Art Rewind: Monster

I wish I could say I’ve drawn more fan art of my favorite anime but sadly, I have not. This was drawn back in November of 2020 around the time I’d first finished watching the series. If you haven’t seen it, I definitely recommend Naoki Urasawa’s "Monster"—though I’ll warn you, it’s neither for the impatient nor the faint of heart.

Art Rewind: Marvel

"Cyclops" (Marvel NOW)

While I’m not too big on comics from today or the past decade, I did really like the design they gave Cyclops for the Marvel Now era, prompting me to sketch him in 2019. I found said sketch and colored it digitally to give it a nice finish.

"Attack of The Goblin"

Drawn in 2020 as a birthday gift for @espeiderman.

"Doctor Doom"

Inspired by Hamlet, I drew this in 2021 after gaining a newfound appreciation for the character.

"i Am Machine"

Inspired by the album cover of Three Days Grace’s "Human", I drew a more Ultron-inspired version in 2021.

"Punisher"

Drawn as a birthday gift for someone I’d role played with for a while back in 2021.

"Captain America"

Drawn in 2021 to celebrate American Independence Day. As Axl Rose once said in a Guns N' Roses song (if you know, you know), "Captain America's been torn apart, now he's a court jester with a broken heart".

"Big Bertha"

Drawn in 2022, Big Bertha is probably my favorite obscure Marvel character, I’d love to see more of her around.

"Reflection"

I was really in a zone when I drew this one back in 2023 for @espeiderman’s birthday, I still like how moody the whole thing turned out.

"Ghost-Spider redesign"

A reference sheet I drew for a client of their own interpretation of Spider-Gwen back in April.

A little comic strip I made in June about Scott and Jean from the X-Men comics.

A quick artwork I drew of Marvel’s Cyclops and Wolverine, perhaps the most prolific rivalry within the X-Men. My friend had been asking me to redraw an artwork of his depicting the dynamic between the two characters, so it was good to finally get around to that.

Art Rewind: DC

Similarly to what I did last time with a few of my Dragon Ball artworks from over the years, I selected some highlights out of some DC fanart I’ve created.

"The Dark Knight"

A sketch work I drew in 2018 to test out an art journal I’d just gotten at the time. While he could have benefitted from longer ears, I still really like how this one has aged.

"Batman"

An artwork based on the iconic still toward the ending of the iconic opening from "Batman: The Animated Series". I drew it as a gift for a friend’s birthday in 2019.

"Batman and Robin"

An art collaboration between @eigs and I, she drew Robin while I drew Batman. Originally only a sketch in 2019, I returned to it earlier this year and digitally colored over it.

"The Kill(ing Joke)"

A couple of Joker artworks I drew, this first in 2020 based upon his comic appearance, and the second in 2021 based upon Jared Leto’a appearance in the music video for Thirty Seconds To Mars’ "The Kill".

The Penguin

Penguin is (usually) my favorite Batman villain, and as a result, I wound up showing him a little appreciation in 2020 with an artwork of his own.

"Man of Steel"

I drew the DCEU iteration of Superman in anticipation of Snyder’s cut of the Justice League film in 2021. I know the trend was black suit Superman at the time, but I hadn’t drawn Superman in so long, I just wanted to get him in his standard colors.

"Doomsday"

An artwork I’d drawn of Doomsday in 2021. Fantastic Superman villain.

"Batgirl"

Drawn in 2021 as my entry in a "what-if?" challenge where I depicted Stephanie Brown in my own redesign continuing as Batgirl while Barbara Gordon remained as the Oracle instead of reclaiming the Batgirl title like she did in the New 52.

"It's Not Easy"

Drawn to celebrate Superman Day in 2022, I aimed to capture both the brilliant hopeful side of his character while simultaneously addressing the alienation and burdens he battles behind closed doors. I’m not too crazy about how this one turned out, largely because I didn’t put enough work into the background but I am proud of the shading and coloring and I still really like the overall concept.

"Superman"

Drawn in 2024 to celebrate Superman Day again. I couldn’t go for anything too complex due to my work schedule but I think I succeeded in a simplistic approach a lot better this time. It’s also probably my best Superman artwork to date.

Art Rewind: Dragon Ball

I went through my gallery and picked out a few Dragon Ball artworks I created over the years I felt stood out and decided to share them here with you.

"This Isn’t Even My Final Form!"

A transformation sequence I made of Frieza back in 2020 (yes, I know I forgot Cyborg Frieza). I first released it on an online Dragon Ball community under the name "SaiyanOverlord".

"Cellvolution"

A parody of the iconic "The March of Progress/The Road to Homo Sapiens" painting by Rudolph Zallinger, I instead depicted Cell’s road to perfection. Drawn in 2020.

"Super Vegeta"

One of—if not my very first digital art piece. I drew a simple bust of Vegeta in his Super Saiyan form. I’ve learned a lot of things about digital art since but this 2020 illustration was finger-drawn on a single layer (which made the month-spanning experience far more challenging than it needed to be).

"Man and Metal"

I drew this one (also in 2020) for a friend of mine who liked Krillin. A lot of people have come and told me Krillin looked stoned in this one, I wonder why?

"Sailor 18"

The #sailormoonredrawchallenge was big at the time so I decided to add my own twist to things by drawing Android 18 as the titular protagonist.

"Son Goku"

I drew Son Goku in a blend of styles between my own and the original manga’s as tribute to the late Akira Toriyama, who unfortunately passed away earlier this year.

"Future Trunks Cast"

Still in a Dragon Ball mood from the Goku artwork, I decided to draw the Future Trunks cast + a post-apocalyptic cyborg Launch in a similar style.

Recently I was commissioned this piece by @overlordmetal in anticipation for Slipknot's anniversary tour and most specifically the concert that happens today. Absolutely hyped. I had so much fun drawing this.

The concept was Slipknot if they were the Espada from Bleach. It took a good deal of planning and I will include the bonus sketch page that was made when details were being laid out!
