A little (jegulus but really just regulus) something I put together in the last like. couple minutes idk (I'm not a writer so apologies for any inconsistencies or errors im really tired and this is really messy but anyways)
ALSO CWs!! be aware that this is (very very) heavy in greek mythology parallels and while I did opt to not mention certain parts of Apollo's myths due them not fitting this narrative they could potentially be in light undertones (i.e SHarassment) I don't think it's too present and I do think you have to just read between the lines to even notice it (btw it's mythical Apollo perpetuating it) but I do wanna metion it just as a quick heads up. along with that is suicide ideation which is more or less directly stated as well as hints to an abusive/isolating household and low self-esteem
Please tell me if I should edit the tags or the above at all!!
Maybe it was stupid, naïve, to think he could ever come out of basking in James Potter's sunrays for any period of time anything less than damaged and burned and broken and scorched and maybe it was also stupidly naïve to manipulate himself into thinking he was anywhere near important enough to have deserved the attention in the first place. To convince himself that he was at all similar to Apollo's lovers, to their tragic stories and different personalities, that he was anything other than a person at the edges and that the sunlight just so happened to pass over his pale and sunken face, that James Potter's affection was truly his (forever and always, as long as you'll have me, Regulus, because I won't leave, I swear I won't, not if you don't want me to--). That he was at all like the Sun God's first love, Daphne, who was chased by a bewitched man brighter than everything all around him, that he was like Marpessa with two lovers chasing and begging for love and attention and dedication. That he could choose the most likely to be faithful or that he could even be presented the idea of being within the warm embrace of sunlight for however long the Sun deemed worthy (or maybe he was similar in that regard, that knowledge that eventually someone so much better and higher than himself would undoubtedly move on as soon as he stopped looking like he used to, or started showing any emotions the light's embodiment didn't appreciate. He was replaceable, that much had been proven again and again, he couldn't help but wish he was more shocked when his own Apollo left, because he brought it on himself, really, choosing to do the things he did--) but Regulus didnt even get the chance to give himself up to the Sun. He knows he would have, if given the chance, with no doubt, because a single second with a bright smile and strong hands was better than any chance of stability could ever be---
(those last moments of happiness ricochet around Regulus' mind and he laughs and laughs and cries and laughs again until he's submerged in the water and he's being pulled down, down, lower and lower -- is it gravity or is it the tight grip around his neck and wrists and torso and are those claws? and and and he cant breathe and he doesn't want to just like Cyparissus and and and--)
But yes. He was stupid to have thought he could be a second Hycathius with Apollo's pride in his lover and casual affection, that he would be loved and turned into a new beauty following his unnecessary death.
That he could be anything other than Cyparissus who died of heartbreak following his tragic slaying of a courageous stag, forever scarred by nature and permanently mourning, forever forgotten and forever loving, forever regretting. He would be turned into a symbol, but one of tragic demise rather than that of forgiveness.
He would be Icarus, too, (but maybe not because, again, is he really important enough to be considered at all like Apollo's lovers? Does he have so much power as to be made a cautious tale?) because he flew too close, too fast, too desperate to feel the rays of light on his pale, sunken face, too eager to no longer be confined in his very own prison with a single other person who cares with him, a monster waiting on the other side of the door and even more torturous creatures beyond the suffocating walls of a cleverly built labyrinth. His carefully crafted wings melted and the plumet to the earth, to the wide expanse of ocean was a millisecond and a millennium and he laughed and cried all the way down because this is what it feels like to be alive and his former only companion continued on, unaware of the demise the only person he had cared about had just gone through at the hands of his own invention though maybe not at his own fault.
Maybe it was stupid, naïve, to believe he would leave this world with smooth skin and a content grin. But he knew, it was even more and even less debatedly, stupidly naïve to have thought he could have his own story at all, and even worse when he thought James Potter would have a long part in it. He had the most short(significant) part in it, though, the same happened with Icarus. He didn't last long at all with the Sun, and just as little time after.
#the last paragraph is like barely comprehensiblw#but whatever#tw low self esteem#tw sui ideation#tw child abuse#tw child neglect#tw isolation#regulus black#sirius black#marauders era#writing#harry potter#james potter#jegulus#reg is icarus and also some other mythological figures (motephetically)#james is the sun#yall i find the cyparissus comparison so oddly funny#like honestly depending on the version it can dit as well as the icarus#oh wait qould i have to tag#angst#?#oh well why not#sirius is like dedealus in this kinda at least i kinda hint at it#no shade to him for that one part though#at least he doesnt push some kid relative off a tower later on#can you tell ive read pjo??#and dormed an obsession from then and now own informational books about greek myths#and that i came up with this cause i was flipping through one earlier??#oh ueah back to that onw point#i headcannoned reg as having a cypress wand for a while i still might idk i havent thought of it in a while

I feel like something the show could have that would be cool would be like, have these little flashbacks that werent really scenes in the books (as we know they are adding and adjusting some stuff from the books), specifically, with Nico and Hazel (if they get to hoo) and even Bianca during her little screen time to the 1920s and 30s, cause I feel like it would give their situation more depth.
Because, in the books, nico was said to have a lot of his early teachings influence him, mostly while struggling though his identity, and his mother was at least somewhat important to his story even if it wasn't shown in reading. Having flashbacks (or something else similar if that doesnt fit the show) that shows why nico 'clings' to his past (for lack of better wording) so much could be powerful

That moment when you're drawing something you've been imagining and thinking of for a long time but don't like that version so you redo it somewhere else but while redoing it you come up with another idea and you focus on that one cause you don't want to forget it but then you completely forget the original

For a bit more context, I use my phone mostly and hold it pretty far from my face, so I see this

I feel like admitting to my lack of observation skills today, so
You know that one hand shaking emoji? It's pretty popular now, this one:
Yeah, I thought that was a basket.
