A Trans James Potter Story

Chapter 5

James was pacing around their dorm room. “I need to get him back,” He stated. He had been like this for a week.  He called it brainstorming while the others called it interrupting their studying. “I just want to break his big fat nose,” He said. 

“We know mate,” Sirius said, extending his words. 

“The pranks gotta have something to do with it,” James told the group. He pushed a hand through his hair, which was somewhat of a nervous tick for James. Constantly adjusting his hair.

“Snot then,” Remus said casually.

“Lupin you bloody genius!” James cheered. It seemed so obvious to him now. You think embarrassing and nose- you should be thinking snot. James sometimes had a hard time seeing what was right in front of him. He was what some would call oblivious. “We need his nose to pour snot, big globs of it,” James spoke mostly to himself. 

“We could use water,” Remus said, standing up and starting to pace with James. Remus didn’t enjoy studying James knew that. Sirius was a bit of a perfectionist when it came to his marks, Peter wanted his parents to be proud of him, and James could get high marks without even trying. 

James looked in awe of Remus. “What there has gotta be a water charm,” Remus told him. 

“That slime could definitely use some water,” Sirius joined in.

“To the library!” James declared. 

Everyone put away their supplies and homework, then they made their way to the library. Lily Evans was there accompanied by some other Gryffindor girls. Mary MacDonald, and Marlene McKinnon, who he made a mental note to check in on later. There was no sign of Snape. They pulled out a book filled with different charms and started flipping through the pages. 

“The water-making charm,” Peter pointed out. He wasn’t as into the pranking as the other guys but still was happy to be included. 

“Ah that shoots out from the tip of the wand though,” James told them.

“We’ll just have to modify it then,” Sirius said. Remus and Peter looked at him puzzled. 

“Genius, bloody brilliant!” James shook Sirius by his shoulders. 

“How would we do that?” Remus asked the two boys. 

Sirius explained what a spell modifier was to the group and how with the right word they could potentially make this work. Sirius was always good at theory but when it came time to perform he got shaky and nervous. Remus was the opposite way. 

Eventually they figured out how to make the water go where they were pointing and not out of the wand. 

“We’ll just have to point at his nose,” Sirius said proudly. He was the one to do the majority of the research. 

“Thank merlin we have a big target,” James joked.

They headed back to their dorm to practice their new spell. 

“Who’s gonna be the target?” Peter asked naively.

“Not it!” James called out. Then Sirius, then Remus.

All Peter could let out was an “Awe man,”.

James confidently decided to try first. But all he got was a little dribble coming out of the tip of his wand. While Peter was relieved James internally cursed at himself. He couldn’t help but question what he was doing wrong and why he wasn’t good enough. 

Sirius walked up next. He got a little farther than James, but it was still just a little spray.

Remus attempted next. He managed to actually hit Peter, much to his dismay. He casted again this time it didn’t come out of the tip of his wand but rather, out Peter's nose. While it was just a dribble James and Sirius cheered, they shook him and jumped up and down. They laughed while calling him the ‘Greatest wizard of all time,’ but James was kicking himself. He felt like the weakest wizard of all time. 

He tried to find comfort in the fact that if they had let Pete try maybe he would’ve done worse. But it was useless. He couldn’t stand seeing others be better than him. He wanted to be the best constantly.

summary: Remus makes a request of Lily

“Evans?” Remus asked chewing his lip. He was extremely nervous because in his mind he was going to make an odd requests.

“Yes Remus?” Lily responded, not looking up from her book. This was normal for her. Actually according to Lily she was a great multitasker.

Remus looked at his hands, he was picking at the corners of his fingertips. He would often yank and yank until they started bleeding. “Did you uhm,” he stuttered “Did you bring any makeup to Hogwarts?” he asked.

Lily looked up and him raising an eyebrow, “Most of the girls did,” She paused. “So yes,” She answered.

Remus simply nodded his head, he went to turn around feeling a tad judged and embarrassed, but before he could Lily said. “If you want me to do your make up don’t be shy to ask,” she laughed while saying it, but she was serious.

“Actually I was gonna ask,” Lupin admitted. “I wanted you to cover up my scars, see what I look like without ‘em,” He mumbled, his rough accent that had been fading since he started Hogwarts returning.

Lily closed her book and stood up, dragging Remus by the hand up to her dormitory. She sat him down in at her vanity, then went off. He heard her rummaging through several bags.

“I don’t think you are any of our shades,” She told him, multiple foundation bottles in hand. “So I’ll have to mix these,” She explained dabbing a little bit on her hand, then and little bit of the next one.

She mixed them up until she got where she wanted. She applied very lightly and gently all around Remus’ face. After a while she was done.

“Ta da!” she cheered stepping away so he could share himself in the mirror. He inched closer, grabbing at his face, puzzled. He didn’t say anything until Lily prompted. “What d’ya think?”

“I mean I look nice, but not like me,” he answered. Lily nodded as if she was expected that answer.

“your scars are special Remus,” she told him already pulling out her makeup wipes.

“Thanks Lils,” he mumbled.

Just because they made him unique, doesn’t mean he didn’t get insecure about the way he looked. But without them he felt fake. They were apart of his identity now, he couldn’t change that. He wasn’t sure he even wanted to change it anymore. Maybe he could become comfortable as he was.

A Trans James Potter Story

Chapter 4

James woke up the next morning a little nervous to say the least. Yes, he had read most of his textbooks cover to cover for a bit of summer reading, but this was the real deal. He had scarfed down his breakfast, even faster then Remus who admittedly was a messy eater. They all had potions together that morning with the Slytherins. James hurriedly got up once he was done eating. “Come on,” He shouted behind him, realizing only Remus had gotten up. Sirius and Peter groaned and took their last few bites of food before getting up.

They made their way down to the dungeon. It was a bit spooky in James’ opinion. They went inside the classroom to see a few other early arrivals. There was a girl with braids with her head in the potions textbook, that greasy Slytherin boy who was always following Lily around like a lost puppy, and Lily. He decided now was his chance to talk to her because the slimy boy was talking to the professor. 

“Can I sit with you?” He asked, putting on his most masculine voice, puffing out his chest a little. 

“No uhm Severus is sitting with me,” She answered, not even bothering to look up.

“You really want to sit with that grease ball?” Lily scowled up at him.

“That ‘grease ball’ happens to be my friend so find somewhere else to sit,” She told him harshly. James took a step back, hesitating to leave the situation. But after a moment he turned around to go find Sirius. 

“Rejection is tough huh mate,” Sirius laughed out. James side eyed him. James was never good with rejection or any type of criticism. This might be because he was spoiled by his parents. He was their miracle child and he could do no wrong. 

Maybe he wasn’t masculine enough, maybe girls could just sense he was also born a girl. The fact that maybe he was being rude never crossed his mind. 

He worried and worried until the professor started his lecture. The only things of note that happened were the potions safety quiz and the homework being an introductory essay. The Slytherins would always snicker after a Gryffindor would ask or answer a question, especially a blonde haired boy who was sitting next to the Slytherin girl who arrived early with braids.

That piece of snot Severus was taking furious notes on whatever the teacher said, James and his group of boys made fun of him the whole class. Remus had trouble writing with a quill. He complained about why they couldn’t just use ‘pens’. Must be a muggle writing utensil. 

When leaving potions Severus knocked into James with his shoulder, causing him to stumble a bit. 

“Oi what the hell is your problem!” James shouted after him, bursting into the dungeons corridor. Severus didn’t react or turn around. So James grabbed his shoulder and pulled him to face him. “I said what’s your problem,” He said, keeping his grip on Severus’ shoulder. Severus pushed him away and didn’t even dignify James with a response.

“Let’s go Lily,” He said in James’ general direction. James scowled at the pair, already becoming jealous. 

“Whatever Snivellus,” James called out after them, insulting Snape's rather prominent nose. He was tempted to go after them but Remus got in front of him.

“Just leave it,” Remus told him.

Sirius however gave him a pat on the back.

“Whatever, let's just go to herbology,” James said, shaking him off.

A Trans James Potter Story

Chapter 3

When they made their way to the common room the 4 boys decided to room together. James could stop holding his breath when the stairs allowed him to go up with the rest of the boys. He knew it, he knew he was a real boy. Their new uniforms were placed neatly on their beds, 2 uniforms each. James double and triple checked that he had trousers instead of a skirt and he in fact did. James pushed his trunk against the end of his bed. He opened it up checking on his school supplies. He had begged his mother to let him get his wand early, and he had learned how to roll it from finger to finger and around his thumb. Just little tricks.

Remus had brought a couple of muggle books, he allowed each of them to borrow one. He helped Peter find his “missing” wand about five times before Sirius let out a yawn. It was getting rather late and their first classes started the next morning. He had potions first thing in the morning after breakfast.

“Alright lads let's head to bed,” James said, flopping back onto his bed. He took off his round glasses and set them on the nightstand next to him. The order of them from left to right went Peter, James, Sirius, then Remus. 

They all said their goodnights but James was restless. He hadn’t gotten the chance to take to the redhead, no to Lily. She headed up early while everyone else had been socializing in the common room. He was a little disappointed to say the least. Although he had never really talked to girls his age anyway. Besides Marlene but she behaved like a boy anyway, she had all brothers. 

Sometimes James longed for a sibling. He felt so lonely in his home. He was bored all the time. All he could do was read, school, and talk to his mum. His father was a busy business man always off on trips or working long hours. But he always managed to make time for family, especially on weekends. 

“Any of the girls look good?” James asked, staring up at the ceiling. 

“I thought we were going to bed,” Peter whined. 

“That Mary MacDonald was pretty,” Sirius responded, “What do you already fancy a girl James?” Sirius laughed.

“No, I just think Lily Evans is pretty,” James told him defensively. She had beautiful green eyes, not many freckles for a redhead. 

“The redhead aye?” Sirius said, raising his eyebrows at him. “What about you Remus?” Sirius inquired. 

“Nah,” Remus said simply. James heard him turn away. 

“Best we actually get to bed huh?”

“I suppose, night James,”
