if you’re white and wanna write a poc character and feel awkward about it i implore you to ignore any twitblr stuff treating it as a massive ethical burden and instead come in more with the same mindset you’d have if you wanted to write about idk firefighters but didn’t know anything about firefighters so you do... research. Like fuck off with the weird kinda creepy calls for spiritual introspection you’re not writing about god damn space aliens you’re writing about humans and if you think you need more perspective of different life experiences just read?

Day 4. "Is this a thing?"
Yes. Phantom of the Opera Mergana is a thing because I said so.
In an AU where Merlin secretly teaches Morgana to control her magic behind a mirror. He hides behind a golden mask to conceal his identity from her.

Basic rules for analysing fiction, an incomprehensive list jotted down in a hurry:
The protagonist isn’t always right
The protagonist isn’t always good
The protagonist isn’t always written to be relatable or likeable
The narrator isn’t always right
The narrator isn’t always good
The narrator isn’t always telling the truth
The narrator isn’t always the author
The protagonist’s moral compass, the narrator’s moral compass and the author’s moral compass are three entirely different things that only occasionally overlap
Pay attention to what characters do and not just what they say
Pay special attention when what the characters do is at odds with what they say
A lot of the time the curtains are blue for a reason. If they aren’t, you should read better books

really we deserved gwaine knowing about merlin's magic because him and lancelot lowkey having squabbles about who gets to go with merlin on illegal magic fieldtrips would be so funny
merlin mentions needing to kill some magical creature, so lancelot shows up at their usual meeting point just to find gwaine waiting there, too
excuse you?? lancelot has been doing well-intended treason for a year now? this is kind of his thing??? HE is the treason buddy??

if you don’t name at least one side character something ridiculous like "basil thunderpants" or "margaret doodlehopper," are you even having fun as a writer?

You can get a physical copy HERE and support me on PATREON or give me a KO-FI if you are able to!

“My berries cluster black and thick
For rich and poor alike to pick.
I’ll tear your dress, and cling, and tease
And scratch your hands and arms and knees.
I’ll stain your fingers and your face,
And then I’ll laugh at your disgrace.
But when the bramble-jelly’s made,
You’ll find your trouble well repaid.”
~The Blackberry Fairy, Cicely Mary Barker
Thought I’d posted the finished one, but apparently not.

The world needed something to believe in;
Something bright and solid,
Something equal, something round.
Dragon's fire illuminated the darkness,
Forged a coin to the destiny's sound.
One side bore magic, the other bore a crown.
Both sides got branded by a dragon,
And marked Albion's dawn.
Thus the legend of the once and future king and the most powerful sorcerer to walk the Earth was born.

Would you read a fem!Merlin fanfiction? I just think it would be funny because of how many silly situations she'd get in as a girl who a lot of people mistake for a boy, all the while she's serving the clotpole of a prince.
While I would follow some of the plot, I plan on making it make sense. Hunith willingly sending Merlin to a place where magic is punishable by death? No. Merlin trying to help Morgana out? Yes. Arthur and Morgana having petty fights over who should Merlin work for? Yes. Morgana forcing Arthur to have a girl's nights with her, Merlin and Gwen (because he has no other friends by that point) and them annoying the shit out of him? Yes. Resetting Arthur's character development over and over again? No. And so on.
I plan on really working on the character's psyche and relationships with other characters because that part really fascinated me the most about BBC's Merlin.
Anyway, I plan on writing it in a way that even if people haven't watched the show or aren't familiar with Arthurian legends can still read and enjoy it.
P.S. Cover is made by me with the help of my beloved friend @lovenonymously
