For Anyone Who Doesn’t Believe Percy Sees Chiron As A Father Figure

In The Lightning Thief while Percy was still at Yancy academy Percy explains how he had gotten an entire book report/essay off of the internet.

He does this because reading is extremely discouraging with his dyslexia.

He thinks of how if he got caught he would rather face the consequences of plagiarizing (getting his grade taken away and the such) than having to read the book.

His exact words were “Or maybe they realized I got my essay on Tom Sawyer from the internet without ever reading the book and now they were going to take away my grade. Or worse, they were going to make me read the book.” - Page 12, The Lightning Thief

He talks about how it took him an hour to read a mini new article column later in the book (if you were curious about the severity of his dyslexia).

With all of this in mind look at how he tried relentlessly to study for his Latin test the next morning and goes as far to go down and see Mr. Brunner (Chiron) to ask for help.

Percy says he’s never gone to a teacher for help before because he’s never had that type of respect for a teacher before.

He even specifically goes to say how he will go down there to get help and to apologize in advance for him most likely not going to preform well on the exam.

While Percy only knows Chiron as Mr. Brunner he has a personal want to please him solely because how much Percy thought he was a fantastic teacher.

In the first half of the book Percy is only shown wanting to actually please and not disappoint two people, Sally and- oh, who else? Ding, ding, ding, MR. FREAKIN’ BRUNNER.

Percy loves his mother so very much and constantly thinks about her, she’s the only parental figure in his life, and Percy treats Chiron with the same exact respect as he does Sally. Just think about that for minute.

Percy repeatedly does things he wouldn’t do because of how much he disliked them (asking teachers for help and reading)

And Percy treats Chiron like a father figure and has his feelings deeply hurt when he hears Chiron say how him getting expelled may have been for the best.

IT SAYS HE GETS TEARY EYED AND FEELS HIS EYES START TO BURN.

MR. BUNNER WAS LITTERALLY THE ONLY OTHER PARENTAL FIGUREHEAD PERCY WANTED TO IMPRESS BESIDES HIS OWN MOTHER. YES HIS MOTHER.

THIS IS ALL ONLY IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE LIGHTNING THIEF.

Just So You Know The Respect Percy Had for Mr. Brunner (Chiron)

Percy is always describing how much he hates reading and how hard it is because of his dyslexia.

Percy also mentions how he’s never really asked teachers for help nor deeply respected them.

Percy goes out of his way to study and read textbooks for his Latin test (Mr. Brunner’s subject)

When he gets frustrated he doesn’t just give up, but decides to go and ask for help.

He says even if he didn’t get much help he was to apologize to Mr. Brunner for not going to do well on his Latin test.

He does this even after we know how much Percy struggles with reading and studying and the such.

Also note how dyslexia affects memory and how well you retain the knowledge you read (or try to), I know from experience.

The words not only float around for Percy but get out of order and make it extremely difficult to read.

He has shown so much respect for Mr. Brunner when he only knew he was just a teacher.

When Mr. Brunner comments on how his expulsion is “for the best” Percy gets emotional.

It is said how his eyes stung and that he was trembling

He was getting emotional because the man he had looked up to and respected so much and believed in him had seemingly given up on him.

Mr. Brunner meant so much to Percy, and Chiron still does but just think, just think how he only knew him as the teacher who believed in him and encouraged him. Percy respected that man through and through. Even before he was a centaur and he was a halfblood.

-Which was really quite amazing considering both are stubborn and bull headed

Honestly Ravenclaw and Gryffindor are so Shane. Gryffindor is just that fearless person that mocks ghosts and Ravenclaw shuts everything down with straight up facts. No evidence? Nope? No proof? None? Well then fUck yA chiCken sTrips because there’s no proof so go F off. Ghosts aren’t real pfff.

Hufflepuff and Slytherin though.... total Ryan. The Slytherins are like the ghost hunters who dream of catching a ghost on tape. Hufflepuffs are just mortified of ghosts and only go because their Slytherin friend is and doesn’t want them to get hurt. Hufflepuffs constantly argue with the Ravenclaw and are like But you saw that??? Right??? So what if it could’ve just fallen it wasn’t moving before!!! A ghost pushed it!!!
