Hey Chocolates,
If you’ve ever followed my blog or browsed through it, you might remember these jeans from one of my first posts. They were basic, high-waisted mom jeans that I got from Goodwill. I’ve been seeing the new super distressed trend and wanted to try it out. I’m a little cheap/a broke college student so I couldn’t see myself paying $50+ for a pair of jeans that barely has any material. I decided I’d use my Goodwill jeans to give the trend a try. After a day of cutting with scissors, washing and drying the jeans, there they were.
I thought I’d try the fishnet-under-ripped-jeans trend, too. I had this outfit in my head for a long time, but never got around to ordering a pair of fishnets from Amazon. So, I went into just about every store in my college town’s mall to find a pair. Luckily, Spencer’s had some. I made sure the rest of my outfit was basic since my pants and fishnets were already doing a lot. I think I really want some white fishnets (which I’m sure I’ll have to buy on Amazon).
Are you into the super distressed jeans trend? Comment below!
Crop Top: Forever 21, $5.90 | Jeans: Goodwill | Fishnets: Spencer’s, $12.99 | Booties: Charlotte Russe

#OOTD: Fall Colors

Hey Chocolates,
For some reason, I’ve fallen in love with fall this year. I take a few more seconds to admire the leaves on my way to class, and I jump at the opportunity to wear a cardigan or light jacket. This time, I decided to color block with fall colors.
Honestly, I usually don’t buy colored pants. But I was shopping at H&M this past summer and these stood out to me. I really never see many…

A Change of Pace: Why I Went Short
A Change of Pace: Why I Went Short
Hey Chocolates,
I had been thinking about a short haircut for a while. Everything about going short yelled bold, confident and gorgeous to me. Regardless of how much I thought I gave it, I never gave it the chance until now.
Since I was young and getting perms/relaxers, my hair had been well down my back. After so many years of getting perms, my hair got shorter, but never above my shoulders. I…

Hey Chocolates,
I couldn’t wait to wear my first fall look! As much as I enjoyed summer, I was ready for the heat to die down. My last online shopping session had me even more eager to start wearing sweaters and other fall clothing. I knew with fall quickly approaching, I also had to step my game up with some new boots. Of course I have a few pairs of casual boots, but I wanted something more. Since I’m signed up for emails from Lola Shoetique, CICI HOT and MakeMeChic just to name a few, I kept seeing thigh high boots with a clear heel. The style was literally everywhere, and I took that as a sign to buy them.
So I checked out those websites, plus a few UK sites, to see who could offer the best deals for this style (I love shopping but I’m pretty cheap). For some reason, I decided I would buy two pairs of shoes—one ankle boot and one thigh high boot. MakeMeChic offered a 30 percent off deal for the first order, and shipping was free over a certain amount. How could I pass that up?
Once I received the boots, I waited until the first day it hit about 60 degrees to wear them to class. Honestly, me wearing heels to class is a rare occasion, but I loved them so much so I had to. I wanted the rest of my outfit to be simple, so I paired the thigh highs with an olive crew neck and some high-waist jeans.
Chocolates, are you into the clear heel/thigh high boot trend? Let’s talk about it!
Crew Neck: Forever 21, $12 (sold out) | Bottoms: Plato’s Closet Bloomington, $12 | Shoes: MakeMeChic, $49.90

Forever 21 has been my favorite store since I started high school. It has a large selection and most importantly, cheap prices. So, I signed up for the newsletter forever ago. But since I’m a broke college student, I usually delete the emails without reading them.
I’m not sure what got into me last Sunday, but I got a Mystery Deal email from Forever 21 and thought I’d see how much of a discount I could receive. It was all a trap from there. I had about $300 worth of items in my cart, but I didn’t have the courage—nor the funds—to buy all that. So I left the cart and came back to it two days later. Of course by then, my deal expired. I decided I’d make a purchase anyway. I reasoned with myself that I really needed some royal blue and gold clothing for my sorority, plus fall clothes because mine are outdated. I showed my roommate/line sister Yusra and my friend Kennedy the items in my cart, then made my choices. The total was $165 including shipping (a little up there), but I love everything I bought. So here’s how I’m coming for fall 2016:
#gallery-0-6 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-6 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-6 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-6 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
This Drawstring Utility Jacket is the perfect addition to a simple outfit.
Seen this flap pocket mini skirt before, had to get it.
A classic boxy top can be dressed up or down.
I had to get in on the corduroy mini skirt trend.
I’m all for a dramatic slay with the longline notched vest.
Crew necks=essential.
This ribbed knit cropped sweater is royal blue…and did I mention cropped? Two of my favorite things.
A French terry knit pullover is a basic that can go with almost anything.
I’m here for the culotte jumpsuit trend! And it was only $10.
I find that I don’t have enough—or any—casual dresses. So I thought the Mock Neck A-Line Dress would be great for my closet.
I’m not sure if this faux suede mini skirt is a fall color, but I’m doing it anyways.

Mellow With a Hint of Color #OOTD
Mellow With a Hint of Color #OOTD

Hey Chocolates,
I know it has been quite a few weeks since my last #ootd post. I just moved into my college apartment a few weeks ago and I’m getting adjusted to senior year (it’s been a busy one already). So, I sincerely apologize. Now, I’m back to basics and shooting with my friend, fellow blogger and Inside Magazine colleague Feyi Alufohai.
So, about this #ootd. I’ve always loved long,…

I Do It for the Culture
I Do It for the Culture
Some people probably think fashion blogging is a waste of time. They may think fashion blogs lack substance or any real subject matter. They may even think there is nothing to say about fashion, especially black fashion.
I am a fashion blogger because I think the culture that’s shown within black fashion is often overlooked. We’re not usually in Harper’s Bazaar, or Vogue, or Elle. We usually…
