status: on chapter 4 (20k words) almost done part one!!!

log line: Kenneth is searching for his biological parents with a stolen car and an old photograph. He meets Darcy, a strange boy with no shoes, and the two become quick friends.

specially featuring: the saddest boys in the world, incredibly queer characters, long, yearning stares from across the room.

separated into three to four parts, just depends on how its going. im on part one (strangler fig) but then we got part two (loverboy) and part three (prodigal son)

Last year, this was Kenneth's first day of eleventh grade. 

This year, he drove on a Texan highway, with Darcy sleeping softly by his side. 

And would he trade it for anything? Did he want anything else? Kenneth wanted his family. He wanted his biological parents. He wanted to understand them, he wanted to understand himself, he wanted to understand how the world worked, why it seemed to hate him oh so much. 

He wanted Darcy.

WIP intro - Miracle Boy

genre - literary, coming of age, paranormal, mystery

status - first draft

projected word count - 20k

setting - Joshua Tree National Park, Yucca Valley, Palm Springs

It's the middle of August, the Californian heat thrumming through the desert, and three boys go camping. Two boys come back.

It's inexplainable. Rowan O'Connell somehow leaves and is never found again. The case goes cold within the week. No one knows where this boy is. No one can find a trace of him.

Four years since Rowan O'Connell's disappearance, Mateo Flores would want nothing more than to forget it ever happened. He's freshly nineteen, dealing with far too much on his plate, and it would be much easier if he didn't have to add the memory of his childhood friend haunting him wherever he went.

But when Mateo gets a call from Daniel Marin that Rowan is alive, it sparks a whole other mystery. Because Rowan cant seem to remember what happened to him in those four years, and with all the evidence anyone has its just as likely that he blinked in and out of existence than any other explanation.

As the days go on, more things aren't lining up, and Rowan makes less and less sense, it's unclear if Mateo will ever figure out what happened Rowan.

well that's everything. this story is really inspired by the book Desert Oracle, by Ken Layne, which i saw absolutely everywhere in and around Yucca Valley when i visited. it got me thinking about unexplained disappearances, like the entirely of missing 411, and i started planning a story without meaning to.

Hi! It's been....a while! I've kind of been going on a hiatus on this account indirectly. I've gotten into a tunnel of editing and reediting the same piece, which does not produce much content. However, I'm going to be working on more original things soon, so.... new introduction!

About me:

I go by Bunny. I am 22! I am in undergrad studying English Lit & Drama, and I am (hopefully) going on to MA in writing. I am a disabled writer. I am Deaf, learning BSL, and I have complex mental health problems. My mental illnesses and my Deafness inspire characters that I write.

About my projects:

Cats Are Not Made of Fire: My baby. My first born. A YA about Julian McCool, an extrovert who is entering his final year of high school after spending his summer in psychiatric care. It's a story about friendship, queerness, ambition, and having your teen years taken from you by mental illness, and learning how to grieve the life you lost while preparing yourself for the life you are going to live.

The Fruits of my Labour: My current WIP. It's a ghost story about a young girl, Desdemona, forced to marry the man who hurt her. On the birth of her daughter, a ghost enters their house, and this leads to the disaster of the family, but not her. It's a cathartic story about surviving abuse, and watching an abuser suffer for their actions. :)

I have a bunch of other projects on the go as well, but these are my focuses right now. I'm currently in the ditch where I feel I've grown out of YA, but too young to have any real experience of writing adult fiction. Anyone who is also finding themselves in this ditch are very welcome here.
