When people write fics, I really hope they do research into the mental illness they want to show/display in a character. I had read some fics where I had to stop reading people the portrayal was so inaccurate.

Accurate representation is important, it is also important that you show all the sides of a mental illness, not only the ‘good’ or ‘funny’ sides.

I’m so happy a lot more fics are including mental illness and displaying it correctly but some still don’t display it well, I implore you, to do research or talk to a person who has the mental illness.

People with mental illnesses are not you’re ‘quick representation’ please do research, please care enough to display it fully.

It has also come to my attention that recently more people are including ptsd in their fan fics, this is great if it is done correctly and at no point in the fic is a person with ptsd is ‘fixed’ this is wrong, please don’t do this, it is so incredibly harmful.

It’s great that there is more representation but please make it the good kind, the kind that teaches. But remember my and my communities mental illnesses are not your ‘quick representation’ or ‘Excuse for bad behaviour in fics’

Do research and make at least one individual feel seen and understood.
