Powercreep and Overprocessed Hair
Power imbalance. It's a thing. A thing I've struggled with my entire life. I have a more than healthy distrust of authority and would love to flip the middle finger to them as often as I can. However, I am an adult and doing this would most likely land me in a heap of trouble. I try to find "the middle way" as they say in Buddhism.
Last night, I had three dreams. I won't bore you with the details, but the pattern was that they were all about power imbalances. They stayed with me, so I was running them over and over in my mind until the pattern emerged. I know that, for my most of my life, I've struggled with giving my power away. For the past ten years or so, I've been working very hard to realize when these situations come up and to either avoid them or to take my power back. This is part of shadow work. We have to face and accept the not-so-pretty parts of ourselves in order to move forward. That's my opinion, anyway.
Why am I telling you about this? Well, it so happens that what triggered me was the government memo that was supposed to freeze all federal funding. I'm a disabled, single mom. I have as much federal funding as I can get. When I say I'm disabled, I don't mean that I just say I can't work. I have the medical proof. If that funding had been cut, we would have been homeless and without any means to get food.
Being homeless is scary. I've been homeless twice in my life. Once in my twenties and once after I became a mom. My child was s toddler. Having to rely on the kindness of strangers or even people you know is stressful and can be totally gut wrenching. People will only help you out so much before they begin to get resentful and then make an already difficult situation more difficult. Talk about a power imbalance.
I thank the goddess that that memo was rescinded. I feel like I'm in a "physician heal thyself" situation where I succumbed to fear when I just posted yesterday about how to remain grounded in order to protect your peace.
All this to say, again, protect your peace. Protect yourself. Don't give away your power. Do the shadow work. This is a lesson for me.
Blessed Be.

Frodo Does NOT Have The Ring
These times are chaotic, to say the least. It's very hard not to fall into fear because we don't know what's going on and we don't know what's going to happen next and we don't know if what happens next is going to be worse than what happened before. It most often looks like everything is snowballing and is out of control. Some bad things are happening. The phrase "give an inch and they will take a mile" comes to mind.
What we need to do now is to try our best to stay grounded and not to give in to fear. I would like to give some ideas that might be helpful for us to stay grounded during these weird and dangerous times.
Sit or stand with your feet on the floor or you can go outside and put your feet on the ground. It doesn't matter if you have your shoes on or not. Imagine or visualize roots growing down from your feet into the earth. Visualize them growing larger and larger the deeper they go into the earth. Then, visualize them wrapping around a core at the center of the earth.
If you are a person who doesn't visualize things, you can go outside and literally put your hands or your feet on the earth. You can put your hands into the soil of your plants in your house or garden. (If you garden, this is also an excellent grounding technique.) While you are doing this, just take a couple of seconds to stop and center yourself.
If you are a crafty type of person, you can use your crafts to help ground and center yourself. While you are crafting, just take a few moments to center yourself.
If you have a pet, you can ground yourself by playing with your pet or petting them or even while you go about the business of cleaning their area or feeding them. Just stop for a few moments during this and center yourself. (I have cats and when I pet them, it helps me to come back to myself. Also, their purring has been shown to have healing frequencies.)
If you are a person who likes to exercise, this can be a great way to ground. Take a moment to be present with yourself while you walk, jog, run, work out...whatever you do.
This last one is more of a companion to grounding. If you are person who visualizes things, you can visualize yourself in a transparent bubble. After you've grounded yourself, visualize a transparent bubble all around yourself that nothing and no one can penetrate. Any time during the day or night, when you start to feel overwhelmed, anxious or fearful, you can re-bubble yourself. Personally, I do this a lot and also visualize the outside of the bubble to have mirrors on it facing outward to bounce off any negative energies or emotions that are directed my way. I figure I've got enough to deal with in my own mind. I don't need any extra negative energies, emotions or thoughts directed my way.)
So, this is my list of some ways I can think of to ground ourselves and one way to shield ourselves. I hope this helps someone. If anyone has any other ideas, please feel free to comment them. If anyone has any questions, I will be happy to hear them.
