My friend's dad's roto tiller wouldn't #start. A plastic part in the starter was worn and needed to be replaced, but he was unable to #findthepart anywhere. The design was #simpleenough to model and took no time (less than 2 hours 😉 ) to print. I had no idea when I was modeling this what it did (turns out, it catches the motor when the starter cord is pulled and spins the motor to start the roto tiller) but understanding how the part worked isn't always necessary if you can #duplicate the design pretty closely. I'm proud to say the replacement part works perfectly! I recently had the thought that family #heirlooms made of plastic will probably not be seen on antiques roadshow because plastic gas such a short life span, AND because many things made of plastic are mass produced, making their uniqueness value practically zero. Imagine a world where instead of replacing an entire machine when a 10 cent piece of plastic in it fails, you kept the machine and replaced the part that broke. #makeityourself #gardenseason #miy #3dprinting #theprintedsolution #oneplanet #rototiller #CAD #smartchoices #sentimentalvalue #peoplehelpingpeople #findyourniche #savemoneylivebetter #ifitsbrokefixit (at Arlington Heights, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/CN05gd8j_nu/?igshid=t4ek6q14na9m

This is the first time I am trying to #grow my own vegetables! My dad was generous enough to give me #space in his garden in the backyard and helped me get the garden ready for planting in the beginning of June. It was a little late in the planting season the way I understood it for the Chicagoland area, but I love produce and nature and saw how I could #benefit from working on a long term project... so... So far so good! One of my main goals for my first season is to spend as little money as possible. I considered buying a terrace for the cucumbers to grow on, but a fallen tree branch from a recent #storm I am hoping will work just as well. I cut it and stripping mini branches and then secured them together with pieces of old metal clothes hangers. Total cost: 2.5 hours of my time. Day 5 - COVID-19 Quarantine
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moondate: 14 days from the last full moon which rose and set in Virgo (from where I am) on the solar day March 9th 2020. Aries, Day 0 of the lunar cycle on the solar day 3-24-2020. A NEW MOON!
I am a math, science and test prep tutor. Yesterday morning I had an online meeting about having tutoring sessions online for the time of self isolation. Schools have been closed and students are staying at home. I was super excited about the possibility of online tutoring because that meant I got to work and stay at home and not come into contact with anyone.
JUST FOR THE TIME BEING. Meeting people in person and personal interactions are important. Until COVID-19 goes away though, for the first time in history we can do a lot of the work we do, our contributions to the working economy from home,
I got an email today informing me that I was going to be doing online tutoring, but I needed to go into work to do remote sessions with the students from my work building. I was super disappointed because the zero risk of getting COVID-19 by staying at home has to increase to some risk of getting COVID-19 by leaving the house and going to work, to then do my work remotely by computer.
It’s important that students continue learning, but as was clear in the work online training session, having one person talk to a lot of people doesn’t keep everyone interested all the time. And we are adults. Trying to keep kids and teenagers attention to learn can be difficult sometimes. Other times they are super great learners and picking things up quicker than I can tutor it.
One person teaching online to a few students at most is the best way to go about it.
Having to go in and increase my risk of getting COVID-19. even if its a small risk, that I might become contagious and give it to my mom would be terrible. But I need to do work.
“Do your Dharma, Arjuna”.  That always comes to mind when it comes to work that needs to be done. Do the work that you need to do. My dharma is to do my job and go into work. I want to stay home to avoid even that small risk, but staying home is not an option. I must do my dharma because if I don’t money becomes even more of an issue.
Sometimes your dharma is to stay home and protect the more vulnerable. Think of it as action in inaction. Action in inaction is the dharma that you do when you don’t do anything. Its best to protect our loved ones for people to stay home, when they can.
I had time to take a walk in a forest preserve today. Forest preserves are my favorite place to walk. I like to go on paths and I love trees and plants around me. It’s peaceful and nice to look at.
While walking, sometimes I like to do walking meditations. Other times, I listen to books or podcasts. Today I listened "This is 99% Invisible, I’m Roman Mars”. I’m not really sure how to really phrase that since so many people contribute to making a podcast, even though there is one title and often only 1 or 2 “main” talkers, and although there are favorite people who come on and talk with Roman.about something.
I shared it with people, so someone would listen to it and I would have someone to talk about it with. Instead I will talk about about it to tumblr. tumbler doesn’t have anything to add in (besides some helpful suggestions of things I have already said myself), tumblr just is.
I have more to tell you about  “...99% Invisible, I’m Roman Mars” and episode 394. Roman Mars Describes Things As They Are . Romans “... job in this world is to tell stories about all thought that goes into the things most people don’t think about. “ It’s really good, check out this episode.
Roman excellent teacher and there is so much wisdom is this episode! I’ll tell you how I feel about tomorrow, which is today, but later today, and will end this blog of yesterday close to that time. It’s still before midnight somewhere in the world for this Day 5. Although that will not be true a day from now.
Below are some pictures from today. #CHICAGOLAND.
Me. Mom and Dad, they like to take walks too. a garter snake I found off the path, Illinois’ previous day COVID-19 updates. The last full moon as it would have been from where I am ( but not from where you are), today’s NEWMOONDAY.  a gif (pronounced like gift without the the t) of the snake sensing heat with its tongue.
I have more to say about what I am calling “THE cure TO coronal VIRI” (Is the plural of virus, viruses or viri? like cactus is cacti -> cactus is to cacti as virus is to viri.).  Spell check says viruses, but I’m not sure

Day 3 of corona virus quarantine - 3-22-2020
Yesterday, I hid my parents keys to try to keep them safe and prevent them from going into the public, worrying that if they caught COVID-19, they would die.
As you could imagine, that did not go over very well. I got into a fight via text with my siblings and my parents about my methods to keep them safe and it just escalated from there. It was very emotional for me and very exhausting.
My parents went on a walk anyway, and conceding that no matter how much I wanted to keep them safe, I could not force them to do anything. I returned all the keys.
My parents, though, are still in the high risk category for those most likely to die from COVID-19 if they contracted it, so I am still worried for both of them. They are both 59, my mom is on immuno suppressants.
My mom works as a nurse at an OBGYN office, and will be going into work tomorrow. She said they are not taking people with symptoms, and she works answering phones, but there's still a risk there.
She sees it as a must that she works to support the family, which I understand. Her being at high risk for dying, and the ease of COVID-19 spreading from person to object to person makes me very anxious.
Corina virus can live on plastic surfaces for over 72 hours.
Corona virus can live on Stainless for over 48 hours.
Corona virus wasn't detectable on cardboard after 24 hours, but how long I don't know.
So corona virus hangs around a long time, and you could expose yourself to corona virus by touching the same object s contagious person touched the day before.
If you touch your face after touching a contaminated object, you could get Corona virus. That shouldn't be scary for most people since the death rate is low for people under 40, but for the most vulnerable, including my parents, that is a serious threat.
I have a strong immune system. I've been sick only once within the past 5 years or so just recently.
I started thinking about that, and its not necessarily true that I have not caught the flu, I can only say for certain that I have didn't have flu like symptoms. Actually, whenever I felt a some kind of cold coming on, I would take coldeeze for a few days and be fine.
So there's a good possibility that I have been infected with the flu virus, therefore making me contagious, but have been asymptomatic due to my strong immune system and rhe way that I take care of myself.
Even now that could be the case, and I hope it is not. Some of my siblings think I am over reacting in concern for my parents, while I think they are under reacting.
Only time will tell.
Its totally possible to be infected with corona virus and not have any symptoms. This makes those most dangerous of all, because they will likely isolate less since they are feeling fine, even though they are just as contagious as a person who feels sick.
Luckily, I was able to have a session with my therapist this morning via online, so that was so helpful just being able to talk about everything that's going on. And she is equally having to manage how things are temporarily different due to the stay at home order.
Behind every one's role and who we are in the real world, we are all just beings, going through this thing together, even if we have to temporarily stay physically seperate.
Talk to people. I'm scared. Not for myself, but for others. It's good to talk about things. Its also good to talk about nothing. Sometimes its good to just sit in silence.
I've been less diligent in the amount of meditation I do lately, but I am getting back on top of it and back into my routine. Its so helpful.
In late February, I met a woman on facebook online dating, who is from Kenosha. She is a music teacher, wonderful, smart, beautiful, plays piano. We're going to make music together :).
Think of others, take care, and stay safe.

Day 2 - 3-21-2020
My name is Nick and I just turned 33 years old. I currently live at my parents house.
This morning I hid my parent's keys.
I respect my parents right to make their own decisions, that is not what this is about.
My Mom is 59 years old and works as a nurse. Since she works in an industry that won't be shut down by the government self quarantine, she still has a job to go to.
She takes immuno-suppressents for her rheumatoid arthritis. Effectively, she has no immune system. If she were to contract COVID-19, the likelihood of her surviving would be very low. She will die if she gets COVID-19.☠
My Dad is 60, and although somewhat healthy, he is also at higher risk of dying if he caught the virus. The other weekend he got a flu shot and his temperature went up and we found out he had an infection. He was started on a course of anti biotics, and is recovering from the bacterial infection.
Both my parents could die if they got COVID-19.
That would mean:
No more seeing them in the morning.
No more hearing stories from my dad about his day babysitting my nephew.
No more watching undercover boss together.
No more family pictures with my parents in them.
No more talking, no more hugs, no more seeing their faces, no more begrudgingly having my mom help me do something I can do for myself while saying "I will always be you Mom". 😥
No more mom.
COVID-19 can be handled if people choose to do what's in the best interest of the most vulnerable among us.
I got into an argument via text earlier with brother and sister in our family group chat about hiding my parents keys to protect them from themselves.
Corona virus is spreading in the United States and it is killing people. It is spreading because people are doing so many unnecessary things that they need not do. Going to the store to stock up on perishables, hoarding toilet paper, eating at fast food restaurants.
There was even a guy who, in anticipation of COVID-19, went out to stores in advance and bought up all the purell and hand sanitizer, so that he could sell it overpriced on Amazon.
This isn't a game. This is not an opportunity to make money by creating shortages of supplies that can help keep people safe in order to sell those items at a much higher price. That is not capitalism. That is just wrong. Amazon stepped in and stopped him from selling it online which is good. But that mentality of "I can make money at the expense of other people's health and well being" is horrible.
I am also a tutor. Speaking with one of my students, I joked around about the shortage of toilet paper and how crazy it was that people were buying so much, and he said that his family didn't have any. 🤯
What happened in the world that there should be a shortage of toilet paper?
This is craziness. If everyone just bought what they needed, then we would not have run out of toilet paper.
The CORONA VIRUS is just like the Sars virus.
The world will not end from COVID-19. PEOPLE HAVE DIED AND WILL DIE from the Corona Virus. How many in America really depends on how well Americans take up the challenge of doing what's best for their neighbor.
Yes. We have the right to go out with a contagious virus and cough on all the fruits and vegetables at the store. The question is: having that right to live freely, and as a circumstance, the right to contaminate food, is it really in everyone's best interest, including your own, if you exercise that right?
The weak and vulnerable do not have a choice on whether they live or die if stronger healthier people are going to rub COVID-19 in their faces.
This is about loving eachother and doing what is best for everybody, by putting aside our own egos.
ITS ONLY A FEW WEEKS PEOPLE!
What you do now will determine how many people will be alive at the end of this.
And the end is only a few weeks.
Only a few weeks.
Only a few weeks.
Can you stay inside and make do best you can with what you have and only leave when necessary so that others who are weaker and more vulnetable than yourself don't die?
Love your neighbor, as you would love yourself.

WE SHOULD ALL DO WHAT WE CAN TO PROTECT THE PEOPLE MOST VULNERABLE TO THE CORONA VIRUS!
What if instead of having special shopping hours for people at risk of dying from COVID-19, anything they needed could be brought to them by people who have been screened for and test negative for COVID-19?
Moreover, what if people only went to the stores to buy what they absolutely needed in order to get by?
That way we could minimize people going out in public to buy things they don't need, like 3 month's supply of milk, for example.
Let's press pause on the economy!
Let’s allow everyone who doesn't absolutely need to go in to work stay home during this epidemic. Let people work from home remotely, if necessary. Let everyone get paid as they normally would if they were going to their job, regardless of their current situation.
Let's pretend like things are normal, and just stay inside for the sake of protecting the most vulnerable… just until we stop COVID-19 from spreading anymore.
What if we all treated this like a stay at home vacation, a stay-cation! We can do the best we can with what we already have at home, and only go out in public to get something when absolutely necessary.
Boredom happens. Boredom will not kill us. If we have to, let us allow ourselves to be bored...
There are so many things to do, things to think about, listen to the news. Talk to family! Reconnect with friends! Catch up on projects that need to be finished around the house. Read a book. Cook dinner. Watch a movie. Play a board game. Binge on Netflix. Talk to people. Learn a new skill. Youtube a tutorial. Read an article online. Minimize our waste the best that we can! Always be humble and kind.
If COVID-19 is not spreadable long distance through the air, sit on the porch or play in the back yard. Look at the stars at night. Wonder about the vastness and awe of the universe.
Make do with what we can. There is no need to go out to the store to replace that toothbrush I've been putting off replacing for a month, I can use that toothbrush for now and wait until the pandemic is over. There is also no need to buy that toothbrush online to have it delivered to me. Most people will be okay for a few more weeks with their old toothbrush.
Ask yourself: Do I need to order this non-essential item online right now and shop for material objects on my time off?
I am not worried for myself if I got COVID-19. I have a strong immune system, and will be just fine. My mother, on the other hand, is taking immuno-suppressants for her rheumatoid arthritis. She may not be fair so well if she were to get COVID-19.
That would be terrible if I were to catch COVID-19 while being out and about for my own pleasure and spread it to a person who is more vulnerable to dying from the virus than I am. Even though I am healthy enough to survive COVID-19, that does not mean I should not consider every other being who could die if they caught COVID-19.
I need to consider my actions for the next few weeks and consider whether my actions could put vulnerable people at risk of catching the virus.
Is going out in public absolutely necessary and in the best interest of the ones I love? Sometimes it may be absolutely necessary. Many times it probably will not be absolutely necessary.
Should people at risk of dying from COVID-19 really go out shopping? Would it be impossible to get them the things they need by having it delivered by people who were determined to be COVID-19 free? Lots of people are not working, there seems to be a lot of potential people that could volunteer.
I can't test myself for COVID-19. If I don't have it, I'd be happy to volunteer some time to bring essentials to people who are at risk of dying of COVID-19 so they can safely remain indoors.
People delivering items to other people's doorsteps should be screened for COVID-19. Why would we not make sure that people delivering items to others are not themselves contagious?
It would not be a good idea for a person infected with COVID-19 to be delivering things to people's doorsteps.
Amazon, UPS, FEDEX, and the USPS should all be ahead of the game and testing their deliverers for COVID-19 before they go out and make deliveries. If their employees test positive, allow them to stay home and pay them anyway. To the companies of these employees: These people are not only your workers, they are your family, take care of them during this time.
This virus will not last forever, and the more that everyone helps one another, the shorter this period of isolation will need to be.
Love your neighbor. Help your neighbor.
If you have COVID-19, stay inside and pray for your neighbor. Wave through the window and smile.
Serve others. Do what you can do to better everybody, including yourself.
We will be okay if we love each other, care for each other, and make decisions based on the needs of others. All our actions don't have to be based on our own wants and desires all the time.

We can be very smart, very capable, very strong, and very loving beings when we need to be. Right now we need to be. :)
