there is a difference between being born to a throne, maliciously vying for a throne, stealing a throne, and having a throne thrust upon you when you are already in the midst of an identity crisis. And I fear Loki's place in the line of succession has people unable to differentiate between any of these

Hey, so with the Loki season two finale airing in like four days, a show featuring a currently heavily implied romance between a dark haired immortal being who played a role in human history searching for his purpose and a just some blond guy—I feel like marvel has the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever, three years and four days after destiel was made canon and promptly executed on live television.

there being next to no established canon backstory for basically anyone in this film is tonnes of fun cause you can say stuff like 'i think nigel had a brother he accidentally killed when they were both children' and there's nothing to dispute it

HA! you can gaslight that man into believing whatever you want he understands so little of his own film #coming up with my own reasons as to why his father dislikes him so much #like minds #nigel colbie #like minds 2006 #originally when i wrote this it was younger brother but now i'm like . older? i mean there's something to be said #about the idea of the older brother .the protector . being responsible for the death of the younger one #but then i started thinking along the lines of a baldr loki sort of situation. where the older one is the golden child #so perfect and pure and bright #and the younger has something irrefutably wrong with them. they're wicked and rotten and wrong #and they end up being responsible for the death of the child beloved by both their parents #and from there the resentment festers and grows #maybe john should've taken better care to make sure his guns were always locked away properly #maybe it wasn't as much of an accident as nigel led them all to believe #anyway .watch someone jump in and point directly to canon info that refutes this . i have not watched the film in awhile

The fact that the mcu makes Loki being super powerful technically canon, but then turns around and almost never shows it and goes out of their way to emphasise what a wimp he is compared to several other characters is… a paradox.

This is a guy who:

• successfully enchants 50% of the giant eldritch horror entity that devours universes and tamed the entire multiverse, on his first try

• can telekinetically lift an entire building on the fly without breaking a sweat

• has the power to create an illusion the size of a large city

• whether for nefarious reasons or not, is literally the one that intentionally brought the avengers together and then almost succeeded in beating all 6 of them by himself

• overpowered, dethroned, and enchanted the literal Allfather and trapped him that way for 4 years

• is the only character we’ve seen onscreen that has the power to travel between worlds without the use of any magical object

• isn’t even a nexus being, yet almost every version of him in every universe is a timeline breaker and he’s created more nexus events than any other being in TVA history

But then the writers turn around and make him get beat up by humans to show how badass Sylvie is by comparison or make him get his ass kicked by Valkyrie to show how badass she is by comparison or make him get punked by Dr Strange in less than 30 seconds to show how badass he is by comparison or make him get outsmarted by Thor to show how badass he is by comparison or-

You get the point.

#loki is a plot device even when it’s his scene even when it’s his show #like he is actually canonically SO powerful #it’s just that they never actually let us see it #so half of us don’t even realise it #people keep saying they want marvel to make him as powerful as Wanda or strange #but like #even just with the stuff we’ve seen of him so far he ALREADY IS #it’s just whether they want to acknowledge it or not :/#Loki meta #loki series negativity #thor ragnarok criticism #loki

ultimately something i think i'll just never get over re: the loki series is the fact that the time travel theme afforded so many opportunities to delve into the most core facets of loki's history and character (aka the things that formed the basis of literally every loki plotline and all his ~villainous deeds~) and allow him to finally reckon with that history - loki's jotun heritage, odin's manipulation/emotional abuse of both loki and thor, loki's suicide attempt, everything with thanos - and the creators were just. fundamentally and inexplicably not interested in any of that

#loki #like they would not even *touch* it beyond 'u killed ur mother' and occasional references to asgard/thor #they could've really delved into his dysfunctional family dynamics #we could've watched loki tackle his internalized racism #they could have explored the fact that one year ago loki felt so unloved by his father that he didn't want to fucking LIVE anymore #there could've been even so much as a brief acknowledgement #of his horrific experiences with one of the most evil and powerful beings in the universe #(you know. the situation he got out of literal DAYS before the beginning of this series)#and honestly i don't even mean to say that they didn't do interesting things with loki as a character in the series - they did!#it's just that they could have done so much MORE and it would have been so easy #and i hate that they ignored so much compelling material #and - especially - i hate that we will never get any kind of acknowledgement of any of the wrongs done TO loki #or a genuine exploration of his trauma #suicide mention #loki tv series #loki series negativity #op

been thinking of Loki as a vengeful ghost/demon that tries to kill Thor after dying on Jotunheim except instead of killing Thor straightup Thor's on a quest following a trail of weird clues and strange happenings across multiple realms sort of? so Loki is just leading him around not showing himself but very much heartbroken in the distance about how Thor just 'moved on'. Meanwhile on Thor's end it's very evident in how Thor handles quests once Loki is gone that he still follows all the advice and suggestions Loki made, and tries to consider what Loki would have done when he does things.

#im not writing it because i have too many works in progress already but do you see my vision #do you understand the vibe i am going for #tragic death Loki and Thor who never processed Loki's death beyond 'he's not here right now'#and this is maybe like. way after Loki's death. like at least a century later so no Thor doesn't immediately suspect anything #is it strange that he's witnessed multiple similar occurrences and connecting clues across multiple realms like they're for him?#yes.#but he thinks he's being so suave and detective about solving this mystery and suspects a powerful malicious demon figure to be behind it #not his dead brother who he feels wholly responsible for having died since he was the one that dragged them to Jotunheim for fun #Loki who died confused and resentful about so many things and upon realizing he's Not Exactly Stayed Dead deciding he was abandoned #because no one returned for his body but they also never explained anything to him which meant he had to seek answers himself AFTER HE DIED #reasonable to say he wasn't happy about it and isn't out to hurt random strangers #but Thor and Asgard?#he has a vendetta and he has it planned out so neatly #sans the part where he actually. kills Thor. because he only thinks he wants that #he would do it too if Thor didn't get reasonable about Loki wanting revenge at the end #'when did Thor get mature' Loki wonders bitterly. like it's such a mystery
