Did you know that the Garifuna language spoken across the eastern cost of Central America, is an Arawak language related to the Taino language, the language of the native people of the Caribbean that first encountered the European colonizers. Efforts are being made to revitilize the Taino language through comparative studies of endangered languages of the Caribbean, including #Arawaklanguages like Garifuna, and Lokono spoken in South America. Here is a little Garifuna lesson inspired by some song lyrics in Arabic from the Lebanese band @mashrouleila. 每自作是念 mai ji sa ze nen Always I think to myself. 以何命衆生 i ga ryô shujô How can I guide living beings 得入無上道 toku nyû mu-jô dô Help them enter into the unserpassed way 速成就佛身 soku jôju busshin And quickly attain the body of enlightenment -Lotus Sutra, 16th Chapter This is my constant thought in existence, a daily affirmation of not only how I want to live, but also who I am trying to exist as in this world. Suffering is abundant in this world, and I have to work daily to heal within so that I can help others heal themselves. What is called enlightenment, is not an easy thing to understand and express. It is in essence a daily practice, a daily struggle to remain conscious and engaged in empathetic action with the worlds within and outside of the self that are seemingly separate but always in constant unity throughout. I am struggling today as I do many days to work on my personal suffering, so that it won't separate me from others. For the past years I've been helping take care of my now 90 yr old grandmother. Although she does have chronic physical pain, it is often the pain in her heart and mind, the suffering she has been scarred by, the suffering that makes one powerless and hopeless and trapped in oneself, that I try to help her with the most. It is a difficult path to persue, that of transforming the pain within the heart and the mind. But I hope and pray with all my heart that even when I doubt in myself I can't keep fighting for my happiness and that of everyone around and far away from me. I pray as well for all of you struggling through your personal journeys. May we all overcome our obstacles and accomplish our dreams and goals in this life. A special shout out to all the #caregivers out there taking care of others, don't forget to take care of yourselves as well. #Nam_Myoho_Renge_Kyo #nammyohorengekyo #南無妙法蓮華經 #gongyo #lotussutra #amen #prayer #kowabmakndenwenmagenek #watchovermyrelations #buddhism #endangeredlanguageartproject #selfcare #family https://www.instagram.com/p/Bno2p1cgjnG/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=13kln96y8hm5p

Feeling super burnt out, stressed and anxious right now, grandma is in the hospital again. I was going to do a post about #caregiving and #selfcare , but instead I decided I’d self-care and let #1996 me inspire me to just #draw and enjoy. Here is a #comicbookcover with some reimagining of an #xmen team and some words inspired by their #superheronames. Note Black Hawk isn’t an x-men, but I wanted to incorporate the #Sauk #warrior as homage to an important #NativeAmericanHero that has been on my mind since I started this project just a bit over a year ago now. Mat Hekid O Ju: (Papago: When it Rains) A collection of poems in the Pima and Papago languages written in the summer of 1980 by students and teachers at the Native American Language Institute in Albuquerque, NM. The title Mat Hekid O Ju, was given in recognition of a poem written in Papago by Elizabeth Salcido , a first grader in 1974. This particular poem created much enthusiasm and inspiration among the adult students writing poems in this collection. Never disregard the power of a child's words and actions. Below are some rain words and phrases in O’odham (Papago Pima): add a comment in your language and tag #mat_hekid_o_ju #when_it_rains #rain #ju:kï #endangeredlanguageartproject #papagolanguage #oodham ju:kï - rain ju:k= to rain jukiabig N [pl: jujkiabig]: rainy season ex: 'E-'et(<'at)-'ai g jukiabig.
