In what ways does undertale's themes drop the ball? I feel like they do as well, but I only really see the criticisms you mentioned in your post by the online fandom at large.

the sans fight is cool and fun and has a sick music track. it should have fucking sucked it should have been literally on the same level as the stanley parable baby game. it should have been impossible without an autoclicker and been super fucking tedious with one. it should have been desert bus.

like i don't think that what undertale is every trying to say is 'killing video game characters is morally wrong in real life'. i think it's clearly, in chara and flowey--who are obviously positioned as Players of video games--is trying to explore what (at least to toby fox) is an unhealthy and unsatisfying way of playing games. the need to maximize the amount of 'content', the need to experience everything in a game even when it's not fun anymore. i think the way that flowey talks makes this very clear:

like obviously diegetically this kind of stuff is meant to go towards making a point of how detached flowey is from his moral reality but i think non-diegetically this is pretty clearly speaking to a way of engaging with games that toby fox thinks sucks the fun out of them. flowey isn't connected to the contents of undertale because he didn't play it for fun, he played it to extract the maximum amount of Content, to see every possible combination of events, to get all the endings, etc.

the rest of no mercy route isn't fun. killing enemies once you've levelled up at all is boring and barely interactive, walking around in circles to spawn every single random encounter is boring, you miss out on substantial amounts of content--the humour and dialogue, etc. and that's the point! i don't think the intended emotional effect of the empty misery of the no mercy route is to make you think 'i'm a bad person for killing video game characters' it's to make you think 'is this even fun? what am i even getting out of this?' or in short--

unfortunatley i think the sans fight being very cool and becoming iconic of the game kind of fumbles that very very hard becaues it does make the murder everybody route ultimately rewarding--it gives players the Content that i feel like the entire writing and metanarrative of the game is setting up to not exist, and so i think it absolutely fails to stick the landing.

Yandere! X-Tale/X-Event! Chara + X-Tale Sans Sharing a Darling

(FT. X! Frisk and Cross mentioned)

Pairing: Romantic/Platonic - Sharing

Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Manipulation, Yandere Sharing, Possessive behavior, Overprotective behavior, Kidnapping, Vague yandere themes, Dubious companionship/relationship.

The thing is, X! Sans doesn't really come into play until Chara becomes the X-Event with Frisk.

So the most likely situation, without any AUs, would be them going obsessive over you as Cross.

Which... would just be a Cross concept.

So, here's my idea.

This idea would lead into a Cross concept, but Cross won't be the focus this time.

However... them sharing would eventually lead into Cross.

I'm going to imagine that you're in timeline X or at least are a visitor.

Chara most likely gets attached first then Sans does.

Stuff like this gets complicated since Frisk is part of the X-Event... and then Cross happens... it's a mess.

So~ Let's me try my best.

You are most likely part of the X-Timeline.

Chara is currently known as the X-Event with Frisk and they start as your "friends".

In reality they both have seen countless copies of you... but despite their negativity, they still find some care for you.

Sans, naturally due to the Timeline, also sees you as a childhood friend.

You grew up alongside the "two" and you know nothing of the whole OVERWRITE and RESET thing.

Sans didn't know anything about it until the X-Event used OVERWRITE on him.

Chara is the one that cares for you the most, but Frisk naturally also cares about you.

It's just Chara is the one who interacts with you more often through Frisk.

Sans grows closer to you since you're so close with the X-Event.

Poor you would expect nothing until things go down.

What I imagine is during the events of Timeline X, Chara knows that they can't play this game much longer.

They need to get rid of Gaster... and they need to use Sans to do it.

Plus, Chara knows once he gets rid of Gaster... he can have his happy ending with you.

Meanwhile, Sans has no clue and just grows attached to you naturally.

He just thinks he has a small crush on his best friend.

Has since he was small... until Chara enacts his plan as the X-Event.

Now... does it even matter?

I like to think they both like you to some degree but don't decide on sharing until the very end of the timeline.

When Chara (as X-Event) uses OVERWRITE and tells Sans everything, he also admits he knows about how Sans feels towards you.

Sans is nervous and stressed about the whole situation... even more so when Chara admits they feel a similar way towards you.

But they won't hurt Sans... no... in fact, if the skeleton aids them in taking down Gaster...

They'll share, no matter what.

Which leads into the final battle, the universe and timeline are destroyed, leaving only Chara and Sans as Cross.

Perhaps they think you died but you managed to flee to the Omega Timeline for refuge?

That, or you are also in that void of a universe with them... just them.

That's an idea of how things can play out.

In terms of behavior?

Chara is sadistic and teasing, while Sans is compassionate albeit a bit stressed/worried.

I like to imagine later on they meet you as Cross and both of them break down.

They thought you died.

Now the two are one being... which somewhat makes it easier to share if they aren't squabbling for control.

That's most likely the peak of them sharing without going too much into Cross and Season 2.

They're definitely compatible with sharing an obsession due to this existence of Cross.

But Chara certainly wants control more often.

Chara comes off as cruel at times, often toying with you due to his nature.

But Sans/Cross comforts you, trying to explain that Chara is just... like that.

Chara is cruel at times but he wouldn't want to hurt you too much.

Chara and Sans still have their little deal as Cross, they can share you.

Safe to say they still want to create their "perfect" universe with you.

It doesn't matter who dies, it doesn't matter if you run...

They'll find you... even if it requires being covered in the blood of other universe copies.

You'll be living with them in their new universe and they will share you just as they share their own body...

It doesn't matter what you think, in their eyes you always belonged with them... no one else.

Chara is one of the most complex and fascinating characters within Subtertale, and in our version of the story, her role is significantly expanded. Subtertale takes key elements from Undertale and inserts them into a context where the relationship between humans and monsters is much more intricate and painful, with deep wounds that have yet to heal, which directly influences Chara's development.

Chara's origin and context in Subtertale: In our AU, Chara lived in Jasuttisuville, a human city characterized by its connection to magical culture and ancient tales about monsters. While the humans of Ketteiville, like Lyra, lived with a certain neutrality and distance from the past events of the war, those of Jasuttisuville maintained a closer and more emotional relationship with these tales. Chara is a direct product of this environment, which gives her a unique perspective on the war between humans and monsters and its tragic outcome.

Chara, having fallen into the Underground long before Lyra, becomes a bridge between both worlds. However, her fall was no accident: Chara, deeply influenced by the conflicts and hatred unleashed by the radical group in Shymattiville, chose to throw herself into Mount Ebott as an act of desperation, rage, and resignation. The hatred accumulated since the war, the despair and the suffering of having fallen into the underground manifest in a nihilistic vision. It is here that Chara connects with Kamydxiel, the entity that seeks to destroy the balance of creation, representing chaos and hopelessness.

Chara as a redeemer:

If Lyra chooses the path of empathy and understanding, Chara can find a way to redemption. In this case, the hopelessness that initially marked Chara's life slowly dissipates, and the character finds in Lyra a mirror of what could have been had she made different choices. Here, Chara is a symbol of forgiveness, both towards monsters and towards herself. This route shows Chara as a tragic character but with a ray of hope.

The connection between Chara and monsters: Chara's relationship with monsters is a key point of analysis in Subtertale. Chara not only lived among them, but joined in their suffering and, in many ways, became one of them, although she was never fully accepted. Toriel, who serves as a motherly figure to both Lyra and Chara, is one of the most important characters in Chara's life. There's been a HUGE update to Slasher's lore, so if you're interested strap in for it! It's below the cut, otherwise I have a littttle art.

Slasher belongs to me and their weird fankid was designed by Meowz too!

(Slasher's au is essentially what base Undertale would be in a better, nicer light. Asriel and Chara are intact, Gaster is still alive and with his two sons, Toriel and Asgore are still together, The rest of the humans (minus Frisk) never fell, so on and so forth.)

Slasher grew up on war stories told by father, Gaster, he tells Slasher what happened on the surface while he was a part of the war since he was alive to see it. It's supposed to be taken as a warning, or a lesson, yet Slasher doesn't take it that way and views the events as fiction despite being real. Slasher grows obsessed with forms of storytelling, movies, writing, etc spawning from these stories told to him. While studying under Gaster to become the next royal scientist alongside their shared assistant Alphys, Slasher takes an eager hobby journaling, although there isn't much to report in the underground. He starts up a side job with the Snowdin Librarby to create a newspaper, which he runs mostly himself. He pines for good stories, and news to report, without much luck.

The insanity that leads to his killings sets in because of his discontent feeling about what he believes to be a mundane life. He's bored with a sense of needing to belong, to be known. Always in his brother and father's shadow (one being the royal scientist and the other being a main member of the royal guard), he grows an odd resentment. Slasher feels disconnected from the reality around him, though that's always been true since he was little, the feeling grows worse. He was born with mental illnesses he couldn't help - but as time progressed his condition took a toll on him, and hating to bother either family member, his problems remained unknown and not taken care of.

He starts killing in the underground very broadly in comparison to his old lore (killing victims slowly, one by one, etc) Slasher kills his first victim using his clever head for things he shouldn't. He makes the murder as terrible as possible. Then, using it as a headline for his newspaper, he reports the murder in detail and acts as a detective to track down himself while journalling and documenting the process. This progresses and he kills more and more for his recognition, all while making headlines up until his thirst for blood goes too far. Then similarly to his past lore, he kills everyone up until Frisk and Chara.

Chara sacrifices themselves to help Frisk make it to the surface in hopes one day they'll be able to return and reset. Frisk has to fight Slasher off in his last ditch effort to catch them in Judgement Hall, and this results in a traumatic head injury that damages Slasher's head and perception. Frisk escapes, and while Slasher is left to rot in the underground they bide their time, waiting to return to fix what he caused.

In a pit of his own self induced negativey, Slasher draws in Nightmare. Nightmare takes him in, and nurses him back to health with the intent to use him for his own personal gain. Slasher lives with him and fills out his orders, quite content with his new freedom and outlet for his storytelling.

Omori X Dusttale concept ideas! These ideas were made for @liliallowed so they will house their headcanons, AUs, and their version of player, Crimson

IDEA #1: Frisk

This idea takes the concept of Frisk being in the role of Sunny and Crimson being in the role of Omori. It takes place in a time before Crimson left Frisk and got their own body, basically the events leading to it.

The idea is that Frisk, who lost control of their body and mind, could still see and experience what's going on but can't control their body or think for themselves. Due to this, they often "fall asleep" as there's nothing they can do. While asleep, they dream of being on the surface with all their monster friends, everything is fine, more on the whimsy side though like Headspace, however their appearance in their version of Headspace is a younger looking Crimson instead of themselves. Though they still feel empty so, like Omori, barely expresses much or speaks. They can wake up from the dreams to experience what's going on in the real world.

As things go on, Crimson starts taking more control of the situation as they're getting ready to leave behind Frisk. Like in Omori, Crimson starts becoming more of a different entity in the dreams rather than just a different look. Meanwhile, a piece of Chara that was left hidden in the code plays as the role of Stranger, not able to do much but try to guide Frisk and make them snap out of everything, remember who they were and what they could do.

There would be around three different endings. The good ending: Frisk gains control of their own body as Crimson gets their own, leaving it to where Frisk is aware and wasn't discarded like a puppet, though now they have to do their own thing while stuck in the Underground with two insane people. The bad ending: Frisk and the piece of Chara, mainly the piece, fights back against Crimson and breaks Frisk and Crimson so badly that Crimson is booted out of the world and Frisk is left in a sort of state of being permanently dead but not dead at the exact same time, just sort of existing with absolutely nothing going on. The true ending: Just how things normally play out in lili's Dusttale basically.

IDEA #2: Sans

This idea is with the concept of Dust being Sunny and Sans being Omori. Unlike the last idea and Omori, this takes place all within one dream, not multiple. Dust dreams up the Underground he knows and loves, not much different but there are a few things, most importantly there's no human. Sans is the Omori of this, but to an extent. He never becomes his own entity, he just takes the role of himself but with his subconscious suppressing and making him forget the trauma and shit that happened. Very much one of those situations where some disturbing shit that's linked to reality happens or is brought up and everyone else is normal, acting like it's not there, and Sans goes into self aware questioning for a moment type things.

As things go on, his subconscious tries to make him remember at the same time as suppressing it, so he can wake up and deal with reality and the problem that lies in it. I wouldn't say who exactly has what role outside of Dust and Sans being Sunny and Omori, as this is less role-finding. But when he remembers and realizes in his own Headspace, he takes a moment to look back at the fantasy his mind created, saying his own thoughts before willingly leaving it behind and waking up.

I never intended for this idea to have multiple endings, Dust just wakes up and goes on about his daily fucked up life. Buuutt, if you want to be angsty, you can make a bad ending where Dust/Sans refuses everything and clings to the fantasy, making his body stay asleep so he can live in the past.

Skeleton's brother vanishes out of existence, nobody remembers them, and any important event attached to their brother is attributed to Skeleton instead. There's no physical evidence left behind aside from Skeleton's memories, and even those memories are slowly depreciating over time.

Undertale Sans - It's not happening again. He doesn't care if he has to break the entire space-time continuum, he's not forgetting his brother. Sans puts on his scientist vest again and will do all he can to save Papyrus. He doesn't care if no one believes him, or if everyone thinks he's losing it, he refuses to lost another brother, even if he has to get lost in another universe again. Sans is not losing his little brother. If there's a way to prevent this, he will.

Undertale Papyrus - He doesn't understand what's going on. Sans is gone, and it's like no one remembers him, even Toriel, or Frisk. Papyrus is freaking out. If this is some sort of very elaborated prank, it is really not funny at all. As Papyrus realises he loses his own memories, he's getting more and more distressed, begging everyone for help, until he breaks down and starts to scream at his friends. Alphys sedates him. When he wakes up, he has entirely forgot Sans, but can tell he forgot something really important and it's making him anxious.

Underswap Sans - He goes to see Chara and screams at them to fix it, to bring his brother back. Chara has no idea what he is talking about and quite freaked out because he's scaring them. Blue can't stand their inaction and attacks them in front of Asgore, who attacks back to defend their child. Blue is hurt seriously and forced to give up. Asgore asks Alphys to arrest him. Alphys does it even if she doesn't want to, and confess he is scaring her too. Blue is broken and doesn't understand why no one is believing him. He will never search to look for his brother, even after he forgot him, not entirely there anymore.

Underswap Papyrus - "please Undyne, you have to believe me! i am not ill! my brother disapeared from the reality, you are my only hope." Undyne feels bad for him. Clearly, something happened to Honey. She decides to help him, mostly to keep an eye on him because his HP is really worrying her. Honey keeps crying and writing frenitically his brother's name on every piece of paper he can find. But eventually, he has no idea what the name is, and he falls down, not even understanding why. Undyne tried all she could to save him, but he was too far gone already.

Underfell Sans - He finds a breach in the void and throws himself in it. He might get lost in time and space, he might save his brother. The two of them reappears years later out of nowhere, very weak. They refused to talk about anything that happened there.

Underfell Papyrus - Doomfanger is staring at something for hours and hours every day, and Edge starts to think something is wrong with his cat. It's a shame she can't talk to say Red is stuck in another parallel dimension and screaming his name. Well, at least it's entertaining. For a cat. Especially when Red screams insults at her, and she stays slightly out of reach. She doesn't regret she got adopted by these weird skeletons.

Horrortale Sans - He forgot his brother, but he can't stop himself from being sad, angry and anxious for some reason. Even Toriel can't calm him this time. Oak doesn't understand what is happening to him, and he thinks he is finally losing it after all these years being abused Underground. He prefers to run away in the woods so he doesn't hurt anyone. It's better this way.

Horrortale Papyrus - Willow is heartbroken, and powerless. He knows what's happening, he's not an idiot, but what can he do about it? He's not a scientist, and the only person who would have believed him is long gone. Willow hopes that whenever his brother is, he will find a way home. He doesn't have the strength to look after him. Willow falls into a deep depression as soon as he forgets his brother entirely.

Swapfell Sans - That's not fair! They struggled so much to salvage their relationship, and now Rus is just gone, and he is all alone, at Toriel's mercy. Nox knows he can't talk to anyone about this. As soon as everyone will know the old captain knows, he is dead. He will try his best to find a way, but eventually loses the battle. Nox goes back being under Toriel's control entirely, because he doesn't know what else to do with his life. He doesn't understand what's wrong.

Swapfell Papyrus - He goes straight to his machine and rebuilt it. He doesn't care if he ends like Gaster, he refuses to keep going without trying anything to save his brother. The machine explodes eventually, bringing Nox back as a result... But Rus didn't survived the explosion.

Fellswap Gold Sans - He is ready to kill everyone just to have his little brother again. He kidnaps Undyne and forces her to work night and day to find his brother, until Undyne breaks down and, when he is asleep, stabs him to death. She can't stand this madness anymore. She can't. She is scared of him, and she knows she just murdered him, but there was no other way. Wine lost it!

Fellswap Gold Papyrus - Coffee doesn't know why, but he knows he is in danger. As soon as Wine has disappeared, a lot of monsters converges to his house for some reason. The general is dead. He is in the way. Coffee escapes his house and goes to live in the street, not having a day to rest as every monster of the Underground wants him dead for some reason. He feels like something is not right.

Hello and welcome to Undertale: Reality Mirage! I'm happy you found this place... And I sure hope you enjoy your stay!

Now, I'm sure you're veeeeery confused... But not to worry! Your good friend Cicada will help you!

Let's start with the basics...

What is Undertale: Reality Mirage?

Undertale: Reality Mirage is a silly little AU of mine that follows one basic rule...

Every single Undertale AU is created by Frisk writing fanfiction!

Yup, you read that right! Our favorite little ambassador is now a pre-teen and does what most pre-teens do, writing fanfiction of their favorite people, of course! And since their favorite people are the monsters they saved… That becomes the subject of their writing!

And, with the assistance of their beta reader Chara and account manager Gaster, the three enjoy watching Frisk’s fanfiction play out through the use of Gaster’s newest creation, the ‘World Builder’! It takes the plot of Frisk’s stories and turns them into movies, so to speak.

Jokes aside, Undertale: Reality Mirage is a silly idea I came up with one day, the idea in mind is that Frisk writes fanfiction with Chara and Gaster, and they watch it like a movie. 

There would be multiple ‘worlds’ for them to ‘watch’, each being my own take on a popular Undertale AU, such as Underswap, Storyshift, etc.

I plan on each ‘world’ to be a sprite comic, with the events leading up to and ending being in standard writing form.

What is the first ‘world’?

The first ‘world’ that I am working on is my take on Underswap. I do not have a name for it yet other than Underswap, sadly, but I do plan on updating the name soon!

So far, I’m still in the process of outlining the lore and characters and trust me, that is a lot of work to be done. However, I’m not giving up yet! I like to think I’m making good progress!

I will not be releasing anything relating to Underswap yet, as that is where most of the spoilers relating to this AU are. After all, you’re gonna find out everything about Undertale: Reality Mirage really quickly when it releases! I have no issues with sharing stuff like that.

I haven’t been in the Undertale fandom for long, but that doesn’t mean I’m not used to writing or making Undertale AUs! I’ve always been fascinated by the thought of taking characters people know and love and changing them around… Making them different in either easy-to-notice or hard-to-see changes.

My favorite Undertale AU is probably either Fellswap or Swapfell and the main AUs they’re from, like Underswap and Underfell! The vibes of them are just perfect…

Haha… No. This isn’t a genocide AU at all.

In this AU, Gaster is a ghost that only Frisk and Chara can see. Frisk didn’t kill anyone during their journey since they did the pacifist route to achieve this ending.

And Sans, Papyrus, and all the other characters in Undertale aren’t really going to be present at all. After all, Undertale: Reality Mirage focuses on the friendship of Chara, Frisk, and Gaster, not anyone else.

That doesn’t mean you won’t be able to see your favorite characters, though. They might show up sometimes, but they aren’t going to be the main focus or anything.

But that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to see your favorite characters! After all, this is all about seeing the differences in characterization depending on what AU they’re from!

Apologies for the confusion! Allow me to clear some things up.

Reality Mirage is not my take on Underswap. However, they are related. 

Reality Mirage can be thought of as a folder of sorts. Inside the ‘folder’ are the ‘worlds’. My take on Underswap is one of them. It can be thought of as an AU within an AU.

🖤 If you're here, that is. I can't tell that either. You haven't narrated many of the posts for Tenna lately, so… well, I just have to hope you are here. It would be a bit embarrassing to say all this, knowing the PLAYERs are listening, and not gain anything from it.

🖤 Anyway, could you tell me how your role works? Do you know innately when you're needed? Are you the one in charge of what gets posted? Or… is that up to fate? What are the rules?

🖤 Because I've been thinking. If there's anybody who knows a lot about the inner mechanics of our world's interactions with the PLAYERs, at least through this Internet medium, it has to be you. I don't know how you ended up where you are, or what it's like to be there… but you're clearly sapient, and you have been for a while. That means that you're probably pretty aware of the world you narrate.

[ I would say it is up to fate. ]

[ Think of it like this – I was created for a certain “role”, just as you and TENNA are. I am not a Darkner, mind. I lived in the Light World once, and had the same power the Lightners of your world would. I have more “free will” than that of an object. ]

[ I resemble someone from the world this one was shaped in the image of, as well. That, I imagine, grants me some degree of “specialness”. I would call it some power of perverted sentimentality. ]

[ But I was, still, created to fill a role I can no longer fill. And so, when I ceased to fill that role, this world deigned to assign me a new one. ]

[ One that, like the one before it, mirrored the “me” I had never met. ]

[ And so, here I am. My fate guides me along the path it sees fit for me to have. My role mirrors the one my predecessor had before me. ]

[ Those are the “rules”, in my limited understanding of them. ]

🖤 And, um. Like me, you probably don't have too much control over your actions, do you? That's alright. As long as I know what you can do, I can use that knowledge.

Hi!!! I'm a little slower than I usually would be for this, but VERY glad you sent this in!! been wantin' to figure out some interaction ideas, so this is a verrry good kick in the tail to do so :] I'll be doing most/all of your blogs ( that I know of, anyhow! ) too since I might as well!!!

━ @manebloom ;; Funfact, part of why I picked up the Hunter slugcat from rainworld was because I wanted easier access to tossing muses over to furry blogs, namely yours! Thus, Hunter has an anthro verse which would slot pretty easily into Dandelions! Munkustrap, Rum Tum Tugger and Mistoffelees would also be pretty easy to make into anthro verses too now that I think about it! Cat v cat <3 Senpai in particular also has an easy 'in' to Dandie's mainverse by sheer virtue of being a Literal video game character, so her finding a funky game & it being Senpai's is very straightforward which could lead to an interesting dynamic, especially considering Senpai being part code part Mentally Ill Guy meaning he's just not the healthiest innately but could also lead to some interesting growth as they learn to deal with eachother since. well. unless Dandie pawned Senpai's game off to somebody else or overcame what guilt there'd probably be of permanently shutting his game off, they're stuck with eachother BKHGTBR

ofc, there's also my UT/DR muses! Chara, Asgore, Toriel, Kris, Ralsei, Jevil and Noelle all leap first to mind, with Toriel in particular radiating the potential to have an interesting impact in her life if given the chance. I do have higher muse for DR muses at the moment, but I also think there could be an interesting dynamic with Ralsei and Dandie, being so similar and yet so different in the same breath, and the same kinda goes with Noelle! Especially since by default, I tend to play her after the events of a half completed ( and in one verse, fully completed ) snowgrave run which offers an interesting aspect given her being a young girl trying to find herself through a time of hardship and anxiety and very fresh trauma, and Jevil mostly because I think it could be fun <3 plus, Dandie I've noticed sometimes gravitates to folk of their chaotic nature :]

And of course, FNaF verse has a very wide array! Monty, Spring Bonnie, Mangle, Marionette, Toy Bonnie, OG Chica, OG Freddy, Plushtrap, Vanny, I've a cavalcade of options to throw at her, should any gel in particular!

I do think putting her in a box with Kris, Frisk or Jevil perhaps might be interesting, seeing the WIP state of a UT/DR verse in their carrd! Andy the Apple might also be neat sheerly due to the odd corrupted 'existing despite not being supposed to' situation he's in mirroring a cryptid status. Potentially Modeus, Karin or Anatoly could also be interesting; Modeus because of their aspect as a demon, and Karin + Anatoly as being VERY tied to the forest & folklore by sheer virtue of their story ( essentially being about a group of people fleeing from a country take refuge in a cabin and slowly starving as a storm prevents them from leaving, with the owner of the cabin having ties to the baba yaga ). there's some options!!!

━ @lncanting ;; ofc, theres the Wizard who I've already tossed at'cha in the past, and who I'm DEFINITELY open to expanding upon dynamic wise, but I also think there could be an interesting dynamic between Dustfinger! Dustfinger specifically stands out because in his case, he's a book character who was read out into modern reality and is struggling to cope with it in a world lacking the magic and fantasy of the world he came from, which could be VERY interesting and mesh very well imo with Noel!! I also think there could be something neat with Chica, Freddy, and Marionette with her, given how they're some of the oldest animatronics. Perhaps finding them out in the street after being scrapped between FNaF 2 and 3?

something with LN's Hunter or the Lady, or even Evren from Sacritice could also be neat, just based on vibes! Actually, Klaasje and Noel in particular would also be very fun, less because of the witchy aspect and more because just like. fucken girlbosses, i feel like Noel would like Klaasje's attitude or at the very least Klaasje would like Noel's BHKGBTR though, honestly Skullkid, Artemis, Ares, Hypnos, Zagreus, WD Gaster, the Doll, etc etc could all work n be very inchresting!!! Ranging from Skullkid following the same concept of a child lost in a forest becoming a creature to straight-up accidentally invoking Zagreus from the Underworld be it by invoking his name or via magic, they could all function vv well!! its verrry flexible!!

I know I kinda just rambled alot here, namely bc im tired irl rn, but if y'want to expand on shit, just DM me and I'll give you a brief summary of the gist of all the characters I listed + roughly what I think could work plotting wise when i can, so yeah!!! hope this helps with getting the ball rolling <333

My commentary:

I’m aware there’s quite a few ongoing and recent fan events right now that might have had Taichi or Koushiro involvement, but I was tied up with offline things; Thus, this time is an A.M.V. that is mainly Koushiro-centric, but TAICHI does get some quite good focus too, and, specifically, also their (Very Good) relationship! There is also some vid-style analysis on the dynamics of Izumi Family, as well as the Yagami Family. It’s also yet another "analysis” of Koushiro & Taichi in general, too. (Basically any of my other ships can also be read in, in varying combos.)

Notes:

This is the preliminary 1st version of this A.M.V. Hopefully you find some enjoyment as it is now though! The 1st part had taken about 45~ min already. The 2nd verse + chorus took about another 35~ min. This 3rd section took about 30 min at start, another 1 hr to wrap up scenes through the interlude, and already had a total of 1 crashing of my editor. The last segment took about 45 min total; Thus, total time spent on this? 3 hours and 35~ min or so. These may not be final scenes as I make future adjustments. (However, it came together well despite the crash!)

There is a tiny bit of scenery shots from beginning of Kizuna, then, by the interlude, some more notable Kizuna spoilers involving Taichi & Koushiro mainly, but you will see a scene involving Chosen. Tri spoilers, mainly Taichi & Koushiro supporting each other moments, are also added in the interlude and the ending; there are small moments from Saikai, Kokuhaku & Kyousei, mainly. The ends of Kokuhaku, Kyousei & Bokura no Mirai / Our Future are not spoiled, but there is lead-up. Kokuhaku middle-end spoiler occurs in the final chorus; a scene namely showing Taichi and Koushiro supporting each other (I’ve used it often in past A.M.V.s). A tiny Bokura no Mirai moment of just Koushiro is also included.

DigiAdv 2020 (for A.U. spinoff{s}) becomes included by the interlude (it’s mainly Koushiro moments from beginning + middle of Ep 36) However, it can also be seen as inclusive of wider Adventure{s} “canon”; and basically paralleling many of the following canon moments.

Deltarune x Undertale Theory: Kris Isn’t What They Seem...(And Flowey Is Chara)

[Note: Reading This Theory is Optional. also, please don’t reblog this without my permission.] 

okay, if anyone had notice but didn’t notice at first, and I don’t think I had at first.....

but when Kris is well, moving without the Player’s control in both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, and even when they are in the bathroom, suppose to be washing their hands, but instead pulls out the red soul.

the top of their hair, that normally has those two pieces of hair stick up...

isn’t there when they have the red soul out of them.

it might be possible that the Red Soul, while being the Player’s proxy soul...

it might also belong to the Original Fallen Human from the Undertale World.

travel between the two different worlds and realities, could still be possible.

the intro and the flashbacks that show a human that we assume is Chara, might actually be Undertale’s worlds own Kris.

Chara, might actually be the human that had the patience soul.

the human that has the patience soul, had a ribbon and a toy knife.

but it could be possible, that Chara might of been a creation much like Flowey.

it could turn out that Flowey isn’t just some flower with the dust memories of the original Asriel, and it might turn out that if we go down the Geno Route and if Flowey is taken out, it could end up causing the flower to transform into Chara.

or not, then again maybe that isn’t the case.

but it could be possible that Kris, from Undertale, was a sibling of both Asriel and Chara, but something happen to them that caused them to be forgotten.

which might have to do with Frisk, who came from the Hard Mode Timeline.

and for all we know, it could be possible that the red soul that is seen during Undertale, when we either go all Geno, Neutral or Pacifist Run....

it doesn’t truly belong to the Player or even Frisk, and it turns out that red soul belongs to Kris, while the red soul that is used in the generator to power the underground, and is in the true lab....that red soul, belongs to Chara.

and when we do head to the true lab, we don’t just go to the one we are suppose to go when we want to get the true pacifist ending, we first end up going to the other timeline we leave behind, when Undertale Kris’s soul is transmigrated from one version of Frisk’s body to another.

in the true lab, that we end up in, where it is in the Queen Toriel Timeline...

we find what appears to be a room with a large mirror with what seems to be Frisk’s reflection, but might turn out to be the Vessel of the Frisk we left behind when we reload and choose not to face the king yet and go back and end up finally getting a call from Undyne about Alphys.

it’s not until we go into the elevator in the true lab, and go through it to the other hallway, that we go back to the true pacifist timeline, otherwise known as the anomaly timeline, well that is my fan headcanon for it.

anyway I believe what we see in the true lab, when we end up in the Queen Toriel Timeline again....has the Frisk we leave behind, locked up, and that version of Frisk doesn’t really leave the underground in the Queen Toriel Timeline, and before they can leave, Alphys ends up stopping them and takes them to the true lab, all this happens when we the player, as well as UT-Kris’s red soul, ends up going back by reloading to where we were before we face King Asgore.

and it is possible that no matter if we give Chara UT-Kris’s soul or not, they will always end up being transmigrated to the Deltarune, no matter the outcome in Undertale.

it might be possible that the one who pulls UT-Kris out of Kris’s body, is the Kris from that world, and before the Player comes around, Kris (the good half that was originally from Undertale) had possibly lived in Deltarune for a few years before the Player comes around, and possibly causing the original Kris of Deltarune to wake up....but maybe before the Player comes around, and before the events of Chapter 1, the Original Kris has already awaken, and the good half of Kris that came from Undertale, was powerless to stop it.

and the white dust looking creatures from the dark world, might of been monsters that the Bad-Kris, had took there before...

but hopefully that theory is incorrect.

while the red soul, can still be the Player’s Proxy-Soul, it could still end up being the soul of the Kris from another world, before being placed in the Kris from Deltarune.

it can also turn out that Asriel had two adoptive human siblings, one of them being Chara and the Other being Kris.

but the Kris from Undertale, was forgotten, but it might be possible that only Asgore can remember them, or maybe he only remembers Chara.

Kris from Undertale being forgotten, could have to do with Alternation to the timeline of that world, and giving everyone there a false memories mixed with the real memories...

like it turning out Asgore never really killed any of the humans, because in the true pacifist ending, if we go back down to the basement, we will see that all the coffins (but the one with the red heart on it...) are all fully open.

this could mean that the human children, are brought back to life.

and maybe, they could of became Noelle, Catti, Berdly, Jockington and Susie.

there was the need of seven human souls to free all the monsters....

and if we don’t count Snowy, Monster Kid or even Temmie that is seen in Alphys’s class in Deltarune or the ones that appear in Undertale...

it could be possible that Noelle, Catti, Berdly, Jockington and Susie, we all originally human and were adopted by monster families.

and having Berdly, Susie, Noelle, Catti, Jockington and Kris put all together...

that well, that makes six, but for all we know, it could be possible the seventh human child to be “reborn” as a monster, could be Papyrus.

so the little brother of Sans from Deltarune, could of originally been human.

it be interesting if Sans’s little brother from Deltarune, ends up being a new kid in Alphys’s class, and well they don’t really have that many desks.

so maybe they will have to add three extra desks.

Noelle, Catti, Berdly and Jockington from Deltarune, might of been adopted by their monster families, but were originally humans but had become monsters a bit early, but have no memories of their human families.

Kris, the one from Undertale, could of been given a new start in life when they are placed into the body of Kris that was originally from Deltarune.

but in the light world, during the night, the original Kris would take back full control and rip UT-Kris’s soul out and place them either under the sink or in a cage.

Kris is still a good person, and the Player can have the choice to let them still be them without making them go all Geno Route.

it could be possible that the Kris, the one who was originally born in Deltarune, is different from the Kris from Undertale, and the rooms we can’t go in, in both Toriel and Asgore’s homes in Undertale, might of been rooms that belong to their youngest adoptive child, who they had named Kris...

in those rooms, might have a crib and baby toys, and pictures of Toriel, Asgore, Asriel, Chara and Baby Kris.

also it might be possible that the statue that is used as a memory of Asriel, might be more than just a statue and could be Prince Asriel’s body.

like even if the monsters do turn to dust when they die, it might be more than just that.

like while their physical body turns to dust, and their soul is suppose to disappear....but what if it turns out Chara’s soul might of kept the rest of Asriel’s original body from turning to dust with the other part of him...

or maybe, only half of his dust ended up falling and becoming Flowey, while Chara’s consciousness had split into two, one staying in their original soul that would be taken to the true lab, and the other becoming Flowey.

so that would mean that Flowey is both Chara and Asriel, or at least half of their original selves.

if this theory were true, then it could mean that the Chara part of Flowey might have amnesia, but once Flowey realizes that they are Chara, well half of Chara.

the memories of Chara’s human life will come back to them, and Flowey will finally understand why Chara hated humanity so much.

while Asriel in Deltarune is possibly still alive, but if the statue that was the fallen prince’s body from Undertale, were to end up in the dark world....

that would bring Prince Asriel back to life, but sadly if he leaves for the light world, he would be back to being a statue.

it could be possible that Flowey has always been Chara, their red soul might of ended up in that flower that would become Flowey, and when some of Asriel’s dust fell before becoming a statue, it ended up causing Chara’s soul to form a type of Imposter Syndrome, as well as Amnesia.

some of the dust that became a part of Flowey, is still Asriel, but it doesn’t have his soul, so it isn’t fully him, and only a few of his dust ended up on that flower that would have Chara’s soul that will become Flowey.

the red soul that is used to power the true lab, might turn out to be a artificial soul that was made by Doctor Gaster, by using magic cloning technology.          it could turn out that the red soul that is placed in Kris, might turn out to be another artificial soul clone of the original Chara.

Flowey has the original Chara’s soul, because their soul was the first one to be placed in the flower that would become Flowey, and when the flower was injected with determination, it caused Chara to get amnesia of their original self and with their siblings memories becoming a part of them, they formed a imposter syndrome.

even when they transformed into a copy of their brother, which might be thanks to the monster souls of their parents and the dust that had the original prince’s memories...

while in some timelines Flowey isn’t Chara and doesn’t have their soul...

but it could be possible in the true main timeline of the game, in all routes.

Flowey is Chara, but they have amnesia thanks to the experiments that were performed in the true lab.

because they end up remembering through the eyes of their sibling, Flowey started to believe they were Asriel, but they only have some of his dust that were absorbed into the flower, and when Chara’s soul and determination ended up in the flower that had Asriel’s memories...

it caused the True Original Chara to forget who they were and form a imposter syndrome where they believed they were originally Asriel.

it could be possible that Flowey’s true memories could come back to them while in the underground, as well as memories about how it was the cinnamon that they deadly allergic to had been the cause of their death, as Asriel was getting the flowers, but Chara never got to use them in the plan.

the other part of the title for this theory, was slightly different before.

but then the idea of the plot twist that Flowey is the Original Chara came to mind....

anyway besides the theory that Flowey is Chara who thinks they are Asriel and got amnesia and imposter syndrome thanks to those who were working in the true lab...

it might be possible that Kris, without the Player’s red soul in them.

might hold some dark secrets about them that might be revealed in the future.

the true Kris in the game, is the one who doesn’t have the two hairs on their head stick up, is the True-Kris. and if the red soul is a artificial soul clone of Original Chara’s soul, then they could be from Frisk who was the original vessel before True-Kris, and the red soul did end up being taken to the other world....that would mean Frisk will have their true self back in control, and that Frisk was originally from the Hard Mode Timeline.

and the Frisk from the Hard Mode Timeline, without the player’s influence, was no angel.

Sans from Deltarune, might of took his brother and a few others, to escape when Frisk’s original self started to resurface.

without the Player and the red soul, to keep Frisk from messing with the timeline and doing a No-Mercy runs whenever they pleased...

no one was truly safe, and it could turn out this could happen on the surface, and Frisk found a way to keep from going back underground.

Sans going back in the underground even if everyone was free, could mean he was going to try to fix the machine, so he and his little brother could leave for Deltarune, and only some timeline versions of Sans was fully successful.

there can be different theories about Kris, and we wont know which is the true Kris, until maybe in one of the future chapters of Deltarune.

but one of the theories about the original Kris before the red soul is placed in them....is that original Kris holds a dark secret about them, which might be revealed in the future. so yeah, there is more to them than we think and they are not what they seem. not all fans have to agree on every theory being possibly true.

like the theory I have that is about how Kris didn’t eat the whole pie at first, and had left the house and broke into the library and open up the dark fountain in the computer room before heading home and eating all the pie.

and like. for me im kinda like? idk not distraught enough to call myself torn or anything but it sure is a bit of a Huh moment to look at the way hsr operates w the community and all compared to genshin.

btw i have no like great morsels of wisdom here im just word vomiting some thoughts lmao

but like. logically (or should i say. rational- *GUNSHOT*) and purely from i guess the "hoyo" slash business pov. its 2 different games from different teams that belong to different genres and operate in vastly distinct environments in terms of like. competition and player retention. a turn based game like hsr isnt the kind of like. groundbreaking juggernaut that genshin was and is to this day (like. the famous "genshin killers" wya lmao). so to a certain extent at least its like. i can see how it affects this stuff i guess. genshin to this day hasnt felt the true pressure and need to care abt the community the way hsr is clearly angling more for.

but also imagine genuinely whiteknighting the genshin side of things to just settle for that excuse alone WDJWJKJWDKWD no fucking way 💀 like. that is Not the point im making at all. bc there comes a certain point where its just. yeah theres arguments to be made abt how the games differ and how hsr incentivizes pulling for and makes more new 5* charas and has no open world so needing to distribute f2p pulls thru other means is a must etc etc etc. but theres a point where that just falls flat.

and while i do agree the genshin community can strike up shitstorms that are more about outrage than anything substantial like. first anniversary with google classroom and all of that being a good example. but having Been there. while it was taken too far at points the reality of that saga always was about the cumulative community feeling hitting its breaking point. it was a lot of things accumulating and piling up in terms of frustration that led up to that 2.1 meltdown and honestly hoyo can only blame themselves. no need to relive that one too much my point just is that while for me (at least for now) im not feeling any of that like. deep hollow disappointment at realizing genshin will never truly beat (and arguably, i dont rly think its ever wanted to) the allegation of. the hsr team just being allowed much more freedom in terms of fostering goodwill w the community and stuff. i can still genuinely understand if this ratio thing for hsr ends up becoming another final straw for that feeling to rise up again for some genshin players. bc just like 2.1 this too is a cumulative thing. hsr is getting new gamemodes. constant massive QoL. freebies and limited-time events with permanent story and gameplay content. responding to and addressing tons of player complaints. genshin is... attempting some QoL? a tiny bit? like its just a whole situation.

and that feeling genuinely sucks. obviously dont attack random people like the cast or minor devs with no executive power or google classroom. or fuel this whole hsr vs genshin tribalism thats apparently athing. thats so stupid. fuck off. if i see another assassination attempt on dawei bc of hsr getting free fucking ratio i dont even know what to say 💀

but still its easy to be all "wow entitled terminally online gacha players" and yeah that can be true but i also dont like reducing all of that long term resentment from unaddressed complaints and issues and tiny disappointments accumulating over time for people who very much love genshin and want to be able to love it even more. to just like. haha greedy people want freebies. ofc hoyo doesnt owe us shit its a company and even with hsr this generosity shouldnt be turned into some parasocial "oh theyre on our side" thing. its just two games that want to make money. genshin and hsr both.

but it still sucks that theres such a discrepancy. and as long as ur not being toxic about how and when u express it i think that feeling is completely fair and valid. its not nice being passionate about a game and its potential while investing time and possibly money into it and still getting treated like shit year after year just bc genshin is still too successful to be forced into caring about us peasants lmao. venting and memeing and even sending appropriate complaints to hoyo are all fair game to me lmao. go wild

tho i will have to say that i do think the ultimate antidote to that feeling of disapppointment in particular imo still consists of touching grass like. its not good to be overtly attached to this stuff on an emotional level. i get why people would end up in that position esp given how genshin literally started during quarantine and was a massive source of comfort and joy in incredibly tough times for so many (myself included). but still. hoyo is simply not ur friend and ultimately its still just a couple of gacha games. finding other sources of happiness and comfort is v important. but being affected by this baseline isnt an individual failure or something wildly unreasonable at all.

for me im not too emotionally affected or anything but i cant deny this thing does have me thinking a good bit. as someone who naturally gravitates more towards genshins open world and its style of worldbuilding and aesthetic and its characters so even if i do enjoy hsr overall its just. a bit of a bitter taste u get in the mouth from all of this.

im not interested in discoursing on this or even like. protesting against hoyo particularly bc its clear that the genshin team has chosen its stance on the matter and i doubt another incident will really sway them much. the push will need to come from elsewhere if things are to ever change. im happy to get these freebies in hsr and i hope the game continues evolving and getting better bc it sure does have its flaws too. and the same for genshin. in a way a lot of the good in hsr is due to the hindsight 20/20 from genshins pitfalls and problems too (as well as arguably the literal sink or swim hsr faced from the poor reception to aspects of 1.0-1.3). unfortunately i doubt genshin would have the guts or be given the resources to retroactively address and fix those very same things in their own game. which is a shame.

anyway i dont have any particular point im going for with this i suppose i just wanted to get these silly thoughts off my chest. L + ratio to W + ratio was hilariously iconic and im still incredibly hype for all these things hsr has given us to look forward to even if the discrepancy with genshin does cast a shadow over this a bit. and i still love genshin and will keep playing it and keep hoping it can improve over time and get better. ultimately i care less about free ayaka at AR 42 becoming reality because "ratio hsr!!!1!1" than the devs genuinely investing the time and effort needed to make this game all the things it has the potential to be going forward. but im not holding my breath.

so yeah. if u stuck all the way with this whole situation u get a sticker. many thoughts in the head and you people following me are stuck with them im afraid JKJKDWJKWDJKDW

The [[ERROR 404, TITLE NOT FOUND]] (Three years later)

Frisk is running from Chara. They pause next to a dark shadow, and Chara leaps out and stabs them in the chest.

Frisk sits up quickly, breathing heavily. Sans wakes up and asks if they're alright. Frisk nods, and sees Chara in the shadows behind Sans. She shouts in surprise and warns him that there's something behind him. When he looks around, DeltaGore Chara disappears and reappears between Frisk and Sans. They stab Sans in the back.

Sans sits up and looks around. Papyrus wakes up and asks Sans what's wrong. He tells Papyrus that he just had a meta nightmare… and that he's gonna die. Insanity Sans takes out a knife and stabs Papyrus.

Papyrus wakes up quickly and takes in his surroundings. He's in the lab. Gaster opens the laser gate, and Papyrus is so startled that he almost kills Gaster. Gaster dodges Papyrus's attack. Gaster takes Papyrus to perform some tests on him. Asriel is there… for some reason. Gaster instructs Papyrus to kill the prince. Papyrus refuses, until Gaster threatens to kill Sans. InsanePlates Papyrus stabs Asriel with a sharp bone.

Asriel leaps to his feet and takes out his swords. His right one immediately is plunged into someone else's chest. That someone else just happens to be Kalohan.

I wake up, unsure if this is a dream or reality. I pinch myself, and it hurts, so I know that it is, in fact, reality. I look around and see AntiGlitchTale sitting on my bed stand. I check the most recent page. Jane has just ended a spontaneous event involving a Temmie offering her a hug. Temmie was on her computer screen with white eyes, and then, after having the offer refused, says "fineS" and disappears. I try to write in the book, but the ink doesn't appear on the page at all. "So-s-so-so-s-so," I mutter. "The narrators are taking a break, eh? I can-bre-I-eh-can't I can't write in it if [[THE GODS ARE SILENT]]." I put the book back on the bed stand. I get up and, through the power of glitches, I summon a bowl just after an old friend filled it with her amazing soup. That's what I have for breakfast. "I-I-I'm-I-I'm glad that [[Goat Lady]] made th-ma-glad-I'm glad that-made-I'm-Ourial-glad I'm-made that bowl of soup," I say. After the soup is gone, I get up, grab my sword, the Codebreaker, and head out the door. Ink greets me enthusiastically as I pass through the Doodlesphear. “Hey, Kalohan! Got any plans for today?” He says. I shake my head and go to Underfell. Fell Sans is just sitting on the couch next to Frisk. I stand in the shadows under the sink. Papyrus storms in, his pants around his ankles, looking for his belt. Little does he know that it is in my possession.

“SANS! WHERE IS MY BELT?” Papyrus shouts.

“i dunno.”

“SAAAANS!” he cries, “WHY ARE YOU NEVER HELPFUL?”

“but i am helpful. i’m keeping my eyesocket on the kid.”

I throw the belt, and it clatters on the floor. Papyrus hears it and investigates. “WHY IS MY BELT IN THE KITCHEN?”

Before I hear Sans’s answer, I go to the AntiVoid to see how Error’s doing.

“He-He-Hello Err-Hello Error.”

“Whaddya want, Raven?”

“I just came to [[GIVE A SWEET DEAL! A MONTH OF DESTRUCTION FOR FREE! ONLY $6.66!]] how you’re doing.”

“The deal was appealing, but no thanks.”

“The de-how-deal was just a… slip-up.”

“I see. Well, I’m fine, thanks for asking.”

“I need to [[Let’s-a go!]] now.”

I leave the AntiVoid and return to my timeline. It’s been ravaged by glitches. Both of the Sanses are still here, so there’s that. Gunner is shouting at Bero about his rounds being lost.

“WHERE ARE THEY, BERO? WHERE ARE MY ROUNDS!?”

“I don’t know, Gunner. Try looking in the armory.”

I interrupt the argument and toss Gunner his rounds.

“Here ya go, Gunner. Don’t let your temper go blasting next time, ‘ight?”

"Heh, fine. Also, who's this 'Jane' person? You keep talking about them in your sleep." Gunner taunts.

"Yes, Kalohan. Who is Jane?" Bero asks.

"Just the protagonist of this timeline that Ink gave me to observe."

Passing Hands: Chapter 11 - Stained Chivalry

Parting from the Duke is always a cruel reality but you knew that you could not possibly monopolise all of his time. The dance has to come to an end and the two of you bid each other farewell for the time being, going off on your separate ways. Each step you take still carries a distinct lightness to it, practically floating from the riveting conversation the two of you had while dancing. 

The buzz from the pleasant conversation and his small smiles rings strongly in your chest, palm resting against your heart in the hopes of being able to still the beating muscle but it does not matter for every time you glance over at him speaking to someone else his eyes meet yours. When that happens, he nods at you and offers you one of those slight smiles and you feel yourself melting for him all over again. 

To distract yourself from him you try to find conversation with some of the other attendees. It’s much more difficult than you thought, finding yourself unable to really enjoy any sort of conversation with them all. Their words feel so vapid and shallow, struggling to say anything of sustenance. To you, you can feel that they do not see you in the same way as His Grace does. He treats you like an equal and you know that he values your opinions and thoughts, not like some sort of doll that’s meant to sit pretty on a shelf. 

Regardless, it’s easy for you to sort them into specific categories, knowing which ones are promising suitors that you should keep cordial relationships with and which ones need to be tossed to the side. Even with all that sorting, you know truly that there is only one man you want to give all your honest efforts to and you let yourself stare off into space blankly about him, playing with the rim of your glass as the music plays softly in the background. It seems the band had swapped to heartfelt ballads. 

“Mind if I stand next to you?” a voice asks.

 You turn to them, expecting to see a familiar face but are met with a stranger’s. They offer you a charming smile and you curtsy, allowing them to introduce themselves to you. 

“Hello there. I couldn’t help but find that a beautiful woman such as yourself standing here all by her lonesome was really a true travesty. I am Viscount Remas. What might your name be?”

Of course to match his smile is an equally charming tone of speaking. It’s not uncommon to hear, especially considering the fact that you are at a ball. Everybody is speaking to each other in the same type of way and the coating of artificial sugar is slowly beginning to get more and more on your nerves, especially with the overly familiar way you feel he is stepping towards you.

“I am Miss [Name],” you reply to stay within etiquette without having to offer up more information that makes him feel even more obligated to your time. 

“What a lovely name for a lovely face,” he hums, reaching out as though to touch you before you step back. 

“I was wondering what you were doing here all by yourself. You seemed to have no shortage of suitors earlier this evening but now they’re all gone. I wonder why?” 

“I believe I may have exhausted all of the eligible bachelors at this event,” you say as a weak attempt at a joke. 

“Then why was I excluded?” he says with a frown. 

“You must know who I am. The Remas name is quite prominent after all. My father donates extensively to several charities and has several connections to other very prominent figures in society. Not to mention I would treat you much better than the Duke can, despite not being a Duke in title.” 

“I’m sorry, but I do not know who you are at all. Do you have a quarrel to pick with the Duke?” you respond, becoming just a bit more wary of him with every passing second.

“Not personally. I just don’t think that man knows how to treat people properly. He’s quite cold and reserved after all. Are you really sure he’s the match for you?” he says skeptically, raising a brow. 

“To be quite honest with you, I think you’d have a much better time being with me. I am also much more eligible than all of the other bachelors you’ve been spending your time with. Unlike them, I know a woman of value when I see one.” 

He reaches out for your hand and you take it from him, scoffing. 

“I don’t know what kind of game you think you’re playing at but I will not have any part of it!” 

“You were consorting with Lord Alberich and as I remember he’s much more forward than a small kiss on the hand is. I simply thought that it was alright with you,” he tries to reason, seeming very defensive. 

“Lord Alberich has no intention of courting me and therefore I was not “consorting” with him or whatever it is you would like to call it. The fact that you think you can come here and attempt to woo me in such boorish ways is much further beyond me than I think I could ever come to comprehend.” 

Feeling slighted, you decide it is now time to cut him, turning and trying to get lost in the crowd of people. However, the second you move away from him he follows after you, shoes clicking so much louder than the steps of others around you. You begin to feel anger rise up slightly in your chest, getting annoyed at how insistent he was beginning to try to be. Nothing’s stopping you from yelling at him and you decide that would be the best course of action, ready to give him a piece of your mind when a hand grabs you by the shoulder. 

You’re about to give them a piece of your mind too when you recognise it as His Grace, squeaking unceremoniously when he pulls you into his chest. The three of you are now being given a wide berth as everyone stares at the scene unfolding in front of them, watching with morbid interest. 

“What are you trying to do with Miss [Name]?” His Grace demands, voice dark. 

“I didn’t realise it was so inappropriate for me to talk to a perfectly eligible bachelorette. Tell me, is it wrong?” he taunts, clearly thinking himself to be in the right. 

“Do you not realise what you’re doing is absolutely mortifying for the Lady? Or did your staff never manage to tame that ego of yours Lord Remas?” Duke Ragnvindr bites back, loosening his grip around you to let you run should you want to but you stay close to him. 

“How rich coming from a man such as yourself. Do you not think it inappropriate to set your sights on only one woman, make her believe that you will stick by her by showing that you have no interest in any other match just to lead her to a path of loneliness as she waits for your attention?” 

The two men step closer and closer to each other and part of you wonders why nobody has stepped in to stop the argument, but also realise that the Duke’s protectiveness of you is stirring up some feelings that you want to keep feeling and therefore want to see how far they will be allowed to go. They’re practically glaring daggers at each other and if looks could kill you do not doubt there’d be a casualty on the floor right now. 

“You think she needs me? That is a strong, independent woman who is more than capable of making her decisions. Whether or not I choose her has no bearing on the work she has put in to endear herself to other gentlemen. Should our relationship not develop into a match I have faith that whoever she swears her life unto will be a very lucky man indeed,” the Duke hisses, looking dangerously close to grabbing the man in front of him. 

“Why do you care so much? Is it because you know you could have any person you wanted and chose some commoner to play around with so they couldn’t lash out at you for fear of being shamed out of society? Is it simply because you think I am “below you” just because I do not have the name and title you do? Why, it’s humiliating what you’re doing,” he spits back just as venomously. 

The entire hall goes silent and you swear if someone breathed a little too hard you’d be able to hear the expanding of their lungs. His Grace’s face shifts from annoyance to downright anger. Despite that, the Lord continues to push, clearly not realising the imminent danger he was in. 

“I suppose the only reason why you care so much about Miss [Name] specifically is because you’ve already had her for yourself. It sure would explain your attachment to her without even suggesting to her the idea that one day your name could be hers. Is that how far the Ragnvindr’s have fallen? First you adopt any orphan off the street, then you allow the only men who supposedly can inherit the title to behave as they would like? I’m sure that if your forefathers could see you now they’d hang their heads in shame.” 

“Why you-” 

You watch wordlessly as the Duke nearly launches himself at the other man, quickly held back by Mr. Kholer. The other man looks equally, if not more angry than the Duke, mouth set in a deep scowl and blue eyes screaming murder and yet somehow he manages to stay composed. 

“Have you no idea what that man has just said?” His Grace hisses trying to escape from the bigger man’s hold. 

“He insulted not just Miss [Name] but also my family! With the fact that our houses are to be wed, is that not a personal slight to your own home, or at least the judgement of your Lady?”

“On behalf of My Lady, I must ask you all to leave,” the Valet says kindly, voice not at all in agreement with the look on his face as he holds back the Duke from fighting the other man while he addresses the guests. 

“Please, do forget the events that transpired tonight. On behalf of the Kholer name I assure you you will all be compensated fairly for the atrocities you had to witness.” 

The courtyard is emptied in minutes, scandal slipping past everyone’s lips as they stare at the scene while leaving. You know that this is going to be an absolute pain to deal with later but the way that sweat beads on the face of the redhead that this is nowhere near done. 

“Lord Remas,” Mr. Kholer begins once the space is devoid of people, voice chilling to the bone. 

“You have made very powerful enemies today, enemies you will never be rid of. You came here under My Lady’s personal invitation and insulted not only a friend of hers, but the family she intends to marry into. It would not be enough to have you killed for such a slight,” he continues, mouth set in a deep scowl. 

“What? Do you really think she can do anything to me?” he scoffs, almost guffawing at the possibility. 

“She is a Lady of breeding, whether or not she acts like it. I sincerely doubt there is anything she could do to me that I cannot rectify on my own merit.” 

“Let me go!” the Duke grunts, practically trying to throw the other man off of him. 

“I cannot let you dirty your hands, Your Grace. It will only add further insult to My Lady. You see-” 

“He has insulted my guests under my invitation,” the Lady continues, finally reappearing. You see the look in the Duke’s eyes is mirrored in Lord Alberich’s as he brings her over and yet somehow he is barely managing to contain his composure unlike the redhead. 

“Therefore, I must take care of it myself. This is an issue I should have foreseen. I hope you realise that you are very lucky we are not back in my homeland for the lecherous words you just uttered, the fact that you decided to resort to insults to build up the fragile beast of a man you are, you would be dead right now. Even then, I do not care for you brought the names of others to those accursed things you call lips. I expect you to apologise.” 

“And why would I do that?” 

His self confident demeanour is maintained and you can see she is ready to join the list of people wanting to jump him. The look in his eye, the curve of his smirk, it's enough to make you want to go over there and hit him yourself. Lord Alberich holds onto her arm tightly, whispering something into her ear you are sure she cannot hear. 

“If you do not apologise I am very sure I can make you regret the fact that your mother pushed out some poor excuse of a son. You will apologise and if you will not then you will let us berate you more until we feel some sort of solace for the fact that demons decided to place their spawn in my courtyard,” the Lady practically growls, jaw set harshly as she stares him down.  

It takes you a second but you formulate your words perfectly, just as angry as everybody else in the room. Everyone has fallen silent as they wait for his response, a thinly veiled anger coating the space. They all turn to you as you take a breath to begin speaking. 

“The second you began to speak to me it was quite obvious that you aren’t even in possession of a fourth of a brain. Whatever you have up there in that head of yours is much more suited to be put in the brain of a pig and would be put to much better use. I don’t know what possessed you to think yourself God’s gift to the Earth but if that statement were to be true I’m sure that we are standing in purgatory,” you add just as bitterly as the others.  

“Do you not see how this looks?” Lord Remas continues. 

“It’s simply all of the same people ganging up against me. Now Ragnvindr, you may be a Duke but you know that does not scare me at all. I’m sure it would take no effort at all for me to usurp that righteous attitude of yours and make sure you find yourself resting next to that poor excuse you once called Father.” 

The second the word leaves his mouth you see Lord Alberich punch the daylights out of him, the man falling to the ground from the impact. He’s furious, the Duke staring at the man in openmouthed shock. 

“Do not dare speak ill of the late Duke Ragnvindr. To have his name leave your lips is akin to the Devil’s tongue speaking praises of God. But, if you’d like to continue I’m more than glad to keep going,” he growls, flicking his wrist as though to prepare for another strike. 

“His honour is something that you will never be able to strip away from him no matter how hard you try. You may insult me all you want but the second you begin to spout such heresy is the second I will make sure you pay for it..”

The Duke has finally been let out of the Valet’s grasp, stepping over to his brother and trying to calm him down. He manages to talk down the other man a little and you watch as Lord Alberich catches his breath before the Duke walks over to you. 

“Are you alright?” he asks you in a hushed tone, eyes keeping track of his brother. 

“I will be fine. What of you? He has insulted you and your family over and over,” you scowl, wanting to plant just as harsh a punch on his face. 

“I am very appreciative of your concern but trust me, nobody recovers from Kaeya’s punches. That man will feel that sting on his face for the rest of his life and it will still not be enough. Especially not for the way he disparaged your name like that.” 

The anger he feels on your behalf adds another tally to the list of things you’re beginning to learn about him, his sense of justice clearly coming out as he tries to calm down Lord Alberich. The Valet does the same for his Lady and you feel out of place, staring at the man groaning in pain. 

The Duke returns to you, giving you a tired smile. 

“There is much to sort out now because of this issue. Worry not - I shall most definitely check on you in the morning. I would hate for you to feel uncomfortable thanks to this buffoon, bumbling idiot that he is.” 

“What about your brother? And the Lady? Those accusations were levied against them as well.” 

He exhales loudly, shrugging. 

“There is a chance that they will simply need to hide out from society for a while until they all move on to the next piece of gossip. You are in a much more perilous position which makes it imperative that I will do all I can to ensure that you are not seen as compromised.” 

“You don’t need to do all that for me, really. I’m sure you have much more-” 

“I am doing it because I want to,” he says with a tone of finality, the look in his eyes protective. 

“Do not think it is because I think you are weak for that is furthest from the truth. I just think that it will hinder things for you socially should I not take care of the seedlings this man has planted in the brains of others. I do not wish for people to spread such horrid untruths about you and that is that.” 

You nod slowly, knowing that there’s no way out of this with him. His jaw is set harshly and you can practically hear his teeth grinding as he tries to think of what to do next and in a fit of concern for him you grab his hand and lace your fingers between his. 

“Do not worry for whatever happens I will stay by your side,” you reassure him, thankful that he seems to calm down a little with his touch. 

Perhaps it is the privacy that you are all afforded with the disappearance of the guests or the crash of adrenaline through his veins ceasing but whatever it is it allows him to rest his forehead on your shoulder gently, taking a shaky breath. 

“Thank you. Were it not for you keeping a cool head about this I am sure I would have murdered that man for speaking so lowly of a woman I have come to respect,” he says lowly. 

You are none the wiser as to the fact that this is how Diluc Ragnvindr began to find himself lost in the wonderful mystery that was you, the brightly burning flames of passion he has towards everything he does in his life beginning to glow brighter at the prospect of your affections.
