My K-Pop Hot Takes part 1 : Boy Groups (Seventeen edition)
I wrote a longer version including other boy groups, I'm just making separate post for BTS, BTS part 2, Ateez, and Seventeen cus I have enough to say about them.
original post
.......................................
I've been holding this in for a while.
Seventeen's fandom is like a cult of boymoms.
I was a Carat for four months before I unstanned. This is more of a personal story I want to rant about.
I see a lot of people say that Carats are one of the chillest fandoms in Kpop, but after being a part of it for as long as I did, I realize why they think that. Anytime Svt has a controversy, Carats rush to immediately sweep it under the rug and never let anything get out to Kpop public.
Around their 10th year anniversary, a lot was happening. I don't support Ai in art/writing or Israel, but my opinions on those topics weren't strong enough for me to leave. It wasn't until Gyucheol's collab with Choiza, Sulli's groomer, when my opinion on the fandom and group started to change. Everyone on Twitter was telling each other to boycott the video, only hold Choiza accountable, and just 'educate' (protect) Svt so they don't do it again.
This is what happens when fans baby grown men, they think idols don't know anything outside of the industry and needs to be protected at all cost.
In less than three days, any talk of it was gone and everyone moved on like nothing had happened. I waited a week to see if Gyucheol would apologize or explain, but all they did was continue to promote Choiza.

Two months later and their account's still dedicated to Scoups, so they proved themself right. All the Carats who were questioning on whether to unstan had a spine of a toothpick. I feel like I'm the only one who took it seriously and left permanently. I doubt anyone remembers what they did anymore. Sulli deserves better.
(I'm about to get political for a sec) If people can say that being neutral on the Palestine-Israel conflict right now makes them a bad person, I can say someone who supports a groomer shouldn't be blindly trusted by their female/underage fans. Even though Gdragon kinda sexualizes women a lot in his music mvs/lyrics, at least he's doing everything in his power to show that he hates Seungri, and cut Soohyun from his show.
Svt and other groups have probably done more good than bad during their career, I'm not trying to turn them into villains. I just don't like Carats and took the opportunity to escape the fandom shortly after to actually put women first and prove to myself that I hadn't become a delusional hypocrite. I'd rather disapprove of the entire group rather than become a soloist. I didn't unstan Svt just because of their support of Choiza, it was mostly the lack of reaction and drama the fandom had over it.

With how big BTS's fandom is, it's pretty much impossible to suppress everything they do, so at least they didn't suppress all the drama going on after 3 days.
One point to Armys.
I still kinda miss my Carat era, it was probably the most fun I had with Kpop. My 'biases' were Seungkwan and Vernon, but now that some time has passed, I'm glad I left at the time I did. I realized it's only easy to unstan a group if something one or two of the members did was enough for me to associate their actions with anyone related to them. Unstanning Ateez because of the annoying fandom was a little harder to do because the members themselves hadn't done anything wrong. I just had to associate the horrible individual fandoms with the respective members, and that somehow worked.
After some time away, whenever Svt pop up on my Twitter feed, I just have neutral feelings about them. It's like if those four months never happened. If I had waited even longer, the bitter taste of the collab would fade and I'd still be stuck in the fandom. And if something like that wasn't enough for me to leave, then nothing would be.
they were a nice experience tho

hot take: Akuhigu isn’t actually that toxic, I just think Higuchi deserves someone who loves and respects her back, and that’s not Akutagawa
#bungo stray dogs#bsd#ichiyo higuchi#bsd higuchi#higuchi ichiyo#akutagawa ryuunosuke#Akuhigu#Platonic akuhigu is cute#maybe after 10 more years of character development akutagawa will be nice to higuchi

There’s so little canon content outside of volleyball that people just started gaslighting the fandom until we created one collective delusion
#not that i'm complaining#this is the most united fandom I've ever been a part of#haikyuu#Oikawa’s knee injury is definitely real

The pipeline from one fandom to the next is so interesting to me.
Insane how the one who got me into Kpop was BigBang's Daesung, and the one who introduced me to BigBang was Seunghyun through Squid Game, and the thing that got me into Squid Game was some random TikTok edit of Thanos and Tendou from Haikyuu.
#and the one who had gotten me into Seventeen was Hoshi's reaction to Gdragon at Mama 2025#and the thing that got me into Dreamcatcher was their cover of Bang Bang Bang#kpop#kang daesung#choi seunghyun#bigbang#thanos squid game#player 230#squid game#tendou satori#haikyuu#haikyuu tendou#daesung and tendou appreciation time#they're both underrated in their own fandoms

Myung-Gi constantly repeating that he would protect Jun-Hee only for him to forget about her because of his greed and then murder the woman who bled and killed to actually protect Jun-Hee. Hyun-ju, my angel, your soul was too kind for this world, you deserved so much better.

I can't believe I'm doing all this to defend a straight ship.
Everything about Daily Dose Of Sunshine is perfect, but it's kinda hard to enjoy the fandom when the annoying shippers and Namgyu/Seowan fans flood in to ignore canon.
I personally didn't continue watching the Kdrama for the romance, but the little subplot was cute and I enjoyed it. It barely affected the main plot and I feel like it was just there to fill space between the depression.
I already explained in my last post why Seowan x Daeun is weird (to me). He's her patient, it's unethical.
This was taken from my last DDOS post, too, but I'll say it again. It's annoying when people complain that Daeun should have ended up with Yuchan. Daeun never showed any signs of romantic attraction towards him. Why can't a woman and man just be friends? Is it some kind of insecurity within yourself? Is that why so many people root for the underdog? I feel like his one-sided attraction was also important for Yuchan's character, because it shows how fragile and weak he is compared to Goyoon. It's weird when people ignore the perfectly healthy and ethical relationship between Daeun and the Goyoon in favor of shipping her with her responsibility, or the guy who unintentionally made her depression worse. It's kinda sad how Goyoon is so underrated/overhated, too.
The love triangle was kinda annoying, but I'm glad it wrapped itself up before the plot shifted to a more serious tone. I'm also glad it ended the way it did, with Yuchan realizing he missed his shot too many times. So what if he loved her? Daeun chose who she wanted in the end, respect that. He did.
I see a lot of people hating on Goyoon, so I'll try to defend him. Yeah, it was kinda weird when he was borderline stalking her, but it didn't affect Daeun in any negative way. And it was weird how he was struggling to do anything without her around, but I think it was just for filler. And it's weird how Daeun "fixed" his OCD habit with his hand just by being around him, but there are some temporary solutions to OCD like mindfulness and health distractions. I think she served as a healthy distraction from the stress or whatever caused the knuckle cracking. You could say that she's his daily dose of sunshine.
Daeun and Goyoon had the most anticlimactic, realistic, lowkey romantic relationship I've ever seen in a Kdrama, and I like that. They never kissed or had a dramatic love confession, it just kinda happened naturally off screen. They just hold hands and go running together. Their relationship didn't waste too much screen time for the more important parts of the show.
And they didn't officially get together until she was, for the most part, healthy again. I'm not saying someone with a mental health condition can't love someone, but it's better to wait before rushing into a relationship. It's not like Daeun is completely cured from her depression and is completely over Seowan's death. Goyoon's just being her daily dose of sunshine by helping her stay mentally healthy (by running together). Is that not what she literally said in the epilogue? After Seowan's death, Goyoon respected Daeun's wishes to have a month-long break from seeing each other and I feel like his distress was mostly played for laughs. When he saw her struggling, someone pointed this out already, he always put her mental health first above all else.
They didn't "fix" each other, they were just part of each other's support system.
And I just want to point out that Goyoon's entire world doesn't completely revolve around Daeun. When he was wasting time alone, he customized the puzzle he bought to see Daeun, and he never cropped out Yuchan, so I like that little detail. It shows that he still cares about the person he knew first. Episode 3 perfectly highlighted the relationship Goyon and Yuchan have with each other. And the love triangle didn't ruin everything, they're still friends in the end with basically the same dynamic. "I wish I could hate you". The two guys have so much chemistry together, they could have also just settled the love triangle by making a polycule or something. He also didn't give up his job to be closer with Daeun (they already work in the same building, but still.)
I liked how the show didn't separate the main three guys from each other for women, they're all still friends in the end. This Kdrama's more of a women-centric show, so most of the guys don't have that much going on outside of the women they're attracted to, but they still have other relationships. Seowan's also the reason both Daeun and Goyoon started catching feelings for each other. Every time they saw the other helping Seowan (ex. first meeting, the rooftop), the Kdrama did the thing showing that there's something there.
And if you still don't like the ship, you can just make everyone gay. Goyoon and Yuchan could have had ended up together, and Daeun and the other nurses could have had their own polycule. This show has amazing mlm and wlw potential. I just wanted to defend the canon ship and say that Goyoon isn't as bad as some people make him out to be.

YES
I was really afraid daily dose of sunshine was gonna pull the "romance fixes her" trope, but no! bro just put the flowers away during his confession to a VERY depressed Daeun and ended it with "let's go see a doctor"

I can't believe the first fic I ever read was for a straight ship that canonically has an age gap of 17-18 years.
#is was maulsoka#I was 12 and didn't put two and two together#Ahsoka and Maul was canonically 17 and 34 at the time the fic took place#at least the writer aged up Ahsoka to 22#siege of mandalore#clone wars season 7#star wars#shipping#maulsoka#darth maul#ahsoka tano#the fic was actually good

The way most autism literature describes "literal interpretation" is often not at all similar to how I experience it. Teenage me even thought I couldn't be autistic because I've always been able to learn metaphors easily.
In fact, I love wordplay of all kinds. Teenage me was fascinated to learn all the types of figurative language there are in poetry and literature.
But paperwork and questionnaires are hard, because there's so much they don't state clearly. Or they don't leave room for enough nuance.
"List all the jobs you've had, with start and end dates." What if I don't remember the exact day or month? Is the year enough?
"Have you been suffering from blurred vision?" Well, if I take off my glasses the whole world is blurred, but I'm fairly sure that's not what the intake form at the optometrist is asking.
Or the infamous (and infuriatingly stereotypical) "Would you rather go to a library or a party?" What sort of party? Where? Who's there? I work at a library. Am I currently at the library for work or pleasure? Does it have a good collection?
It's not common figures of speech that confound me. It's ambiguity, in situations that aren't supposed to be ambiguous.
