Today I met with the gallery owner of Corinto Gallery to donate some art work for this happening tomorrow night! @corintogallery is running an art auction to fundraise money for Puerto Rico 🇵🇷Hurricane Relief. They’re giving the art money to a non-profit, @friendsofpuertorico who have visually shown how and what they’re doing to help Puerto Ricans in crisis. Earlier this week I was part of the #NowBeHere project by @kim_schoenstadt The first Photo is by Kim Johnson, courtesy of Kim Schoenstadt, Linn Meyers and National Museum of Women in the Arts. @womeninthearts The second photo is by, my lovely guest @essencesofjasmine Then the rest of the photos are mine. This experience was so awesome! It was empowering to see representation of female artists in the DMV area. It’s healthy for artists to be aware of the community their in. DC and the DMV often doesn’t feel like such a hotspot for thriving artists. It’s especially hard for emerging artists to gain any traction or find resources here compared to other bigger and smaller cities that support the arts. Still, DC/the DMV has its places and moments. It was cool seeing how many non-profits and art centers present at this event and wanting to help lady artists. I really appreciate this project! This page is so metaphorically relatable to dealing with today's hardships being a young person under this struggling economy and "presidency". We all want to make change but at times it's overwhelming to take in all of what's going on and even to just protect yourself from daily struggles. Of course, that's not exactly what I was thinking about when I created Disappearing Fire, but I do feel like a lot of these page posts are a form of escapism for the reader from today's messy news. Most of my work is based on escapism from reality, but I'm currently wondering how I would make confrontational pieces.
