Hey y’all 😎
I am happy to say the two candidates for this week’s poetry contest have been chosen! Those candidates being @in-your-wall-s and @arwenakaaragorn ! I truly loved both of theirs pieces! However, of course, the true winner isn’t up to me. Below are the two poems, one after another. Blow that, there is a poll.
Please, read each poem before voting in the poll. A winner will be chosen Monday!
Poem #1 by: @in-your-wall-s
How strange is it
That one can love a person so completely
That even in the midst of towering flames
Your little candle is the brightest of them all
How strange is it
That one can be so simply good
That the sea herself dulls in comparison
To your watery eyes
How strange is it
That the earth should collapse
On the day I knew
Without a doubt in my heart
That you deserved the world
When instead you found a lover
And her pile of broken glass
Poem #2 by: @arwenakaaragorn
My love, as the world fades to its quiet end,
You are the reason my soul will transcend.
When the skies surrender, when stars fall apart,
I'll still hold you close, the core of my heart.
The oceans may rise, the heavens may shatter,
But nothing will steal what truly matters.
Your smile is my dawn, your touch my grace,
In your arms, l've found my eternal place.
If this is the last time I gaze at you, Know that my love is infinite and true.
No chaos, no flame, no passage of time, Could break the spell that makes you mine.
So take this gift, my vow, my plea,
You are my forever, my destiny.

(100% credit goes to this week’s poetry contest winner @j-i-poetry )
Astronomy
The crunch still echoes in my psyche
I wonder how it all happened.
Leaving the poor thing on the porch
The door opened and out poured rage.
I wonder what started the fire.
Tripping over the fated tripod, Roaring out more than a warning.
I was shorter than I am now.
I wonder how old I really was.
I loved that telescope, It's cheap eyesight cloudy,
But the moon, oh the moon.
I'd never seen anything more beautiful.
I wonder how many times I'd used it.
Over my father's knee,
Much like breaking sticks for the fire, The plastic tube bent and broke.
It may as well have been a murder.
I'd rarely cried so hard.
I wonder what I could have been.

Eyes
20 years ago we were promised to each other,
Going on 21 the 16th.
As the years have passed,
The idea of our love has grown.
Spending every hour,
Tending to the plant of our love.
We curved together beautifully,
Intertwining our hearts on gloomy days,
And our hearts singing on the good ones.
And those years ago,
When we got married,
I gave such beautiful vows.
I promised my fondness and love would never fade.
And in that moment,
I meant it.
But,
I could never love you past the grave.
For when I look into your eyes,
I can almost see crystal blue ones,
And I’m reminded of a past lover I can never forget.
I know they and I were never meant to be,
The stars were incapable of spelling out love.
However,
Every night,
I pick stars from the night sky,
Fighting through the cuts and scrapes the stars give.
I keep the stars in a music box,
The one you gave me when I was 17.
I do this in hopes one day,
I can write our love in the stars,
And pray you can still read my handwriting.

Poetry Prompt
Write a tragic poem about one lover forcing the other to drink poison wine
Creative Kickstart:
What does the poison smell like? Does it look odd?How does the lover feel as they watch the other drink from the glass? Does the other lover know somehow? What is the weather like? Is there one sided tension? Are emotions running high? Was this an act of hate? Or, somehow, a final act of love? Or, something else entirely?
Let your creative side decide!
(And, as always, feel free to tag me in your work or reblog this post with your poem so I can like and reblog 🖤🖤)

Hey y'all 😎
So!! The two candidates can been chosen for this weeks contest!! I can not put into words how beautiful each and every entry was! And I wish for everyone who entered to try again next time as someone can't win two times in a row.
On that note, I invite you to read both @j-i-poetry poem and @remh-oldsoullikemine poem below!!
Each took a different tone but both made a story. So, after you read both poems, please vote which one is your favorite. The winner results will be posted Monday!!
(The poll to vote is after both poems below)

Title: The Doll by @remh-oldsoullikemine
I had an aunt who passed away
when she was only three.
My grandma kept some old toys of hers and passed them down to me...
My mother wasn't too happy,
she said they always creeped her out.
There was one doll in particular
that she was talking about.
I decided to call the dolly sue,
cause it just felt like a good name.
But I was told by my grandma later,
that my aunt called it Susie Mea.
I thought that was a little odd,
but pushed the thought aside...
Didn't want to let what mom had said
start messing with my mind.
My little sister never liked her either,
and neither did my brother.
He would never tell me why,
but she said, "The dolly didn't like her."
That seemed a strange thing to say,
but at the time, she was barely two.
So, at that time, I just felt like ignoring
the signs was the proper thing to do.
It wasn't until later on
I finally started putting things together.
When I found out how my aunt got the doll, and it survived the fire that killed her.
My grandma said my aunt found the doll when they moved into their old home.
Said that she'd said it told her its name and said it didn't like to be alone.
At first, she took the dolly everywhere
and even slept with it at night.
But then she started to distance herself from it, claiming that something wasn't right.
She said the doll was mean to her,
and that it called her names.
Then came the fire that took her life,
and left the doll untouched by the flames.
My grandma wasn't superstitious at all, but even she admitted it was weird.
Not a singe of flame or smell of smoke, and it still looked like new after all those years.
My mom wasn't born
until a few years after the fire.
But even still, she never liked the doll,
so my grandma had to hide her.
Everything I was learning,
was actually starting to sound freaky.
I felt like I was beginning to get
why the others were so uneasy.
So, I put the doll back in the box,
and left it in the basement.
Then, wouldn't you know, a fire started down there and I never bothered to see if it made it...
I did find out from my grandpa the
house they lived in when my aunt died.
Had been over a hundred years old
and had many fires over that time.
I don't know if the doll was the cause or not, and how it survived so many fires unscathed...
But I don't really need to understand it,
I just want it to stay away!

Bluejay
It was a sunny sky,
A beautiful spring morning.
I cannot remember how the conversation began,
Nor can I remember where it ended.
But I do remember one thing.
You looked toward the front lawn,
And smiled in a way that softened my eyes.
You began to speak fondly about a Bluejay,
A small Bluejay rested upon the fence.
I remember I told you a bird is a bird,
It is just a pair of wings and a beating heart.
As the decades passed,
You continued to seek out Bluejays,
Giving the same warm smile.
Therefore,
The moment we lowered you into the soil,
I turned to our daughter,
And asked if she had any birdseed.

Young
When we meet,
You were young,
And I older than any man could ever live.
I observed as the years passed,
As if I were watching the seasons cycle from a window.
I watched your heart become weak,
Your memory slipping further,
All the while I stayed the same.
And when you reached eighty,
While I stayed thirty-three,
I knew the love we once shared would never be.
And as they placed coins over your eyes,
And gave you your final bouquet,
I fell to my knees,
Weeping to the heavens.
After the image of you dried my tears,
I made a promise.
I shall continue to exist,
And search for you in the dead of night,
Looking at only the brightest stars.
And when all of the stars burn,
I will find your shards,
And form the brightest star to ever shine.
