Speed
Another 90s action classic.
Great era of movies when everything was done practically before CGI took over.

I loved the movie Sidekicks (1992) as a kid. Watching it now, parts of it are like satirical commentary of the movies from the very decade it was made in.
Then again, it was made for kids. Funny to have an adult perspective on a movie where I was originally the target demographic.
It's like the whole movie is a training montage.
Wait a second WAIT A SECOND...
Chuck disappears at the end. Does that mean him joining the team was just another fantasy that Barry conjured to get through the tournament?! 🤯

I went to the library today thinking it would be a quiet, inspiring place to get some writing done without the distractions of being at home.
There's more noise and commotion there than I expected. People jamming on headphones, watching movies, slamming buttons on an Xbox handheld, covering a desk with multiple devices all on at once...
Libraries aren't what they used to be. They've become public mass charging stations, instead of a place to learn and work.
Sure, you could argue the same about me—maybe these people were also looking to get out of the house just like I was. Can I say my pursuit was more noble than theirs?
Yes. Yes, I will say that.
I'll hop around other libraries.
Or try taking my laptop to a dive bar and see how that works out.

Fantastic Four: First Steps
Good movie.
Felt like they were taking a lot of care and time to distinguish this from the prior Fantastic Four movies by other studios.
Interesting how we have this movie and the new Superman going with that retro-futuristic vibe; really changes the setting so that you don't immediately think this is "just like our world", so it allows for a deeper suspension of disbelief.
I liked the focus on family and motherhood/parenthood.
Avengers: Infinity War had such a larger ramp-up than the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which feels like it's just happening instead of something we've been building up to. So we'll have to wait and see how that turns out...

Started with a new budgeting app. It simultaneously makes me feel smarter and dumber about money.

We have different gifts
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.
If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;
if it is serving, then serve;
if it is teaching, then teach;
if it is to encourage, then give encouragement;
if it is giving, then give generously;
if it is to lead, do it diligently;
if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

There's a reason some men go quiet
"There's a reason some men go quiet. They've seen too much, felt too deeply, given too many chances that led to disappointment. So they stop talking about their pain. They just carry it. Not because they want to suffer in silence, but because they no longer believe anyone truly listens. They show up every day with a calm face, but inside there's a storm they've learned to navigate alone. They become their own therapist, their own motivator, their own protector. They don't lash out. They don't seek revenge. They just distance themselves and focus on peace. They don't fear being alone. They fear wasting time on people who pretend to care. And that silence? It's not weakness. It's power. It's restraint. It's growth. So if you know a man like that, don't assume he's cold or heartless. He's been through battles you'll never see. He's just learned the hard way that sometimes the strongest thing you can do is walk away and heal in peace."
