My heart sank further into my chest when I saw the photos you shared of you with another, and I chastised myself for feeling so distraught as if I didn't see this coming. You were never mine, although you pretended I was yours, and because of that you shouldn't have to owe me anything. Humans are human after all. However, when I think of how you kissed me in front of our friends or how you held my hand in public, I can't help but think that maybe you should've owed me something more than this. Do you even know what you did because it seemed like such a cruel way to find out we couldn't be, such a harsh wake up call at 7am when I went online to start my day. Surely it was unintentional, a mistake, but something tells me you meant it to hurt this way because it was too cruel to be accidental. We were never official so you're free to love whoever, no explanations needed, but do you realize how sick to my stomach your roller coaster ride made me feel? How utterly torn I was to be a pawn in the childish game of 'who do you love?' How flustered I am to know I don't even have the right to be upset when we were nothing, as if I should've known all along that humans will human.

Be A Woman You were taught not that breaking down was weak,    Just that it was weak if you did so. You were taught to admire and look up to strong, independent women,   Yet scolded and labeled ‘rebellious’ and ‘irrational’ for taking a stand for your own independence. You were taught all the dangers and horrors of the world outside,   and later dismissed for having anxiety of the outside world. You were taught to follow your dreams, then judged when your dreams didn’t involve an admirable income.   You were taught to lace up your big girl boots and flash a grownup smile, to never act out even when everyone else did, to never argue back even when your opponents weren’t making sense, to stay quiet but not too quiet. Craving independence at age 20 was considered an act of rebellion, an irrational and childish thought meant to spite your family, not a way of moving forward with the rest of the world. You were called a diva for speaking your mind. Your social life was a scandal. You were expected to be the bigger person yet acknowledged as a child. Grow out of their dollhouse because you are not a little girl with curfews and silly rules, you are not a scandal, you are not a drama queen. You are a woman, and it’s time to start acting like one.
