Just dropping this in because I'm very happy to find so many people who share my headcanon! Shen Yuan's emotional attachment to Xiu Ya was something I always found kind of confirmatory for this headcanon. And also his reaction to seeing OG!SQQ's memories, especially hugging tiny LBH and thinking of all the abuse the kid went through. It just very much felt like an "Oh god, what have I done?" moment? Also the selfishness and selfless determination to protect his loved ones.

SO, I read Scum Villain Self Serving System (and a LOT of fanfic) and I gotta say…. I do love Shen Qingqiu. And I also subscribe to the “Who made me a Princess”-esque theory that Shen Qingqiu is Shen Jiu is Shen Yuan. It fits with how I read the story and it fits with how I like characterizing them. Either way here’s how I decided I want to draw him.

Shen Qingqiu was one of the greatest huntsmen in all of China, as well as the second in command to the leader of one of their most powerful groups. He and their leader, Yue Qingyuan, seemed to have appeared out of nowhere during their teens and take the clan by storm, although Shen Qingqiu was later in his training and always seemed to have something holding him back.

He was in charge of the training for many of the members, which he coldly overlooked. He did not seem to hold any affection for the male members, although he was suspiciously interested in the female ones.

However, there was one child, Luo Binghe, that he absolutely despised. And when he found out that child was of a dragon linage? Well, tossing him through a gate to hell was a mercy compared to what he should have done.

Unfortunately for him, Binghe didn't feel that way.

Binghe hunts him like a true huntsclan member, but just before he actually catches his prey-

their marks begin to glow.

and the next thing Shen Qinqi- no Shen Yuan knows, he's waking up in a bed littered with trashy novels, feeling like he just had a horrific nightmare.

"that's what I get for reading this crap so late, I guess" He sighs, getting up to face the day, ignoring the niggling feeling that he was forgetting something...

((Miles away, a dragon wakes with a ferocious roar, furious that his prey escaped again, and even more infuriated that he's already starting to forget just who it was.))

Shen Jiu and Shen Yuan are the same person.

This is after Qiu Haitang was confronted with the truth about her family:

Shen Qingqiu understood instantly. It was the bits and pieces of Shen Jiu’s memories that were still remaining in his body!]

And afterwards Mo Meng helped him recover more and more memories.

Shen Yuan and Shen Jiu are the same person who have just lived through different experiences.

Now before I get into this I have to preface that my analysis of Shen Yuan’s personality is mainly based off how he speaks and acts in his own head, and how he acts around Liu Qingge and Shang Qinghua.

Remember throughout the novel Shen Yuan spends most of his own time fearing for his life. He knows what behaviors will get him killed so he goes the opposite direction. Faking a kinder and more patient personality than he actually has.

Not to say that every hint of kindness is fake, but he definitely plays it up. 

With that out of the way I can start off by saying that Shen Yuan and Shen Jiu have almost the exact same personality and interests. Barring the level of cruelty either of them seem capable and willing to commit. Which can be and is explained by the level of trauma either of them has gone through. I’ll get back to that later.

Now what do I mean when I say that Shen Yuan and Shen Jiu have the same personality. Well I’m glad you’ve asked

1. Shen Jiu and Shen Yuan are both people that enjoy learning and both have an interest in monsters.

2. They’re both bitchy-but in a fun way. They’re both snarky, they both think everyone around them is an idiot and love to insult them for it, they’re both incredibly intimidating(See how Shen Yuan acts with Shang Qinghua)

3. They both have low empathy. Shen Jiu treats Binghe like shit because that’s how he was treated.

Shen Yuan didn’t even try to understand how Binghe was feeling after he came back, and even more than that didn’t even think about how his friends would mourn him after he faked his death.

4. Piggy backing off of number three; neither of them seem to think about the consequences of their actions. This seems self explanatory.

5. They’re both also extremely ambitious and productive when it comes to something they think is important. Shen Jiu wanting to move up in the world. Shen Yuan and his ever present fear of death. Both of them were constantly working and putting things in motion to achieve their goals.

 I could go on.

There’s an extra that really proves my point personality wise where Shen Jiu goes monster hunting with Liu Qingge and Shang Qinghua and if you told me that it was Shen Yuan in that scene it wouldn’t have seemed out of character at all. That’s how similar they were.

The only big difference between them is once again their aptitude for cruelty. And once again, that’s the trauma baby. 

Shen Yuan had a MUCH easier life than Shen Jiu, oh my god. Oh course Shen Jiu was gonna grow up fucked up, his life was miserable. 

It’s the nature versus nurture debate.

The both of them seemed to be angry people already the only difference is Shen Yuan going “You can’t treat people like that” and Shen Jiu going “Yes I sure as fuck can, I was treated like that.”

That’s it, that’s the only difference between them I can find. So much of their dialogue would be completely in character for the other to say(barring the treatment of binghe.)

SY reincarnated back in time as SJ

He could've lost his memories of his life as SY upon being born and then lost his memories of his life as SJ and regained those of his past life after that fever/qi deviation. SQH clearly remembers growing up in the PIDW universe, so it wouldn't make a lot of sense for SY to get transmigrated into SQQ at some random point in his life (assuming that their systems belong to the same "group")

((someone on here also made a post listing the parallels between SY and SJ's personality and a post pointing out that the holy mausoleum brings back the soul that belongs to that corpse and I'd love it if someone dropped a link to those two🥺🥺))

2. The current generation of peak lords got their positions fairly recently

I'm basing this off of the fact that Qiu Haitang isn't described as an old person. She's a rogue cultivator iirc and I think if she were an immortal she'd have been atleast a little well known in the cultivation world. Also, Ming Fan's SQQ's head disciple/first disciple and he's pretty young. That's it :v
