So last month I was doing some statistics to find the "top Bagginshield fics" and I thought I would post my findings. First, I'm going to explain my process. I looked at the top 25 fics for hits, kudos, and bookmarks in the Bagginshield tag. Some of these overlapped which gave me 40 fics to work with. I then used these stats to rank the fics in 3 different ways: Rank by Stat, Rank by %, and Rank by Monthly Stat.
Rank by Stat- I assigned each stat a numerically value. So for example, the highest hit would get a score of 40, the second highest hit would get a score of 39, so on and so forth, the lowest getting a score of 1. For each fic they got a numerical value for hits, kudos, and bookmarks. I then added these numerical values together and ranked each fic from highest to lowest score. This tended to favor long running multi-chapter fics.
Rank by %- I divided the kudos by number of hits, and the bookmarks by number of hits. I turned these values into a percent. I then combined the two percents together. I ranked the fics from highest percent to lowest percent. This tended to favor short running one-shots.
Rank by Monthly Stat- Finally, I divided each stat (hits, kudos, and bookmarks) by the number of months that fic has been "live". So from the month the first chapter was posted until December of 2025. I then repeated the process I did for for Rank by Stat with the numerical values and ranked these fics from highest to lowest as well. This tended to favor the "younger" fics, but the 40 fics I worked with were mostly made around the same time so this really became a buffer score of sorts.
I then averaged these three ranks and that's what made the list below. It's definitely not a perfect method. For one thing, my sample bias was to only choose the top 25 of each category to begin with which didn't allow for a lot of newer fics to have the opportunity to be ranked. But this is the list I created! I would love to hear in the comments which of your favorites made the list and which didn't. I certainly had a large number of fics in my personal top 25 that didn't make the cut.

saw a tweet on them playing dnd and had to doodle something for it...
I think after this experience either Kirk or Scotty would take over dming lol.
Last doodle is from weeks ago but I figured I could drop it here as well, though I didn't know how to draw the characters too well yet

My small review on Star Trek book:
Doctor’s Orders by Diana Duane. With spoilers!
I really enjoy sci-fi as a whole genre, and the worldbuilding aspect is what has drawn me into Star Trek in the first place (second place was a video of Kirk and Spock). When it comes to fiction based on the franchise & fanfiction for me the most important aspect are canonical characters and their relationship.
I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about Diana Duane, so I was exited to get my hands on her books. Since McCoy is my favourite character, I decided to start with the book where he’s in a primal focus.
Also, the premise seemed great, as I was very curious how McCoy would behave as a commander of the ship, and I was particularly interested how he would handle Spock, as there were a few instances in the show where Spock and McCoy have been left without Kirk. The book cover showed Spock standing firmly next to our favourite doctor in the captain’s chair. Also, I thought that the idea itself is intriguing enough — what will be the difference in the decision making between a trained soldier and a doctor? The book even starts with a Hippocratic Oath.
This book does feel like an episode. It’s relatively short, the whole action takes place in a span of a few days, it has an idealistic nature, and a perfectly good ending. All characters are in fact in character, which is why Diane is often praised.
The dialogue and humor are good, you can even hear original voices and intonations, there’s a lot of strategic decisions during battle and I love watching/reading the whole crew working together as the whole.
The fact that McCoy is new to commanding, helps the reader to understand what’s going on better and his decisions, and it is easier to imagine how you’d feel in his shoes. The whole McCoy commanding aspect in my opinion was very in character.
The book however has a lot of focus on the planetary species and human characters getting to know them better, studying them and discussing them from a scientific perspective (so, the book puts science into science fiction). It was a curious read, but I think it is not exactly for those who came for action adventure. A bunch of scientists discussing species and linguistics is the bigger part of the book.
I quickly understood what’s going with them personally, but there were some aspects which I didn’t quite understand or were not explained enough (so, why Ornae were building stuff? Maybe I’m forgetting something, but I don’t remember if they gave a clear answer). I also didn’t get why ;At would say yes in the end. It felt for me rather logical that they would say no. I didn’t feel that either Federation either the species would benefit in anything else then knowledge. Well, they could protect the planet, but… I thought ;At are a bit too powerful to really need this.
There are also Klingons. I thought it was a very nice touch that doctor managed to find a common ground, using psychology. It was funny, but also believable.
Klingons however do not feel as a threat, well, not dangerous enough. Klingon’s motivation to be on the planet however for me personally seemed not really satisfactory for a reader. It made them even less threatening (while they of course shouldn’t be exactly threatening, but I wished for more… spice). I really did like the unexpected friendliness simply because McCoy is a professional medic and knows psychology. I enjoyed the bits when he uses his profession to command and even as a moral compass.
My biggest issue was there was not enough tension. And it is primarily because of Spock.
It might be my own vision, but what I can judge from the show is that Spock and McCoy have a complicated relationship during in the series. Their philosophies opposite each other, but both characters are not so different as either McCoy or Spock would think (they both are very emphatic for example) and it creates this unique dynamic.
Most of the time when McCoy and Spock are left alone with each other, they start an argument and can say actually hurtful things to each other, also, it’s quite obvious to me that Spock likes McCoy, while McCoy’s reaction to him is not exactly unambiguous. There should be tension. It what makes it interesting.
In the book, McCoy and Spock are as friendly as could be. Of course there are a few funny moments, but for me there should be a lot more bickering, a lot more emotions involved around Kirk’s disappearance, and there could be just done more (for example, there could be a danger which would force them to leave the orbit, but McCoy wants to stay to find Jim, and Spock is there to try to make him understand the logics and the fact that he feels that Jim is alright… ).
Kirk is there to balance Spock and McCoy out. The idea of McCoy being forced to rely on Spock with whom he disagrees mostly, or Spock relying on emotional McCoy is such an interesting concept, so it’s a pity for me I didn’t get this explored in the book.
And, also Kirk isn’t in a real danger, which also makes it lack tension. But it’s probably my own issue, I like “damsel in distress” trope when it comes to strong characters like the Enterprise crew and the trio in particular.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read. Despite the lack of tension, there is good dialogue, realistic approach to the idea of a medical doctor being in command, the battle is great, worldbuilding is creative, and very TOS-y.

Star Trek TOS Characters Playing D&D:
Kirk: Nominates himself as leader of the party. Plays a simple human fighter, but his backstory is so in depth and gripping that he makes it work. Secretly enjoys Chekov and Sulu's shenanigans.
Spock: DMs their first campaign, but Spock goes hardcore by the rules and everyone dies like three times. He gets politely excused from his position and proceeds to play the most badass wizard character DnD has ever seen. Gets surprisingly into it.
Bones: Also gets surprisingly into it. Plays a perpetually tired and angry cleric which is basically him just zapped into a fantasy universe.
Uhura: Either the calmest person at the table or the worst instigator at any given moment. Plays a badass druid and has to save the party so many times. Loves watching the shenanigans.
Sulu: Plays a bard. Is NOT innocent of shenanigans
Chekov: Plays a rogue. Gets the party TPK'd at least once. Causes over 80% of all shenanigans
Scotty: Enjoys homebrewing new classes and/or races for his character. Always plays some flavor of artificer. Takes over DMing after Spock is removed from the position. His worldbuilding is INSANE.

late shift
Shuttle for Mars is departing now. Please keep hands, feet, tails, and other appendages clear of the yellow line.
‘Nice, finally get off work on time for once! Man is it empty, way less busy than the 5:45 one…
Are they sleeping? Please tell me they’re sleeping…’
“Snnrk…”
‘Oh good they are, oooh lots of empty seats next to them! Nice.’
The young human sits across the large figure and looks around.
‘Wonder why everyone else is sitting so far away from this guy? He’s not that much scarier than a Alteauh…OH! He’s an Orc! An actual Orc, oh this is so cool! Wait. Calm down, control yourself. Orc’s are people too, not some exotic animal in a zoo….he’s sooo cool looking tho!’
The human smiles and takes out their headphones and listens to some music and take in the view they see through the shuttle’s windows. From time to time they peek at the orc, can’t helping themselves from people-watching him.
Like what most humans imagined, he was huge. Easily more than 7 feet tall, with large calloused hands bigger than their head. He had large tusks but unlike the stereotypes he was well trimmed with well relatively kept hair. It would have neater had there not been dust in it. The orc wore dirty cloths and work boots. Beside them what looked like a tool box and bag.
‘Must be a construction worker or works in a trade’ they mused
‘Poor guy, he’s gotta be exhausted to sleep here. At least he gets to go home now.’
The shuttle shakes and with it so does the sleeping giant. Rocking side to side.
'That's not good.' They nervously slide off their headphones.
The turbulence increases until the sleeping orc leans too far and starts fall face first off his seat.
“OH SHIT!” Diving to their knees they manage to catch his head and shoulders.
“Mm?”
“You okay?” Damn he's heavy!
“Mmm…sorry.” Rubbing the sleep from his eyes he slowly got back into his seat, the turbulence now gone.
“No worries, I just didn’t want you to hit your head.”
“Heh, wouldn't be the first time I’ve done it.”
after rubbing his eyes a bit more and a crack of the neck he looks at them, brain finally working to some degree.
“…wait. You caught me?”
“Uh-huh”
“But you’re so small! Are you hurt?”
“You're not the first sleeping giant I’ve caught. I’m alright.”
“I am so sorry for that. I just finished working a 12 hour shift fixing the 1st and 3rd engine rooms and couldn’t help myself from dozing off.”
They whistle. “12 hours? No wonder you’re tired! If I were you I’d be in a coma.”
“Ah but surely you have a difficult job yourself. How else would you be able to catch me?”
“No, nothing like yours! I just work at a youngling centre.”
“The one on the ship?”
“That’s the one.”
“...YOUR ONE OF THE BRAVE WARRIORS WHO RISKED THEIR LIVES TO PROTECT THE CHILDREN??!”
“…you’ve heard of us?”
“Every orc and warrior worth their blade knows of your valiant deeds!! Tell me, what is your name??”
“Kim, uh and you are?”
“Fenrir. It is truly an honor to meet someone of your bravery and intelligence."
"Likewise! I've heard that the orc species are a true warrior race."
For the rest of the trip the two talked. Kim sharing how her and Max built such a safe room in the centre, which lead to the two realizing how similar each other's planets are.
"You have wind whirlpools as well? I thought they only existed on Bantor!"
"Well we call them hurricanes and tornadoes but yeah. Do you guys have hail?"
"Not where I grew up but nearby farther up they get a week or two of light hail showers during the fall. What about animals? Do you have reptiles bigger than an adult with large teeth and live in rivers? We call them darthrang."
"Oh we call them crocodiles!"
"Amazing! To think that your species live in a world much like mine!"
When the shuttle finally reached it's destination the two went their separate ways. A few days later they meet again, this time on the later shuttle. They sit and talk and create a routine of sorts where they became each others travelling companion for the trip to Mars.
One day however, Fenrir stopped coming. The human was saddened as she enjoyed his company but was soon surprised when seeing him at the centre.
"Kim! I've been transferred to stay on the ship so I won't be taking the shuttle to Mars anymore."
"Oh...well, as you know I only go home at the end of the week so maybe we can hang out now. Like eat lunch together or have a drink after work...or something like that!"
"Actually we'll be seeing each other everyday now. But if you don't get sick of me then yes, lets each lunch together."
"Great! But why will I be seeing you everyday?"
"Because after telling my family about you and the centre they've enrolled my nieces and nephews and younger siblings here...and I offered to drop them off and pick them up."
It was then that Kim noticed the dozen of orc children hiding behind Fenrir. The tallest and what looked the eldest of them stepped forward.
"Hello, I am Athea, uncle Fenrir said your one of the ones who saved the centre."
"Yes, my name is Kim. It's great to meet you AtheaaAA!" The orc girl pulled the human into a tight hug, lifting the adult woman off of her feet.
"Thank you for saving Nova." she mumbled into her chest.
'Ah, the Captain's daughter' Kim thought. "I was just doing what any teacher would do."
After a moment the human was put down and lead the children into the centre. The day went well. Fenrir's young family members were quickly won over by the humans, first with the saving of the centre, then with how they understood how wonderful their planet was rather than terrifying or deadly.
They were also greatly intrigued by how such a small species could survive in a planet that was thought to only be habitable to orcs.
"How can you carry us?" asked Thor, one of Fenrir's youngest brothers. "We're much bigger than a human child."
"Yeah but your not bigger than my cousins who are teenagers. Also just last month I had like 10 kids climbing on me. Two were tighalaxes."
"Your joking!"
...
"It that tumpon?!"
"Hm? We call it maafe, but it's also known as peanut stew, do you want some? It doesn't have any meat in it though."
"Guys Max has tumpon!! Can you tell Fenrir where we can buy the ingredients?"
"Of course. Finally I'll finish what gran gave me without having to gain 10 pounds."
And thus the first day ended on a high note! Now if only Kim could figure out why the children looked at her and nodded while talking to Fenrir...
So this based off of a post by @llamagoddessofficial about humans meeting actual space orcs. Sadly I can't find the actual post. but yeah, here u go, space orc and human meet cute

ok for some reason I love winter hobbits
not like hobbits standing in snow, but I feel like they would totally be the type to have “snow hair,” where their hair turns white to help with camouflage (not that they really need it lol).
like imagine frodo and sam walking on the pass of caradahas (bc it activates when in snow,) with snowy white hair, and merry and pippin making a total game out of it! they would be hiding in the snow all the time.
or bilbo with the company, thorin would be sooo flustered lol. I just think that this would be the cutest thing!!

So i know we all like to hc that legolas knew at least aragorn before the quest, or the elves of imlardis.
But honestly, au in which legolas is genuinely just some random elf that showed up to deliver a message, was roped into the council and saw the most amazing oppurtunity to fuck with everyone and took the elf spot in the party?
Like, no-one knows who tf he is, he’s just a messenger (no one knows he’s thranduil’s son) and elrond gave him a seat at the council out of indulgence. And then this one motherfucker no one knows ends up joining one of, if not the most, important quest in ME.
Legolas, knowing damn well no one’s got a clue who tf he is: hold on, i sense an opportunity to do the funniest shit ever.
And after he volunteered himself, it’s not like elrond can just go: no, wait a minute.
Legolas has got the audacity. He’s sensing all the imlardis elves’ daggers in their eyes and is full on cackling in his head.
They are having a horrible time and legolas is thriving!
The walkers themselves don’t know untill after the quest.

headcannon that as soon as Gimli finds out legolas is a PRINCE, he never lets it go.
Whenever legolas asks him to do anything he’s like “yes of course my PRINCE anything for the HEIR TO THE THRONE””
He’s constantly bowing and kneeling and hamming it up as much as he can bc he thinks it’s so goddamn funny. he gets the rest of the fellowship in on it,,,it’s a whole thing
Legolas hates it, of course and is like stfu u stupid short bitch >:(
But after they get together….it changes….and the ‘my prince’ thing becomes more of an endearment. When they kiss goodbye or something he’ll say “I love you, my prince.” And Lego’s heart will do little cartwheels in his chest for hours and hours
