Happy Jegulus day. Here is story.

James skipped lightly down the street, snow falling around him. Sirius was walking behind him, hand in hand with Remus, smiling in a way they only ever did when they were together. They were buying Christmas presents, but mostly they were letting James' parents have a quiet house for a few hours. But that was only half the reason for the smile on James' face.

James knew what it felt like now. He knew what it felt like to be so overcome with love that you couldn't help but smile and, more importantly, he knew what it felt like to know that the other person liked him just as much. It was brand new and astonishing and James thought that maybe the sun was shining a little bit brighter today.

He was in love with Regulus Black. He knew it. And he knew other things, too.

He knew what it was like to be trusted by Regulus Black. He knew how Regulus looked when he was shy, and happy, and annoyed, and nervous, and surprised... He knew how Regulus looked when he'd just been kissed.

He knew what it was like to kiss Regulus. He knew what it was like when Regulus kissed back.

He knew that Regulus kissed like he was asking permission, all gentle and nervous even when he *knew* James wanted to kiss him just as badly.

He knew that Regulus liked winter, and forests, and mornings, and libraries, and that he preferred French to English for some unknown reason.

He knew that Regulus liked James.

James made a decision that day, after seeing Sirius' eyes flicker in the same way Regulus' had a thousand times, that way that meant they missed each other but didn't dare say it.

He was going to get Regulus out. He had to. He would talk to his parents and make a plan and show Regulus that he could make him feel safe. He could do it. He knew he could. By this time next year, Regulus would be coming home with him on the Hogwarts Express. He would taste Euphemia's cooking and hear Fleamont's laugh. He would get to tell Sirius how much he missed him, and he would get to be himself, and...

And he wouldn't be a Death Eater. James wouldn't let that happen. He couldn't. He couldn't become an Order member knowing that Regulus could be hiding behind any one of those masks.

Yes, James thought to himself as he wrapped the astronomy book later that day, he would save Regulus.

He just needed time.

One time, the slytherin skittles all accidentally micro-dosed love potion (thx Pandora <3), and literally the only ones who acted normal were Barty and Evan bc they were already hardcore crazy in love.

But everyone else...

Dorcas wouldn't stop reaching out to touch Marlene's hair to play with and run her fingers through and had to eventually be partially restrained when she wouldn't let go.

Pandora kept presenting empty cups of soggy tea leaves to Xenophilius while side eyeing Lily, whom she kept trying to rub down with various crystals.

Regulus just stared unblinking at James all day and needed to be led everywhere and have notes taken for him bc he just was not capable of higher brain function if James was anywhere near him.

The fanfic writer urge to make the marauders era a mcu series… like obviously Remus would be Spiderman but I’m thinking Regulus could be his Gwen—Uh I mean MJ… and James could be Cap, Sirius could be Iron Man.
