When I was making my crystal ball brooches, I was wondering... when do the crystal balls first appear? 🔮

It is difficult to determine the exact time of the appearance of the crystal ball image. The use of objects made from transparent materials for practicing magic or fortune-telling has been practiced since ancient times and was common for many civilizations.

As early as the second millennium BC, the Druids - the priests of the ancient Celts who inhabited the British Isles - used transparent stones to predict the future. The religion of the Druids was similar to the oldest religion in England (where there is Stonehenge). Such fortune-telling could have been practiced earlier.

In continental Europe, crystal balls began to appear no earlier than the 500s of our era, and only the period of the High Middle Ages (until the 1500s) became widespread, if not later.

The stereotypical image of a gypsy woman wearing a headscarf and telling fortunes for her clients using a large crystal ball is widely depicted in the media and can be found in hundreds of popular books, advertising pages, and films of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. The pervasiveness of this image may have led to the increased use of crystal balls - by those who can afford them.

I want to share with you one of my fortune-teller brooches photoshoots! This jewelry is made from different beads and sequins.

After a while, I realized that most of my witch brooches could be some part of magic academy student aesthetic jewelry or something. Just maybe...

Throwback of one of my small magic brooches. I enjoyed making these jewelry pieces, I think they would look great on dark monochrome clothes. The bloody red stone in the middle beautifully shimmering in the light and brings a gothic look to any outfit.

This crown reminds me a little about Persephone myth, that’s why it was shooted with pomegranate and in autumn wood. This black headpiece is created from different crystal beads and wire. One of my first crowns which my friend ordered (it’s her in the photo).

Literal translation: An apprentice near a temple will recite the scriptures untaught. 

Meaning: The environment builds our characters.

This is me and my new gothic earrings. ✨ I really enjoyed working on these jewelry pieces. At first I embroidered the shape with satin stitch, then I picked black crystals and beads to complete the design.
