I’m cooking up a little mermaid au rn (snippet below)

Mermaid. Noun. mer·​maid ˈmɜː.meɪd: an aquatic creature with the top half of a woman and the bottom half of a fresh or saltwater creature. The term can also refer to any merfolk, as they seem to use a different gender system. Sometimes shortened to mer.

Studies of merfolk are ongoing, as they are as vast and mysterious as the ocean itself. Some groups of merfolk are aggressive towards humans, due to them being hunted in the past during the Siren Scare. Such groups are identified and are tracked to limit their interactions with humans. Most groups of mermaids are peaceful and will go on their way should they run into humans.

Price sighed and shoved the textbook aside. “Piece of shit. Just the same bullshit every year, formatted differently. Never anything new.”

He sighed, his eyes going back to the biggest screen in the room. His eyes tracked the strange group of mers as they swam. The team had been alerted of the suspicious activity by a concerned fishing crew, as they were moving…“aggressively” were their words. While he didn’t see any real aggression in the video clips he’d gotten, Price could tell that something wasn’t right. The group was too tightly packed, too tense, too…focused. Like they were on a mission of sorts. But why were they doing this, what mission were they on?

Price grumbled, pulling the textbook back only to throw it across the room at the trash bin. “Useless!”

With a huff and a few muttered curses, he stood and left the room, not bothering to properly dispose of the textbook. The pages of the book fluttered as the slammed door blew them back, before they settled on the start of a different chapter.

Siren. Noun. si·​ren ˈsaɪə.rən: A subgroup of mermaid capable of human speech that can use it to lure humans and creatures to their deaths. Where they originated from is unknown. It is believed that sirens were hunted to extinction during the Siren Scare, though it is not confirmed. If, by chance, you find yourself facing down a siren, cover your ears, turn away, and pray. Your survival is not guaranteed.

Shower thought bc I didn’t put on music and my mind wandered and wanted music

Silly 141 night out where they enter a random trivia night where the theme is musicals (movie and theater). They have a five way tie and the bar’s closing so they pull up the final prompt: sing a song that appeared in one of the Trolls movies, trilogy only.

Price is able to pull off Can’t Stop the Feeling because that song was EVERYWHERE and he had to look it up once to get to the ending to get it out of his head. He’s out after.

Ghost is able to remember True Colors because he half watched it with Soap once and actually knows the song. He’s out after because he pretty much slept through the rest of the movie.

It’s between Soap and Gaz for a while because they’re the fun uncle/cousin that’ll watch kids movies or take kids to the theater. Gaz ends up winning bc he started moving towards the second movie instead of the first and third and Soap only saw it once compared to his five watch throughs (you can’t convince me that he doesn’t love Mary J. Blige sorry).

I just love writing a character who forgets his own lore until something forces him to remember. It’s not like he’s consciously keeping secrets it just never came up in conversation and he felt weird inputting it and forgot to tell you.

i see a lot about ghost having lots of kids (or just one) and being a better father than his own.

but tbh? i headcanon him with getting a vasectomy, or being infertile.

don’t get me wrong, he’d be an amazing father, but rather than making one himself, i think he has that big of a heart to adopt several kids. considering how some foster situations are nowadays.

maybe he’d be a foster parent for the first bit of his life, when he wants to tip toe in the waters of fatherhood. but eventually after finding children so many homes, i think he’d fall in love with an infant he fostered, and adopt them himself.

i think he’d fear passing his father’s bloodline, and being afraid to become like his father himself, but fostering taught him that he’s a separate person and he didn’t inherit his father’s traits.

and he definitely treats his new little one like royalty. personally, i think he’d stick with one, but maybe if he finds the right time or yearns for such, he’d adopt another (or perhaps another).

either way, he’d be a bomb ass dad, but to me adoption is the way he’d go.

Anytime Soap says anything involving his sexual encounters with Ghost, Gaz screams until he shuts up. Soap only tries to talk about those things in certain settings, like in the mess, rec, gym— So it’s not uncommon to hear Gaz just start screaming for no apparent reason. The first time he did it he scared Soap. And everyone else in the gym. He was called into Price’s office not long after and wasn’t held long after he explained why he screamed like that. Price doesn’t blame him.

Nobody asked yet I think 🤭 She got it after a SAS op in Turkey with Soap (fresh out of training, Soap had hair!!) that went terribly wrong and they ended in a turkish prison, separate wings for men and women.

Soap had fucked up his knee and was in the infirmary, she staged a prison riot among the women by saying that the food tasted like pork. Word got to the male wing, hell broke loose, she broke into the infirmary and they stole a truck (she ended up crashing it lol)

Back at base their instructor was laughing his ass off while Soap embellished the tale and hence, 'Riot'

Also... she is a riot 🤭

Oh I love that! And I’d love to tell you about the incident! A little bit of backstory’s needed for this to make sense.

So Hades “Riot” Diaz (not his birth name, he changed it at 18 to honor his late mother and adopted dads) was born a quadruplet and he and his siblings got split up after their mom passed and their bio father was arrested. After a failed adoption, he was adopted by Noah (Papá) and Roger (Raj or Dad) Diaz, who are ex-military. He ended up looking for his siblings and found a half-brother and an uncle that Raj served with and got in contact, where they talked a little but didn’t really connect due to an 18 year age difference. So Hades kinda puts him out of his mind for the time being, especially when his brother starts pulling away.

Onto the incident!

Hades grows into a bit of a party animal and gets invited to most mid level parties that his classmates host. Eventually, at a high school party, he drinks and he has a few too many. The videos of different partygoers doing drunk karaoke go around and Hades gets auto tagged in one. His dads find out and scold him for it but never let him live it down, to the point the whole extended family knew.

Fast forward to him being in basic and his drill sergeant looks vaguely familiar, and his drill sergeant keeps looking at him too. Just his luck that, when they reach graduation, his half-brother is there with his drill sergeant, who he’s married to. His half-brother, just a bit too loud mentions how much he’s grown since the drunk karaoke video and ten minutes later, his clip is getting airdropped to everyone in the area.

They almost called him Karaoke, but shortened that sounded like “Carrie” and they already gave the name to the guy who tripped and busted his head during the first week. They settled on Riot because he was singing Hollywood Undead’s song Riot and figured that if they gave him the name, he’d get asked where his callsign came from and he’d have to relive the moment. He does. Every time.

The song is still in his playlist, though.
