Fanfiction is becoming people’s primary form of entertainment right now because most media right now is so cheap, bland, recycled, and sponsored by people who love money more than the source material. Fanfiction is written for free by people who genuinely love what they’re writing about. That’s why it’s better. That’s why it’s more satisfying. Fanfiction is a home-cooked meal made for yourself and for your friends. Media today is junky fast food spoiled by too much grease and the knowledge that the people producing it are being criminally mistreated and underpaid.

horny rocks in space (now with 97% more gay) by aestheticrevolucion and psychedelicbubblegum
To the Fic!
Fandom: Steven Universe
Ships(if applicable): Blue/Yellow primarily. Also, a few side trips with Blue/Yellow Pearl. Some OC/OC as well as some Famathysts/Holly Blue in later chapters. OCs with the diamonds are also in there. Lotta shipping material!
Warnings: Mentions of sexual abuse, rape, and the PTSD that follows.
This fic has been sitting on my browser, waiting to be read through completely for a while now. I can not apologize enough to oh-honey-honeyyyy for the amount of time this took. Life became quite a problem-child these past few months. But that’s neither here nor there. Let’s get started!
To be quite honest, this is my first Steven Universe fic. The idea of Yellow and Blue being a couple was in my mind but it never went too far as far as the idea of the canon went. Then I read this and, honestly, it makes a pretty good argument on what might happen behind the closed doors of the Diamond Authority.
At first, the chapter count of the story was a little intimidating. It sits in the high fifties without any intention of slowing down. But then taking the word count into account, I realized each chapter is left to be small, bite-size pieces. All shows of intimidation flew out the window there.
As I mentioned above, the story is primarily about Blue and Yellow Diamond and all the parts we, as the audience following Steven and the Crystal Gems, don’t typically see. It makes good use of the fear the two obviously hold for White Diamond right off the bat.
That part is not for the faint of heart. It doesn’t go into details but its more effective that way. You get the feeling of something horrible. You will spend a good amount of the time worried about Blue. And, there are times I really felt for her and Yellow’s helplessness in the situation.
On a much lighter note, the story also has quite a bit of pop culture humor going for it. Just like you would assume aliens discovering Earth customs would act, the Diamonds and many of the people below them take to the ideas and memes we all consume on a regular basis. At first, that stood out as a bit strange to me, but with how often Blue seemed to go to Earth to mourn, it’s not that much of a stretch to think she took in some of its cultures. Possibly even taking to some of its drinks and.. a few more adult themed parts. Yes, there is sex and yes it is good. It holds true to its title once it gets to the goods, that’s for damn sure!
I’m in love with the relationship between Blue and Yellow. Their coupling gives me life.
Now, for a few things I noticed; the story seems to take a moment to find its footing. It starts out a little confusing and it took me a bit to figure it out, but it really comes into its own in later chapters. There are a lot of characters to keep up with and I did have moments where I thought I’d lost someone, but that could easily be more my brain than anything else.
This story has so much potential. I want to see it come to meet it. It started out very Slice of Life with some conflict as the story tried to find its barrings, but the later chapters are chock full of conflict and I am ready to see how everyone can get this resolved without pissing off White Diamond too much. (although, I imagine she’s gonna end up pretty pissed anyways.)
Ratings
Boring Grammar Stuff: 7/10 (the beginning shows for a few points where its difficult to comprehend. I personally find it hard to follow the story with large paragraphs and no clear split with the dialogue. It took a second read in some spots to understand it.)
Enjoyment: 9/10 (This is a number that continues to increase with every new chapter!)
Relation to Source: 8/10 (It plays fast and loose with the canon in some places but, as mentioned above, I can’t really say it's not believable!)
Overall Rating: 24/30 (I have every intention of keeping a close eye on this story. I want to see what happens next after the twist introduced in chapter 51.)

EVERYONE PLEASE LISTEN. DO NOT IGNORE THIS.
Article 13 is going into it’s final stages of voting.
If this gets through, it will allow many, many companies to abuse and misuse this article to take down as many memes, fan works, and even other independent creators on sites like YouTube, Facebook, and other websites INCLUDING Tumblr.
THE FAIR USE LAW AND SAFEHARBOR LAW WILL NO LONGER APPLY IN THE U.S OR IN OTHER COUNTRIES.
IT HAS ALREADY PASSED IN SEVERAL OTHER COUNTRIES.
WE CANNOT ALLOW THEM TO TAKE AWAY WHAT WE BUILT FOR THE INTERNET SO FAR.
So here is what you need to do to drag this article down.
1. Spread the word
I can’t stress this enough. The more attention this gets the more people we can get to take this down.
2. Make your own content
Make your own content on the matter and make sure it is clear to others that Article 13 is bad for every internet user involved.
3. If you live anywhere in Europe, contact your MEPs
Ask them if they approve of the article and why. If they do approve of it, try to convince them in a clear, reasonable, and most sensible way possible that this law is BAD.
The article itself is way to vague about what it’s conveying to its people.
Saying that as long as the use of said internet memes or content is good as long as it’s in “good faith.”
We cannot let some shoddy government tell us what we can and cannot post.
FREE SPEECH IS A HUMAN RIGHT. NOT A PRIVILEGE.
Here’s a video on Article 13 that Film Theory made on the matter. It will explain things better than I can.

Fic authors deserve more credit.
Story time: I started a book about 23 hours ago and just finished it. Also in that time I slept for 10 hours, spent time with family, was at work, etc. Anyway, I enjoyed the book (Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda). But it felt like it flew by, so after I finished I looked up the word count because what are pages? Pages are meaningless. I only function in word counts anymore.
The estimate I found was 58,580. My immediate reaction was “oh, that’s why. That’s nothing!” But what a shitty response. Because no. That’s not nothing. That’s a whole. Damn. Book. An entire novel! And Fic authors regularly bust out 30k, 50k, 100k, 150k words. AND THEY DO IT FOR FREE. WHILE WORKING AND LIVING THEIR LIVES.
So anyway, thank your favorite fic author today because they deserve it. Because they’re amazing. They’re the MVPs.

Dragon’s Kiss by Jupiter 13
To the Fic!
Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh!
Ships (If applicable): Puppyshipping primarily, with a mix of Tendershipping, Puzzleshipping, Bronzeshipping, and Chaseshipping. Other, much more minor ships. are also sprinkled throughout.
Warnings: kidnapping and hostage situations as well as a few sex scenes, some of which border on dubious or a lack of consent.
There are, on occasion, times when I want a very good, heavy story. An epic tale that brings me into another world all its own.
You figure that would be just fan fiction in a nutshell but really I’m talking about fantasy worlds. I absolutely love fantasy, especially when a dragon is somehow involved. It’s a not-so-secret weakness of mine. I admire just about any story with the ability to transport me into another world and give me an epic tale from that world.
And this is where Dragon’s Kiss comes in.
This is a pretty old story by fan fiction standards. It’s also one of the longer, more intimidating reads; it sits as a whopping 260K words. But it’s really good at pulling you in.
This story is an AU High Fantasy type that repurposes all the characters in a way that makes (most of them) feel in character. More on the parentheses later.
The story follows Joey, the prince of Domino who has a deep interest in dragons. On his eighteenth birthday, he is gifted a small black dragon and, from there, it summons a very large, very pissed white dragon. He is then taken by the two where he learns more about them. He learns the younger one’s name is Mokuba and the large one is Seto. The two are brothers and the last of their kind.
Yes, Seto and Mokuba are motherfuckin’ dragons in this story!
He also gets to meet Yugi and Ryou from a small village at the base of the dragons’ mountain hideout (two kids born as mages after centuries of extinction) their animal mentors Yami (a hawk who can grow in size) and Bakura (a wolf who can become kind of anthropomorphic ), and Mai (A witch. Exactly what it says on the tin.) Not to mention Ishizu, a healer/helper for Seto and Mokuba who has the power to grant only one, very specific wish. And, later, there's the introduction of Malik, also a helper who’s hellbent on finding other dragons as his mission, and Marik, a werewolf.
Phew, that’s a lot to unpack… As I said, this story’s pretty much an epic.
The story becomes a Beauty and the Beast kind of deal if Belle was well… Joey… and if Beast was… well, Kaiba. But the relationship evolves over time and has a beautiful way of showing how the threats become teasing become flirting become. You know, typical puppyshipping stuff.
But, what would be a good story without a good conflict to match it?
You see, there’s a reason Seto and Mokuba are the last of their kind. And it has a lot to do with a group of witches seeking out and killing both the dragons and the mages. So, when one of the witches who was set on their destruction gets wind of their existence, she teams up with two people looking to take over Joey’s kingdom.
Now, I really did enjoy this story. I read the entire thing in a matter of days which, for its size and my reading speed, is pretty quick. A lot happens in the story and, while it did have moments that seemed unnecessary, it was always interesting.
I do have one minor problem with it and its something I find often with the older fan works. There’s a bit of Tea bashing in this tale. I mean I’ve seen it done a lot worse than this, don’t get me wrong. In fact, it could be explained away as the writer needing a proper bad guy. But, it did get into the idea that this kind of treatment to her character is normal which, at the time, it was. It’s a trope that did not age well and for good reason.
All in all, there are very few complaints from me. I’ve taken the time to enjoy this story a few times. All the main relationships feel real and believable and there were a few times when I felt actually sad for the characters.
Did I cry? ....Maybe.
Where did I cry? Read the story and figure it out!
Ratings:
Boring Grammar Stuff: 9/10 (just a few minor things I noticed that took me from the story. Not much.)
Enjoyment: 10/10
Relation to the Source: N/A
Overall: 19/20 (I still go back to this story for the sake of nostalgia and to read some of my favorite parts. But this epic tale isn’t without its issues. Still, I enjoy this read and I’m pretty sure I’d be far from the only one.)

We Spent Our Darkest Days Howling At The Moon by stereobone
To the Fic!
Fandom: Marvel (Thor specifically)
Ships (if applicable): Thorki
Warnings: Controversial Pairing. Parts get pretty smutty.
(Note: I’ve added a new section to the template that’ll be followed from now on. Please keep in mind not to disrespect anyone for their choice of ship on this page or in general. Really, it’s just a dick thing to do.)
In light of the Infinity War release (and the trauma that followed) I’ve taken to reading and re-reading some fics I picked up while I was neck deep in the Marvel fandom last time. As I did this, I remembered this particular one-shot and found myself drawn back into reading it.
This is a Hipster AU about Loki and Thor that takes place in Seattle where Thor lives and works (In a coffee shop, so kinda Coffee Shop AU-ish.) Loki, on the other hand, is a wanderer and will often disappear without warning for days/weeks/months on end. The story itself begins when he comes back and it takes us through the day to day with Thor’s reaction to Loki being back.
The relationship between the two brothers is pretty much the same as seen in the movies. They are, in fact, brothers raised side by side for so many years and they figure out later that Loki was adopted. Loki’s relationship with Odin is a very tense, cold one while Thor has a tendency to be a little more casual with dear ole Dad. It’s just pretty spot on.
Something about the idea of a Hipster AU just hits me as very charming. I can’t really pinpoint why but I just really enjoy it. Sif and the Warriors Three do make appearances as Thor’s friends. While they don’t seem to have much along the lines of time in the spotlight (as Loki usually takes that for himself) they are pretty close to their canon counterparts as far as personality goes. I really enjoy stories in which they play an important part considering they were kind of shoved off to the sides in the movies.
Speaking of shoving them off to the side, I’m going to talk about our main players now. Thor is pretty great in this. I kind of felt bad for him at the beginning because, just like canon, he really does love his brother. He wants their relationship to be a great one but he also wants Loki to be happy. Whatever that happens to mean. It really captures the idea of Thor being trapped in a situation where he clearly loves his brother but is deeply frustrated by Loki as well.
I’m not ashamed to admit that my first read through (before the idea of a review came to mind) I got a little misty-eyed towards the end. I won’t say why, as that goes into details of the fic you might want to read, but it was for good reason.
As it is a controversial ship fan fiction with actual sexy sex scenes in it, I would like to say this isn’t for everyone in the fandom. For the Thorki bunch, I would definitely recommend. It’s a beautiful take on these characters. Its got a very romantic vibe to it that’s hard for me not to get behind.

Blood on The Leaves by Hikari_and_Yami
To The Fic!
Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh!
Warnings: Violence, Adult language, References to abuse both sexual and physical
Let me start by saying, I adore Yu-Gi-Oh (Season Zero and Duel Monsters, at least. Never really watched the others… Someday, I’ll make time for them.) The story and the characters are always welcome in my mind and I will happily consume anything having to do with them.
That being said, I also love the idea of someone taking a character and seeing how far they can bend them without completely breaking them. That’s what happens in the Blood on The Leaves series.
It’s currently unfinished and on its second part, but I’ve read through Loyal five or six times and Wolves at least twice. What we have here is a gangster AU of the darkest variety. It follows Atemu and puts some of his darker traits on full display, basically Season Zero’s sadism with Duel Monster’s charm. But as much as I love Atemu in this, the real star is Yuugi.
As I mentioned before, this AU bends the characters. It warps them in a way that, at first, feels clear out of their wheelhouse. But the more I look and analyze, the more it makes sense to me. You’re introduced to the dynamic early and it takes a dark angle on Puzzleshipping. Yuugi is every bit the chaos you would expect from Atemu. There’s no nice way to say it; he’s batshit crazy. But it’s believable. It’s what Yuugi would become if these events played out as described.
You see, he’s crazy and chaotic, but it’s strangely calculated. He has his soft spots; some for protective reasons, others are well… Atemu, I guess. The characters are very, admittedly, OOC but they do a very good job at showing the path of how they became like this.
I feel for the little psycho in this story and, on occasion, wonder what would happen if a Yuugi closer to canon got to meet this crazed maniac. Sort of like a ‘past is coming back to haunt’ type situation. I think it’s also worth mentioning that it keeps to a theme that feels very canon. Without going too much into detail, it’s clear Atemu was born into his situation while Yuugi was forced into it in his teen years. A nice parallel to Atemu being born into the Pharaoh thing while Yuugi was forced into it the moment he solved the Puzzle at sixteen.
The way the story is worded throughout sort of makes me feel like it’s in Atemu’s thoughts. It’s sarcastic and cynical with most things, save the descriptions of Yuugi (in most cases.)
The series isn’t quite finished yet. Hikari_and_Yami is still working on Wolves which I wait to read with bated breath as they introduce a character I’ve been waiting for. I won’t say who as I want you to read it but this character isn’t typically portrayed in fanfiction all that kindly. Especially when the fandom was a little newer, there was quite a bit of bashing. It’s very nice to see them handled properly. It shows they had a lot of potentials that most people forget to tap into.
All in all, great story, great characters, just fantastically entertaining. I can’t wait to see where it goes.

Flower is not a Good Life Coach by unrestedjade
To the Fic!
Fandom: Undertale
Warnings: Violence, Abuse (physical and emotional), Suicide ideation, and other pretty fucked up shit
I found this one through a bunch of comments on Tumblr where everyone was talking about how much it tore into them. Of course, that made me a bit curious and I dove in. Excuse me for being a little late to this particular party.
At first, the word count was a bit intimidating. But I finished the whole story in a weekend, even with the breaks I needed to take so I could remember to breathe. The comments I read before weren’t exaggerating.
The story follows Pre-game Papyrus and Flowey back when our favorite homicidal plant was still able to do the resets. In the game, we know Flowey has some sort of relationship with Papyrus. Possibly because the big goof likes to see the good in everyone, even when they’re about to kill him. But this relationship turns into something horrible in this particular run when Flowey sees how far he can bend the skeleton until he would break.
The story has a very interesting take on the relationship. When you really think about it, there must have been a few times when Flowey became bored and decided to see who he could torture and how far he could push it. Considering how open he is, Papyrus would be a prime target for it. But of course, this wouldn’t be a good story if that’s all there was to it.
It really gets in there with the different types of relationships in the Underground. From Sans and Undyne’s different ways of protecting Papyrus to Alphys having a slightly more gentle approach, it really paints a picture of all these characters and how much they care about one another. It also gives a look into the different dimensions of Papy’s own personality and what kind of things he’s willing to do in order to keep his friends and family out of harm’s way.
I’m also a big fan of anything that reminds us of who Flowey really is deep down. The few times Papyrus tried to appeal to what was left of Asriel was heartbreaking. Even more so being that it didn’t work.
All in all, Flowey is Not a Good Life Coach is very much one of my favorites but it’s not a story for the faint of heart. There is torture and abuse in many different forms. There are even times where you can feel how isolated Papyrus himself felt. So, I would recommend anyone who wants to read this to tread very carefully.
Also, there is a lot of very good fanart for this fic but much of it can spoil scenes. Keep that in mind when looking things up on Tumblr.

The Template (Title, Author)
Before this first paragraph will be the link to the story. In this paragraph itself, it will be the fandom(s) of which the story is a part. It’ll probably say something along the lines of “Fandom(s): The Sink Fandom.” (If there are originals done, then it will simply say that.) This is also where the genre will be, but who really cares too much about genre when it comes to fan fiction. Someone does, that’s why I put it like this.
Warnings: Just as it sounds, this is where I will inform you of any concerns that may cause something to be unsuitable. This can vary from suggestive moments to extreme cases that may be disturbing to some readers.
This paragraph, and many after, will be mostly my thoughts on the story. I will try to keep it pretty spoiler-free, as I want you to enjoy the read just as much as I did. The review will be largely opinion-based.
Keep in mind, I am a very open-minded person. But I’m still a person with likes, dislikes, assumptions, beliefs and all that.
Rating (There will be three categories, two on AUs)
Boring Grammar Stuff: (I’m no English teacher so this is very loose. It’s really just Readability; does the story make sense? Is there clearly care going into the writing? On a scale of 1-10)
Enjoyment: (Exactly as it sounds; was the story enjoyable? on a scale of 1-10)
Relation to Source: (For AUs, this part will be removed as there’s rarely a clear relation. But, for non-AUs, how well does the story pertain to its source? On a scale of 1-10)
Overall: (Non-AUs will be out of 30. AUs will be out of 20. It’s a loose rating system as I reserve the right to go higher by rating a 12/10 or something. Meaning, if points are lost in one area, they can be gained in another.)
The Template is subject to change as I find new and better ways to do these things.
