley of the End.

Even Sasuke's own struggles to let go and be with his new family instead of pursuing Itachi to its end. But to know that Sasuke couldn't go through with it in killing Naruto in the end, the light that shone on the boy and fading made me think that perhaps if things had been different down the line, Sasuke would've come back to the Leaf. Because he knows that Naruto gave it his all to bring him home and he refused to kill him. They weren't just teammates or even friends. No, they were brothers. Sasuke lost Itachi but he had Naruto. And that was a bond he kept. And it was one that would save him.

It saddens me how much rewatching has hurt. Naruto, Sasuke, Gaara, Neji and Hinata. Their circumstances were out of their control.

Naruto: because of being the jinchuuriki of Kurama and misunderstood because the Third Hokage clearly didn't care enough about him.

Sasuke: because of Itachi making him a pawn in his own game to make his brother into a tool to end his own life (regardless of the reasons why Itachi did it, I show no sympathy for him. Mind-screwing your own brother and damaging him into Orochimaru's clutches didn't help).

Gaara: because Rasa is a d*ck.

Neji and Hinata: two young children caught in circumstances they couldn't fully comprehend because Hiashi had to be a harda** (though I wonder how much his own father, the unnamed elder, didn't help).

I'm glad, despite how emotional I feel (the tears burn my eyes right now), that I decided to do this. Rewatching and blasting through this arc (28 episodes in one day), makes me optimistic for the future as I continue to go through the series (even the fillers because I might as well since I'm being my OC in this as well). The image of young Naruto and young Sasuke using the arms they will lose in the future making that gesture of comradeship will guide me on the way.

I have a busy couple of months ahead since I planned out the remainder of Part I (136-220, plus the two movies) to go through then onward to Shippuden and the 8 movies over the Sundays through Tuesdays until Monday 26th August 2024 since those are my nights off work.

LotF, but by the time Caedus publicly reveals that he's a Sith, everyone who knew Jacen has already figured out that they're dealing with a clone, just because of how out of character it all is for Jacen.

Actually, they're probably pretty sure when he tries to get Tahiri to join him using the temptation of a love interest she's long over.

More sleep deprivation thoughts: The ultimate catharsis in Caedus being a clone and the real Jacen turning up later is Jacen and Jaina maybe eventually getting to a point where they can both look back on Caedus's entire existence and laugh their asses off at how comically stupid he was.
