i’ve been toying around with the idea of POSSIBLY writing an au fanfic where miles was the first spider-man & have multiple books on ao3 around that idea.

i hate when i’m reading fanfics and its obvious they only thing the writers knows about the character is basic information or tumblr headcanons. especially when it’s a character i really like. (for example peter parker & miles morales)

i seen this twitter post about the visual color and tone differences between gwen’s earth & miles’ earth. it’s actually neat because when the two of them are together on miles’ earth when gwen comes to visit him the colors blend together to make a mix of the colors on gwen’s earth & miles’ earth and thats so cool to me.

this scene is so great to me, because we the difference in personalities between the two miles. our miles tries to appeal to the other miles by bringing up that he has to save his dad, he figured the other one would care since he lost his jeff. our miles is desperate to get back to his world, he HAS save his father. he’s pleading with the other miles. miles g however doesn’t care. he’s nonchalant and calm about the whole thing, he’s already lost his jeff. it’s not like this other jeff is his. i love how when our miles realizes that miles g isn’t helping me he comes calm just like the other miles, not only that but he’s determined. the shot of him charging his venom blast while staring at miles g? perfection. can’t wait till the next movie to get the call back of “don’t watch the mouth, watch the hands”.

that boy was eating struggle meal after struggle meal. probably had to wear hand me downs and his uncles old clothes and shit.

I honestly don’t like interpretations of Peter being flippant with money, that man was raised paycheck to paycheck eating hot dog sandwiches and knowing not to ask for too much at the store or on christmas, how the hell did he not grow up to be cheap lmao

i made a post like this about miles in the past but this time it’s about peter. i noticed when peter first starts out as spider-man his lens are narrowed and small. maybe show how his view and the world is shallow. he’s an angry teenager when he first starts out as spider-man. he doesn’t have any friends nor wanted any. he hated everyone because he felt they hated him. he didn’t fit in. when he got his powers he finally felt like he would be able to fit in some way. so he used his powers for personal, selfish shallow reasons. i think his lens reflects that. he isn’t necessarily the selfless friendly neighborhood spider-man yet. as jonah likes to say he’s a “menace” and the eyes reflect that look.

soon peter goes to college and while he there his worldviews start to change. he isn’t angry at the world as he once was when he started out as spider-man. he has a genuine friend group, people who care about him. he didn’t have this before. he’s becoming more of a hero and his views aren’t as shallow as before. his lens aren’t as narrowed as before but they are still small.

peter graduates/drops out (depending on the writer) off college. gwen who was essentially his first love and someone he seen himself spending the rest of his life with + her father are dead. his world was shattered by this. the person who killed her? his own best friends father. this time period gets darker for spider-man. he barely has time for peter parker or his loved ones, he’s spider-manning a lot more. why not a new suit to reflect the times he’s going through? the symbiote. a sleek dark more intimidating suit.

peter ends up getting rid of the symbiote suit and wears a cloth version of the black suit for awhile. he did have a back up suit that was just simply a halloween suit. during this period he’s married to mary jane! they’re more or less happily married even though they have their ups and downs. when mary jane has a new costume made for him the red and blue returns. the eyes are bigger than ever & even the underarm webbing is back. it’s a return to something classic but familiar. peter is content with his life as peter parker & spider-man.

unfortunately in the sidebook peter parker: spectacular spider-man things aren’t as positive like the main amazing spider-man book. the stories are more dark and mature. mary jane has a smoking problem after feeling stressed due to peter’s double life & her kidnapping that happened. to make matters worse harry is the green goblin and he likes to play mental and physical warfare with peter. we have stories like vermin’s past and his abuse. to match this darker tone peter’s suit is usually a more muted red & blue. he still has the large lens but the black outline is more prominent.

miles morales has really been getting all the good things lately. his new run is great and both his movies are the best spider-man movies to ever come out.

as a true tumblr blog i have returned after a 6 month hiatus

reminder that miles morales is spider-man and he isn’t just a black peter parker. he has his own character beats and storylines. he has friends and a support system as spider-man that peter never had in his early years. he has to deal with a family member who is a criminal that he is constantly at odds with but still wanna see him do better. yeah he might fight some of the same villains peter does but that doesn’t make him a copy & paste of peter.

if you believe that i don’t think you paid attention to the various miles morales series because they are not the same behind the mantle and them both sharing some sort of guilt the role gave them. peter’s guilt is him having the power to stop the robber but didn’t which ended up costing uncle ben his life. miles guilt is that he felt like he could have done something to help his universe peter and assist him during his final fight with their universe goblin.

yes he is a POC spider-man so of course black people are gonna be fans because we get another popular poc in a culture that is catered to straight white cis males. however that is not the only reason why he is liked. he is a good character and if he wasn’t he would be a character lost in lore. instead we’ve seen the mcu take aspects from miles and give them to mcu peter, he’s appeared in multiple mobile games and has his own tie in game, he’s been in multiple cartoons, and even has his own movies.

in conclusion to this long ass post if you don’t like miles because he is a “black” peter parker you have missed the entire point of his character and i doubt that you’ve actually paid attention to his comics.
