HOW FAR WE'VE CLIMBED. "It's been a rough week." That's what people have been saying to be. But what some of them don't notice is how often they say "it's been rough week". The truth is it's been a rough millennium. And for most minorities in this country it's been a rough existence, period. Some have told me, as they have told many minorities, to just "get over it" and not to dwell on the past. But I've of the opinion that the past deserves our respect. Sometimes we have to look back to see how far we've come or look down to see how far we've climbed. What patterns are repeating? How can we make our next step even more significant than the last? We know what's wrong. What are we doing to fix it? We don't al have to be the band leader. Some of us beat the drum, others dance, some of us play the melody, but the important thing is that we find a way to harmonize. This is our generations civil rights movement. A BETTER WORLD starts with you. I've started to notice something. We watch the news and we think "the world is going to hell, people are crazy", but we contribute. We complain without taking action, we point out the negative and ignore the positive, we hate our own selves, we cut people off and think only of ourselves, we judge others for the way they choose to look, think, and feel before even attempting to understand or accept them. We are part of the problem. Peace is possible but we ALL have to change. Calling people crazy is just another level of division. Time to unite, even if it's hard. Sure, sometimes it's smarter to ignore, but how smart is it if the problem persists? Janne @jannerobinson - poet, writer, lover, woman of the world. from British Columbia, Canada. Janne had this to share: "We are all born as babies knowing we are worthy and deserving of love. At some point in our lives we are bound to get dropped on our heart's heads and forget this or believe we need to do something to be deserving of love. We are deserving of love without doing anything. It's an act of being, not doing. I was dropped on my heart's head by my father. He didn't choose to be a part of my life and I've struggled to receive love from men for the last twenty six years. As a child I justified the lack of existence of my father as the belief that I wasn't worthy of love. I've taken self growth courses and worked like hell to yank this belief from the earth and throw it into the heavens and it still pops up from time to time. I have a series of poems where I script myself calling the universe on the telephone and asking her to send me a man, for I am ready to be loved. I wasn't listening to my birthright for love, and the universe was tired of my ringing so three weeks she sent me a man named Worthy. I can see her in the heavens above, sighing, asking "How can I get her attention?" Simple really, she just sent me a man who is literally the affirmation I've been repeating for five years straight. I'm listening."
