religion and faith being portrayed so blatantly as tools for mass manipulation is actually so incredibly important. the fremen follow paul blindly in his quest for revenge under the belief that he will bring them paradise. in reality he is using them to fight his war. he’s not the good guy. he’s not a messiah. he just filled this role in a story that was made up by the bene ghesserit.
in reality he is an oppressor just like the harkonnens (there are so many parallels between him and Feyd-Rautha/his attack on the harkonnens in part two and theirs on the atreides in part one. he is actually a harkonnen. they aren’t any different.)
paul (at jessicas will) uses the fremen to gain power and control. he makes them into a loyal army by claiming to be their saviour and manages to completely change their way of life and their values (that scene where they burn the bodies of the harkonnens instead of turning them to water was so heartbreaking to me). he placed himself at the top of the dir society and gives himself a holy, untouchable status where his word is gospel and no one can challenge it (it is sickening how much this reminded me of ww2 germany where nazi propaganda became a replacement for religion and hitler was put in an almost godlike status)
the point is: faith is a powerful tool. it has been the reason for so many wars in history, because people use it to justify the cruelest of actions.

sooo i just watched dune part 2 ….and i have a lot of thoughts!!!!
first of all: loved this film. a masterpiece. once in a lifetime experience. the cinematography, the costumes, the sets, the acting are all so good it makes me want to cry just thinking about it. everyone in the cast is so talented and attractive it’s kinda offensive
As someone who hasn’t read the book: the story is truly impactful in so many ways that i cannot describe or grasp fully… the symbolism that connects it to real historical events and shows the criticism of imperialism, oppression and thirst for power in our own world is so cleverly weaved into the story it actually made me drop my jaw multiple times
unfortunately also as someone who hasn’t read it and didn’t know what was going to happen: at some points i felt like the pacing was kinda…off?? i didn’t understand some stuff because it was glossed over or felt sorta clunky. i imagine some of it was in service to the books — little details that were added to be truthful to the source material, but didn’t really do much for the movie itself (e.g. feyd-rauthas cannibal girl squad? they were shown once but didn’t really add anything to the plot…his actions and everything about him portrayed his sociopathic behaviour and sadist/masochist tendencies in an effective manner already…the girlies just confused me). + some other stuff could have been explored a little more idk
this is just complaining on a really high level though. i loved this film and i will be sat for part three!!!

there was a moment when the people in the movie theatre and the capitol audience in the stands were laughing at the same things, having the same reactions to the games, to the deaths, to flickermans jokes, to the doctor's announcement...i wonder aren't we watching it for entertainment too
suzanne collins' books may exist in popular culture as "dystopian", but they have always been a meticulous and startlingly close social critique of our world. at what point does our own idolization of the movies and the books repeat that story? we watch just as the capitol audience does.
all dystopia eventually crosses a line from realistic futurism to current relevancy. how long will it take us to realize we've already crossed that line with these books? and the very people who need to realize this are the ones in that audience...real or fake, we're the same: consuming and consuming.

what makes Snow such a formidable villain within THG universe is that nothing he does was set in stone. there was no sense of inevitability about his actions and his brutality. Snow had enough perspective of poverty, capital cruelty, district hunger and not to mention his own arena experience’ and yet he actively chose at every moment to stray from natural goodness. its even more terrifying in the sense that he had the ability to care. Snow is not a mindless sociopath, he displays feelings to others such as sejanus, lucy grey and tigris but ultimately he will always choose himself. his ability to betray those he cared about in order yo advance himself makes him so much more than the stereotypical villain who is forced into his actions.

!!!!mild eternals spoilers !!!
So since it was basically confirmed that dc exists as a fictional universe in the mcu and Barry Keoghan is in the new Batman movie…does that mean that
a) Druig has a doppelgänger who is an actor or
b) Druig left his little village in Peru to film this movie bc he is secretly a Batman fan
AND since it’s already after 2023 (bc of the blip) and the movie is already out … DID ANY OF THE OTHERS SEE IT
