So you guys may remember I posted about starting an online magazine...

I was waiting until we officially got the name trademarked to talk about it, but my board of directors is VERY SLOW so I’m just going to announce it now and let you know the name may or may not change.  So announcing: SPOONIE TALK MAGAZINE!  Spoonie Talk is an online magazine with the aim of providing information and psychosocial support for the chronic illness community. I (Jenna) am the Executive Director and Editor, and there is also a small board of directors.

We are hoping to have our first issue out in February of 2016, so we need content! If you’re interested in writing articles, drawing, taking photos, really anything that can be construed as educational and/or supportive for the community, we strongly, strongly, encourage you to submit! All submissions will be reviewed by me, the editor, and the board of directors before being accepted for publication. Submissions should be emailed to SpoonieTalk@gmail.com.

Currently we are looking for things like: articles on illness info or on personal experience, either in dealing with an illness, with ableism, or experiences having a loved one with an illness, articles to bring awareness to certain illnesses, or daily experience with them, history of disability activism, current events in disability/illness/etc, pain/fatigue management, recipes, coping techniques, life hacks, photos, drawings, comics, and we would LOVE interviews with physicians or other professionals in the chronic illness field that deal with issues such as general or specific illness management, ableism, coping with illness, navigating the medical system, etc. This is just a short list of ideas- if you have your own, please submit that!

We also are interested in including ads, so if you have something spoonie related, an etsy shop, a spoonie app, a blog or site, ask about add space in our magazine!

We’re seeking non-profit status, and would like to be able to pay for content submissions in the future, but currently are unable to. For this reason submissions can be things you have already written/drawn/photographed/etc, as long as there are no copyright issues with publication elsewhere.

Online subscriptions to the bimonthly (every two months) magazine will be free to all, and hopefully in the future we will have print subscriptions available as well for doctors offices and for individual subscriptions!

I feel horribly guilty for having good days. And for choosing to go out and do something fun instead of catching up on the mountains of housework I have from being sick all the time. I feel like I should stay inside all the time and never do anything. Its not fair.

RIP Adel Termos… A Hero from Lebanon

Rather than running for his life, Adel sacrificed it to save 100s. This is Adel Termos, a young father of two. 

Adel spotted the second ISIS suicide attacker heading towards the Mosque in Burj Al Barajneh, Beirut’s Southern Suburb, Lebanon, to blow himself up, and take100s of lives gathered to pray. Adel ran and tackled the bomber who quickly dispatched his bombs taking both of his life and Adel’s with him. 

Adel sacrificed his life for the sake of 100s others. 

Adel… May your Precious and Heroic soul Rest in Peace.

Surrounded by so many skinny minded people. Everything has to be skinny, in shape, small. Then I look at myself in the mirror and see the opposite. Tell myself all the time to love my reflection but I know I am capable of changing the way it looks. I feel like I am being judged by everyone even my love ones. “You used to be so skinny” “That’s not heathy for you” “Exercise more” etc.. It’s just so hard to be in this skinny minded world. Thick girls aren’t even capture as beautiful, we are captured as FAT. It just hurts.

I've suffered from fibromyalgia symptoms since the age of four, pain being the first to develop. I haven't had a single day where I get to wake up pain free since my pain started. I'm only 21 and I have the physical abilities of a 90 year old. I don't remember what it's like to feel normal. All of my memories have pain in the foreground.
