I was thinking about making a fictional world involving dragons and other assorted mythical creatures. What I plan on doing was basing them on already existing ones and changing it up a little. So far, I have found 20 species of dragons. Most of the eastern ones are dragon hybrids like the qulin, longma, and pixiu. I've also noticed African dragons are almost all wyrms and/or sea serpents, which is interesting. So I was wondering if there are any of you who know of a few I missed because it's surprising hard to research. (Haven't decided on using tarasque, and basilisk depictions are too inconsistent that I don't really want to use it. Also not counting cockatrice as a dragon. Might use the p'eng niao.)
Amphiptere
Coatyl
Dragon Turtle
Dragonet
Drake
Fae Dragon
Knucker
Lindwurm
Longma
P'an-Long
Pixiu
Pyrausta
Qilin/Kirin
Sea Serpent
Western Dragon
Wyrm
Wyvern
Ying-long

Very Unofficial Fan Beast for Nightwing part 2.
Leopard vs Clouded Leopard
Leopard: Able to carry baby elephants and rhinos up trees. Will jump out of trees to kill prey.
Tumblr media
Clouded Leopard: Able to climb trees upside down thanks to movable ankles. Can open jaws 90 degrees (most cats only do 70). Has the largest teeth relative to their size.
Tumblr media
(P.S. This won't be a fan beast form without fan suggestions, so if there are animal(s) you think would be better don't be afraid to comment! I'll stop taking suggestions when round 2 starts, but that's weeks away. Hope y'all have a good day!)

In honor of 2024, I will be running an "election" for Nightwing's very unofficial fan beast form.
Our first two animals: the red fox and the grey fox.
The Red Fox
Tumblr media
Intelligent and highly adaptive, these animals thrive in just about any environment.
The Grey or Gray Fox
Tumblr media
The only canine with retractable claws and the ability to climb similar to a cat.
Tumblr media
(Edit: I didn't like the grey fox picture)

This is mainly why I would go with an owl if he were any type of bird. I love irony, and owls.
Okay, so about DC's furry- I mean beast world event in regards to Nightwing. Making him a red fox probably isn't way to go. Personally, I think a great horned owl would be pretty neat. Or a robin, perhaps a songbird. Maybe some kind of cat because they can manipulate prey by mimicking their sounds and their physical abilities. He'd be able to fall mostly without worry since cats are capable of walking away from 10 storie drops. BUT! If dc really wants him to be a type of fox, why not a grey fox? They're the only canines that can climb like cats. I dunno, that's just my two cents.

I was talking about comics the other day with my mom. Mostly pertaining to the character of Nightwing and that he doesn't feel like himself. So she takes me to a shed she has and pulls out these.

So Dick Grayson grew up in a circus, right? And to say he knew more about crowns than the average person wouldn't be too far of a stretch. He probably really likes clowns that's part of the reason in this (hypothetically) scenario he hates the Joker, he's a fake clown. So him being the menace he is uses his knowledge of clowns against the Joker.
Example:
Joker bragging about being The Clown Prince of Crime tm.
A ticked off Nightwing absolutely done with him: Where is your egg?!
Joker: Eh?
Red Hood listening in comms: wtf?
Robin Damian, confused: Why would Joker have an egg?
Nightwing: All clowns have eggs!
Joker, defensively: I have an egg!
Nightwing: Then prove it! Show it to me!
Joker: Uh, got to go!
Nightwing: That's what I thought.

I'm probably the only person who thinks this but Nightwing probably should've ended up with a cat instead of a dog. My reasoning? Mostly biases. But imagine say cat being around 9 to 12, blind, and absolutely not friendly. When Dick tries to take her to a shelter where he learns they'll most likely put her down so he takes the cat home instead. At first he has no idea how to bond with his new pet, she's not like Alfred the cat, and he even gets scratched a few times. Slowly through research and patience Dick gains her trust. Also I think he would be fascinated by how easily she finds her way around despite not being able to see.
But the cat is still hates most other people though. Damian actually feels hurt when the cat hisses at him. He letter makes it his "mission" to win her over. Barbara and the feline do not get along at all. She gets very jealous of the cat but the moment she suggests/demands rehoming "that thing" Dick straight up tells her no and that this is his cat. (He fought very hard for this trust and he won't give it up.) They break up after that, probably. (From what I've seen she's pretty petty.) One day Bruce climbs into his apartment and is promptly attacked by the cat. Dick rushes into the room to find Batman holding the cat as far away from his as possible as his face bleeds from several places. That's when he knows that this is his cat and she'll fight for him like he would for her.
Most dogs love everyone but building that love with a cat is special.

The bat family or batfam is cool concept but in practice doesn't feel like it's done very well. What do I mean by this? Well, it comes at a cost for almost every character except Batman. Dick Grayson is a good example of this. His character progression from the New Teen Titans was him growing independent of Batman and becoming his own person/hero. That's why he became Nightwing. Then Batman writers wanted Dick Grayson back because their comics weren't selling as well. That's why Dick and Kory broke up, it wasn't writers for the Nightwing or Titan comics. They would have gotten married otherwise. (Yes, I'm salty about it.) Instead of a Nightwing that won't stand for any of Bruce's crap we have a Nightwing that folds like a wet paper towel.
How would I implement the Batfam? Simple, only have they get together when something major is going done. Make it an actual big deal and don't have them all together all the time. Have Dick in Blüdhaven or with the Titans, have Jason running around with the Outlaws, and have Tim finally grow out of the Robin mantle. I may not know the other characters well but I'm sure they get sidelined too. Don't use everyone just to prop Ol'Bruce up.

I think when it comes to Dick Grayson and his relationships Barbara is the safest choice and I don't mean that in a good way. There's not a lot to do with it and it only really serves to tie Dick with the Batfam even more. While is even more sad because the original reason Dick became Nightwing in the first place was to step away from Batman.
(Not to mention Barbara got deaged just to be put with Dick meaning she was never a senator.)
In my opinion him and Kory much better couple. There's so much potential there! It's no secret the Titans aren't the biggest Batman fan and vice versa, use it! Instead of making up tension in the Batfam use what's already there. Kory is a princess from another world, there has to be ramifications. And storys. Would her home planet recognize their marriage? It was canon in the 80s comics that Tameran doesn't have divorce so have a story were someone buying for power tries to kill Dick to marry Kory. Heck! Instead of the Ric Grayson arc (amnesia plots are overdone Bruce already had one during it again so quickly is lazy) have to where Kory has to go back home because her parents are sick and Dick goes along to support her not knowing when or if they'll be back. And while they're there have him discovers a possible plot to murder the royal family so he has to use his detective skills. Since Tamerians are so much stronger than him than him rely on his brain to get him out of dangerous situations. This can give Kory a chance to shine too showing her capability as a leader and have her dealing with the final threat alongside her husband.
This, and I think they're cute together.

Before I say anything I just want to clarify I do not read the comics, I more a fan of DC animated works but I have noticed things. I'll probably very a series of posts on my various (probably dumb) opinions I'd like to take a moment (or more) looking at Jason Todd.
Oh, and a warning I guess. Ya know, Jason's backstory and all.
He's a pretty weird character and I don't mean that in a bad way. It's moreso his characterization and he history with recons (a topic I'll likely rant about in another post). For those who don't know Jason has two origins. One that basically makes him Dick Grayson 2.0 but a redhead with the Flying Todds and the one where he steals the bat-tires where they make him look more like Dick. Hrm.... While I haven't read anything from his run as Robin I can understand why readers at the time didn't like him. The first Robin was a hard act to follow.
That brings me to his time as Red Hood. He's really strange has Hood when it comes to writing. Jason goes from comically evil to morally grey anti-hero depending on the writer. I know pit madness is the excuse but that was a recon made outside of canon. (And at this point I don't know if it the writers or fan making it up.) Now the writers have him mostly chill with the Batfam. (Unless it's Gotham Wars and Bruce, I have so much to say about Bruce, the Batfam as well.)
Another thing I find funny about Jason Todd is his antis. I saw some talking about how he was conservative and pro gun propaganda which is... Something. My own personal beliefs aside Red Hood is absolutely not that. When he's using guns and killing criminals the story paints him as the bad guy. Although his stans aren't much better because they tend to downplay all the bad stuff he's done. Man has a kill count over 100 and has shot children (Damian). Not saying redemption isn't possible but still.
I hope this hasn't giving anyone the idea that I dislike Jason. I actually do like him. I think he works better as an anti-hero than outright villain but that's my opinion, it's not worth much.
I don't know tag this....

Okay, so I have a bad idea
So I think everyone who reads Batfam fanfiction has heard of the reverse Robin au and my idea stems from this. Of course I can't fully that credit for the idea since someone else came up with it first. What they had done it put Damian as the oldest then have the other Robins in the same order. Guys, the potential of this!
Damian becomes Batman's partner at an early age, physically 9, after being grown in a tube and trained. In honor of the League of Shadows he goes by Shadow. About a year later the Flying Graysons are murdered and Dick becomes Robin much to Damian's dismay. Of course he's the superior partner, right? But yet somehow the circus kid out performs him every turn, it's vexing.
Fast forward 6 to 8 years and the brothers have founded the Teen Titans. At first everything goes well until the team votes Dick as leader, not Damian causing he jealousy to deepen. It continues to grow and Dick is kidnapped and blackmailed into becoming Renegade. Convinced he's evil Damian kills him with Dick's last words being along the line of "Nano-bots.... Bloods-stream...." Then the truth comes out. Everyone is hurt and confused while Bruce disowns Damian who is drowning in regret.
A few months later and Jason becomes the new Robin. Despite not being on speaking terms with Bruce Damian still tried to be there for Jason, it just doesn't work. Couple of years after that and a new face appears in Gotham, Nightwing. (It's just Dick in the discowing outfit with a leather jacket.)

Today I've come to mess with the minds of the Bat Fandom. Today's topic of choice Tim's backstory.
So we all know Tim was at the last performance of The Flying Grayson's, right? But let's ask ourselves "how?" Going with original gold and silver age comics Dick was 7-8 when he's parents died. Since Tim remembers it we can logically assume he was at least 3 at the time. Why 3 you ask? That's why humans begin to be able to form long term memories they can call back to for the rest of they're lives.
So why is this a problem? Well when Dick retire/ was fired for Robin (depends on the timeline) he was 18. Jason became Robin at around 12-13 if I understand correctly. So 5-6 years apart. When Jason attacked Titan's Tower he was around 18-19 (I think) and Tim was 14-15 so we have a 4-5 year difference here. Meaning Dick and Tim would be about 9-11 years apart. So how can they be both 4-5 years apart and 9-11 years apart? Well, they can't. Unless if true that Jason and Tim where originally the same age when Jason died but if that where the case if got reconned.
Another thing that bothers me about the age differences is the fact we got a flashback in an outlaws issue of a young Jason watching a young Dick perform and he looked to be about five or six. But if Dick and Jason are 5 years apart wouldn't Jason have to be three? Unless they aged up Dick but that makes it's own issues, like messing up the parallels between Bruce and Dick. The only way to "fix it" would be either recon Tim's origin or change everyone's ages.

Hidden Crescent, Chapter One
"So remind me why we're going to old Corona again." Cassandra rested her head in her as she leaned on the edge of the cart.
"To check on Varian." It had been something she dreaded for the longest time. The whole fiasco with the tree had driven her over her art-block among other things. "I haven't heard any word for him since The Storm."
Because he could be dead, not that the warrior would say it out loud. "May he's out like your boyfriend. You'd think he'd have enough sleep with how many naps he takes."
"Oh, it's not that bad." That earned her a look from the other female. "Sure it may be a little… extensive at times, but I don't think it's a problem."
"Raps, he sleeps on top of the bookshelves in the castle, I think Romeo may have a problem. Speaking of which." She glanced next to her friend. "Wake up Fitzherbert!"
Shooting up the man sputtered around. "Huh? What? Who's attacking us?"
"No one is Eugene, it's just Cass." Rapunzel smiled at him. "Have a good sleep?"
"Until the end there, yeah." He halfheartedly glared at the dark haired woman. "Then the dragon lady just had to wake me up."
"Oh, boo hoo. You would've had to be woken up soon anyways," gesturing past them with a finger Cassandra pointed out, "we're also there."
"Well it wouldn't kill you to be nicer about it." The rogue turned his body to get a better look. "What's with the crowd?"
"Crowd?" Chirped the girl as she also looked in that direction. Indeed the better part of the village looked like they packed up and were ready to leave with a few in what was a seemingly heated argument. As the wagon stopped the princess took that as her queue to confront them herself. "What's going on here?"
"We were gonna move to that new plot of land the king promised us but this guy says that the monster will just follow us." He looked annoyed at his neighbor. "What else can we do, Frank? With the rocks and the monster catching us at both sides it's not like we have much of a choice!"
"But our families have been here for generations? Don't you care?" The other man waved his hands in the air as he ranted. "The beast will just follow our sheep and the rock might show up there too! What would be the point?"
"Woah, woah! Hold on," looking between the two she asked. "What monster?"
"A big, nasty monster has been getting at our livestock, Princess." An older woman came forward. "Nothing's safe, chickens, goats, nothing. In the morning we find the mangle bodies just lyin' there."
"Okay, alright, um…." Glancing around at what she could see, the black rocks were worse than ever. "Continue with relocation, I pr-" no, not propose, not again, "guarantee we'll do our best to find out whatever this creature is and remove it as quickly as possible. First thing I need to know is where it was last seen."
"It was in the field where I keep my flock, your majesty." A shepherd came forward with a little lamb nestled at his and staff in his other hand. "It like to have gotten this one, lucky she got away with only a hurt leg. I can lead you there."
"Please do."
In not long at all the group arrived at their destination. Bowing out the farmer went to attend his animals while the others investigated. Pascal clicked as he jumped out the blond as they all looked in separate locations. The little reptile wasn't paying attention when he glanced up a tree and tripped in a shallow hole. Hearing the indignant squeak, the former thief checked on the unlucky chameleon.
"Hey Frog, what-cha fall into- oh." Eugene picked up Pascal as he carefully examined the indent in the earth. With lips pressed he put his free hand in the center of a large handprint that dwarfed his own. It was definitely human sharp with its five long fingers but also had the clear animalistic detail of claws thrown in.
Pascal sweaked with alarm this time causing Cass to go over and look over the young man's shoulder. "Uh, Raps. You might want to take a look at this."
"What is- wow! That's big." And no doubt belonged to something bigger. "What do you think made that?"
"I can give you three guesses." Declared a new, rough voice. "But none of them will be pretty."
"Uh, who are you?" True to her nature Cass didn't trust this new individual. "And what are you doing here?"
"Name's Captain Creighton, world class big-game tracker and beast hunter." She came over and shared a passing glance at Eugene, who stepped out her way. Eyeing the tracks the captain hummed. "Hm, I'd say what you have here is a werewolf."
"A werewolf?" Rapunzel laughed at the upsirdness of the claim. "There's no such thing as werewolves."
Pascal clicked in agreement.
"No such thing as werewolves? Bah." Scoffing at her "naivety" she went to question the girl. "Know who the ruler of this kingdom is? Need a word with him."
"That would be her dad." Snapped Cassandra not liking the person one bit. "I'd be nicer if I were you."
"We can take you to him. I'm sure he'd like to know about, uh, the wolf situation."
"Good." The hunter nodded. "The sooner we get there, the best."

Anyone else feel like Sam is slowing turning out to be worse than Dream? Sam kidnapped a child and his killed (mostly) innocent, manipulated teenaged father. He argued a long time ago he was protecting Tubbo but.... This is exactly what Dream would have done, isn't it? And notice how many people don't question Sam for killing Ranboo, a guy who has only been nice to all of them. At this point it feels like most of the server deserve what Dream is going to do to them. All of them have lost an important thing, their humanity. Ironic how the person everyone treats like a monster, Technoblade, cares more about his respective friends than the so-called heroes. Sam is a dead man walking and I wonder if he knows that, I also wonder if he knows he took Ranboo's only life. I think once Tubbo learns Quackity also has something to do with this.... Well L'Manhole wouldn't be the only crater in the ground.

It feels like every step Quackity is taking to protect his nation is only ensuring its demise. Dream, Technoblade, now Purpled, the list grows ever longer. None of them either knew of his country's existence or had a reason to go after him. Now Dream has a path to freedom, now Technoblade has knowledge, now Purpled has revenge. All of them are stronger than most, if not all, than Quackity's lackeys. Dream is a villain, there is no questioning that, but Quackity and Sam were still abusing their power. That makes them villains too. Quackity loved Charlie but his greed, his lust for power and how he ceased it in the end caused the poor slime's death. Soon his nation will follow and Quackity will only have himself to blame.
