I just want to share that I've started creating my first original fictional story (since March 25, 2025) and I'm very excited about it! I have no idea how long it'll take me to finish it and I don't even know if the story will be as interesting and well constructed as I'm imagining, but since I don't know how to animate and I'm not yet very satisfied with my drawings and art style and therefore can't make a cartoon or a comic, I'm going to use my skill and ease in writing to publish a book :)

It'll take at least 2 years because I want to make the catalog card for my own book, and I'll only be able to do this after I graduate and become a librarian (here in Brazil, catalog cards, that are printed in the book itself to guide librarians when cataloging the book, are mandatory in all publications, and being a librarian there's no reason to pay another librarian to do what will literally be my job lol)

How to Write a Character

↠ Start with the basics, because obviously. Name. Age. Gender. Maybe even a birthday if you’re feeling fancy. This is step one because, well, your character needs to exist before they can be interesting. But nobody cares if they’re 27 or 37 unless it actually matters to the story.

↠ Looks aren’t everything… but also, describe them. Yes, we know their soul is more important than their hair color, but readers still need something to visualize. Do they have the kind of face that makes babies cry? Do they always look like they just rolled out of bed? Give us details, not just “tall with brown hair.

↠ Personality isn’t just “kind but tough.” For the love of storytelling, give them more than two adjectives. Are they kind, or do they just pretend to be because they hate confrontation? Are they actually tough, or are they just too emotionally repressed to cry in public? Dig deeper.

↠ Backstory = Trauma (usually). Something shaped them. Maybe it was a messy divorce, maybe they were the middle child and never got enough attention, or maybe they once got humiliated in a spelling bee and never recovered. Whatever it is, make it matter to who they are today.

↠ Give them a goal. Preferably a messy one. If your character’s only motivation is to “be happy” or “do their best,” they’re boring. They need a real goal, one that conflicts with who they are, what they believe in, or what they think they deserve. Bonus points if it wrecks them emotionally.

↠ Make them suffer. Yes, I said it. A smooth, easy journey is not a story. Give them obstacles. Rip things away from them. Make them work for what they want. Nobody wants to read about a character who just gets everything handed to them (unless it’s satire, then carry on).

↠ Relationships = Depth. Nobody exists in a vacuum. Who do they love? Who annoys the hell out of them? Who do they have that messy, can’t-live-with-you-can’t-live-without-you tension with? People shape us. So, shape your character through the people in their life.

↠ Give them a voice that actually sounds like them. If all your characters talk the same, you’ve got a problem. Some people ramble, some overthink, some are blunt to the point of being offensive. Let their voice show who they are. You should be able to tell who’s talking without dialogue tags.

↠ If they don’t grow, what’s the point? People change. They learn things, make mistakes, get their hearts broken, and (hopefully) become a little wiser. If your character starts and ends the story as the same exact person, you just wasted everyone’s time.

↠ Flaws. Give. Them. Flaws. Nobody likes a perfect character. Give them something to struggle with, maybe they’re selfish, maybe they push people away, maybe they’re addicted to the thrill of self-destruction (fun!). Make them real. Make them human.

↠ Relatability is key. Your character doesn’t have to be likable, but they do have to be understandable. Readers need to get them, even if they don’t agree with them. If your character never struggles, never doubts, and never screws up, I have bad news: they’re not a character, they’re a mannequin.

↠ You’re never actually done. Characters evolve, not just in the story, but as you write them. If something feels off, fix it. If they feel flat, dig deeper. Keep refining, rewriting, and letting them surprise you. That’s how you create someone who feels real.

Now go forth and write characters that actually make people feel something. And if you need a reminder, just ask yourself: Would I care if this person existed in real life? If the answer is meh, start over.

Punctuating Dialogue

However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!

If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)

“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.

➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.

W2H / Sockathan edit (O Sol e a Lua - Pequeno Cidadão)

Okay it's been a few days since these two little gay bastards have been my new obsession and of course I couldn't help but associate this song with them because Sock is OBVIOUSLY the Sun and Jonathan is the Moon (any Brazilian fan out there?).

In case you don't know, nouns in Portuguese have gender (masculine nouns are preceded by the article "o" and feminine nouns by the article "a"), and Sun (Sol) is masculine and Moon (Lua) is feminine, so that's why in the song the Sun is a boy and the Moon is a girl, and therefore referred to as "he" and "she".

I think I made it clear in the edit, but my headcanons about their sexual / romantic orientation are that Sock is pan and Jonathan is bi and on the aromantic and asexual spectrum.

I also consider Sock as non-binary, and Jonathan as having a preference for women, although he usually just doesn't care about romance or sex. Basically I see Jonathan as "I prefer not to date or have sex / I'm indifferent to it, but if it has to be, I prefer to be with a woman than with a man", and I embrace Erica's headcanon (well, one of the headcanons) that Sock is the exception that makes Jonathan not straight xD

After some things that have happened lately, some conversations and a lot of thinking and rethinking, I've decided to split my content (mostly Ed, Edd n Eddy) into two blogs: one SFW sideblog (this one), and one that contains NSFW (18+) content (it's not an adult-only blog, but rather a main blog with all my posts, which also includes some NSFW posts that will be appropriately marked and tagged as such). So if you'd rather not come across 18+ content, follow this SFW blog here instead.

To make it clearer, this SFW blog will not have explicit posts depicting sexual content or graphic violence (18+), but it may contain posts that subtly or briefly mention and/or depict it in a light, subtle or brief way, or posts about cartoons / series / movies / animes not recommended for children but that don't contain any mature content in the post itself. In other words, this is a blog suitable for 14-year-olds and over.

This is just to avoid some conflicting things. Considering that there are a lot of kids in this space and more and more are expressing their discomfort with some types of content, while we adults also want to have our own safe space in this fandom to express ourselves and post our content, I've come to the conclusion that it's better this way.

My old abandoned blog will be my main blog again, something I've wanted to do for some time now since that's my first blog and it's with it that I can like posts and follow other blogs. I'll start migrating (basically reblogging) all the content posted on this current blog there little by little, and delete previous NSFW content posted here.

Okay, here we go...!

Alright, seems there was a lot of discourse in general and I am going to throw my two cents essay in the ring here. I’ve read and spoken to a few people and gotten a better understanding of where some people are coming from and what’s going on. I think there is a HUGE misunderstanding, some people trying to do the right thing and jumping the gun, and also, a handful of problem people that are making everyone toss the baby out with the bathwater (look it up if you don’t know what that means lol). I’m also going to address shipping stuff because my brain keeps walking back to that with all of this. I’m going to use a specific example I have seen in this, so if you recognize yourself, please know I’m not trying to call you out or have people turn against you or anything like that! I’m keeping usernames out of here for a reason! And if anyone recognizes the words… don’t you DARE go after anyone! That isn’t the point of this! I’m also using the term pedos in this because this is what I have seen people talk about in these posts.

So, there are a lot of kids/young adults here on tumblr. This is totally fine. There is nothing wrong with all of you being here and having fun. There is also nothing wrong with anyone here trying to ensure the space stays safe for everyone and doesn’t become a toxic cesspool that ruins it for everyone. But I need everyone to understand something: be careful with how you address the problematic things and how you say things! That isn’t saying “don’t call it out”. Do so! Use that report and block button on the site! But be specific in what you are calling out. General statements such as “I hate when someone older than [random number] says Double D is their love” means you are saying everyone older than that is lusting after this character like a pedo! That might not be what you intended to say, but that is how it comes across. That can be really insulting to a lot of people on here because they aren’t! Many of the adults here grew up with the show and still love it. We want to be able to make and enjoy content with them, but our perspectives are different from when we were the age the kids were. We don’t have a show of them being adults for us to use to really put them into adult situations of any kind, even one as simple as swearing! We don’t really have a space, as adults, to enjoy the cartoons that we still love. So we try to make that space. And many of us have also gone through some serious crap as children and we want to ensure that others don’t go through it as well. So being too general with your statements can give people the very wrong impression and it can make a lot of us feel unwelcome and judged.

It can even make it seem like the entire fandom is nothing but bad people and should be avoided! This was the first impression I got when I came back from my break. The fandom is small and if someone steps into the space and they see a lot of people being super vague implying the fandom is full of pedos, guess what? The new people will leave! And the fandom will continue to be “dead” and have no more new content for us to share and enjoy!

And if you want more content but aren’t getting it, make it! That’s essentially what I’m doing! It doesn’t matter if its “good or bad” quality wise, the more you do something, the better at it you get! And there will always be someone who likes what you do! The comic I am trying to make is for the adults who want more eene (don’t worry, I’m not making it M rated lol). Quite honestly, it’s also going to be my resume so I can try to get a job in the field. Which brings up another thing. Accusing the adults in this fandom of being pedos, intentionally or not, will instantly kill anyone’s career and anyone trying to encourage creativity in here. It is why I was concerned coming back. I don’t want my career to die before it even began! That sucks rocks guys! I love this stuff! It’s my passion! So to have it dead before it began is a really depressing thought!

And to shipping and another point- guys. These are cartoons. They aren’t real. I’m a 90s kid and I’m going to step on my “back in my day” pedestal now lol. I remember when chat forums for fandoms was much more positive because we could actually share our love for something! I was much heavier into fandoms around the early 2010s and when it came to ships- people didn’t argue about them! At least not to the degree people seem to now. But we didn’t tell people that their ship was stupid or problematic or anything like that. Yes, some elements around the ships are problematic and I don’t ship certain characters for that reason, but guys… I read Dark Romances. I’m going to be 100% honest with you, a lot of the stuff in there is all noncon. You would classify the whole genre as problematic and I’m a stupid sucker for it. (And I don’t recommend kids reading it, just to throw that out there! Its adult stuff haha) But you know what? No one who enjoys that is promoting the things within in reality. It is a fantasy. It isn’t reality. And if we don’t talk unjudging about these problems, then we can’t learn to recognize them in real life and say “ah, that’s a red flag, maybe I shouldn’t be in this relationship.” A lot of the romance books I read as a teen had lots of problematic relationships but weren’t classified as such. And  because we didn’t talk about why they were problematic…. We yearned for them! Twilight does NOT have healthy relationships by the way, lol! We can enjoy it and still talk about why its a problem and not want that in real life. It also helps a lot of us process trauma that has happened to us. It’s a safe way for us to explore things that are otherwise unhealthy. I don’t think the problem lies with someone liking the ship itself (I’ll still say some are very questionable though!), but if they try to make it a reality, especially without consent or the understanding that it is adult only role play! Hot take, I know, and I understand why. I really do. But many people like the enemies-to-lovers trope, right? That doesn’t mean that it will result in a healthy relationship in real life or that people want their relationship to be like that! And that’s okay! The real problem is if someone is encouraging you to be in this unhealthy relationship in real life. If someone is using it as a way to desensitize you to these things so they can do them to you. If someone is using your favorite cartoon to say “hey this would be fun, we can pretend we are these characters and role play these adult situations” and you’re underage… SAY NO. I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE HERE!

Lastly, we grew up with a saying for the internet: Don’t feed the trolls. I will try to bring that back because holy hecking guys. From what I’m hearing, its only a few people who are actually problematic. And we all know that there are plenty of people out there who will say and do anything just to get a rise out of someone. Don’t feed into that! Doing so just makes the fandom toxic and keeps people out of it. If there is someone actually promoting and encouraging problematic things- report them! We all want to keep the fandom a safe and positive space. But we have to recognize that the few do not equal the whole and that painting the whole as the few, even accidentally, will not help keep the place safe and fun! Misunderstandings happen too… try to walk away from a situation and come back later when you’re calm. I’m guilty of this too… but it does help so much more in conflict when you aren’t highly emotional over something.

We all want the same thing. A safe and fun space to get away from our crazy daily lives and all the chaos the world has in it. A place to share our common love of something that has brought us joy and even changed our lives. We have to work together to keep this place positive. We have to understand that everyone makes mistakes and that not everything we see is someone trying to promote something horrible. Recognize when it is and if you are unsure- ask! I know there are plenty of people here who would love to give input and ensure that no one ends up in a bad spot! We all want the truly problematic people out of here! And if this hot take makes people lose respect for me…well. Okay. You do you. Just stay safe and find happiness. I’m going to remain straight with everyone and try my best to look at everything from all angles and perspectives, to give a different insight and help encourage mutual understanding. To philosophize and mull over issues so we can attack them together and make the world a better place. I am not going to make everyone happy…and that’s okay. But I’m going to keep trucking forward now and hopefully I can see you along the way!
