The Problem with Fan Casting

Okay, so I enjoy a good fan cast. I will admit, it is cool to see what people think of in terms of fan casting. However, while I do think there are many pros for it..we are going to be talking about bad fan castings. 

If you think that one day Oscar Isaac will play Doctor Strange then I genuinely think the earth is flat (Which it isn’t). I know you are probably reading this right now and saying “It’s just for fun, and it is the thought that counts” Yeah that’s true but their people really lean on these thoughts and are convinced this will one day happen. 

Hoe does one make a good fan cast? 

Well first, in my opinion, is to STOP PUTTING A-LIST ACTORS IN THE CAST. I am not saying that an A-List actor shouldn’t be cast, but some of the choices I see are awful! Like for example (this pissed me off the most) Chris Pratt as Batman.WHAT??? I like Chris Pratt. He is so funny in Parks and Rec, and I am a huge lego person so I loved the Lego Movie. Guardians Of The Galaxy is an amazing movie (both of them) and I love other work of his like Passenger and Moneyball. But Chris Pratt as Batman is like putting Gilbert Gottfried as the voice of Darth Vader. It just doesn’t fit. Maybe he could do It as a joke but not in an actual movie. A List big-name celebrities to play superheroes is not always the best choice. I do think that sometimes the actor is perfect for the role. But that’s a topic for another post. I really don’t want to see Tom Cruise a 5’7” actor to pull up in the Batmobile and fights crime with his weird big teeth and the one tooth that is exactly dead center of his face. If I see Tom Cruise playing Batman I wouldn’t think he’s Batman I would be thinking “it’s just Tom Cruise.” To play Batman you gotta be pretty convincing. And he’s a short boy! Batman is a strong 6’2” and the only actor to be the exact height of him (on screen) is Adam West. Kevin Conroy is 6’2” but he’s the voice of Batman so technically he isn’t on the screen like West or Bale. Robert Pattinson is 6’1” and that’s close enough to It. So if I see Tom Cruise or Nick Jonas fan castings It just makes me laugh. Number 1 because that just should never happen in any universe for multiple different reasons and number 2 is they don’t have the physique of him. Now before you think I am hating on these actors let me clarify, I am NOT! I don’t hate Tom Cruise or Nick Jonas of anyone who I’ve mentioned in this post. But I don’t think they are fit for these roles. If you really want to believe that our next Superman should be Will Smith or Armie Hammer you probably don’t understand the personality and role Superman takes on. The Joker, for example, is probably, in my opinion, an extremely hard role to cast. That’s probably because everyone who got cast before Jared Leto was great at It. You have some big shoes to fill when you take on the role of the Joker. Heath Ledger did a breathtaking portrayal of the joker that still holds up to this date. Not for a single second did I get taken out of the movie by the performance that he and everyone else did in The Dark Knight. Jack Nicholson Joker was a dark humor Joker that fit the tone of the Tim Burton Batman series. You could tell that he was WAS The Joker from that era of comics. And Cesar Romero is just the wacky joker because everything in that show was wacky. So when I see they want to cast Johnny Depp as Joker or whoever you just picture in your mind what It would look like and honestly… It isn’t a pleasant thought. Not to mention how the movie would even turn out…I can honestly say when Johnny Depp gets cast as the Joker you’ll know the guy playing Batman is Tom Cruise. I know I couldn’t get to everyone but I am sure you get the idea. Again, I am not saying that every A-List actor shouldn’t be cast as a superhero. I am saying to really think about the fan cast you want and ask yourself if It really is a good idea..(John Cena as Captain America Is a huge no) Fan castings are hard to make. You really got to think about It and not just jump to your favorite actors. Because sometimes they aren’t always the right celebrity for the job.

I wanted to talk about the new casting for “The Batman” and I know this might be a little late, but I’ve taken the time to really think about this decision. I’ll be honest this decision had me a little confused at first. But I don’t really think it’s a bad choice. Honestly, I am really excited to see where this could take us. Robert Pattinson is an unusual choice but frankly, I think it’s a good one.

First off I’d like to say I don’t think he is a bad actor. High Life starring Robert Pattinson, is a very dark movie. I suggest watching it and you definitely see his character grow towards the end. In the movie, his character starts off as a criminal getting sent away in space but then he has a daughter and ends up being alone in space with her. You see him transform from criminal to father by the end. This is an important trait that anyone who is being cast as Batman to have. It’s being able to transition in a movie and make It believable. Christian Bale’s Batman throughout the trilogy shows a Batman that is still learning and growing. In some of the fight scenes, you can see he makes mistakes and will sometimes lose. But if he loses he will work hard to make sure he doesn’t make the same mistake twice. You can see him get stronger and better if you watch all 3 back to back.

Now obviously there are other Batman’s like the Michael Keaton Batman who does an excellent job at being the more quiet and mysterious Batman.

Val Kilmer Batman who I think plays a very convincing Bruce Wayne.

Adam West Batman who just makes you laugh

Ben Affleck Batman is not a good Batman. I was furious because I knew that this choice was going to be bad. Ben Affleck brought no real sense to the character. He was just angry and weird deep voice and he had a gun.. and killed people! Obviously, Zack Snyder was the one who made the decision to do that. But Ben Affleck didn’t make it any better. He was just too bulky and big and honestly not the real guy for the job. Go back to accountant work.. or whatever. I get mad even just typing it!!

I am very excited and going to keep an open mind for this Batman movie. I think Robert Pattinson haters really don’t like the choice because all they know is twilight. That’s the only real thing they’ve probably seen him in. Yeah Twilight was cringe and obviously, his acting is bad in those movies but you have to check out his new stuff. He has grown as an actor and I think he has a lot of potentials. I think an actor being able to transition from a really well known popular movie franchise (such as Twilight) is an actor who honestly has a ton of potential to be the next caped crusader. Batman has two sides to him. A billionaire playboy and Crusader by night. Robert Pattinson has already shown us that he is capable of showing a transformation in character in some movies. Even just transitioning over from Edward Cullen in Twilight is impressive, considering the shit people give the movies. 

So I am going to give this movie a chance, and I hope this doesn’t crash and burn like BvS.
