The Girl Who Fell In Love With The Sea.
Summary: You tell your daughter the story of how you met Arthur.
Warnings: a very very slight suggestive sentence, fluff, pregnancy (if you'd count that as a warning)
A/N: Just a little fluffy fic for y'all about our fave protector of the oceans. Y/D/N stands for 'your dad's name'.

"Okay time for bed," you picked up your daughter, Meribella, and carried her to bed.
"Can you tell me a bedtime story, mommy?" She pleased with puppy dog eyes and a gentle pout "Pleaseeeeee!" She droned.
"Alright," you softly chuckled "What story do you want?"
She didn't dare hesitate "The one where the girl falls in love with the sea!"
You stopped for a moment to smile, you knew it was her favourite and despite hearing the story countless of times before, she listened to it as if it was the first time she was hearing it. "Alright, but don't get too overexcited!" You playfully warned "You can barely get to sleep after you hear this story." You sat down next to her on the bed and put an arm around her, "Once upon a time there was a girl. A girl who was completely ordinary in every way. One summer she was staying near the sea. The little cabin she was staying in looked out over the beach and then to the deep blue sea beyond that..."
•••
"Home sweet home for the next couple of months," you sighed out and placed down a box filled with trinkets from home.
"Yeah well I'm only up the hill in the lighthouse should you need anything!" Your dad groaned as he placed down your things "What the hell have you got in here?"
You laughed and gently pat his back "I'll buy you a beer at the bar to say thanks," you looked around with a grin on your face "I really mean it, dad. Thank you for all your help. I can't wait to start researching!" You clapped your hands together "Okay let me get changed and I'll meet you in say...half an hour?"
Your dad playfully rolled his eyes "Two hours it is..." he left you to get changed and settled into your new place. It was beautiful and airy and overlooked the beach and the sea. You were a marine biologist, a determined one. You were constantly trying to make the sea a cleaner place for the wildlife that lived beside it and in it and often spent your days cleaning up all the rubbish and plastic from the coastline.
After grabbing a quick shower and changing, you made your way down to the bar and met your dad. He grabbed a seat while you got the first round. You handed the bartender over what you owed and sharply turned around, crashing right into someone "Oh I'm-" you cut yourself off and looked up to face the figure that towered over you "I'm sorry..." you sheepishly apologised.
"No harm done," the stranger smiled "Arthur Curry," he stuck his hand out and you shook it "You must be new here. I haven't seen you around."
"Uh yeah I'm new. How did you know?"
Arthur shrugged a shoulder "It's a quiet town and everyone knows everyone."
You slowly nodded "Well it's nice to meet you, Arthur. I'm Y/N Y/L/N."
"Y/L/N? Are you related to Y/D/N?" Arthur asked.
You nodded "I am indeed, do you want to join us?" Arthur said yes without an ounce of hesitation. "What's your poison?" You asked turning towards the bar again.
"Just what you're having, thanks." Arthur approached your father and the two hugged each other. Your dad looked over the moon to see him. A few minutes later you joined them at the table "Y/N, your father mentioned you were living in the city?"
"I was yeah, I moved here to continue with my research," you took a sip of your beer and glanced over to your father.
"What's your research?" Arthur asked.
"I'm a marine biologist," as soon as you said that you noticed Arthur's eyes light up "I'm recording how much litter, plastics in particular, is along our coastlines while trying to clear it up." Arthur's eyes glistened, he had heard of you and was sure Mera had mentioned a girl who was trying to clean up beaches.
"Amazing," he sent you a smile that gave you the good kind of goosebumps. "I admire you for doing that." You bashfully smiled and modestly waved off his complement. "Can I get you another?" He asked motioning towards your almost empty beer bottle.
"Sure, thank you. Dad, you want another?" You asked and he refused, telling the two of you to drink on. He was heading home for the night leaving you with Arthur. "So, what do you do?" You asked him.
Arthur smirked "Similar to you. I'm just trying to do my bit for the oceans."
"You're a marine biologist too?" You asked, taking another sip of beer.
"Uh of sorts, I guess," he replied leaving an air of mystery around him. "Perhaps I'll see you around, Y/N. Would be a privilege seeing a face like yours on the beach." He winked and bid you goodnight. You sat by the table with a slacked jaw. Did he just flirt with you? You glanced over your shoulder and watched the handsome stranger leave, whipping your head back round again when you noticed him looking back to you. You brought the bottle of beer to your lips with a smile.
The following day you were sitting on the white, golden sand on your beach towel writing down some notes. Even though the sky was a little dull, it was still a beautiful day. You glanced up when you heard sloshing in the water and saw Arthur emerge wearing nothing but deep green swim shorts. Your breath caught in your throat when you saw a multitude of beautiful tattoos etched onto his skin, each one hugging his unmissable muscles. "Whatcha doing?" He asked suddenly sitting next to you, droplets of water falling from his hair and beard.
"I uh-" you cleared your throat and showed him "Making notes of my research. I took some photos of the area and began cleaning up a bit this morning." You looked down to your notes and explained them to Arthur "I've been sending my findings to councils and businesspeople who could really help with cleaning up but," you sadly smiled "None of them listen no matter how loud I shout."
Arthur's eyes softened "I think what you're doing is incredible and I'm very thankful for it. I'm sure the ocean is too," he tried to reassure you with a pearly white smile. "If it's alright with you, could I have copies of what you've done? I think I might have a friend who can help you out."
"R-really?! Y-yeah!" You excitedly stood up "I can do that right now! My house is just there and I can email you my research." You motioned him to follow you. You picked up your towel, shook the sand off and without giving it a second thought, placed it over Arthur's shoulders "Sorry," your mouth nervously twitched upwards "But you must be freezing after that swim." Arthur stood in the one position for a moment with a lopsided grin on his face, watching you enter your house. He was starting to more than just admire what you did...he was starting to admire you.
Weeks turned into months and you were well underway with your research. Arthur had forwarded your emails to his friend- he still hadn't told you who it was- and aside from emails moving forward, your relationship with Arthur was too. There was no denying he was handsome, every time he stepped into the same room as you all air would whoosh out your lungs and you'd momentarily forget how to breathe. When Arthur saw you it felt like he was floating on the surface of the ocean. When he was with you he felt that same feeling of calmness and peace...a wholeness even. He was always two halves of a whole- land and sea. But when he felt the sea hugging his back and the air kissing his exposed skin, he felt whole. Wether he was on land or in the sea; he always felt like that when he thought of you.
"Are you busy tomorrow?" He asked out of the blue. He met you at the store and offered to carry your shopping and walk you home.
"I've got a little research to do in the morning and afternoon but I should be free anytime after five- six at the latest." You told him.
He stopped and handed over your shopping when you reached your place "Do you want to have dinner with me? Say around...seven thirty?"
You tried to play it cool but failed terribly, Arthur could have probably guessed your answer from how wide your smile was. "Yes! I would love to have dinner with you."
He scratched the back of his neck "Re-really? Great! I'll uh...see you then!" He waved you goodbye with a huge grin on his face.
The next day you took a sailboat out and sailed around the coast, taking more photos. You checked your watch, it was almost five so you decided to head back. There was a rumble of thunder around you and the tide changed quicker than you anticipated. Instead of heading back to shore you where being pulled out further to sea. You tried not to panic, you knew panicking would make the situation worse and if that happened you could make a silly mistake and that could be the difference between life or death. The rope holding your sail came loose and your vision was becoming blurry from the drops of rain on your eyelashes. A gust of wind caught you off guard and you lost control of the wheel, slipping on the wet deck and knocking yourself out cold.
Arthur checked his watch again. It was 8:15. Something was wrong. He pulled out his phone and dialled your dad who said he hadn't seen you all day, not since you went out on your little sailboat. Arthur's head snapped around upon hearing a crash of thunder, his stomach instantly dropping. He ran outside and was instantly drenched in the rain. The waves were smashing against the rocks, wild and recklessly. Without hesitating, Arthur ran towards the sea, ripping off his shirt and diving into the sea to find you.
You came to with a harsh gasp before coughing up a lungful of salty water. The boat had completely capsized and you had washed up on an rocky outcrop. You tried moving but a shooting pain spread throughout your leg. It was all cut and bleeding from where it had scraped off the rock. Another wave crashed against you, you thought all hope was lost until you saw something golden underneath the waters surface. You swore it was Arthur's face before your eyes completely shut over.
Arthur sat by your hospital bedside loosely holding your hand. You groaned before waking up, being greeted by bright, blinding light. "Arthur?" You squinted your eyes.
He stood up and smiled "Y/N! You're awake. You're in hospital. There was a storm and your boat capsized quite far out."
"I don't know if I'll make dinner," that made Arthur laugh and you managed to groggily laugh too.
"That's alright, we can have dinner anytime." Arthur brushed his fingers across your hairline "When I saw you out there with your leg all cut up, I was so worried. You passed out in my arms and I-" he rambled before snapping his mouth shut when he realised he had said too much.
You blinked away your surprise "I thought it was you..." you whispered "You're not like regular guys are you?"
"No, I'm not." He paused and looked at you through his lashes "Is that a bad thing?"
You smiled and leaned up in your bed "Most definitely not."
Your lips met in the middle. His had the faintest taste of salt on them.
•••
"Eventually the girl and the man from the sea got married. He found the most beautiful pearl in all the seven seas and had it put on a ring for her." You looked down at your daughter who's head was on your stomach, her eyes half hooded. "And then-"
"-And then they had a little girl and named her 'beautiful star of the sea' because she was just that." Meribella gasped and jumped out of bed.
"Daddy!" She squealed and Arthur picked her up. You smiled and he sent you a wink "We're almost finished our story!"
"Oh really?" He placed Meribella back in bed and sat on the other side of her so she was sandwiched between the two of you "'The Girl who fell in love with the Sea' is my favourite. Since I'm home early, I can take over from your mom?" He glanced up to you and you silently motioned for him to continue "The three of them lived happily ever after by the sea where it and the girl fell in love. The end."
"Time for bed," you stood up and kissed her forehead "Night night, sweetheart."
"Goodnight, jellyfish," a nickname Arthur had given her, you noticed him lightly wincing when Meribella hugged him but he still managed to smile and gently kiss her hair.
You ran Arthur a bath and he sunk into the hot water with a satisfied groan. "You've got to be more careful..." you warned and hugged him from behind. "Or I'll find Bruce Wayne and kick his ass myself for getting you into this state. I don't care if you got him on board with my research all those years ago- I don't want you getting hurt."
"Just a few bruises, nothing major," he kissed your wedding band and engagement ring "My pearl." He caressed your hands, his own freckled with water droplets.
"You're getting me wet," you pulled back your hands and moved to sit on the lip of the bathtub.
"You've never complained about that before," Arthur winked and you flicked water at him.
A peaceful silence filled the bathroom before you disturbed it "We're going to have to change the end of our story..." you trailed off and Arthur raised a brow. "The four of them lived happily ever after by the sea where it and the girl fell in love." Arthur's eyes softened and his lips parted with surprise, a drop of water falling off the end of his nose "And it's never the end. The story never ends, it just gets better."
Arthur extended his arms and pulled you into the bath close to him, you screamed while he peppered your face with kisses, moaning about your clothes getting wet. "We're pregnant? Again?" He asked in the quietest of voices. You nodded with a large grin and Arthur wrapped his arms around you, passionately kissing you "We're gonna need another nickname," he pressed his hand to your stomach "How about...squid?"
You agreed with a smile and sat down on top of him in the bath, your back pressed against his front as the two of you looked out over the beach and then to the deep blue sea beyond that...

When it rains it pours.
Summary: A rainy night in a hotel room and a late night phone call from Bruce makes you realise how vulnerable he truly is.
Warnings: None!

You preferred your own bed, but it was only for three nights.
You knew your own like the back of your hand; what position was most comfortable, judging rolls so you didn't roll over into Bruce's dip that he had created on his own side, when to roll on purpose to softly crash into Bruce who would wrap an arm around you and hum your favourite tune until you fell asleep.
But you were stuck on a short business trip and didn't have your own bed or Bruce by your side in the giant hotel bed. Exhaustion from meetings all day is what lulled you to sleep.
You sleepily groaned hearing your mobile ringing and turned over to the other side and squinted your eyes at the clock before picking up the mobile "Hello?" You groggily answered and rolled back on to your back and let your head sink into the pillow, your eyes shutting over again.
"Hey, sorry did I wake you?"
"Bruce, it's three in the morning...of course you woke me up." You sighed "Is something wrong? Has anything happened?"
"No, no, nothing's wrong," Bruce assured "I just wanted to hear your voice and I forgot the time difference, that's all."
Even in your tried state, you still managed to chuckle "Bruce...I'm in Metropolis, there is no time difference between here and Gotham city. You know that."
Bruce nervously laughed on the other end of the phone, you could almost picture him scratching the back of his neck. "Okay so I can't sleep..." he finally admitted "And I miss you. It's not the same sleeping in a bed without you beside me."
You sleepily smiled "I know, I feel the same. This bed feels huge!"
"I can't believe you're there for another two nights..." he complained "Metropolis is garbage, Gotham is the best."
You smirked and rubbed your eyes "Yeah, well, you're biased. Metropolis isn't that bad. Are you worried Superman is going to sweep me off my feet?"
He scoffed at your comment, even if it was a joke, it was ludicrous "No! He has nothing on me! God, I wish you weren't so far away..."
Now you were the one scoffing "I'm only a thirty minute flight away or two and a half hours in a car. I'm not on the other side of the planet despite you thinking that I am."
"Metropolis is like another planet compared to Gotham. Everything you love is here."
You longingly sighed "Mmm those little raspberry cookies from the bakery on the corner...Oh! Those chocolates they make at Honey Confections and the filling is infused with earl grey tea. There's also that amazing sushi platter at-"
"I was actually talking about me..." he deadpanned "You know your ridiculously handsome, sexy, talented, intelligent boyfriend."
"I'm sorry, who is this? You don't sound like Superman," You jokingly teased and Bruce groaned "I'm kidding! I'm kidding! Plus I was gonna mention you after the sushi platter..." you teased him again "I'm starving now." You opened your eyes, a dark blueish grey hue filling the room from the lights of the city. It was lightly raining. You could hear thunder in the distance and all of a sudden rain began battering the window as the storm rolled in "It's raining here..."
"It's raining in Gotham too," Bruce replied "Pouring in fact."
Your mind drifted off for a moment. Bruce was almost like that. You saw him at his best, and you saw him at his worst, and you saw him when he was vulnerable. When he was around you and was happy, he didn't just giggle, oh no, he laughed. He laughed so much tears came rolling down his cheeks and he couldn't move as he clutched onto his stomach. You had never seen him like that outside the confides of the house you both shared.
When he was having a bad day, when at he was at his lowest and most vulnerable, you were there to comfort him. You were there comforting him in bed when he was so broken he could barely climb in he was crying so much. You were there to wipe away his tears and hold him tight. Many people never got to see those sides of him.
"Have you fallen asleep?"
Your eyes snapped open and you jolted slightly "No, no, I was just thinking. I'm still here." You let out a deep sigh "But I really should be getting some sleep. I have a meeting at ten in morning."
"If you came home and made up an excuse we could be cuddling in bed at ten..." you laughed and said that was a good attempt at trying to coax you home. "I should have guessed that wouldn't have worked...I just really miss you."
"Well if you miss me so much you would have flown down," you laughed before it gently fizzled out when a blot of lightning lit up your room followed by a rumble of thunder "I miss you too, Bruce. I love you."
"I love you too," you squinted your eyes again when you noticed a yellowish tone light up your room. You turned to the door and widely smiled "And yes, I do miss you so much that I'll fly down to goddamn Metropolis- of all places- just to be with you."
"Bruce!" You jumped of bed, tiredness suddenly disappearing, and engulfed him in a hug. He was soaking wet.
"Got caught in the rain," he placed down his bag and peeled off his wet jacket, ruffling a hand through his hair "But I picked you up these," he handed you over a grey box that had a light blue ribbon wrapped around it. You already knew what it was. Raspberry cookies.
You placed down the box with a growing smile "I'm the luckiest girl in the world," you cupped his cold cheek and placed a kiss to his lips "Thank you."
Bruce kissed you back before scooping you up in his arms. You let out a surprised squeal "And you thought Superman would sweep you off your feet." He winked with a boyish smirk on his face.
"Super who-what? I don't know them..." you joked as Bruce carried you back to bed. You settled back down and Bruce climbed in beside you. You rolled over and purposely crashed into Bruce who wrapped an arm around you and began hum your favourite tune.
You began to fall asleep again only this time with a smile on your face. This was the Bruce you got to see. You were the only one he would allow to see that vulnerable side of him. Because when Bruce let down his guard and showed you the true extent of his emotions, it never just rained...it poured.

Hello!
Okay so this is my DC based fanfiction blog. I've wrote fanfiction for other fandoms in the past but I've been working on some DC stuff, mainly DCEU stuff. I was really inspired after Justice Leauge to pursure writing for the fandom.
Anyway, I have a few completed drabbles and I'm working on a series that should (hopefully) be posted soon but for now it will be mainly one-shots.
I hope you all enjoy what I've been writing! 😁❤️
