Help Combat Climate Change

We have a climate crisis and we need to do something about it. This is our planet and once it is gone we will have nothing left. You don't have to go vegan or cut out all electricity to be part of the solution. There are so many simple things you could incorporate into your everyday life that would help, here are some of them:

1. Bring Your Own Reusable Straw

    - You’ve probably heard of this by now, as it's everywhere on social media. You can get a reusable straw for less than 2 dollars and by doing so contribute so much less waste from the drinks you get at Starbucks, your morning coffee, or any other drinks you get. You are also helping our marine animals, as over 100 million of them die each year from plastic.

2. Bring Your Own Tumbler/ Use a Reusable Water Bottle 

   - This goes hand in hand with number one when going out for drinks at Starbucks or anywhere else bring a tumbler and ask them to put your drink in there. Also make an effort to bring a reusable water bottle with you so you can avoid buying plastic ones, which will most likely end up as part of the pollution in our oceans.

3. Generally, Reduce Your Waste

     -Make a conscious effort to reduce your everyday waste, try not to buy plastic packaging, utilize mason jars when grocery shopping, etc. 

4. Cut Down Your Meat Consumption

    - You don't necessarily have to go full vegetarian or vegan, but cutting down your meat consumption even just by a few portions a week really helps. Agriculture is the number one producer of greenhouse gases, despite popular belief. So cutting down on these processed meats does make a difference.

It’s a minor pet peeve, but it is everywhere today so errrr…. please keep in mind that “Rest in Peace”/RIP literally comes from a latin phrase and is a very very deeply Christian expression.

When talking about the departed, Jews say “may their memory be a blessing.”

So please, when talking about a dead person who is Jewish, try to keep in mind that RIP is a Christian phrase.

If any Canadians follow me

On monday Canada begins taxing carbon emissions and, if you’re like me, you may have gotten a text telling you to “fill up on gas before prices go up” and gotten a link to protest the tax. But here’s the thing, this is our planet. This is our lives at stake. Yes, gas prices are going to go up, but you know what that means: people are going to use less gas. Yes, it’s annoying that you have to pay more for things, but it is going to be so, so good for our planet, and if we want to live we need to help save our Earth, and this tax is one way to do that. Please, Try to view it as something that’s going to help our planet, rather than something that’s going to harm us, because we badly need our Earth to live. You CAN use less gas, you CAN help save our planet. So, if you get a text like that, consider not protesting the tax, because it’s so important that we do something to help our Earth. This is a good thing.

All the facts/ statistics below are absolutely unacceptable and we need to educate ourselves on these issues and promote change. All women should have equal rights and the rights to education, freedom and safety.

Educate Yourself

Education is a powerful tool. Please use it.

Before posting on social media, something that may perpetuate harmful stereotypes or ideas related to mental illness, feminism, lgbtq subjects, rape culture or anything else, take just a moment to educate yourself on that topic first.

By posting about something you are not educated on you are contributing to the preconcived ideas and stigmas surrounding these topics.

Please use your access to education to educate yourself before you post. Be part of the solution not the problem.

Multiculturalism as represented in the Media: Why is it Important?

Multicultural representation in the media is extremely important to creating an inclusive and welcoming online society. It is also important as it helps everyone feel like they belong. The more multicultural we can become in our online presence the more we can fight against exclusion and stereotypes, created by previous and current un diverse media.

Many people do not recognize that there is an issue with the current state of diversification within media, from a survey I conducted it was found that 71% of people did not think that there was much of an issue at all. Many ethnicities lack representation in the media, and a lot of the time when they are represented the media does so in a stereotypical way.

These stereotypes can be very harmful. They create a false idea of an entire race which is in no way true or only represents a small percentage of those of that ethnicity. This creates harmful self-images for those being portrayed and can cause other races to have pre-conceived ideas about other people only based on their race.

I encourage everyone to use their personal social media presence to promote the ideas of multiculturalism in the media. Even the smallest action can have a big impact. By sharing this or creating a post of your own you can raise awareness and get others involved.
