There’s always the “ suck it up “ option. Life’s full of shit we don’t ask for; this is one of the most mild things that could possibly happen. Nothing wrong with just voicing your opinion on the situation, but this is phrased like the person is complaining and they do whenever someone does it. This is Tumblr, probably likely that I’m correct on that…. isn’t the internet just a swell place?

I’ve always thought there’s a line between constructive criticism and something that’s actually helpful. It depends on how it’s phrased that determines how someone’s likely to take it. Of course, even if it is phrased rudely, people like to use that as an excuse to not listen to the criticism they give. People are so prone to subjectively bad comments and laziness that they’d rather use the person’s wording as a scapegoat to ignore what they have to say ( even if they didn’t intentionally try to sound rude ) and not take it into consideration. 

People also love to take in every compliment they get and disregard the rest. Confirmation bias at its finest.

We were always taught “ Treat others the way you want to be treated “ when we were much younger, but, as time goes on, we seem to forget that kindness can truly change something. I know someone will see this and think “ Well, if they’re treating me poorly, then I should treat them poorly as well! “ Logically, that’s not going to solve anything, especially considering this is a virtual world where anonymity has stripped us so much that we’ve basically turned into two dogs barking at one another on opposite sides of a fence. In real life, maybe, but on the internet, new identities and the idea of hiding behind the wall of anonymity really give people the courage to do this type of shit.

What you can do is respond to these types of comments with criticism with ironic/surreal kindness. Like “ I didn’t exactly find that to be super helpful, but thank you for trying. “ or “ Thanks for trying to help out, can you be a little bit more specific and phrase it nicely? “, for instance. You will then proceed to make the person feel like an asshole.*

Of course, this probably isn’t going to go to anyone of importance, and if it does, it’ll probably just be what I was warning about in this post. Fun. Ah well, internet’s gonna internet, y’all. Nowadays, it’s not about explaining to people what you want them to hear, it’s about telling them what they want you to say. Creators feel like this and their audience becomes the same way: delusional and deflective. These people don’t want to be challenged anymore; they just wanna get doped up on some polished, sparkly, inoffensive content.

TL;DR: People need to chill and stop falling victim to confirmation bias.

The fuck? Are with these people on Tumblr. No one has an obligation to take unsolicited "criticism". It's damn annoying when I'm drawing and suddenly some random person behind me points out what I'm doing wrong when I don't ask for it. It's even more annoying when they don't know shit about drawing. I often ask for critique from my fellow artist friends but randos that come and and like to pretend they're "helping" are on some high horse. I definitely feel empathy for you. :/
