This wasn’t the original text for the comic, it was something along the lines of never wanting to change and the caterpillar hoping to change. Then I thought, “do caterpillars actually have to turn into butterflies?”, which led me to look that up and find out that they don’t actually have to, they can live their whole lives as caterpillars instead of growing up to be butterflies (or moths, bummer!). That sounded nice, little Peter Pan bugs, then someone mentioned that it’s possible if they don’t go into metamorphosis, their available food could run out during one of the seasons and they could die that way. Art is learning about life.
