"Don't worry kid, you're dad had plenty of kids he stopped helping out when he lost interest"
Theseus, who was helped by poseidon multiple times, but in the end was thrown off a cliff by the citizens of Athens and drowned. Drowned in the ocean, the very domain of his father.
Kymopoleia, who was neglected by Poseidon once he found her to be too violent, left to wander his abandoned palaces, given up as a war prize to man she didn't even want with no choice at all.
Bellerophon, who was given the pegasus to tame as a gift from Poseidon in some myths, dying by falling off of it on his way to Olympus.
I'm just saying, that line wasn't a random throwaway line by Ares, he means it.

it’s the way annabeth never even suspected percy to deceive her with the sword and pull a trick to save her because she’s been fighting mostly alone at camp since she was seven and has never had such a fiercely loyal friend who would have her back instead of expecting her to be the strong problem-solver ready to take all the blows no matter what. like forget that percy put her safety over his own, but doing so while poisoned and tired and on a super important quest?? that’s blasphemy to annabeth and yet percy did just that. i’m not surprised annabeth hugs him in the preview because this seals their bond forever. both were ready to sacrifice themselves for the other (and grover, never forget grover) and that fundamentally changes dynamics.

on top of everything else the fact that miguel doesn’t have a spider sense (as seen in his very first scene with gwen & the vulture) is really making me Think…

ITSV is what I have called a perfect movie.
That being said, ATSV knocks it out of the fucking park. There could not have been a better sequel.

just saw the movie again and had a thought. major spoiler warning!!
if the way things were “supposed” to go had panned out— miles had never been bitten, the og spider-man lived to shut down the collider and prevented spot from existing— how could the canon event of Officer Singh dying have occurred? feel free to correct me if i’m wrong, but his death was directly related to the destruction of alchemax that happened because of spot. so how could his death still been an event that was supposed to happen at that exact moment in that timeline?
maybe i’m overthinking it lol but i can’t figure that out. maybe it’s just more pointing towards miguel’s whole system being bs.

I FUCKING LOOOOVE how spiderverse is basically a commentary on every other spider man movie ever (they werent even just impliying that they literally showed andrew garfield spiderman crying over his uncle) . ESPECIALLY commentary no way home because ew . hated it . like look every version of spider man lost at least FIVE people closest to them; their parents, their aunt and cop uncle, their fucking girlfriends, they literally cannot catch a break . its like an unspoken rule that a hero must suffer to become one and most of them are cursed to live a life where their job is literally to save people but they can't even save the people they loved the most .
But miles is like FUCK YOU!!!!!! IM NOT DOING THAT BOZO 😂😂😂😂😂 you dont have to suffer and lose everything to become a hero . You know that . Right . you can still be a hero and also like, be loved ? suffering doesnt guarantee your success and you dont hsve to suffer first in order to become good . You know that ? Right ?? Rip british nerd peter parker from earth 199999 but im built different lol fuck that doomed by the narrative bullshit my boy is balling !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay major Across the Spiderverse spoilers but I have speculation I want to put out there.
So I just saw the movie with @everyonehasbeatenmetotheusername and we were discussing and we came up with a theory: Miguel O’Hara isn’t really Spider-Man. In fact, he might actually be a version of the Prowler.
Our reasons:
The music that played when he is introduced immediately reminded me of the Prowler theme from the first movie
We see him injecting himself with spider venom, as though he didn’t get it the same way as everyone else
His webs have a much more technological, artificial feel to them than the rest of the spider people, and the claws on his suit are very reminiscent of the Prowler’s claws, with are also artificial
Miles straight up questions whether he is a real Spider-Man in his dialogue
It’s a very strange coincidence that Miguel was able to show up in a world exactly when another Miguel died and take his place. But what if he killed that world’s Miguel to try and steal his happy story?
The ending introduces the idea that a person who could be Spider-Man in one world could be the Prowler in another
Miguel is so insistent that Miles is an anomaly, that he shouldn’t exist. Perhaps he’s overcompensating for something?
Neither of us know much about the comics, so this speculation could be way off base, but I wanted to share the theory.
