a breakdown of a (semi-lost) student’s life :

• gave my big exam

• realised how terribly it went

• was miserably lost after my exam

• went to see a career counsellor

• was on a verge of breakdown

• started and left an internship cause it didn’t align with my career goals

• realised i needed some time off

• started reading

• disconnected from any social media

• started writing another academic paper

• ate a lottt of food

all of these happened within a span of 1.5 months

the road to academia surely is comforting but damn the existential crisis it gives you once in a while

sadly, valentines day does not mean you get a break from studying. still, i had a short break and went out for a mini celebration!

also brought out some of my old poetry where i had drunkenly put lipstick marks to sign them off

so the reason is, in my country, most of the entrance exams have base level maths covering at least 30% of the paper. hence, the reason we have to keep learning and practising mathematics no matter our chosen field of study.

(though i would say i can see the reason for this. maths is pretty helpful and i can see why they have made this a necessary sub)

3 tips on how to actually study. (By a girl who had a perfect SAT score! 🎀)

1) Don't study things you already know.

Exams usually have tons of material you need to remember, so why are you wasting time on basic, simple formulas or words you know? Instead, look through the content page and take note of the topics that you struggle with or still make mistakes on, and study them

2) Plan out what you're going to study

Don't just sit in your chair and open your textbook mindlessly, without any aims or ideas on what to study. Be sure to spend about 5 minutes planning exactly which concepts you want to ace by the end of your study sessions, how many pages you want to finish by the end of the day. This way, you know exactly what your goals and to-do list are, and can track your progress. Plus, this prevents you from overworking and tiring yourself out to the point you burn out!

3) no procrastinating

The minute you reach home, take a shower, eat a snack, and go study. Don't drag it off by saying you'll do it later or that you're tired. Remember that studying is always a privilege, and that the 2 hours spent scrolling on your phone could have been spent on revising the topic you keep complaining you don't understand. Especially if you are a high school student, remember that you only get this chance once. Don't only study after you see a cute tumblr post, study now.
