It's well known that in the best games of the Silent Hill series, the monsters and setting represent something related to the protagonist's past and personality, mainly flaws and trauma.
So I have a proposal for all you artists out there: What could a Silent Hill game look like if you were the protagonist?

Solidus Snake would be Thor, Solid Snake is Baldur, and Liquid is Vidarr. Ocelot would be Loki.

June’s coming up. In my opinion, Men’s Mental Health Month and Pride Month can and should co-exist.
First of all, queer men exist. I’m a queer man, I know other queer men, Cogito Ergo Sum.
Men’s Mental Health conversations must include queer men to be real, and Queer spaces must include masculinity as a part of the gender spectrum.
Trans men should not have to “tone down” their gender expression just to be welcome in queer spaces. Affirming your gender is not aligning with patriarchy, it’s an act of agency that trans people have fought difficult battles for.
Pride already challenges patriarchy. And patriarchy is responsible for the issues that hurt men (queer or otherwise).
Allyship will heal isolation. Cishet men struggling with mental health deserve a place in emotionally open communities, and we deserve allies whose voices already carry weight.
Also, regardless of gender, bisexual people exist. We’re not “gayer straight people” and we’re not “straighter gay people”.

When I was at Twin Cities Con in 2023, there was a photography meetup for Marvel Cosplayers (I was Scarlet Spider/Ben Riley) and there were mostly adults as Marvel characters. Then a little girl wearing a Batgirl costume wanted to get a picture with all of us. No one wanted to say, “Sorry kid, Batgirl is a DC character”, especially since that’s not even a good reason to exclude an enthusiastic participant (much less a child).
So we all just let her get some photos with the group and everyone was happy. It was awesome!

Quick thing about Ranger’s Apprentice.
In the first few chapters of the first book, we’re introduced to Jenny, who becomes the cook’s apprentice. Right off the bat, she’s described as pretty. Later on, it’s mentioned that she’s a bit chubby, but all the boys her age still have a thing for her. When she explains that she wants to be a cook, the head chef agrees with her when she says “I have the right shape for it”.
In other words, Jenny being chubby doesn’t stop her from being pretty, it doesn’t stop other people from thinking she’s pretty, and for a cook, being chubby is literally a credential in her favor.

I just noticed that whenever a bad film comes out that happens to have a female lead, even if the film is bad for other reasons (like directing, plot, etc), there’s a million video essays on “How Not to Write Female Characters” about that film.
Just worth pointing out.

Don't forget the four parts of a character:
Wound: The thing that happened in the backstory that contextualizes the character's actions.
Belief: The thing the character believes that drives the character's actions and gets both affirmed and challenged by the events of the story and the perspectives of other characters. A character’s flaws come from where their belief falls flat or when they make exceptions to their belief.
Want: The character's goal. It will either prove the belief or cure the wound. In some cases, it would do both.
Need: This is the lesson that the character learns at the end of the story. Other times, the character will face a consequence for rejecting the Need. Once the character learns what the Need is, their arc is over.
(bonus) Cycle: The way a character learns or rejects the Need could lead them to have a new Wound. This could start another arc.
