Just a quick reminder~
Not all polytheists consider themselves as pagans, and not all pagans consider themselves polytheists. The two terms aren't universally interchangeable.
(Some people use the terms interchangeably for themselves because the terms are heavily intertwined for them. This is not the case for everyone.)

there's... something in praying and slowly starting to feel like one of your hands is being held as you whisper sincere words to the world, to yourself, to the gods

This is why it's okay to reject the love and light approach of 'No one can love you/you can't love anyone until you love yourself.'
OP, I hope you don't mind me piggybacking off of what you said, here, but I'm profoundly glad you said it.
Everyone is going to have an opinion on what shape you should be in when you reach out to the gods. It's not up to other people. It's up to you.
There's always going to be someone with a more strict idea of ideal presentation. Each one will get more strict than the last. If you focus on everyone else's opinion, you'll end up not even forming your own and you'll miss out on the Gods.
If I had waited until I was grounded enough or 'clean' enough, I'd still be neither.
Glad I didn't listen to people saying we had to be grounded and stuff to reach out deities because right now i'm glad Ares and Dionysus are here somewhere...

When I see this, I always feel the nighttime sky goddesses, Artemis, Nyx, and Selene, but I also feel Zeus and Hestia.
There's a warmth in that blue, even in the snow. These nights are usually so still that the air doesn't bite you. The moon takes all that deep blue of the sky and makes me feel like the snow is just a cover for another star. Like the cover of white is reflecting back out to space and we're shining back to those same goddesses.
Then the orange represents the gifts of Zeus and Hestia. A warm place to lay a head, the promise of warm food and drink. A late night conversation had over a dining room table. A guest ambling through a hallway in search of a glass of water.
Life is moves almost imperceptibly on these nights, but the impact it leaves sticks with us so strongly.

Yes. Take this and apply it toward any part of your path. It is not a race. You're not on a deadline. You're not on a timer.
It's no less frustrating, I know. But it is okay.
Tumblr media
It's okay if it takes a little longer than you thought.

Finally. My Actual Intro Post.
Tumblr media
(Above photo: A building with stone arch columns and a stone railing. Engraved on it are the words 'AULT PARK'. Photo was taken by me, devoted to the gods.)
Dionysus, for freedom and identity.
Hermes, for words and wit.
Apollo, for music and truth.
This blog is entirely dedicated to content about Hellenic Polytheism. This is the term you'll see me use most often, but I use several different tags for my content about it.
I am 30. A Polytheistic Humanist. In love with humanity and nature. I find the art within sensual and sexual intimacy. I live for the intimacy of all of the arts. Seeking to give shelter and kind words in a way I hope will honor Zeus. In this space, you can call me Jack.
It should go without saying. Be a decent person. No sexists, transphobes, racists, ableists, homophobes, etc. This space is for honoring Gods and the people who worship them. Everyone else, either behave or get the block button.
I am still ironing out the tags I use for individual deities, but it is always safer to assume that the content I generate is not in reference to fandom material.
A little about me:
I am a bi/pan transguy. No bioessentialism. Bioessentialism is a very limited worldview and has no practical uses other than being exclusionary.
I am a writer, and a lot of my content centers around adult themes. I write about the sensual and sexual side of my practice very often, and I'm sure at some point, I will elaborate on why. This is not the sole content of my blog, but it is a common theme.
I also write a lot of general encouragement posts. I'd like to provide the content I wish I had seen back when I first began my practice.
My asks are always open. Don't worry if you have a question, but are afraid you will sound stupid or new. Everyone starts somewhere, and any conversation started in good faith will always, always be welcome.
I do not consider myself a reconstructionist. If this bothers you, you may not enjoy a lot of my content. I approach the Gods through the reference frame of my modern life. While a great deal of my practice is similar to many reconstructionists I know, I find a few key distinctions in the rigidity of practice that don't resonate as deeply with me. These differences will make themselves visible in some of my posts.
I am disabled. I don't talk about it much on here, except content related to the Gods and how that facet of my life interacts with my practice.
My posts are not limited to just Dionysus, Hermes, and Apollo. I love, respect, and worship all the Gods.
Poems Encouragement
More links to come soon! I'm still trying to organize.
I seek to post things that give people hope and resources. It’s easy to get lost in the throes of the internet and all its many opinions. I’d like to make a place where the weary can rest for a second.

🌞 The deities that I am closest with/work with most often.
This is another one that my followers already know, and anyone who can see my username can probably guess. My practice is extremely inclusive of the Greek pantheon overall, but my central connection and focus is Dionysus, with very close peripheral focus on Hermes and Apollo.
In the past, I'd say Athena was the central focus of my practice, and I owe much of my current practice to her. She guided me to a point where I could reestablish my sense of personhood and autonomy, and it was that point that Dionysus picked up. Generally, I say that Athena helped me survive, Dionysus is helping me live.
Apollo is a strong brace to my divination and discernment, and I owe how close I feel to all of the gods to him. I worship his musical and poetic aspects, and I draw so many forms of inspiration from him.
Hermes and my connection to him feels, ironically, so difficult to put into words. He inspires small feats of bravery in me, words when I don't feel like I have them, and acts of mischievous kindness. Sometimes just acts of mischief.
Dionysus is my fundamental source of passion and beauty and identity. He pushes me to stand up for myself, shows me when I deserve more, when to moderate, and when I need rest. He is radical acts of self love and radical acts of loving others. I could get very poetic about it, but I'll save it for a different post. I could go on for days about all of them.

Starting with 🙏, but if you follow me, you already know.
I worship the gods most associated with the ancient Greeks. I promise I'm not trying to be a semantics asshole. I phrase it this way because I associate some of my practice with aspects that were recorded of them that either predate or existed adjacent to the ancient Greeks. The Hellenic Pantheon. I do not include other pantheons in my practice, but I will elaborate on my stance on them in one of the later posts from the list.
The why? I'm not Greek, and as far as I know, none of my modern ancestry was Greek either. I worship them because they felt right. It's a general phrase to describe a very distinct feeling. I tried some time with other pantheons, but nothing ever hit the Goldilocks ideal for me the same way.
For me, my gods feel as gentle and ethereal as they are dangerous. As tangible as they are unreachable. As relatable as they are divine. They are as reliable as clockwork and they are as unpredictable as life.
I understand that many feel this way about their own gods, but for me, it took this particular cluster of gods to obtain that equilibrium. From mountains to oceans, forests to deserts, they address all the wild and domestic parts of my soul.

Put a crown of grapes and hops on a leopard and it’s Dionysus ✨
Honestly super proud of is one. It’s my first time drawing a leopard but it turned out really good! (Use references kids, they help so much)
I was nervous to do this for no reason but I’m glad I did it. I always put too much pressure on myself with devotional pieces lol
Hope y’all like it!

And sometimes, if you do burst into tears, he's the feeling like the poetic catharsis of not caring who sees you weeping.
Yeah, sometimes Apollo is all of those nice little sensations. And sometimes He’s a feeling like you’re about to burst into tears.
