bag - jegulus - @into-the-jeggyverse - word count: 333
“I’m done hiding how I feel, Regulus. You’re too special to ignore.”
Those were the words James Potter had left him with the night before, the words that had been echoing in his head for the past eight hours.
What the fuck was that supposed to mean? Was James going to make some stupid, grand announcement? Kiss him in front of the whole Hall? Fight Sirius for his honor?
Regulus wasn’t sure if he was excited or nervous about the possibilities, if he was honest.
But as he finished his breakfast, he felt a bit let down, as all James did was send him a grin of acknowledgement. No grand gestures or loud confessions of love.
Not until Regulus rose from his seat. Then, within half a second, James was by his side, and it seemed as if all of the eyes of everyone in the entire Hall were on them. It was odd, after all, to see Gryffindor’s golden boy near a Slytherin.
Regulus’s heart thunked in his chest as he tried not to think about the attention he was inadvertently getting. “Hi, Potter,” he mumbled, refusing to look up.
“Hey, love. Can I walk you to class? Carry your bag for you?” the older boy asked eagerly, completely ignoring everyone else in the entire room, his gaze trained adoringly on the Slytherin.
Regulus met his eyes, trying to gauge his intentions. Could it really be that simple?
But yes. It seemed that it could. James wasn’t angling for the attention of the masses. No, he was just here—unapologeticially caring for Regulus in a way Regulus had never had someone care for him before.
And it was stupid, so embarrassingly so, because he could carry a bag, of course, but…Regulus blushed with it. “I—yes?” he answered questioningly, still not sure how to react by this simple, blatant love.
James beamed. “Excellent.”
And, after taking Regulus’s bag, James led him from the room, both of them ignoring the whispers that they left behind.

Your Peter is mean and lazy and just follows James and Sirius around like a starstruck puppy
My Peter is soft. He's got kind eyes and a gentle smile. He has smile and laugh wrinkles because he's always smiling. He's a little shy but is so loud and joyful around his friends.
My Peter has a green thumb. He has so many plants, knows the unique schedules and needs for all of them. He knows what they can be used for in any situation. They all have names.
My Peter loves to sing. He hums little tunes whenever he's doing tasks like homework or cleaning. He sings in a choir, any song from rock to country to pop. And when his friends can't sleep, he sings them soft lullabies.
My Peter is not book smart, but street smart. He can read people super easily, always the first to notice when something is up. He's observant and calm in stressful situations.
My Peter is a good friend and trustworthy. He is the distraction in the pranks a lot because everyone at school trusts him and he was the "good kid."
My Peter's betrayal hurt 10 times worse. Because he was more than a whimpering follower of fame and popularity. He is an equal and a friend.

I WILL DRAW REMUS WEARING LINK'S CLOTHES ONE DAY!!!!
Twilight Princes - 1
Yes, it is a Twilight Princess AU with Remus as Link and Sirius as Midna and I'm feeling feverish
"Remus… Do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls?"
He has never felt so. Yet his father always has these forlorn, thoughtful, eyes as the sun disappeared. To Remus, dusk feels like another kindgom that he has only observed the traditions safely from home.
The twilight feels more threatening, spreading through the sky like it might fall at any wrong move, with time winding out even when you pay attention. It's rather shy but powerful than cold and painful. Remus can already see the start of the twilight.
"Are you going in your father's stead?"
A falcon flies by with a singing screech. Remus has to squint to not lose the sight of it with the sky turning a bleeding orange at its tail.
"Not quite. He said he would speak to yours about it," he explains, eyes closing again to enjoy the last sunrays. "Mine told me that it would make me grow up."
He catches the glimpse of Lily's snort by opening an eye while his own lips twitch in amusement. She folds one knee to put her head against it, face turning to look at Remus laying in the sand.
"Grow up? By bringing a sword to the royal family?"
Remus shrugs. "That is what my father said. I reckon he doesn't want to go himself and he wouldn't trust anyone else with the sword he forged."
Lily's eyes tingle in amusement but quickly grow with cunning. "You would meet the royal family, the Potters... What if I came with you?"
The thought makes him straighten up. His father must have already convinced Lily's father, the mayor, to send Remus to deliver the ordered sword - Lyall is the blacksmith of their humble hamlet but well-known. Enough for the castle to request a sword when they must already have millions of them. Remus hardly understands the appeal, outside of the craft itself, but all the children in town are squeaking about it and begs to get a glimpse of the weapon.
It's not the first time there is such a request, Lyall has made several trips to the capital over the years and told lots about it. Remus always liked to hear about it and often wished he could have come with him. Now that he is asked to go instead of his father, he doesn't quite know what to feel between dread and excitement; even more when he is meant to meet the royal family.
Lily has always been itching to learn more than they can offer here. Always has been hungry for more ever since they have learnt all the books of the village by heart. She does love their little forest, doesn't particularly look for rubies and fanciness like her sister, but she wants to explore the world and isn't afraid of finding a better place. Remus loves his life, as small and peaceful as it is, and wouldn't mind staying here. He doubts Lily would settle for that until she is satiated.
"Would your father let you go?" He asks, incredulous at the thought because it's a fantastic one but he doubts that she would be able to - even less with Petunia accusing them of frolicking and convincing everyone just for her own amusement. Remus has no interest to marry Lily and even less reasons to be accused of eloping.
Lily scoffs. "Probably not but I can climb down my window to meet you. Or go around if we all bid you farewell."
"Do you want to?"
She pauses, almost frowning down at him, before her eyes widen in pure excitement. "Yes."
Remus wets his lips, picturing travelling with Lily, but he can't ignore their parents' reaction to. None would be happy. Yet he can't picture any better trip. It should only be for a week, maybe two if they take their time visiting, but they will come back.
"Then let's go. Let's go together."
Lily beams at him, relief and joy blooming in her eyes, as she throws herself at him with a laugh. He grabs on to her as she hugs him tightly. His horse, Rhiannon, snorts from where she lays down in the fresh spring and the sun as if she understood their newborn adventure.
"They say the capital is far bigger than everything we have seen, bigger than the forest," Lily comments with a wide smile and an excited blush, clearly picturing what they might see. "That's where we shoud start."
"My dad said that he usually stopped in Kakariko but had to camp too."
"It would be just like when we were children."
"We camped in the village, it will be completely different," Remus corrects and she kindly shoves him.
"Sod off, it will be at least as fun. With Rhiannon too, we should take more breaks to not tire her. Or you walk."
"I'm not walking, she is my horse."
"She prefers me."
"Not true, you just keep taking her away!"
"Remus, you can't understand her like I do. Women."
Remus snorts and looks at his horse. If anything, Lily always took extra care of Rhiannon without even asking. They both grew up with Rhiannon, a gift from Remus' mother, and they have accepted to fight for her affection. Not that he minds, they understand each other perfectly.
His days are often books, sheperding the sheeps, babysitting the children especially when they just begged for any sort of weapon or to get a ride on Rhiannon. Remus managed to settle them with sticks but they would always ask for more and mocked him for keeping a simple wooden sword. In a village nested in the forest, it is important to know how to defend yourself, that's why he indulged in his father's lessons even though Remus truly doesn't want to fight. He never got into a real one except for scaring off some large animals.
Most children want to become a knight, learn how to fight and carry swords but Remus never liked the appeal outside from flourished stories. His dad was a knight before becoming a blacksmith, which is his pride, but he still speaks about how awful are the times when knights are needed. Remus doesn't yearn for any fights.
His day has been amazing; fishing and trying to teach the children to stay quiet or to not try to catch fish with their hands unless they want to be sick. He caught two beautiful trouts that his mother prepared for them before Remus and Lily took Rhiannon for a ride through the woods for herbs, until it was time to put the sheeps in the barn. He hasn't paid attention to Petunia's looks when Lily waited for him to finish before walking to Ordon's spring to brush and let Rhiannon relax.
"You will have to be discreet," Remus comments. "If Petunia-"
"She is noisy but I can deal with her. Vernon distracts her enough and she has been trying to convince our parents to send him in your stead."
He frowns. "What for?"
"She says he is more presentable than the boy who stinks like sheeps," Lily says with a sarcastic tone before snickering.
Remus shakes his head in amusement because he could have easily guessed that. "I wouldn't trust Vernon with a sword and even less getting to the castle in one piece."
"Exactly. Well, my parents didn't exactly say that but they think so too," she adds. "He can barely handle the sheeps. Not that he really tries."
Vernon's father is the real shepherd but his son always avoids or finds an excuse to not do any of it; he keeps saying his calling is selling and he has left the town once or twice but always came back empty-handed or scared, with a fancy story to cover that up. It's not a big problem since Remus likes to take care of the sheeps.
He hums thoughtfully. "The sheeps have been skittish lately."
Lily slightly frowns. "I heard. Vernon complained about it when he drank tea with Petunia… Though his father sounded really worried, just like yours."
"Mine? What for?"
"He spoke about the forest. That most animals went into hiding and— that it feels strange."
Remus hesitates on his words because his dad has seemed a bit more stressed than usual but hasn't told them anything. Perhaps to his mam. It could be why he wants to send Remus to the capital in his stead, to stay here in case there is truly something wrong, since he is the best fighter of their village.
"He told me about a forgotten temple somewhere deep in the forest," he recalls. "Maybe that's what-"
Rhiannon jerks in surprise, quickly standing up. Remus recognizes hooves hitting the ground and a loud violent crunch: the forest's gate. The noise doesn't come from the village and the sheeps couldn't cause such a commotion that rattles the earth in fear. Lily looks as confused, quickly standing up to rush at Rhiannon's side who is neighing in panic with anxious footsteps and somersaults even under her hands.
Two large boars storm in the spring. Growling and shrieking on their small quick feet, charging for Remus who escapes just at the last second. Little creatures with horns shout atop of the boars, waving thick maces or bows while another holds the reins. Remus has never seen them before but is convinced that they won't hear a word, so he immediately runs to Lily.
She meets his eyes, scared and holding on Rhiannon, but quickly catches on his sign to run— she could jump and land clumsily, enough for Rhiannon to rush out but a foreign language full of grunts explodes behind him just as an arrow cuts through the air, hitting Lily's back.
A scream of pain tears through the air as she collapses in the low water and Rhiannon rising on her back hooves in panic. Remus' heart beats up in his throat when he spots blood spreading through the spring from Lily. He tries to run to her but a boar almost tramples him right before his skull is crushed by a heavy mass.
Remus groans out, falling down with his head spinning, eyes burning with black spots. Shrieks raise all around him, hooves stomping through the water in joy, as he tries to keep his eyes open but his head can't stop thumping. A raucous growl shutters the air and Remus looks up, left eye furiously blinking at the blood trickling down, to come face to face with a larger boar and a bigger horned monster riding it. His head spins and falls back before he can stop it, with barely the strength to see Lily, unconscious, dragged by a hand to the biggest boar.
The ground quakes and the throbbing pain burns through his skull, yet he feels colder. A horn startles him and he hears one last time Rhiannon's panic before silence bites at his ears amongst the trampling and water swallowing him. The spring trembles and Remus tries to move a finger.
He should have protected Lily, ran back to their village to warn them, stop her bleeding and fought them off— but Remus is still wondering he isn't drowning. His hand is finally moving and he forces his eyes to open, landing on a horrible black tear in the twilight sky. Remus jerks up, managing to fall on his stomach this time, and takes a quick look around as his eyes try to chase off the black smudges.
Except for the hoove prints, there is nothing left. Remus grunts as he forces himself on his knees, catching his breath with a wave of nausea. He stumbles with a weak call.
"Lil'!" He gasps out, grimacing at how drilling it is to his own ears. "LILY!"
Remus finds his footing despite the diziness, trying to make sense before he runs. The sand almost makes him fall but he pushes through and steps over the broken gate to cross the bridge full of heavy hooves marks, leading to the forest.
He shouts for Lily again and even tries to whistle for Rhiannon but he hears nothing when he reaches the end, stumbling into a deep black path. His breath quickens in confusion, lungs prickling painfully, as he faces this anomaly.
Only hours before it was the entry of the forest, yet now there is a heavy presence smothering the air as if it keeps spreading. His eyes take a blind second before truly understanding what he sees in this endless blackness. There is a strange warmth, one that he never felt, and he wonders if it comes from the strange orange markings pulsing through it and cutting through the sky endlessly.
Remus startles at a bubbling noise when an enormous dark hand jumps out from the black surface. It catches him by the throat, tightening menacingly, and jerks him into it.
His breath is cut short and he fights to get out of the grip, having just enough strength to open his eyes to spot the creature holding and watching him curiously. Remus' jaw tightens as he tries to pry the fingers off, leaning back as the shielded head comes closer.
The creature throws him back in surprise just as his hand burns. Remus lands heavily with a groan of pain, head spinning as he tries to stand back up but his head pulls him down.
Remus screams in pain as his hands scratch at his face. His fingers are twitching, nails digging into his flesh and dragging out a guttural shout as his body just keeps breaking and cutting itself apart. His left hand keeps whistling and burning, echoing in his head like a sharp sword until it explodes behind his eyes.
A howl blurts out from his chest, booming through body and forest.
Broken and so different, Remus fights at on the onslaught of pain. His fingers feel tied up but he can somewhat move them. Lily flashes in his mind, dragged through the obscure forest he stumbled into and— the monster. The one that grabbed him.
He doesn't recognize the sound of the forest and Remus stands up in haste, realizing that he is in a room made of stone and smelling awful. It feels larger than he ever saw, as if he is looking almost from the floor itself.
A gargle of surprise escapes him as he finally takes in the paws instead of his hands with one shackled into the ground. He stumbles in panic but he can't get away from the beastly hands. A dizziness catches up to him quickly, forcing him to slow down and adjust on his four limbs. Looking at himself the best he can, he only sees a dog of some kind. He has four dark brown paws with streaks of tawny fur and a long tail.
Remus takes another look just to be sure he isn't crazy but nothing has changed. The paws twitch when he moves and if he focuses enough, a finger or two react but it's still a paw. It almost terrorizes him but he tries to ignore it the best he can, focusing on the thick bars on his right.
It's a jail. He is in a jail. Which he never fell across and he doubts that it would be hidden in the forest. There are no noises and he hurriedly checks the shackle. He must have been cursed by that monster. It was only after getting grabbed that everything started to hurt; even the hit on his head was nothing compared to the tremors jumping through his nerves. He doesn't understand why he would end up here but perhaps that's where they took Lily, even if it wasn't the same horror.
The one that grabbed Remus looked inhuman, melting into the shadow with a lanky disproportianate body between animal and human, with strange markings glooming, and a head covered by a thick shield-like hat.
A shaky breath leaves him, head throbbing at the rush of images, before he tugs on the chain. His claws dig into the metal, sounding terrifingly sharp, before he bites at it when he realises that he must have beast's teeth too.
Remus freezes. It's still complete silence, his ears must be sharper in this cursed body and yet he feels eyes on him but hears nothing. His focus stays on the shackle, at lost of what is his best option, with a growl echoing up his throat. He twists around, teeth showing, to face the figure just behind him.
It's not the same monster but it's not human either. Quite small with an overgrown body that is disformed and appearing to stand on their toes, they stare right at Remus with a menacing squint. He stays on his guard, slowly facing them in confusion, even if they look more clear-headed than the other creature— but they wear something similar.
A large carved stone sits on their head, covering one eye, with the other shining with an iris of silver hues in pure yellow like the rising sun. A part of the face is eaten by a darkness, fur or not, ending up in pointy ears that are longer than he has ever seen. There are strange markings spread all over their body, made of silver but with mixes of crimson, as the rest of the black and fair skin never mix but draws out a strange shape of nakedness and clothes with spikes or tuft of hair sprouting from a few spots.
They don't seem threatening when their face finally clears up in amusement, disappearing in a blink. Remus startles at the odd noise before hearing the snicker right behind him, quickly turning around to face them again with his growls fiercer.
"Ooh, scary. Are you sure you want to be doing that? Snarling and glaring at me?" They snicker with a toothy smile, one longer and sharper tooth sticks out, with their arms crossed. "That's too bad, considering I was the one who bandaged your face when it kept bleeding."
Remus pauses, frowning the best he can, and realises that there are stings all over his body but especially his face. He did scratch his face in pain, though he hasn't truly felt more with the mind-blurring noise in his head back then. The creature watches him confidently, barely bothering to lose any of their smug.
He does stop growling as he recalls that he is still shackled. It's not his best chance to fight back if anything happens, especially with this cursed body. Perhaps they are also cursed or knows how to break it with their similarity.
"Good," they say, turning slightly around without any worries, "I was planning on helping you… As long as you're nice."
Remus huffs but does try to relax, straightening up, as he realises they are at the same eye-level. They wear a strange little cape that starts from their chest, he supposes, and ends up in a weird bird-like tail that keeps moving ominously. It shouldn't be their hair because he can see dark strands from the headpiece with sort of sparkles and a weird shadow moving through it.
"That's much better," they comment with a wide smirk, floating closer. "Humans are obedient to a fault, aren't you? Weeeell, not that you are one anymore: you're a beast."
Remus' jaw is lightly slapped before he can react, his teeth snap forward as a warning but the creature saunters back with an elated laugh. They have a strange aura of mischief and confidence like nothing could ever touch them, particularly happy at Remus' reaction.
"There, there. Be a good boy, alright? No need to bite me," they chide.
He has no clue of his own face but he does hope that he can show how annoyed he is. The creature brings their hands together in front of them, palms up and down facing each other, after taking a deep breath. A spark appears and flickers as it grows into a black orb with lines of red quickly slithering in it.
With a sharp sound, it slices through the air and the shackle trembles, metal jerking at the cut, as Remus stumbles to the right in surprise at the sound. He quickly glances down to spot the handcuff still around his wrist but with only a small part of the shackle, finally free from the chain.
A snicker echoes and he startles when the creature leans toward his head with a proud smirk.
"Surprised?" They ask as they float away, heading toward the bars without even looking. "See how kind I am? Healing and freeing you? I bet you want to know where you are too, right?"
Remus' eyes widen upon the creature's body shifting into rain drops as it passes through the bar to morph back together in a little demon body wearing a wide smile.
"Well, let's make a deal. If you can get over here, I might tell you," they taunt.
It can only be magic, something that only ever appeared in books until now— Remus is mesmerized by the sight of it, wondering if this is truly hair that moves across the creature's back. It's completely dark but clearly alive with hues drifting and speckles of silver and pure light disappearing like waves. Remus only saw the sea once, as a child with his parents', and it's as mesmerizing as seeing the waves lulling back and forth with foam crowning it.
The creature yawns, stretching back obnoxiously, and starts huming with a nasty gleam in their eye.
Remus shakes himself out of it, glancing back at his cut chain before focusing on the room. He needs to find his way out before anything else can happen, such as the creature getting bored and using their magic again but on him. Anyone could also come here, something had to put him in jail and shackle him, not that he hears much outside of the humming. There seems to be no life and the wet, macabre, smell is starting to get worse on his nose.
It's strange to walk on four but it comes naturally, though he almost tries to articulate a question that ends up in a strange whiny bark which he quickly swallows. The creature mostly ignores him, floating as if lying on a couch in middle air, but their tone did grow more amused at his struggle.
Remus can't pass through the bars but there is a spot toward the bottom where the stone floor was broken, perhaps intentionally, and looking like a mix of dirt and sand. He scratches at it, digesting the view of his new hands, before digging furiously to crawl his way through it to pass under the bars.
He shakes himself to get rid of the crumbs of stones and dust and pauses when he hears that naughty laugh echoing around with no creature to see. A weight falls on his back and he immediately arches, barely getting a look at the grinning creature, before he tries to get rid of them by turning and somersaulting around.
"You are not as helpless," they comment in amusement, leaning forward when Remus stops to think of something else to get rid of them. "Listen, I like you, so I think I'll get you out of here." Feet straddle his back, holding tight there, as he feels them putting their all weight on him, before his head is pulled back by an ear. "But in exchange for my help, you have to do exactly as I say," they order and finally lets go of his ear and pats his head. "So, clear? Good. Now, come on!"
Remus snarls at the kicks on his ribs, clearly taken for a horse, with a small encouraging yet sarcastic noise from the creature. It's clear that they intend to stay on his back, hands curling around his fur, and he idly wonders if that's also how it felt to Rhiannon - though he never kicked her that hard ever.
"Chop, chop! Don't you want to stretch your paws?"
He bites on a snarl, opting to stay quiet because he isn't even in his own body and the other living being at his side still hasn't tried to kill him despite magic. Getting out of here and figure out how to retrieve his body and where Lily was dragged is what matters for now.

okay controversial post here: the reason i dont like a lot of ships with james/characterisations of james is that i dont see how the relationship works as i dont believe that the other character actually likes james and i think this is probably partially because i dont find james attractive (sorry) because i am a james kinnie and so he’s too like me, the way i imagine him
and so thats why i love jegulus because its really just the idea that really people could know you and choose you anyway, that they could choose your rough edges and broken parts and see you in your full messed-up entirety and choose you anyway, say yes that’s the one i want: the idiot talking too loudly and falling over his shoelaces, the chronic people pleaser who can’t shut up, the overthinker who needs three to five business days to choose what sandwich hes having for lunch. and it is messy and not perfect because what underscores jegulus is this knowledge that we are not perfect but still we are here and that is good enough
in this essay i will

hello everyone and happy early pride!! 🌈
this is a project i actually worked on last year but posted it very late into june so i dont think it made the rounds i was hoping… so im starting it out a bit earlier this year
i’m a sucker for pride flag sticker/etc. designs and i decided to create some of my own - they are subtle enough to be safe for anyone who maybe can’t normally buy pride stuff, but still recognizable within the community (hopefully lmao)
then, of course i wanted to combine them all into one big piece that would still be subtle - i was inspired by those vintage butterfly species posters and wanted to recreate a version of that with my pride butterflies! the labels underneath each butterfly are short descriptions of what each flag represents, to also help keep things under the radar. super special thanks to @yourlocaltrylingual for helping me with the french translations <3333
all of the individual butterflies can be found on my redbubble, as well as the main poster! they all have nondescript names for safe ordering <3
i hope everyone has a safe and happy pride month, i couldn’t have asked for a better community to be a part of!
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
