Demihuman

noun.

A demihuman is an individual who engages in a lifestyle that blends human and animalistic traits, often as a form of identity expression or personal fulfillment. While reminiscent of 24/7 petplay dynamics, the demihuman lifestyle is typically mostly safe-for-work, and focused on an intrinsic identity aspect rather than sexuality.

Demihuman lifestylers may:

- Wear costume elements such as animal ears, tails, collars, or paws in public or private settings.

- Adopt behavioral traits of their animal-half, such as vocalizations (e.g., growling, purring, chirping), gait mimicry, or mannerisms associated with their animal-half.

- Engage in scenting, nesting, or similar practices drawn from instinctual animal behavior, emphasizing comfort, territory, or emotional regulation.

- Have a "owner", "handler", or pack, made up of non-lifestylers or other lifestylers.

- Adopt jobs related to their animal-half. Eg. A service demihuman may go into the medical field to reflect their animal-half.

- Dress in ways that reflect or suggest their animal-half, sometimes blending fashion with fantasy or species-specific motifs.

- Participate in activities that foster connection with their animal identity, which may include roleplay, themed routines, or community meetups.

This term refers to the lifestyle itself, not the alterhuman term referring to identifying as partially human in some way alongside one's alterhuman identity.

Term inspired off of numerous tropes of animal-people in fiction, but especially specific manga and anime. Namely, Nekopara.

FAQ:

Is this a sex thing?

It can be! Petplay (safe-for-work, or not) as a dynamic is a huge part of being a demihuman. I know that being a dogperson bleeds into every aspect of my life, including in the bedroom, so, go for it!

Can I be a demihuman if I'm a therian/miscecanis/kemonomimi/whatever else?

I'm not the label police. Do whatever you want forever.

But do note this term was coined to describe a specific way of living, specifically how I want to live with my partners, as a domesticated dog therian with a dogboy kintype. :) I use it as a supplemental short-hand, but if you want to solely identify as Demihuman too, that's awesome!

Is there? Please show me! (Genuine.) I don't want to coin a word that already has been out there forever. But to my knowledge, I haven't found one describing the specificness of my experience.

Do I need to have XYZ in order to be demihuman?

Nope! Gear is fun and all, but that isn't necessary to be a Demihuman.

I'm a minor, can I be a Demihuman?

I won't say no. But note that some of this stuff does involve a lot of kink-intrinsic dynamics and such. I'd at least ask you to be mature and level-headed, and not witch-hunt others for simply existing in a way you don't like, thank you!

A term for when one no longer feels connected to / fully identifies with a name, but continues to use it due to previous longstanding or significant use that seems to have carried it forward like momentum.

Here’s some OCD flags for you all!  I figured I would go for a ‘strong yet kind’ type of color scheme because people who deal with OCD have a lot of inner strength to get throughout the day and we also do need to be kind to ourselves as well! :) I also wanted to play with (mostly) primary colors and making gradients with this scheme!

Autistic Pride Flag Masterlist - Part 1

Hey everyone! I noticed that there are a lot of proposed designs for an autistic pride flag, so I thought it might be a good idea to collate them all in order to both spread awareness and provide autistic people with the resources to make their own pride icons and headers from them!

Each post will include a header-sized flag, two icons and an icon tempate.

Our first design is from @hs-spritely! It’s one of my personal favourites because of its unique colour scheme that’s both gorgeous to look at and easy on the eyes (which is pretty important when you consider the fact that so many of us have sensory issues). They also ascribed a specific meaning to each of the colours which I feel is a lovely touch as it serves as a tribute to some of the more “classic” pride flags while also showing that it has a place among them.

Black - Strength as a community 

Teal - People who are non-verbal or feel distant from society because of their autism

Yellow - People who are hyper verbal or hyperenergetic because of their autism

White - Peace and understanding, from both within and outside the community 

Red - The RedInstead movement and autistic self advocacy

Autistic Pride Flag Masterlist - Part 2

This flag was designed by reddit user Trerrysaur, they have a keen interest in vexicology and I think their knowledge of the subject really shines through here. Like the previous flag in this list, all of the colours have a specific meaning ascribed to them, the dark red is for autism acceptance, the blue for autism awareness, with red between them standing for compassion between the two sides. The gold was included because its sometimes seen as the “Autistic element” due to it having the chemical symbol Au.

Trerrysaur also put a lot of thought into the specific shades that would be used for this flag, as they explained:

“(the shades) seem fitting, since they’re warm without being energetic. This reflects the want for tranquility and understanding, and avoids being overstimulating. The colors and their use go against multiple flag design traditions, as a way of showing that autistic people see the world differently.”

Another thing I think is particularly great about this flag is how reminiscent it is to the classic “superhero colour scheme”. I feel this is fitting as I’ve met a lot of Autistic people who relate to superhero stories a lot, especially those about characters learning to accept and embrace the things that make them different.

NEURODIVERGENT GAY FLAG

I am sure one exists already but I just can't find one, so I decided to make my own general neurodivergent gay (vincian) flag; so for anybody neurodivergent in any form! A symbol to go with it as well.... I kind of hate how the infinity sign is seen as both just a symbol for autism and then also a symbol for the neurodivergent community as a whole (to the point I've seen people argue that it should ONLY be used for autism) so, I like the idea of a double infinity symbol (I'd call it an infinity flower) instead so that it's more distinct but still includes the infinity sign, and also more conditions it covers so more infinity signs for that then (which this symbol may have been done before just because it's a very basic concept idk) but for this being a neurodivergent gay flag, I did that with the double infinity being hearts! (which I'd call that an infinity clover.) And the colors on the flag are very close to the ocean gay flag colors which along with that, teal is often used as a ribbon color for multiple neurodivergent conditions (tourette's and ocd as big ones), green is used as a ribbon color for mental health awareness and many mental illnesses (which is included as neurodivergent conditions), grey is included too as an awareness ribbon color for mental illness, red in the center as red is a color for autism and autistic people are big leaders of the neurodivergent community! Also I forgot to post this here! It is a common combo to have and I couldn't find a flag for it for some reason! (could just have eluded me)

Colors are based off of the 3 different existing flags + the general neurodivergent symbol on top. Also, I know ASD and Autistic are not necessarily completely interchangeable but for this flag it is definitely either/or, you don't need to be professionally diagnosed to use the flag!
