APPARENTLY I’M NOT ALLOWED TO POST TODAY
I have tried for two hours to get my 1/2 wizard post to post right. and I’m so tired from being awake for 36 hours that I’m giving up on it, taking a shower and going to bed.
I will try tomorrow but I’m at a point where I might break down and cry.
So pissed off at the tumblr app for android right now.

So every day I’m going to throw 4 songs in for each comic issue review. Normally I can read an issue in about 2-4 songs. Double issues may get 6-8.
Not every issue will have songs that really match, some will or some will feature a song that reminds me of a character; but most of the songs will be from the time the issue was published because they remind me of going into the comic store to pick up the issue or reading the issue in the car on the way home.

Day 1: Fitness and Cosplay Diary.
[ Also tune this post out,  comic review only followers! Sometimes these diaries are coming into play. They say to always make diaries on how food makes you feel, fitness makes you feel, whatever makes you feel so here we go. ]
So I sucked at trying to work out today. Barely got through 30 minutes. But 30 minutes is progress from zero.
I also kind of failed at eating right, mostly because I didn’t have a lot of money to meal prep this week. But I have my soups and my leftovers so I think I’ll be fine and work on meal prep next week.
Today is fine to sort of suck, right?
In terms of this blog,
I still need to post my youtube list. I still need to clean and get ready for tomorrow. And finish up a couple of reviews in queue.
BUT the first review is down below, and I did at least try to work out so that’s something.
In terms of cosplay, I have the shooters basically done. I need to size them and work on cutting out holes for the buttons and screen and I need to make a thing to mold the buttons.
Pictures soon! I feel like I’m not a focus as I wanted to be for this, as motivated but I’m just tired. This week took a lot out of me. Not only my birthday but just the news. Social Media. bleurgh.
But today is only day 1. And as long as we make it to day 2, then we’re doing good.
Right?

Day 1: What If (vol 2) #105: Spider-Girl
AKA:
What If... Spider-Man had a daughter or Stan Lee Presents Legacy in Black and White
Tumblr media
Date: What If #105 was published Feb 1998/ Spider-Girl #0 was Oct. 1998
Writer: Tom DeFalco
Editor: Kelly Corvese
Pencils:  Pat Olliffe, Ron Frenz, Ron Lim
Colorist: Bob Sharen, Matt Webb, Christie Scheele
Inks: Brett Breeding, Bill Sienkiewicz, Al Williamson
Letters: Jim Novak and Virtual Calligraphy (According to Marvel Unlimited)
Special Notes: Spider-Girl #0 was a reprint of What If (vol. 2) #105. This introduces Mayday Parker into the comic world and was the Girl Power bang into Marvel they didn’t really hear, didn’t quite understand but ran with it while the money was good.
Songs to read to: Tonic - Open Up Your Eyes; Smash Mouth - Why Can’t We Be Friends; Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta; Eve 6 - Inside Out
[ Link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2IoGDgOi4Uy2EsmyOMzZj6 ]
So let’s start with the basics. Here’s the run down.
We start off at a Midtown Basketball game. May is “slamming loose and feeling heat” and just shatters a backboard.
Everyone is going crazy about it ... except for Mary Jane and Peter Parker. They wonder if May is developing Spider-powers while walking home; just as May, who after making a hard choice to spend time with her “nerdier” friends than hang out with cool people like Brad [spoiler: we’re gonna REALLY hate brad at the end of this so yay May for being smart], May gets the uncanny sense she needs to duck and comes face to face with the GREEN GOBLIN.
The goblin doesn’t want to hurt anyone but just wants May to bring a message to her father. May clearly rushes home and tells her parents everything, completely freaked out because she has no clue why the Green Goblin would need to talk Peter Parker. She leaves the living room to call her friends to make sure they were okay when she hears her parents call Foggy Nelson and find out her Aunt Lizzie, aka Liz Allan-Osborn is not doing that well and clearly Normie Osborn isn’t taking it well.
She hears her mother and father start talking about the big Goblin Spider family feud and realizes just who confronted her...and who her father really is!
We then see Normie Osborn, Harry’s son, do his fantastic dramatic speech to himself while shirtless, as one does. May confront her mother about it, wanting to just charge right in and help with whatever is going on. MJ tells her everything, including how her father lost his leg in the final battle with Norman Osborn. May notices how there are two suits and is told it was her uncle Ben’s (Ben Reilly) and we cut to Peter meeting Normie at the infamous bridge, Normie is pretty keen on the fact he wanted his Uncle Pete in his spandex playsuit and really won’t settle for less. He picks Peter up and the gun Peter stashed in his pocket starts to fall out...Mary Jane comes in to distract Normie a bit, just long enough for him to pick up the gun, crush it, and grab Auntie M. This gives Mayday just long enough to make a grand entrance “ You want a spider-person Normie? Face it, tiger...you just hit the jackpot!”“ as she kicks him square in the face.
Peter and MJ are pretty scared because their daughter is kind of just going all chips in with no training.
But she’s handling her own, keeping Normie talking while we get down to his real issue -- his mother is dying just like the rest of his family so someone needs to pay. As May had been keeping mental notes about what Normie was pulling out and using, she saw a way she could subdue him. And does so! ...and he flys right into traffic, May saves him, and then punches him in the face.. and he gets arrested.
We last see Peter, May, and MJ burning what appears to be Ben’s suit, with the last panel being the desk in May’s room with what looks like drawings for a new suit.
What I loved: Seeing May not look girly or oversexualized...we first see her in her basketball uniform and short hair.
I love how layered I’ve always found this issue to be, everything does seem a bit dark and dreary, and it lightens up in the series quite a bit but -- Normie is clearly breaking from his mother’s illness, he clearly can remember his grandfather’s death as he would have been around 7 at the time, and it shows. Like this is planned, sure, he is an Osborn so of course, he’d have a flair for the dramatic -- but he clearly is going by his breaking heart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
May is so sassy to her mother and this is still the most realistic argument I’ve seen in comics between a mother and daughter. (or I might just have been a melodramatic teen too?)
Tumblr media
Also, we need to talk about Peter.
 1. only being called Dr. like in this issue.
2. putting a gun like that in his front jean pocket...like oh no,  baby, what are you doing? YOU WORK IN A POLICE DEPARTMENT. My dad was a SAC in state law enforcement, I know those lab guys had to take some classes. PETER. WHY?
Tumblr media
  3. Peter is way too satisfied with May throwing Normie into traffic like that. Again, what are you doing?
What you can learn from the issue:
Sometimes being a badass comes from having spider-powered genetics.
Oh and, with great power there must also come great responsibility [ Which is not said once in this issue. Thank goodness!]
Head Cannon Accepted:
Normie, Normie, Normie. I think :
1. He only ever went out because Liz was terminal and it broke him...I think he kind of was looking to die, and since he couldn’t do it himself, he decided to go out like his father and grandfather before him.
2. I think Normie totally did his speech in front of a mirror, probably listening to the Lion King soundtrack. I mean it was already by candlelight...you can’t see the be prepared song just popping up while he’s being all serious in front of the mirror?
3. Normie is color blind. In this issue, he sings that Spider-Girl has brown eyes as he is being driven away by the police, but later on in the comics, they become a mostly blue but sometimes green color -- to smooth this out I decided a while ago that Normie is just color blind and blue and green are kind of just shades of brown to him. Which makes his Green Goblin kind of funny to me for even more reasons.
Tumblr media
Things that are still funny after 20 years:
I love Oliffe and Frenz to pieces but this reoccurring eyeball issue kills me every time. I think I noticed it when I was about 14 and did not let this go...can't stop, won’t stop.
Tumblr media
Also, I need to do more ab workouts because I STILL want this outfit and it’s come back in style. I must wear it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Question for the class:
If you get a chance to pick this issue up, either in the digests, the big new anthology book that came out in August or on Marvel Unlimited: What did you love about this series?
Do you see why this struck the cord it did and got asked to be turned into a series?
Why or Why not?
Leave me a line at makememayday.tumblr.com/ask
and keep doing whatever it is you want to do today. It’s a spider-girl world!

Day 0: The Game Plan
I know I gave the overview for what this page is for, but I don’t think I’ve hammered out the details for the “Make ME Mayday” challenge. Since Friday will be my 28th birthday...
Tumblr media
I know. I’m old.
Game Plan:
The game plan is for 151 days:
I will follow:
Tumblr media
-          I will follow a strict diet I have had approved for me.
I have some severe food allergies and I would like to lose 2lb per week, so I worked out a diet I think will be easy to stick to via meal prepping and affordability.
Since both of my parents have suffered from food-based disorders, I don’t want to openly discuss calorie goals. You do what you need. I’m not here to tell you what is good or what is bad. [though spoiler: calories are good and you eat what you need and want, damn it. ]
Tumblr media
-          A two-day workout schedule not unlike my old basketball and dance practice before my knee surgery. So, no, this is not overkill for me.
Also no Gym. No expensive equipment. Just YouTube, internet, and determination. That’s it. Maybe a kickboxing and wall climbing class or two though.
I’ve already posted the youtube playlist. It’ll change based on needs, but it’s not gonna be hard, or overkill and except maybe talking about has the video kicked my ass -- we won’t be obsessing over it, okay?
Tumblr media
-          Finishing my modeling and printing and molding of my face shell, my lenses, and my web shooter idea (which has it’s own post because it’s a neat idea. Go look at it!)
I already have the bare bones for these, but I need to do some more 3D modeling to really make them the best Spider-girl lenses or truly remarkable web shooters they can be.
This will take more work than really needed, but being able to be my childhood hero for Marvel’s 80th anniversary to me means being accurate as possible and making ridiculous things only myself (and whoever reads this) will know.
Post about cosplay updates might have weird things like “what features could May use on her web shooter burner phone?” or “what would her ringtone be?” – and yes this is weird. But it’s also the weird cosplay level I’m at.
This all requires a lot of discipline, that I really don’t have after being at work all day.
So, my goal is to read an issue of Spider-Girl per day and write up a review on why I love the issue, what I’ve taken away and how I can still learn from it today to stay on track.
If I complete my workouts and don’t wreck my diet – I won’t allow myself to post an issue review. 151 days for 151 issues, not I can’t slack or double up.
I’m also not really a writer save making training guides for a living; my brain might be all over the place so plan to get:
-          Head Cannons.
-          Tiny little fanfiction ideas.
-          Fan Casting.
-          Personal Stories of my many times reading this and other dumb slices of life anecdotes.
-          Ideas, goals and cosplay progress not related to the web shooter props (like glue swim shoe soles to a Spidey suit.)
And whatever else that I feel might relate.
I will be reading Spider-Girls and Spider-Geddon while I’m doing this so if something makes me nerd rage; there will be a nerd rage post because I can’t help it.
Hopefully, this makes sense. Hopefully, this isn’t THAT weird. But hey, even if it is, whatever.
This is for me. This is so I feel like I’m gaining my voice back. This is to keep me accountable on my journey to cross a very personal goal off my bucket list.
I hope you continue to cheer me on. <3

Day 0: The Web-shooters
Have you ever wanted a toy so badly that you decided to just make it yourself?
No? Well, that’s what I’m doing. While everyone was in love with the HUGE silly string canisters for web-shooters back in the early 00’s -- I wanted something a little better. THIS.
Tumblr media
The Cartridge phone. I thought Normie making this for May was so cool when I first read it and I wanted this to be a toy phone if they ever made Spider-girl as a cartoon or a movie [ I was a child with no concept this would be confusing. And I trusted executives did things in the best interest to the story, characters, and fans. ] So clearly this was never made into a toy, and at some point, as we all got older and go more into texting, and smartphones this was kind of phased out. But I loved it, and if I’m planning to turn myself into the best Spider-Girl cosplay that there can be, then I’ve got to make this. I am still not sure on if I want to line this up to look like a tiny little sidekick pager to allude to what it became in Spider-Island, Or if I want to go super older school and make something so early 00s phone. I also don’t know, minus it lights up, if I want it to just be a Bluetooth phone extension or an actual toy where Id then must find friends to make voicemails as beloved MC2 characters – which surprise is kind of what I’m leaning towards to make this truly the dream toy of my 11-year-old self. All I know if I do want a text noise and two ringtones at a minimum to play one buzzing if I can, but if not the noise. And something like the 90s spider-man theme in like super midi – OR hear me out. – I pull my most embarrassing ringtone from my razor. Or destroy a razor since my mom saved 4 of them and retrofit it in a web cartridge as best I can and legit just have what Normie made May. *SURPRISED GIF* *Mind Blown GIF* I wonder how hard that might be. Hm. I’ll make another post when I start the challenge next week about exactly what I have already, and what I need to work on. The ideas, etc. But clearly, I have ideas. And this is something that is happening.

Day 0: Meet the Blogger
Tumblr media
Hi,
I’m Kelly, I’m 27 according to the times I’ve been around the sun and I’m a using this as a blog to track, share and review an insane idea. Take 151 days to workout, diet, while re-reading my favorite comic and try to 3D model some web-shooters I’ve wanted as a toy since 2002.
Plan on binges of other MC2 titles, Head Cannons, Character rants, Possible fan fiction and loads of cosplay progress and stories about favorite things in my Spider-Girl trunk.
Welcome to the blog, and I hope you’ll stay and join me on my journey. <3

Day 0: Who are you and what the hell are you doing?
So... Hi.
This is probably one of the most vulnerable things I’ve done.
Making a fitness blog, comic review, possible fan canon, fan fiction, cosplay build, nerd fashion blog --- about a character only a dedicated few really know.
 Why am I doing this?
TL;DR: I’m a broken nerd who thinks using her childhood hero will motivate her to get her life back together.
Long Answer: Well after deleting my old Tumblr at the request of a very abusive ex, [ I was known as poormansbilliepiper or lifeafteru, which was a Brie Larson song. Funny how this comes full circle. ], I have been itching to make my voice heard -- only I haven’t quite figured out what my voice is after finally getting out from up under that storm.
This isn’t new, and normally when I feel lost and in need of a small quiet corner to lick my wounds, I re-read the first comic I seriously collected, Spider-Girl. It was the first time I saw a character who not only looked like me with short brown hair and blue/green eyes but also wasn’t a super girly girl. She liked sports and wasn’t afraid to jump in and do what was right.
I started reading the comic somewhere around Fall 1998; around issue #3 or so. I had just turned 8 and fell in love instantly, clearly.
I saw myself. It was me, or who I wanted to be.
This comic, this character was there whenever I needed to hide. Under the bed, because I didn’t want my father to find me when he was in one of his concussion moods.
In the corner of the comic store to not have to deal with the teenager who kept telling me how girls in comics are stupid. Especially Spider-Girl.
In my closet after crying my eyes out because my friends bullied me for a week of “coolness”; in the hospital after my knee surgery, or there when I moved away to somewhere new  -- you get it.
It was there for me from 1998 to 2010. Most of my life.
Normally I keep her close to the vest, hidden. No one will ever be able to take this character from me.
And even when I’ve tried to let people in to show them, normally no one’s cared. They don’t even try.
So she’s just my thing, but I want to be able to show her and her importance to the world. I want to show why she has saved my life and maybe she can save someone else’s.
I think using the fact her run altogether since it didn’t really have a break in between is 151 issues. The longest running female titled comic run within Marvel. 151 days for 151 issues to re-read. Re-live and re-inspire me and hopefully others. I am using this 1 issue a day as my meditation time.
And inspiring the day to workout, to get Spidey-fit for a rebuild of my classic Spider-Girl suit along with her black suit because it was always my favorite
I want to use this to push through my keto headaches so I can lose all the weight I gained while I was stressed out due to the bad relationship -- and I want to be able to process all my emotions into something better. Plus having this in a daily blog with people watching means I have to stay on track and keep on with the cosplay and my fitness because the world is watching.
Plus starting this after my 28th birthday, on the 20th anniversary year of Spider-Girl, leading up to the 80th anniversary of Marvel and ending the series about a week before the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first female titled solo movie; Captain Marvel -- This is just the perfect time.
If you are still here after reading all of this, you are amazing and drop me a line. I’d love to know you are here and ready to take this challenge with me!
