‘You can’t keep playing with my emotions like this, Dr Mia Thompson.’ It was Miles’ turn to pass her a breathy whisper. His voice was low and growly and his words were meant for only the researcher’s ears.
(I might have never written this chapter due to the brief epiphany I had but gladly I realized I am a simp and it would take me some considerable amount of time to just move on from this fictional man.)

‘You are going nowhere without an answer, Doc.’ The hot breath of Colonel Miles Quaritch fell on Mia's ears making her body wither violently.
Yup, it is going to be that kind of chapter.

At this point, I can’t tell if I am deeply in love with this character or if I need therapy. Anyway, the new chapter is out.

His Forbidden Angel (Avatar Colonel Miles Quaritch/Na'vi Original Character)
Tumblr media
An electrifying sensation ran through my body as I lay in darkness. I was no stranger to dark and cramped spaces as they give you tough training in the Military if you were ever to get captured by the enemy. The funny feeling was not the result of the strange feeling or the restricted space but rather my presence here. I tried to relax my muscles and ignore the unfamiliar feeling as I closed my eyes like I was instructed, but it all felt wrong. I wasn’t supposed to be here. Nor was I supposed to wake up in an alien body in a few moments. As weird as it might sound, it was the truth. Two years ago, Parker Selfridge asked for my DNA to create an Avatar; which he profusely stated was for emergencies only. Ironically the emergency arrived quite conveniently for Parker when one of the morons in the science division was killed back on Earth. I had made it clear from the beginning that I would not be part of this circus but the last words always belong to the one with the buck and hence I lay here inside a link bed with no choice but to link my consciousness with an Avatar body.
As soon as the thoughts dusted away from my mind, my body experienced a sudden pull. It felt as if my body had been dropped off a cliff. A jolt of strong electric current ran through my nervous system. I could feel my muscles stiffening and my breath turning erratic yet there was nothing I could do to stop it. Every thought and memory seemed to be running far away from me as I kept on falling into the deep pit of nothingness.
Then it all stopped. All of a sudden, my body felt heavy as the feeling of weightlessness had faded. I felt heavier than ever. Opening my eyes in hopes of seeing the darkness of the inside of the link bed but the only thing that met me were the blinding lights that pierced my eyes. Wincing at the sudden pain that erupted in my brain, I tried opening my eyes again, this time cautiously. The surroundings materialized around me at a painfully slow pace. To my surprise, I was no longer in the dark captivity of the link bed but rather in a clinically bright room. Sitting up, I clenched my fist in order to attack anything hostile. I had been briefed about this experience yet it is easier said than done. Waking up in a surrounding that was not the one you had lost consciousness was one of the most dreadful experiences any marine could go through. My mind acknowledged a faint mumbling yet it was hard to identify the sounds. It took a few moments but my mind eventually returned to its vigilant state as I saw a handful of scientists swarming around me. Oddly, they appeared so little. And then my gaze landed on my arm. Dark and light blue stripes ran across the length of my arm making me look down at my body. Every inch of my body was covered in blue and then the realization hit me. Heaving a sigh of disappointment, I let my muscles relax. I was finally in an Avatar body.
*
The sound of the SA-2 Samson’s rotor blades was deafening in itself but for a Na’vi, the sound was no less than torture. And to add to the misery, his company consisted of two annoying SciOps who couldn’t keep their mouth shut about some neural link between the trees on Pandora. I on the other hand opted to check the weapon in hand for the safety lock. After about fifteen minutes, the pilot landed near a clearing outside the dense forest. Jumping off the chopper, I clutched the firearm tightly, my finger in close proximity to the trigger. Being in a forest where uncountable predators roamed, reminded me of my very first day on this moon. The scars I got that day still adorn the right side of my head. It's not that I didn’t like a scar but that Viperwolf had managed to tarnish my good looks.
‘You’re coming or not, Soldier?’ A shrill voice fell into my ears pulling me out of my thoughts. Looking around, I found the scientist standing with her colleague, calling for me. Scanning the area once more, I signalled for the pilot to take off and followed the lead of the SciOps.
Although it had only been thirty minutes since we arrived in the forest, I had already started regretting the decision to say yes. Dr Grace Augustine had not once cared to shut her mouth and kept blabbering about the same Neural Network and at this point, I might as well just put a bullet in her rather than one of the hellish creatures that this moon had given birth to. Finally, after another ten minutes of torture, the SciOps halted and started taking samples from the roots of a tree. Being in their company was enough of a pain in the ass but being in their company on Pandora was a punishment worse than death to me. I could not for the life of me understand the awe these researchers felt on seeing this hell hole of a moon. All this moon had to offer was unbreathable air, a hostile population and noxious animals. A disgusted frown made its way towards my face as I glanced around for any threat. The rustling of leaving a few feet away grabbed my attention. It was obvious a creature had taken notice of our presence here.
‘I need to check for the perimeter. You two just try not to die.’ I announced, my gaze still fixed upon the shadowy figure that had just retreated. I did not take a step until I heard an affirmative response from the scientist who was engrossed in their work. Following the sound, I kept my weapon ready. My face had already suffered the consequences of nonchalance in this hellhole – not again.
The constant rustling of leaves, and predator approaching made it almost impossible to track the animal but I refused to get lost on this moon. The rustling of the leaves got louder as a small figure finally materialized in front of me. A small creature was lying in front of him lying on his back, visibly struggling to straighten itself. It appeared to resemble a Centrosaurus – a dinosaur found back on Earth, which went extinct millions of years ago, with the flare of Pandora. I looked down at the little creature, lowering my gun, this small fellow was incapable of harming anyone, I could tell that from the small wines it made as it writhed to roll over. Although my mind told me not to go anywhere near that animal, the little humanity left in me urged me to help the little fella. Giving into the impulse, I went down on my knees and pushed over the little fellow so it was standing on its four small feet. A squeaking sound came from the Centrosaurus-looking creature. Scooting over, the being rubbed his head against my knees affectionately. The peculiar response forced a chuckle to escape my lips as I looked down at the Pandorian alien.
‘And I thought you only like shooting those poor creatures down.’ A smug comment broke the comforting silence of the moment. Turning around, I saw the face of Dr Augustine with a self-righteous look on her face. Her assistant stood beside her with a look of bafflement on his face.
Standing up quickly, I cleared my throat.
‘I might hate this hellhole but I ain’t no monster. Anyway, he just needed a little push.’ I groaned imperturbably.
Before the researcher could have made another mirthful remark, a thundering sound assaulted our ears. I could feel the vibrations of the sound on the skin causing me to tighten my hold on the AVR–30. In no time, several hefty creatures came into sight, marching at us at full speed. Those creatures resembled the little one standing near him. It was his pack. The tsunami of creatures came to a halt about 15 feet away from us. Instinctively I pointed my gun towards them, which produced a brash and belligerent roar from them.
‘Don’t. Sturmbeest are not the aggressive type!’ Grace's voice travelled over the tense air.
‘What do you want me to do then? They seem pretty mad for some reason!’ I shouted back, my gaze still stuck on the pack.
‘Obviously, they will be mad! You have their child!’
Considering the statement for a moment, I passed a quick glance at my company. Grace despite being his sworn enemy had a look of concern in her eyes. We have never been on the same page about anything. She wanted to explore more of this deadly moon and I as the Head of Security could not allow such suicidal missions.
‘I was just helping the little one here! Take him back, I don’t know what to do with him either!’ I shouted over to the Sturmbeests. My plea of peace was not accepted because I could see them preparing themselves to charge at me, all at once. I raised my weapon, forcing Grace to yell ‘Don’t’ once more but I had no other choice. I don’t want to die but if I had to then I ain’t going to go without a fight.
Unexpectedly, the Sturmbeests started backing down. I hadn’t fired my gun yet but the alien creatures seemed to be terrified of something and I was sure it wasn’t me. The alien Centrosaurus made a whiney sound as it retreated, the little one following his pack’s trails. His little legs failed to catch up to his larger counterparts but I was relieved to see him out of any danger now.
I sighed while turning, lowering my gun expecting to see an amazed look on the SciOps’ face but all I saw was a petrified look clouded over her face. Muttering a small oh shit, I turned further to see a creature straight out of a Lovecraftian horror. Ironically, I was no stranger to this abomination. A Viperwolf. The enormous creature released a threatening hiss as it took an intimidating step towards me.
‘Damn it! Should I shoot this bastard?!’ I hollered for Dr Augustine.
‘Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!’ The SciOps yelled together.
Pulling the trigger might have been an unwise choice for I undoubtedly enraged the visceral creature. Seeing the Viperwolf charging towards me, I ran but not without exhausting a whole round of bullets on it. Running away from a predator who sat on the top of the food chain was not child’s play. I ran for like an eternity without feeling the need to stop but at times that son of a bitch almost bit off my head. The adrenaline rush through my veins helped me stay ahead of the animal but it was not enough. Coincidentally, my gaze landed on a tree cave, deep enough to fit this enormous body of mine. Without a second thought, I lunged into the darkness.
In the darkness of the tree cave, I finally took a deep breath. My lungs were burning but I chose to keep my breathing hushed. Reloading the AVR-30, I waited. It would be foolish to step out and expose yourself to the predator who was on your trail. Ironically, I did not have to wait much longer for the sound of wood breaking, to pierce my ears like a grenade. The Viperwold had just burst its head from the wooden wall, his jaw snapping for anything to hold. I fired another round of bullets upon the beast yet it did not even flinch. Calming my nerves, I shot the wood to my right in hopes that the thickness of the wood would be less. Finally, something worked in my favour as the layer of wood turned out to be slim and a small opening was created by the bullets. Squeezing myself through the small opening forced me to take off the tactical bag pack. The beast deciphered my plan quicker than I had anticipated, which forced me to run before I could have pulled my bag pack which had all my ammunition and other weapons.
I ran and I ran like the devil was chasing me. And my luck laughed at me because everything that could go wrong was going wrong. I could not change my path for on every turn a new predator waited to turn me into their dinner, so I ran straight until I couldn’t. I could see both the dead end and my death. As I stopped a few feet before the cliff, I peered below. Water – which was a good sign but not good enough for I did not know the depth of the river below. The ugly baster was closing on me and a decision was to be made. If I stay and try to defend myself the result would be certain – death and that too a painful one. On the other hand, if I jumped into the river there was an equal chance of me dying if the water turned out to be shallow or I could survive to see another day. The conclusion was simple. Jump. And so, I did.
*
My clothes were still wet, I had no ammunition plus, I had lost contact with my SciOps friends. The only catch is that I am still alive but I am trying not to be too cheerful about that for the sun is setting and no one from RDA is to stay outside the base once it turns dark. Fatefully, this very strict rule was made by me and it made me laugh but there was no humour in my laughter. I took every step with caution for I had no ammo to spare and also because I had no plans of dying tonight. It was certain that Grace and her assistant must have left the forest now and the only thing I could do now was to survive. Not because I had a desire to live but because this body of mine cost Parker five billion. I rechecked the magazine once more to find the same ten bullets that were there fifteen minutes ago. An eerie feeling was growing on me as I walked further for halting was not an option until I was certain that no harm could occur to this body.
I had walked far away from the river by the time the sun was completely gone from the sky, leaving a purplish hue behind; but I had no time to appreciate its beauty. Fortunately, I had managed to create a torch from the few supplies I had stored in my cargo pants. And so, with a torch in the left hand and an AVR-30 in the right one, I walked deeper into the forest. The bioluminescence of the plants and animals that surrounded him was beautiful. Despite the darkness, there was an angelic glow to this moon, making it appear less diabolic at night.
I had walked far enough to reach a section of the forest which was simply too magnificent to be described in words. The bioluminescent glow was ethereal, almost divine. So enthralled by the beauty, my grip on the gun almost loosened. I reached a clearing near a tree which stood tall, it was not bioluminescent pigment which ignited it but it appeared it glowed on its own, like it was emitting some light from heaven. Still, I refused to loosen the grip on the gun. Stepping into the clearing, it felt like I had stepped into a whole new world. A soft yet beautiful sound of humming fell into my ears. The sound was magnetic. I couldn’t stop myself from stepping towards the direction from which it came.
Walking around the tree, I found a sight I was not expecting. A female Na’vi sat there, oblivious to my very existence as she played with one of her braids. She hummed something in her native language, which I couldn’t grasp. Involuntarily, the gun in my hand lowered and so did the torch. She appeared to me like an angel, singing for the depraved people of Earth. For a long moment, I just stood there, listening to her humming. Her lean body fit into the description of a perfect Na’vi female, but it was her face that sucked the breath out of my lungs. Her features were soft and gentle while her eyes were like pools of yellow tourmaline; profound and otherworldly. I stared at her for a long moment before the sudden sound of rustling pulled both of us out of our trance. The girl was on her feet as soon as her gaze landed on me.
‘Pesu are ngenga?!’ The girl demanded. Her voice, just like her features was soft and calming.
Although I had no idea what she said, my guess was she wanted to know I was for she had just pulled out a blade and pointed it towards me. I would have felt threatened if not for the clumsy manner in which she held the weapon.
‘I am Colonel Miles Quaritch and I mean no harm. I am just lost.’ I said in a soothing voice. I had no intention of scaring her any further.
‘Nga lu ftu nefä tsatseng, nga?’ The girl asked as her lean figure pointed towards the sky.
Seeing her felt like watching a French movie without subtitles. I could tell she was asking me something but I couldn’t tell what it was.
‘Yeah, I am from another planet.’ I affirmed pointing my finger towards the sky, hoping she was asking me about Earth.
Something about what I just said might have upset her for she stepped forward as she placed the dagger back in its scabbard. The female barely reached my shoulder and so she had to pull on my bicep to lower my hand. She scanned my fingers for a long moment before stepping away again. The seconds for which her skin came in contact with mine sent a jolt of electricity through my body. Her skin was delicate to the touch, just like he had expected.
‘Sa'nok Ewya… You are from the sky…’ She whispered. A great sense of relief washed over my body as I heard those words from her mouth. At least she can understand what I am saying.
‘Yes, yes, I am from Earth.’ I added, in hopes that it would make her feel better. ‘By the way, do you by any chance know a place I can sleep for tonight?’ I asked in hopes that she might not be as hostile towards us as her people. The girl passed me a perplexed look as if trying to comprehend what had just come out of my lips. Before she could respond, a roar tore through the fabric of comforting silence. Instinctively, I turned towards the direction of the roar and pulled the girl behind me.
It was that damn Viperwolf who had somehow managed to track me down. I could hear a gasp escaping the lips of the Na’vi girl.
‘Don’t worry, I’ll not let that son of bitch touch you.’ I said as gave her a side glance. Somehow the fear that I saw in her eyes gave me the strength to charge towards the beast. Miraculously, I was able to punch the Viperwolf’s eyes with the torch, blinding it for a significant amount of time. The animal fell to its side, shivering violently as it rubbed its eyes. Without wasting a second, I emptied the magazine on the belly of the creature, which produced a significant amount of blood. All those years ago, the Viperwolf gave him a hideous scar but also taught him how to kill the most vicious predator of Pandora.
I turned towards the girl to find a horrified look cast over her face. But there was no fear in her eyes but sadness. She was sad? I pondered but I had no time to waste, so I sprinted towards her. In a fluid motion, I slipped my hand to her waist pulled the dagger out of the scabbard and returned to the beast which was now reduced to a whimpering pile of mass. I stabbed the best in the heart remorselessly and I did countless times before I was certain that every last bit of life had left his being.
We both stayed that way for a few moments, heavy silence clouded us. I had killed a lot of people in my lifetime but for the first time, I felt guilty. Something inside told me, this was not supposed to happen in front of her eyes. Finally, I stood and walked towards the girl, who stood still, rooted to her spot. She was not breathing and I could that from the lack of rise and fall of her chest.
‘Breath.’ I said firmly. My words did work for her gaze was no longer stuck on the beast’s motionless body but instead her gaze fiddled between my bloody hands and my face. ‘I had to kill that bastard or he would have killed us.’ I added vainly hoping the words would reassure the girl.
‘Oe owe tirengop tsonta nga.’ She whispered faintly. I was about to ask for translation but before my mind could formulate words to be spoken, I felt a very tender skin pressed against my lips. The girl no longer appeared horrified, instead, she looked awed by my shoulder. Narrowly eyeing my shoulder, I found an outlandish thing floating over my berm. The small seed-like creature had several strands pouring out of its head and it glowed like nothing I had ever laid my eyes upon.
‘Atokirina'.’ Breathed the girl as she looked up into my eyes again, this time there was a hint of hope in those deep orbs of hers.
I was endeared to ask her what that strange creature was but it vanished as quickly as it had materialized. Frustratingly, another roaring call intruded our conversation. I turned pulling her behind me again; the bloody knife ready to defend us but gladly these intruders might not try to kill us this time.
Ten Na’vi people stood before them, each riding a horse-like creature. Their arrows were pointed towards my chest. One of them – a male who appeared to be the leader of the group got off his horse. There was a certain air of authority to this man. He was as tall as me and was toned, while scars covered his body.
‘Lu aynga eyawr, Rayäzämeo?’ Demanded the man as he tried to get a better look at the girl.
‘Oe lu hìno.’ Rayäzämeo replied, stepping aside and making her way towards the man who scanned her from head to toe as his right hand clutched her arm.
‘Po fmi ne pung nga?’ The man demanded again, this time there was anger in his voice as his gaze shifted towards me.
‘He saved ma life, Tsu'tey.’ Rayäzämeo said as she stepped in front of me as if trying to protect me from her people.
‘This sky demon saved you life!’ Tsu’tey roared in disbelief.
‘The dead tìterkup is lying in front of you.’ The girl said. Her voice was still soft but her tone was laced with defensiveness.
The leader of the small convoy grunted in disbelief but accepted Rayäzämeo’s words nonetheless.
‘You shouldn’t be here.’ Tsu’tey hissed in a low voice trying to divert the topic away from the dead beast and me.
‘Sa'nok Ewya called for me.’ Replied the girl silently as she stared directly into the yellow eyes of the warrior. Tsu’tey did not rebut the statement as he took a step back.
‘We are going back to Tsray.’ Announced the warrior as he towed Rayäzämeo’s lean frame with him, towards his horse-like creature.
‘This warrior must come with us.’ Rayäzämeo announced as she stopped right on her track.
The Na’vi convoy fixed her with a look of utter bafflement.
‘He is sky demon. We do not trust them, Rayäzämeo!’ Hissed Tsu’tey.
‘Atokirina' chose him.’ The young girl spoke with sincerity that caused the warrior to be shunned to silence.
Wordlessly, Tsu’tey nodded towards one of his men who then climbed off his horse and walked towards me. The leader, on the other hand, slid his hand around Rayäzämeo’s waist helped her onto the horse’s back and then proceeded to climb the horse himself. For some unexplainable reason, I did not like it and so did Rayäzämeo who appeared a little stiff as Tsu’tey’s skin came in contact with hers. The other Na’vi on the other hand tied a rope around my wrist and there was nothing that I could do. Going against a band of ten warrior Na’vi was not a wise move and so I did what I despised the most. I surrendered.
The final chapter has me sobbing i feel so bad for Mia 😭 i enjoyed your entire fic and i have grown to adore mia sm. i love human quaritch fics but they’re so hard to find especially one that’s so well written then i stumbled across your fic and it is just amazing
also, do you plan on writing more human quaritch fics? Just a suggestion but i would love one where Quaritch is given an army avatar and the oc is an actual Navi kinda like Jake and Neytiri’s situation but more angsty
Sorry for making you cry but thanks a lot for giving time to this story, it means a lot. Well I don't have any idea for more human Quaritch stories at this moment but I'll surely write it once I find something interesting. And as for the other suggestion for sure I would love to write it and I will try my best to get it published soon. By the way, do you prefer a oneshot Or a whole story with multiple chapters?

i really enjoyed reading your series but i am fine with whatever you are most comfortable with !! one shot or series is all fine with me (i just hope it’s long) 🩵 but i would love to see quaritch’s internal conflict with himself if he’s an avatar (not a recom) and falls for a navi woman. because he’s still human and the betrayal she’d feel if she found out he wasn’t actually a navi… omg hopefully lots of angst with a happen ending !!
Thanks for the great idea. I'll try my best to write something that you would like to read.
