💜BOOK REVIEW💜
Reckless by Elsie Silver
Finished November 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Winter is sick of the Evil Step Sister role which she has been painted into. Leaving her predator husband, and moving the Chestnut Springs to rebuild her relationship with her sister, the last thing she expected was to meet a man like Theo Silva.
After a whirlwind night of sexual tension fuelled snide remarks, followed by a steamy session in a hotel room, Theo leaves to go on the bull riding circuit and Winter is alone with a positive pregnancy test.
Jumping 18 months, Theo comes back to Chestnut Springs to find he has a daughter he never knew about, and Winter is annoyed that her dead beat baby daddy has the nerve to move in next door.
Review: These characters are just so beautifully written. Winter is the broken down woman who uses snide remarks to hide her vulnerabilities and Theo is a loveable rough and ready guy who we all want to walk into our lives and crack our hearts open.
Elsie Silver has wrote yet another happily ever after that I can truly believe in. The characters are relatable and their problems are dealt with, with such care.
I read this book in one sitting. I wanted to know how it ended as soon as it started, I had to see it through.
When you have such an amazing series such as this one, it’s difficult not to give them all 5 stars, so my 5 star is reserved for my favourite one, Heartless, but honestly such a great book!

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
Powerless by Elsie Silver
Finished November 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sloane has been in love with Jasper for as long as she can remember. Ever since she first laid eyes on him, when she was just a child looking out of her window at the sad boy her cousin had taken in.
When Sloane realised she made a mistake agreeing to a marriage of convenience, she needed help to escape before she had to walk down the alter. As always, Jasper is there for her.
They have always just been friends, best friends. Sloane has always been head over heels for him, but Jasper never looks at her the same way.
Jasper has been keeping his feelings for Sloane hidden for too long, but a road trip might be the right time for all these unsaid emotions to come out.
Review: Friends to lovers isn’t normally my thing. I am normally an enemies or strangers to lovers girl. Also, the fact that it was a hockey player and not a rough and ready cowboy like the rest of the series, I was ready to dislike it.
Instead I found myself enjoying it just like the two previous. It took me a little longer to get through it because I have been moving my room around so I can fit two bookcases, I have also made myself a tiny book reading corner.
Anyway, wow. It would have been another 5 star except, I didn’t like the way his control fetish was portrayed. It made it seem like it was a bad thing and that he was a monster, like he was Christian Grey on steroids, but he just likes telling women what to do.
Anyway, the kink could have been handled better, but overall, a great plot, great characters, definitely worth the read.

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
Heartless by Elsie Silver
Finished November 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cade Eaton is a single dad, a full time rancher and has a permanent scowl. His mood is only improved by the giggles of his son Luke.
Luke needs a nanny for the summer, with Cade working the ranch each day, he doesn’t want Luke to miss out on all the summer fun he should have.
Willa Grant is a wild child, an outgoing fiery redhead who is trying to find her place in the world. When her best friend, Summer, asks her is she wants to spend her summer looking after a kid out at Wishing Well Ranch, Willa can’t think of a better excuse to enjoy the country life for a while. It’s just a shame her sexy boss is a massive grump.
Review: I love this book. I love it. I thought Iron Flame would be the best thing I read this month, honestly and then I opened this. Elsie Silver has won my heart again with this beautiful novel. Not only is the writing amazing, but just the chemistry with the characters. I was going through the motions with this, really feeling like I knew these people and I was there witnessing their story. This is truly an amazing read.
I cannot wait to read the next book, and if anyone wants to buy me the next two off my Wishlist, that would be great as my mother says having over 200 books in my room is too many when I don’t have a bookcase to put them on (I’m buying a bookcase tomorrow but I think I will fill it the second it goes up)

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
Flawless by Elsie Silver
Finished November 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Favourite Quote: Page 231 ‘You wear the hat, you ride the cowboy.’
Rhett Eaton is a bull rider with a bad reputation, one which is losing him sponsorships. Summer Hamilton is his agents daughter, who works at the firm. Rhett needs a babysitter to keep him out of trouble whilst his agent tries to repair some of the damage he has done to his reputation, and Summer is the girl for the job.
Summer has to be by Rhett’s side 24/7, which means moving into his home with him for the time being, and going to all the rodeos with him. With the close proximity, the sexual tension is thick, but Kip Hamilton told Rhett to keeps his hands off his daughter. Rhett has never been good at doing what he has been told.
Review: This book is exactly what it says on the tin. A small town romance, a country boy and a big city girl. The bad cowboy falls first and the city girl doesn’t want to get hurt.
It is quite simply, exactly what you expect from a Romance novel. That being said, my only fault to it is that I wouldn’t call it one of my favourites. Which is a rather large challenge considering the sheer amount of books out there with this winning formula. I love my romance books and this one does not disappoint at all.
I never really liked country men before reading this but I’m thinking I may have to venture down to my local farmers market to see what is up for grabs. Living in a rural area has its perks sometimes.
Can’t wait to read the rest of Elsie Silver’s books. This was such an easy read. I devoured it in a few days, and that was only because I have been busy, else I would have had it done in one sitting. A definite 10/10 recommendation to any Romance lovers. We love a good Happily Ever After.

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
New Moon By Stephenie Meyer
Finished November 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Favourite Quote: Page 476 ‘Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.’
New Moon is the second instalment in the twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer. It follows Bella Swan, who is distraught when the love of her life, Edward Cullen, leaves her and moves away.
After months of struggling to get by, she begins to make amends again by spending time with her childhood friend, Jacob Black. They decide to repair motorcycles together, which quickly spirals into Bella being by his side and questioning her friendship with him.
Along with struggling with her feelings for Jacob, she has to figure out what is going on with Sam Uley who has his eyes on Jacob as the next in his gang. When Jacob doesn’t contact Bella, she knows something is wrong and has to discover what secret Sam Uley, and now Jacob, are hiding from her.
Review: I much preferred this book to the first. It was still difficult to get through it but once I broke the halfway mark I got into a much better rhythm with it.
I much prefer the relationship between Bella and Jacob in the book than in the movies. The films make him seem like a he has a childish crush on her, but in the book you get to really understand the full extend of Bella’s feelings for him. You can see the struggle she faces having strong emotions for him, loving him, but those not being able to overcome what she already holds in her heart for Edward.
The writing, is actually okay. Apart from a few things which make little to no sense. Still, after reading it as an adult, I don’t think it will be a book that I go back to again.

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
Finished November 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Favourite Quote: Page 180 ‘Humans have the memories of ghats. Dragons hold grudges.’
The second instalment to the Empyrean series, and a sequel to Fourth Wing, Iron Flame follows Violet Sorrengail as she returns to Basgiath War College for her second year as a rider.
Following Xaden’s graduation, she has to navigate travelling to see him, due to their mated Dragons’ needs, and also trying to make it through her classes without pissing off Varrish, or spilling the truth about the Venin to her friends.
Many secrets are revealed, truths are spilled and Violet has to learn to trust Xaden again after he kept the truth from her about his past, and the real war going on past the wards.
Review: Fourth Wing was missing something but Iron Flame definitely wasn’t. I was there from the minute go, whether that be because of the fast pace of all the drama unravelling in this novel, or due to my need to see Xaden and Violet make up. I was gripped from the second I opened the book.
Part one for me was the better half of the book, but part two had me screaming at the very end.
I will not forgive Yarros for destroying me at the end of this book, and if she doesn’t correct all my heartbreak in the next instalment then I will be having words with her. I did think the hype around this series was extremely uncalled for after the first book, but Yarros really made up for it. I definitely recommend this book to any romantasy lovers out there who want a story they can really get involved in.

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
Hooked by Emily Mcintire
Finished November 2023 (in one sitting!)
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Favourite Quote: Page 298 ‘And to think, it all started with a little bit of faith. Misplaced Trust. Missing Pixie Dust. And a villain who just needed to steal a little love.’
Wendy Michaels is her father’s ‘little shadow’. She has been kept hidden away and her voice silenced for too long, and so when her friend Angie invites her to go to the Jolly Rodger bar, she accepts. It is there that she meets a mysterious stranger, James.
When James turns up at her work the next day and asks her on a date, she doesn’t know what to say, but after some persuasion and another trip to the bar she accepts.
James Barrie is a businessman, one who runs a small empire distributing Pixie Dust (an illegal substance). His difficult past has come back to haunt him in the form of Peter Michaels, Wendy’s father.
James plans to use Wendy to get revenge on Peter for killing his father, but things become complicated along the way.
Review: Wow. Just Wow! I read the entire book in one sitting. I have been attached to my kindle all day today, unable to peel myself away from it.
From the characters, to the plot, to the steamy scenes between James and Wendy, I loved it. It just keeps on giving.
I was there from the beginning, I went through a rollercoaster of emotions today, especially when I was thrown plot twist after plot twist.
Anyone who loves a steamy romance, and always falls for the villain, will love this book as much as I did.

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Finished November 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Favourite Quote: Page 13 ‘No one was going to bite me’
Bella Swan has to move to Fork, to her dad’s, after her mum goes to Florida with her new husband. Starting at the new school, Bella makes friends but she is drawn to a group of people who stand out in the crowds, the Cullens. She is drawn to one in particular, Edward.
Developing a crush, she wants to learn more about what makes Edward so different. After a series of events, including a supernatural save from being crushed by a car, Bella finds out Edward is a Vampire, and she is in love with him.
Review: I read these books back when the movies came out, as I was obsessed with the movies as well. To be completely honest, I still am. Although I am shocked that the books aren’t half as close to the movies as I remember them being, I am more shocked by how problematic it all is to me now.
The relationship is so strange, and it honestly develops a lot more naturally in the movies, and the writing doesn’t help. In some places it’s extremely poor, and the grammar is terrible, and in other places it seems like Meyer is trying too hard. I will say that despite the fact that I have had to give a low rating, I will be continuing to read the rest of them. I loved finding my favourite quotes from the films in the writing as well.

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
The Legacy by Gemma Malley
Finished October 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Favourite Quote: Page 142 ‘In a world where death had been averted, mortal, frail flesh was feared and despised’
The final chapter in the Declaration Trilogy, the Legacy follows Jude, Sheila, Peter, Anna and Pip as the battle against longevity continues. An epidemic begins to sweep the world, a virus that longevity cannot fight, and the death toll continues to rise. Richard Pincent points the finger at the underground, causing chaos in the streets whilst he rushes to find the original formula Albert Fern invented, a last hope to save the eternal human population.
Jude, now working for the underground, is trying to piece together what is happening, whilst Peter is struggling with settling for safety at home with Anna.
Review: What an excellent conclusion to the trilogy. I picked this up last night, reading the prologue, and then I read the rest today. I could not put it down.
It was a little difficult to follow at times, especially at the beginning as each chapter a new chapter seemed to be introduced which was confusing, but I liked how these new POVs gave a rounded view of what was going on throughout all the chaos.
Yet another amazing story, full of twists, and I did not see the final revelation coming. I did not realise what was happening until I was mere sentences away from the mic drop moment. This trilogy is amazing and I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves the science fiction/ dystopian genre.

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
The Resistance by Gemma Malley
Finished Reading October 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Favourite Quote: Page 181 ‘like a field of landmines that she wanted desperately to grow flowers on; one false move and it would blow up in her face.’
The second instalment in the declaration series, the resistance follows Peter and Anna as they navigate through the world, now as legals.
Peter is working with Pip and the underground, by taking up a position in his grandfather’s company, Pincent Pharma. Peter is faced with the decision whether to believe in his grandfather, Richard Pincent, and the beauty of longevity, or to stay true to his upbringing in the underground, fighting eternal life to restore rights for the Surpluses kept in Prison Camps.
We also meet Jude, Peter’s half brother, as he decides which side to take in the war since finding out about his past and the circumstances around his legal status.
Review: Gemma Malley has outdone herself yet again with another brilliant book. It makes an excellent commentary on scientific advances and where we should draw the line, which applies as much today as it does in her futuristic London.
I enjoyed following Peter more, and seeing his character develop more and question the world he lives in, much like Anna did in the previous book. It is full of twists and turns and although the ending was somewhat predictable, I loved it nonetheless. I have to give it 4 stars as it is not quite up there with the Declaration which is a shame to say but I have already started the Legacy and that seems like it will be a winner as well.

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
Finished reading October 2023
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Favourite Quote: Page 375 ‘This kind of desperation isn’t natural; it’s a wildfire that’s likely to burn us both to the ground if we let it.’
Violet Sorrengail grew up a scribe, she was her father’s daughter and spent all of her time with him. After his passing, her mother, General Sorrengail, forces her to enroll in the Rider’s Quadrant. She is supposed to follow in her siblings footsteps and bring honour to her family, or die trying. No one believes she can succeed, not even her best friend Dain Aetos, who is a second year and a squad leader in the Rider’s Quadrant himself. She has to prove to herself, her best friend and her mother that she can become a Rider and bond to a Dragon at the Threshing, and then make it to graduation alive. With many wanting her dead for being weak, and being the General’s Daughter, none has as many reasons as Xaden Riorson to try and end her life. Instead of staying away like her sister warned, she ends up a lot closer to him than she would like, under his command as Wingleager of the Fourth Wing.
Review: I wanted this so badly to be 5 star book. I was recommended it by so many people and I have seen it all over my tik tok fyp. I love the relationship between Violet and Xaden. The concept and the story are great. The storyline flows really well, there are great characters including my favourite, Andarna the feathertail.
For me, there was something missing from this book. The world building was not there as much as I would like, but that didn’t take away from the story, the plot and the characters more than made up for it. The writing was… ok. I like to get lost in a book. I like to feel like I am there when I am reading it. I didn’t get that until about the last 10 chapters. I will definitely be getting Iron Flame when it is released, as I am now invested, but there was still definitely something I didn’t get from this book that I can’t quite put my finger on.

💜BOOK REVIEW💜
The Declaration By Gemma Malley
Finished Reading October 2023
Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Favourite Quote: page 58 ‘make it think you love it before abusing its trust so completely that it could never trust another human being again’
Anna is a surplus, an illegal child in a dystopian future in which living forever is made possible with medication and surgery. She lives in Grange Hall, a prison/training camp where illegal children are held and trained to be slaves for the wealthy legals who have been living on decades past what they should have.
Anna is trying her best to become a ‘valuable asset’, someone worthy of a life outside the walls of the surplus halls, someone who can pay back the debt her parents made her owe to mother nature.
When a new surplus arrives, a child the same age as Anna, he comes telling stories of Anna’s parents and of life outside the grey walls she had known all her life. Peter, the new surplus, is doing everything in his power to try help Anna realise she has a chance in the real world, with her parents, a chance where she can get out from under the evil claws of Mrs Pincent, the house matron.
Review: Gemma Malley is a brilliant writer who has created a powerful young adult science fiction novel that can be enjoyed by teenagers and adults alike. This was one of the first books I read that I loved, back when I was around eleven years of age, and returning to it as an adult not only reminded me of how truly gripping the storyline is and the world that has been created, but also how well written this story is. I will return to it again and I cannot wait to read the other two stories in this series. I can’t wait to see what is next in store for Anna and Peter.
I can definitely say that to anyone who loves YA Dystopian novels, this is one for you.
