@rcmancedawn continuation from here
The knowledge alone was already powerful, especially for a pirate like him. And if he were with lesser morals he would use the fact that she was more or less stuck on his ship due to their alliance to his advantage. It wasn't every day one found out about the fleet admirals daughter. He knew that many others would do exactly that. But he had never been like that. Never would be.
Her question prompts him to give a light chuckle, followed by the shaking of his head and a crooked smile. "Nah. You're not your old man. Wouldn't be fair to judge you, based on his actions." Like the marines had done with Ace. He hadn't forgotten that. They had damned him for being Rogers son, as if the kid had chosen that fate.
He props his chin up on his hand, still observing her and her reaction. "Don't worry. No one else heard what you said." They had been mostly out of it as well, to drunk to listen or even care. "Well, except Beck, but he wont say anything either and neither will I." He paused for a moment. "Does the rear admiral know the truth?"

The fact is that most “crossdressing boy” mangas we have nowadays can trace their lineage back to Stop Hibari-Kun (1982) which carried the same general premise of the male lead being confused by an amab love interest who dresses as a woman, but critically also had the context of Hibari explicitly being a trans woman who hid this fact from her peers. This gave her a real, grounded reason to be the way she is.
Without the love interest being trans, the modern crossdressing boy trope just functions entirely on make-belief scenarios of a guy just randomly deciding to come to school as a girl one day while skirting around the obvious trans implications with little more than a “nuh-uh he’s still male because I said so”, and once you recognize that’s what’s going on it becomes hard to see most crossdressing boys in media as little more than a kind of tourist version of attraction to trans women, letting cis readers live out a fantasy of trans sexuality without ever having to engage with the reality of the problems real trans people face. We saw this in action recently with the confirmation that Bridget from Guilty Gear is canonically a transgender woman: a lot of people were outraged at the idea of not being able to have sexual fantasies about her without acknowledging that she was transgender.

Ray, more of the Assassination Classroom Fem!Tsuna hit. This is entirely your fault, so you get to deal with it.
Tsuna has a sinking feeling in her gut the first day of middle school. She gets turned around and mixed up, and somehow she ends up on a bus, and she’s racing through the woods and into a classroom full of strangers. She’s too embarrassed to say anything so she slinks into a seat in a corner. She’s in the wrong school, the senpai at Namimori Middle have her in entirely the wrong town. Even a dame like her can recognize Kunugigaoka uniforms. Hibari-senpai is going to be so angry with her.
Nothing could have prepared her for Koro-sensei. — Tsuna is petrified. She’s too young for this. After all the ruckus, everyone’s attempts, that’s all that rings in her head. She’s too young for this. She’s not even supposed to be here. — Tsuna is stuck. She can’t afford to take the bus, or the time to take the bus, from Namimori everyday. In retrospect, she really does have to hand it to her old senpai. They’d gotten up early to ‘walk her to school’ and paid to get her on the bus. But it’s coming close to the end of the day, they’ve come no closer to assassinating Koro-sensei, and she doesn’t have bus fare home anyway. She’s not even sure Mama would be able to keep it together long enough to come get her.
Everyone in Namimori knows her Mama needs, help sometimes. Everyone is glad to give it to her. Tsuna just doesn’t trust that anyone would think helping her Mama help Tsuna would be a good thing. — Trembling, Tsuna stays in her seat at the end of the day. What should she do? What can she do? She’s just Dame-Tsuna, in the wrong grade, in the wrong class, in the wrong school, in the wrong town. She keeps her head tilted down to allow everyone to ignore her tears.
A gentle touch to her shoulder makes her flinch. She tilts her head up to see Koro-sensei standing at her shoulder. — Calling Mama was useless, just like Tsuna knew it would be. She’s just thrilled that her “Dame-Tsuna” managed to get into the prestigious Kunugigao despite her, everything. Tsuna loves her mama, she does. But sometimes Tsuna thinks she could hate her a little too. Karasuma-sensei and Koro-sensei are both very angry.
Tsuna wants to cry that it’s not her fault. Mama tries to love her and pay attention to her, but Mama is sick. Something doesn’t work right in Mama’s head, like something doesn’t work right in Tsuna’s. But while whatever went wrong in Mama’s head means that she has a hard time remembering things if she doesn’t see them, whatever’s wrong with Tsuna is just everything. — They get her an apartment. It’s close to the school and a market. It’s basic and bare and empty and tiny, but Tsuna supposes she’s tiny so that makes sense. Karasuma-sensei is her neighbor, but she’s left to basically make it on her own. She gets a small stipend, the only one in class to do so. It’s not much, but it should be enough for groceries.
She doesn’t know how to cook. She never learned how to do what her homework is asking her to do. At least she can tell herself it’s because it’s work two grades above her and not just because she’s dame. — Karasuma-sensei is kind enough to get her to school the next day. He’s also nice enough not to say anything about her still red eyes, or how long she sobbed last night. He just handed her a handkerchief.
Tsunami can’t remember the last time someone was so kind to her. She waits for the ridicule to start, but it never comes. — After a few days, when it becomes obvious and impossible to ignore that she’s just as stuck here as the rest of them, Nagisa-senpai gives her a girl’s uniform. It’s big on her, but at least she doesn’t stand out this way. As much.
Tsuna pricks her fingers bloody, and her stitches are crooked, and the seams are bulky, but at least it kind of fits her a little better now.

I've been busy with my classes and commissions (which by the way, are still open here) so I decided to bring you a commission for a mini-comic about Akainu and Fem!Rosinante with a Hibari between 6 and 8 years old(?
Hibari has no mother (she might be adopted, she might be dead, you decide) and we already know Cora's tendency to take care of other people's children as if they were her own. Akainu is fine with that because she trusts Sengoku's daughter, but gossip is fast and everyone starts to doubt whether Rosi and Hibari are too much alike by pure coincidence or not.
It can be read as a shipp between Akainu and Rosi or a weird friendship, it doesn't take the fun out of it hahsjs.

SHIMON ARC: Hibari to Tsuna
Recently I've been liveblogging my Shimon arc reread to my friends.
On chapter 323 one of them said they always wondered if the headband being there meant something. And yes, curtains might be blue because it's a nice color. But no. No, curtains being blue is incredibly goddamn important.
HEAR ME OUT
First, to recap what is happening: Shimon arc, pre Adelheid vs Hibari battle they briefly argue about Tsuna and Enma and decide on their pride and the rules of the battle: to seize each other's handband. Adelheid creates an ice prison that is impossible to penetrate from outside and 500 ice clones to fight Hibari. He fights them all, tells Adelheid she is wrong about Enma and small animals (which i will talk about later) and uses minirolls to crush the ice fort from the inside. After this he gets her handband, they talk about Tsuna again and Hibari drops his "it is because of the sky the cloud can float freely" thing.
Before I delve into it, however, I feel like I should take a quick dive in Tsuna-Hibari relationship from Hibari's perspective.
To put it simply, at first Hibari does not give a single fuck about Tsuna personally. Even after this glorious scene happens
All Hibari thinks about that day is that he wants to meet Reborn again. During the course of Daily life arc however Hibari messes with him plenty. Ny the time 43rd chapter (sakura viewing) rolls around, Hibari's opinion on Tsuna is summarized by this:
And this is actually the key. Hibari does not understand Tsuna. To him Tsuna is some weird ass alien creature who does not fit his rigid worldview. At first Hibari tries to make him make sense again by asserting himself over Tsuna and putting him back to the role of herbivore which he does follow every time except when he doesn't?? For some reason?????
Kokuyo arc is the arc that changed the manga tone in general but it's also the arc that changed Hibari himself. He is brutally shown that he as he is does not have the power to do whatever he wants. Something has to change. And Hibari seeks that change in Tsuna, who somehow managed to defeat Mukuro when Hibari himself failed.
chapter 123, cloud battle aftermath
He stops trying to still Tsuna. Instead he wants now to understand what the fuck is up about him and what can he do. The answer is Tsuna can burn a man alive in a fit of rage btw.
BUT THE THING IS. THE THING IS EVENTUALLY HE DOES UNDERSTAND TSUNA. AND THIS LEADS US TO TAKE A LIL BREAK FOR THE PRIDE TALK
Now, the obvious thing: headband symbolizes Hibari's pride.
Here is what he says, when first asked about it:
But also Hibari vs Adelheid battle is the one that finally clears up what the hell does "pride" mean.
The thing is. What Hibari is saying (and what he tried to make Tsuna understand, because the whole battle here his two goals are to win (duh) and to help Tsuna find his conviction again) is that the actual meaning of "What is your pride?" is "What makes you yourself?". You, as a person, should be proud of who you are. And he tells Tsuna, that it is whatever he cannot give up, whatever makes the very core of Tsuna's self is what he should fight for (And then Tsuna tells Enma "You are my pride" which is very juicy but deserves its own post).
Okay, now with this out of the way, let's get to the next thing:
Hibari vs Adelheid (but not the violent edition)
Hibari and Adelheid are not only fighting, they are also talking to each other. And by talking I mean arguing. About Tsuna and Enma and little animals.
Here is important thing to note first: asking around some people who know some people who know japanese gave me information that actually "small animal" is. Not different from herbivore at all. They are apparently used intechangingly based on how much space speechbubble has.
This does affect things: when it is usually thought that Tsuna in Hibari's eyes carves a new category for himself, not worth calling by name nor insulting nickname, nor he can be classified as a simple herbivore, he is just his own thing. Instead it seems like Tsuna changed Hibari's opinion on entire population of herbivores-small animals. (and if those people just got me confused ill die of shame (;-;)b)
ANYWAY, THEIR DEBATE
yes i had to put it all here. it's good. read it.
Do you see it guys? Do you see how far he came from daily life? He now really does understand Tsuna. He cracked the code. And he does now acknowledge that yeah Tsuna (and by extention other ppl like him. Like Enma) has his own way to live life and it does work for him. Tsuna is not weak. Being a herbivore does not automatically mean being weak.
Another interesting thing here is this:
"Why is a man like you with the likes of Sawada Tsunayoshi?"
"I'm not with him"
And I think it's important to remember here that Adelheid does see Tsuna=Vongola boss thing. To Tsuna it's Him and His Friends against Enma and His Friends. To her? It's Vongola vs Shimon
And when she talks to Hibari about Tsuna, she is saying "Why are you with Sawada Tsunayoshi?" but what she means is "Why are you with Vongola?" and this difference does impact Hibari's answer. Case in point:
I DON'T LIKE THE WAY YOU SAID THAT... WELL... TRUE ENOUGH.
BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE CLOUD GUARDIAN OF THE VONGOLA'S SKY? ACCORDING TO WIKI, THIS:
A drifting Cloud, whom cannot be bound. Protecting the famiglia from an independent standpoint.
AND SO
I am sorry, I am very normal about this, promise.
And so Hibari basically admits that he will not be bound to Tsuna, but he will be around, involving himself when he feels like it. They're friends your honor.
BUT THERE IS MORE.
The attribute of the cloud flames is propagation. Why is it relevant?
this is the hype up text at the end of chapter 322.
and this is the last page of chapter 323.
Remember i briefly mentioned Hibari stagnating in daily life arc and realizing that there must be something more during Kokuyo arc? He found it. Tsuna is the one who gave him this opportunity. Just being around Tsuna allowed Hibari to grow. To propaga- Okay, that does sound silly. But I think the point still stands. Tsuna gave Hibari space to grow, and frankly, Hibari is grateful for that.
now we are entering the deranged territory
Hibari watched Tsuna grow all during the course of the manga and at some point Tsuna DID outgrow him. Not psychologically, but powerwise? Def. And Hibari cannot be not aware of that.
You might ask, how is he okay with that, but the thing is, Hibari is actually very chill with not being the strongest person in the room. What he actually needs is people to respect him and his authority as Disciplinary Committee chairman and Namimori protector. Reborn respects it and is stronger than him. Does Hibari want to fight him? Yes. But he is not actually going out of his way to attack him.
Tsuna has a great deal of respect for Hibari, and in turn Hibari does not feel the same hostility to him he does towards Mukuro despite Tsuna being totally able to win against him in a fight. Once again, rip Byakuran.
BUT. HIBARI IS NOT GOING TO STOP GROWING ANYMORE. HE LEARNED HIS LESSON, HE IS NOW ENDLESSLY EVOLVING OR SOME SHIT.
AND
WHAT I AM SAYING IS
HE IS NOT ONLY NOT GOING TO STOP HELPING TSUNA TO BE BETTER BUT HE ALSO IS GOING TO USE TSUNA AS BENCHMARK
NOT AS SOMEONE TO BE LIKE. BUT SOMEONE TO BE BETTER THAN
THE PRIDE AS SYMBOL OF SELF AND AND THE BAND AS SYMBOL OF PRIDE
AND DISCIPLINE BEING THE KEY TO BETTERMENT OF SELF
HE DECLARES TSUNA BOTH HIS FRIEND AND HIS RIVAL THATS WHAT THE BLUE CURTAINS MEAN I REST MY CASE
#katekyo hitman reborn#khr#hibari kyoya#sawada tsunayoshi#the most stupid thing is that i call tsuna and adel by their names but i just#i cant type kyouya it feels wrong to call him that#nor does calling tsuna sawada feels right#i can't#you will have to tolerate this disrespancy#never want i hear that hibari has no character arc#it's RIGHT THERE#NOT EVEN THAT SUBTLE REALLY

Chapter 1117 Spoilers
Ahhh. I'm quivering. We don't get Law, but we get!
Bepo and Bepo is thinking about Captain (so he's not dead, and neither is Bepo...All patched up with his little bandage). Not too distraught, so I'm trusting the Hearts are okay, AND
Will of D. <3
The scans say that the Japanese ends with mo (も), which can be a conjunction similar to 'and' (or is it a particle? I don't know). BUT, could also be the beginning of a name or noun (Momonosuke). Or extra thing (more...)
BUT, it's interesting that all are named or shown, bar Law. Bepo of course is a representative, but where is Law? Also, I don't think the navy knows about Law's status (so I don't know if Vegapunk did), BUT intriguing. Where is Jaguar D. Saul? (maybe Oda forgot him, or there will be another reveal).
Honorable mention to this D. too!
Vivi! Shown, but not named. (Interesting that the Wiki lists her as a D. by the way, but not Law's family. I think it's an oversight for Law).
Ah, Robin and Law must be champing at the bit. I'm hoping Law's not part of SWORD, but I'll roll with it if he is (just looking at those backgrounds). Bepo's is similar to the marines featured. Also, I hope that Law's listening in!
Ay-oop! look who washed up on the soar! Heh-heh. Shore. Our favourite ancient zoan, Drake. So, he saved Garp and Co? I wasn't sure which Captain Kujaku was referring to here (below)).
It doesn't seem very Garp-like to want space. I am betting that Hibari is Akainu's granddaughter rather than daughter in the way that Kujaku is Tsuru's granddaughter, and Luffy is Garp's grandson, because it makes sense (generation-wise), and ties into the "It's our turn to step up" line from Kujaku. Interesting!
Anyway, just popping in to drop a bit of excitement. It seems the iron giant got blitzed, but I'd say it's its own form of ancient weapon, so it might not be over and out yet. I wanted to repost what Sandman said on Twitter last week, and which I also thought:
The Japanese has 'tanoshimi' (enjoy, fun, etc.) in quotation marks, which strikes me as maybe Rayleigh being sarcastic. For example, what knowledge has the older generation withheld from the younger? and is that withholding a benefit to them, or does it just make it that much harder for them to find the truth? (and increase their chances of being in danger?)
Speaking of which, do you think Rayleigh will survive? Does he know too much? Knowing Oda, he will, but it's curious that there are remnants of the crew out there with all the answers that others are seeking.
Of course, the true history and Will of D. and One Piece are not necessarily of equal weight, but man, Oda's not discounting any of them either!
Just rambling. Also, link to Sandman's post.
OOH, I almost forgot. Talk about gritty characters (even if they're made of smoke)
Smoker!!! It's been too long. Good to see ya'! (where there's Smoke there's Law...maybe? Heh-heh. Just joshing. They look good together, though).
Another also bit! It's way at the end of my post but at the beginning of the manga: Pearl's look has always reminded me of the Pearl Diving bells (or the helmets divers wore), so I think it's clever of Oda to place him at the section where they're talking about exploring below the sea.

matching jammies - nejiten week '24
day 2 - gezelligheid (dutch) A convivial, cozy, or warm atmosphere. The warmth of being with loved ones, or seeing a friend after a long absence.
The snowstorm outside didn’t seem to be willing to relent anytime soon, but that wasn’t all that unusual for late December in Konoha. Blankets of pure white snow coated the streets and slicked the windows, creating the idealistic picture of a winter wonderland. It was the perfect setting for creating snow angels or having a snowball fight, Tenten thought, but with them coming up on the coldest month of the year, she couldn’t imagine getting pelted in the face with snow in these particularly frigid temperatures would be very comfortable.
Which was particularly why she’d insisted on everyone staying inside that day, much to her twins’ absolute and utter dismay.
“It’s getting pretty late,” Tenten murmured, brows furrowed, and bit down on her bottom lip. Her eyes flicked up to the clock once again, almost instinctively, and she was again met with the fact that Neji was supposed to be here hours ago.
Despite the world being fairly peaceful, the Fourth Great War having ended five years ago (along with the whole ‘let’s blow up the moon!’ thing from three years ago), shinobi were still needed, and especially capable Jōnin like Hyūga Neji. This time, he was tasked to lead a team of two Chūnin on a mission in the Land of Silence. She didn’t know anything past that, though— he wasn’t allowed to share any specifics with her, but she imagined she had a basic idea of the objectives.
Tenten knew he could take care of himself and of those with him, she trusted him implicitly, honestly, but whenever he was late coming home from missions, she still couldn’t help but worry.
What if he was hurt? What if his subordinates were hurt? What if they encountered—
“Mamaaaaaaa,” a sulky voice came from behind her, little feet padding on the kitchen floor and cutting her train of dreary thoughts short. She could practically hear the pout that was surely on her two year old daughter’s lips. “When’s Papa coming home?”
Ah, yes. And then there was this little munchkin. Tenten had accidentally fallen pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl, two years ago, around this time. Thankfully, it was a fairly easy pregnancy.
Too easy, in fact, to the point where they didn’t find out until around seven months in. By chance, at that. Was quite the way to celebrate Neji’s twenty-first, that one.
(And then it was even more surprising when they went for their first checkup and found out they were having, not one, but two children. But that’s a story for another day.)
The brown-haired woman sighed, picking her adorably sleepy—though Hibari was vehemently insistent on denying this—daughter up. “Soon, baby.” She planted a kiss on Hibari’s cheek and fixed her sweater, absently wondering if she should turn the heat up a little more. “Are you cold?”
Hibari shook her head, tiredly nuzzling into Tenten’s neck. “Can we play in the snow, at least?” Unlike her twin brother, Hibari was very vocal. Sakura told her that they were both incredibly advanced for their age, speech-wise, but Hibari was a lot more outgoing than Hao, and therefore a lot more chatty.
If there was someone who did not let her terrible grammar and weird conjugational habits (like exclusively using the word ‘talk’ in the past tense, no matter what) stop her from speaking her mind, it was Hyūga Hibari.
“It’s too cold right now,” Tenten responded, repeating that same explanation for what seemed like the millionth time that night. And then, in a playfully chiding tone, she said, “And it’s too late now, anyway. It’s way past your bedtime.”
Hao was already asleep on the couch, wrapped up in Tenten’s knit throw blanket, having gotten too tired to stay up waiting for his dad. It was a valiant effort, and Tenten didn’t blame him— it was just past midnight by now, and she frankly wished Hibari would just let herself sleep, too. And, well, he was also two years old.
“You sure you’re not sleepy?”
“Yeah.”
“Sure?” Tenten walked back to the living room and folded herself on the couch next to Hao’s sleeping form. Hibari nodded again and nuzzled into her mom’s chest.
A tell-tale sign that she was about to surrender to sleep.
Smiling, Tenten reached over to grab the second throw blanket they had draped over the couch, and adjusted it over the two of them
“Wanna watch a movie?” she asked, voice quiet so as not to wake up Hao. Tenten’s master plan was to put on a Christmas movie, have Hibari utterly entranced and engaged for, like, thirty minutes, before she would inevitably fall asleep. Worked every time.
When Hibari replied in the affirmative and Tenten put the movie on, she was finally free to fret over her husband once more.
And so they sat there; all three of them on the couch next to each other, Tenten and her two chunky two year olds, bundled up in cosy Christmas pyjamas and warm knit blankets. It was a sweet sight.
︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶
When Neji quietly unlocked the front door of his house and walked in, absolutely and utterly exhausted from that week-long mission abroad, he was surprised to see that warm, yellow light coming from the living room.
Hm. It was probably one of two things: either Tenten was still awake, probably reading or watching a movie (she did that sometimes after the kids went to bed, taking advantage of any alone time she could get), or Tenten was reading or watching a movie, and ended up falling asleep on the couch. Also a likely possibility, and usually an inevitable consequence of the former.
With a small, amused huff, Neji took off his cloak and hung it up by the door, and stepped over the threshold. “I’m home,” he said lowly, if only out of habit rather than out of a real need to alert his wife. As expected, no response came. He made his way to the living room, where a large, prettily-decorated Christmas tree sat in the corner, dimly illuminating the room along with the fairy lights Tenten had strung around. The only other source of light was the television, which was playing one of Tenten and Hibari’s favourite holiday movies (Hao found it a little too scary), The Nightmare Before Christmas. The volume was very low, though, and the credits had started playing at some point before he walked in.
And again, as expected, Tenten was asleep on the couch.
Her long, brown hair was unbound, falling in waves over the back of the couch, and her lips were slightly parted, making way for quiet huffs of air. What surprised him upon walking closer, though, was the toddler laying on her chest, and the other one asleep next to her thigh. All in matching red and white pyjamas, by the way.
He sighed, exasperated but without any real annoyance. He should’ve known they’d wait up for him. Or, well, try to wait up for him.
It was touching.
One of Tenten’s hands was automatically patting Hibari’s back, as if by muscle memory—which meant she mustn’t have fallen asleep that long ago—while the other was holding the remote. Silently and with the easy grace of a seasoned shinobi, he grabbed the remote control from her lax grip (which, okay, wasn’t difficult whatsoever), and turned the television off, before walking to the corner of the room and turning both the decorative tree lights and the string lights off. He was starving and in desperate need of a relaxing bath, but he would carry all three of them to bed before making something to eat. They’d gone through the trouble of trying to stay up and welcome him home, but the mission had unexpectedly dragged on, and with the snowstorm outside, it had all delayed their travel plans. So the least he could do for them was to tuck them in.
“Neji?”
He turned around at the whispered proclamation of his name.
“I’m home,” he said simply, smiling tiredly at his wife. She blinked rapidly, as if trying to dispel the sleepiness, and gently set Hibari down. “I’ll come to you,” he said hurriedly, noticing how tired she was and not wanting her to get up. It was fine that she’d woken up, he supposed—he could still carry her to bed regardless. At the last second, he decided to keep the fairy lights that were strung behind the television on. Despite his words, Tenten still got up and quickly made her way to him, meeting him halfway.
“Welcome home,” she murmured into his chest once she was close enough, having all but thrown herself at him. Her hands grabbed onto the back of his shirt, as if of their own accord. She exhaled, “I missed you.” Immediately, a pair of strong arms wrapped around her, and he basically crushed her to him.
“I’ve missed you more than you can imagine, my love,” Neji breathed tiredly, inhaling her sweet smell, and both of them were content to stay in that embrace for a long moment. She could feel the tension leave his body—the way his toned muscles relaxed under her touch and his shoulders drooped. And Tenten honestly would’ve been content to stay like that for the rest of the night, practicality be damned, but much to her dismay, Neji’s arms loosened around her. She pouted at the loss of contact, and made a sound that was much more fit for her daughter to make than it was for a twenty-three year old woman. He rolled his eyes, amused, and planted a kiss on the top of her head. “I’m sorry. I probably smell. I’ll hug you all you want after I shower; I promise.”
Tenten braced her hands against his chest and stood on her tippy-toes, promptly kissing his scruffy cheek. “You really don’t,” she said honestly. “Smell, I mean.” And it was true—even after a week-long mission with no access to his nice soaps and fancy shower products, Neji still smelled nice. Because everything else wasn’t enough, he just had to add ‘always smells good’ to his résumé, apparently. With a yawn, she said, “I’ll go put the kids in their beds and then I’ll heat up your food while you shower and change into something comfortable.”
He covered her hands with his, rubbing gentle circles across her knuckles. “You don’t have to do that,” he argued softly. “You can just go to sleep, darling. Really, I can do the rest.”
She hummed. “I know I don’t,” she yawned again, “but I want to.” She had already turned around and started gently extricating the blanket out of Hao’s grip, and the look she gave him over her shoulder dared him to argue, and while the refutation was at the tip of his tongue, he let it die.
“Thank you,” he murmured, wrapping his arms around her from behind. He spoke so sincerely, brushing her ear with his lips, “You’re incredible.”
She grinned at him, and with an adorable little wink, teased, “I know.”
︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶
Once she heard the water shut off, Tenten started heating up Neji’s share of their dinner that night—homemade herring soba. This would’ve been so much better fresh, she thought, a touch sadly. She’d gone through the trouble of making everything from scratch (save for the smoked fish, of course), and she would’ve loved if he had gotten to taste it right after it was done. Oh, well. It wasn’t like she regretted putting in the effort regardless— she didn’t have much to do today anyway.
Soon enough, Neji walked out of their room in a matching pyjama set in his size and a towel around his neck. Once his eyes found her and then fell on the bowl of noodles in front of her, it was like his whole body softened. His gaze softened, and his shoulders dropped.
This girl, he thought, was sure to be the death of him.
“C’mere,”
She obliged, pushing herself off the table with a small smile. The moment she was close enough, he pulled her into a rough hug, lifting her off the ground. Over the past few years, Neji had, not unlike some of their other friends, grown considerably in height. When they were teenagers, he’d had some two inches over her, but now, at the age of twenty-three, that difference had increased to what must’ve been something like nine, if she had to guess. His body had filled out considerably, too. (The wonders of testosterone, am I right?) After the War and his fatal injury, he had had to spend upwards of a year recovering and recuperating, and then he had to spend the next year regaining his strength and training, little by little, but he managed. It was a miracle he’d survived in the first place, though.
The curse mark had disappeared, removing any doubts that he could’ve been alive, but somehow, medics found a very weak pulse, which was enough for them to work with. It was so on brand for him, though—denying the odds so intensely.
Tenten squeaked gleefully, the noise dissolving into giggles when he pressed his lips to hers. “You,” he was saying between bruising kisses, “are not real.” She looped her arms around his neck and wrapped her legs around his middle, giggling into the kiss but unable to come up with a witty comeback of any kind. “God,” he groaned, “I love you so much.”
Ah, there it was.
She grinned against his lips, and mustering up her most annoying, smart-alecky voice, she interjected, “Um, the name is Tenten, actually, but thanks—”
Neji rolled his pretty eyes spectacularly, without any real annoyance (when had he gotten so mushy?), and he scoffed a laugh. Of course she’d say that. “Oh, shut up.”
When she giggled again and nuzzled her face into that spot in his neck, he allowed himself to fully enjoy this moment, letting go of that knee-jerk guilt he felt whenever he got something good, for once.
And when, after a moment or two, she murmured a very quiet, “I love you, too, Neji. I’m glad you’re home,” into his skin, he let himself think he deserved it.

KHR OC QUESTION [MURAKAMI SIBLINGS]
i did it! i really liked the questions in this post, so decided to do the same with my characters. it's insanely fun to answer them, always come up with something new sometimes too 😭🫶🏻
@einsatzzz @social-muffin tagging you cause you asked!
General Questions:
1. What is their name? Their pronouns? Age? Gender identity? Sexuality? (if any of that matters lmao)
Name: Murakami Ichiro
Pronouns: He/him
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Sexuality: regular couple? yaoi couple? yuri couple? i see no difference love is love
Name: Murakami Nadeko (Nadeshiko)
Pronouns: She/her
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Sexuality: i may not show it but being attracted to hibari men really be giving me brain damage
Name: Murakami Itsuki
Pronouns: He/him
Age: 12
Gender: Male
Sexuality: no
2. Are they somehow related to another khr character? In what way?
Murakami family is one of the few Yakuza families that Tsuna has encountered in the mafia world. Unlike many other families, Murakami do not have a clear connection to Italian mafia, which means that having their young bosses meet could be beneficial for both sides, as predicted by Reborn. Murakami serve as additional characters that help Tsuna expand his understanding of the mafia world beyond what he already knows and add variety to his already unpredictable daily life.
3. What does your oc look like? Do you have any art of them? Picrew also welcomed! Ai art... Not preferred >:/
picrew for Ichiro, Nadeko and Itsuki!
Also I have this horrible messy sketch with three of them. I need to draw them properly… no idea how Ichiro’s hair works 💀💀💀💀
4. What are their relationships to other khr characters? Pairings you like with your oc? Adopted siblings and parents maybe?
Ichiro: It is evident that Ichiro shares a close relationship with Tsuna and frequently spends time with his inner circle. Ichiro's sociable and communicative nature is well-known to many at school and this includes Tsuna who sees him as a supportive and experienced senior who gives him guidance on life within the mafia (which makes his life more chaotic at times). Additionally, Ichiro has a good relationship with Yamamoto as he frequently assists various clubs in their activities.
Nadeko: Like Ichiro, she is a popular student in school because of her image as a perfect and impeccable student. She interacts frequently with the main cast, although she doesn't necessarily enjoy it. Nadeko appeals to younger children like Lambo and I-Pin because she is kind to them, and she also faces Hibari, who is one of the few people who can see beyond her facade as a diligent student. It's as if she is a predator masquerading as a herbivore.
Itsuki: Itsuki regularly interacts with the main cast primarily due to his relationship with Ichiro and Nadeko. He occupies a middle ground because he typically does not openly initiate communication and has difficulty expressing himself compared to the other siblings. While he doesn't have much interaction with Tsuna, he has formed a bond with Haru, first meeting her through Tsuna. Itsuki shows a knack for interacting with children, particularly Futa, and he likely engages with them more than with others.
5. Actually what's the family situation of your oc? Do they have siblings that's a background character perhaps? (example: sometimes I give Kusakabe Tetsuya a brother)
From their last name, it is clear that the three of them are siblings who share a less than ideal family situation. Raised by babysitters, tutors, and occasionally by their grandfather, their parents are either deceased or disinterested in their well-being. Among all their caretakers, Ryo, their current caretaker and literally everything else, in Namimori, is the most normal. Their grandfather did a fine job as a Boss, but as a parent, he is horrible. The only commendable thing he did was sending them to Namimori to experience a relatively normal life. Unfortunately, this didn't quite work out as intended.
6. Does your oc have a mental illness? Neurodivergencies? Other disabilities? At what age did they get these disabilities if they weren't born with them?
....Yes.... they have..... hahahahahaha.... Let's move on to the next question, otherwise if i take this one apart it's going to take a bunch of time
7. If they had a super power what would it be?
Tough question, there are a lot of superpowers I could give them..... Well, let's say:
Ichiro: Magma Manipulation
Nadeko: Flower Petal Manipulation
Itsuki: Telepathy
KHR Specific Questions
1. What's their flames? And how many flames do they have? One? More? None?
Ichiro: Sky Flame
Nadeko: Storm Flame (predominant); Sky Flame
Itsuki: Mist Flame
2. How do they use their flames? If they have one.
Ichiro and Nadeko infuse it into their weapons, but Itsuki lacked any conventional weaponry. In the future, he would rely more heavily on illusions. He may not be a professional illusionist, but the potential for growth is there.
3. If they don't have a flame, how do they fight? Do they fight at all?
Ichiro: He is proficient with the naginata and can swiftly adapt to using any available long stick as a substitute. However, his skills are not limited to weapons alone; he also excels in hand-to-hand combat, delivering painful blows with precision and force.
Nadeko: Although she is skilled in self-defense techniques, Nadeko's preference is to wield her cherished katana as her primary choice of weapon.
Itsuki: Among his siblings, Itsuki is the least combat-oriented. He only possesses basic self-defense skills, and lacks conventional weapons. In a critical situation, he may have to rely on his quick-wittedness in hopes of evading danger until help arrives.
4. If they can't fight for any reason, what's their preferred method of self defense?
Ichiro: Fight till the bitter end! He embraces the art of never giving up, and is willing to risk himself, even down to the last drop of blood. For him, giving up is not an option!
Nadeko: If she recognizes that her chances of winning are slim, she will attempt to extricate herself from the conflict with any means necessary. Winning is also an option if the situation allows. In the end, it all depends on the circumstances at play.
Itsuki: Prior to developing his illusion-based abilities, Itsuki is generally not inclined towards conflict and will typically avoid engaging in fights whenever possible. However, if the situation truly requires it, he may stand his ground and make use of his wits in an attempt to gain the upper hand.
KHR Character Questions:
1. How much does Tsuna want to protect your oc upon first meeting them? After knowing them a minute, is Tsuna now scared of them or worried about them?
Upon first meeting these three, Tsuna would likely exhibit a desire to shield them from the dark side of the mafia due to their unfortunate circumstances. Following a brief interaction, however, his perception of them would swiftly evolve. He would come to trust and respect Ichiro as a reliable senior, albeit someone who occasionally loses restraint. Nadeko would invoke both awe and fear in Tsuna sometimes, while Itsuki would be seen more as a calm and friendly individual.
2. Does Reborn think they're pathetic or does he have a slight respect for them? If he suddenly appeared out of a wall-hole, how would your oc react?
Ichiro: He has all the qualities that a good boss needs, and is able to help Tsuna grow. However, he still has room to grow and learn.
Nadeko: Takes on more than she can handle. A little pathetic.
Itsuki: Has a lot of opportunities for development and growth. Could become an important figure in the mafia world if he wanted to.
3. Would Hibari Kyoya be able to stand being in a room with them for five minutes? How long do they last in a fight against him?
Ichiro: He’s a pretty outgoing guy, but very aware of which people he shouldn't touch. But he'd love to get into a fight with Hibari. Unfortunately for the rest.
Nadeko: It's Nadeko, not Hibari, who probably couldn't stand it. He sees right through her, which annoys Nadeko quite a bit and he tries his best to provoke her into a fight. Nadeko holds out, but very poorly.
Itsuki: They just sit in silence.
4. Would your oc go off rambling about crytids with Gokudera? If yes, which is their fave cryptid?
Ichiro: Knows about cryptids from Miyako. Has no idea what it is, but would love to hear about it! Again.
Nadeko: No, Nadeko isn't really interested in that, and she and Gokudera have a... Strained relationship.
Itsuki: Not only due to his connection to Miyako, but also because of his personal interest, Itsuki proves to be quite adept at discussing and understanding cryptids and urban legends. Though his primary interest lies within Japanese urban lore, he is still eager to engage in conversations about the supernatural and mysterious topics.
5. Would Skull try to flirt with them? Would he score a date? Pity date or genuine interest?
With a date and flirt i think the answer is clear for three of them and it’s no 😭😭😭
6. How loud does your oc cheer when Yamamoto hits a home run? What if the ball hit them?
Ichiro: His overwhelming support for his friends and family could often make others feel awkward due to its enthusiastic and unabashed nature. Whenever Yamamoto took center stage, Ichiro would be right there in the first row, shouting encouragement with fervor and holding up cheering placards. Will the ball hit him? It's okay! He'll catch.
Nadeko: Her approach to supporting her friends, such as Yamamoto, is somewhat more reserved and composed. She prefers to offer her regards and well wishes beforehand and may only engage in mild cheers during the actual event.
Itsuki: Like his sister, Itsuki tends to take a more peaceful approach to supporting others and, in this case, would simply offer his well wishes and observe the game attentively. Loud cheering isn't part of Itsuki's repertoire, and he doesn't always enjoy such events altogether.
7. Would your oc be able to last an hour watching over Lambo, I-pin and Fuuta? What if they all had sugar beforehand?
Ichiro: Of course! Ichiro, being the cheerful and fun-loving individual he is, would happily offer to babysit the little ones. However, the safety and well-being of the children under his care during such an endeavor is another matter.
Nadeko: The kids generally adore Nadeko, but her approach is a bit more disciplined compared to Ichiro. She's less likely to let them do whatever they wish, and Futa and I-Pin can usually be made to listen to her directions. However, Lambo can sometimes be a bit of a wild card, causing some difficulties when it comes to keeping him under control.
Itsuki: Indeed, Itsuki would also take part in entertaining and engaging with the children, with Futa especially taking a particular liking to him. He has a knack for finding activities to keep them occupied, even managing to engage the excitable Lambo in something other than causing mischief.
8. What food would Sawada Nana cook for your oc? What's their favourite food? Drink?
Ichiro: His relationship with spice is quite remarkable — he enjoys food that's so fiery it challenges even the strongest stomach. If you find your meal for him isn't spicy enough, don't worry! He carries his beloved hot sauce everywhere, ready to add an extra kick to any dish. Interestingly, the only exception is sweets — those Ichiro leaves unadorned with his spicy condiment. So yeah. Poor Tsuna
Nadeko: She harbors a deep affection for traditional Japanese sweets, particularly mochi, dango, and taiyaki. However, she isn't limited to just those options and would happily indulge in sweet cakes or cookies accompanied by a comforting cup of tea.
Itsuki: His true love lies in noodles — he enjoys udon especially, but would also happily consume soba or ramen. His taste isn't restricted to only one type of noodle. Itsuki doesn't have a particularly strong sweet tooth, yet he won't turn down a slice of apple pie. He also loves honey
That's it! I hope it was interesting. Next up will be Kaguya, Miyako, and Kei!

I think a magical girl AU for KHR (i know ive made one but discard that) could work in hilarious ways with reborn arcobaleno being tsuna's magical guide. And he doesn't want to be a magical girl (or boy but to me magical girl is a genderless job term like doctor and mafia boss) but like, what's he gonna do when a monster attacks the school and kyoko-chan is in danger? Save her of course. He's glad PE got cancelled though.
Then once he gets a taste of being able to save people he starts doing more and more. Then you can have gokudera joining in like kyoko from pmmm, a rival magical girl from another town moving into the territory. Who is his magical companion? No fucking clue. You decide.
Hibari gets tilted that this fucking magical girl is IN HIS TERRITORY and DOING HIS JOB and FIGHTING THINGS WITHOUT HIM that he keeps trying to track MG!Tsuna down. Hijinks happen with Tsuna being able to assume his nondescript normal boy form and narrowly escaping hibari every time.
Yamamoto finds an idol in MG!Tsuna because she's always trying her best all the time! He joins the fan club. Thinfs get very awkward for Tsuna when Yamamoto finds one of the MG weapons in Tsuna's possession but incorrectly assumes its a toy version tsuna made because tsunas a fan too. They attend the fan club together.
Mukuro obviously is either a magical girl gone rogue or working for the nebulous magical girl enemies that gets converted to being somewhat allies against a greater threat. Likely mukuro's crew got targetted by the nebulous enemies, leading to mukuro and tsuna having to work together to rescue them.
Ryohei's just there. I dont really know what to do with him. He should have the funniest fucking crush on MG!Tsuna.
Lastly reborn and the other arcobaleno are revealed to be under a curse, as you do, and that they were the previously chosen magical girl group or something and this is the end result for every magical girl like pmmm or, well, khr
Im sure I'm missing stuff DO @ me abt it

In Bleach it's kind of rare for men and women to look like they have muscles, even Ichigo looks like a stick most of the time, so I raise you, a Fem!Ichigo that looks like Daidouji, this absolute goddess of pure muscle and boobs big enough to satisfy bleach style
It could be Zaraki Ichigo, Oyabun Ichigo, Delinquent Ichigo, straight up Just A Normal Student Ichigo that occasionally beats bullies, but she looks like this and is allergic to cover up her abs (like she should, because we mortals need something nice in this world)
(Daidouji also looks like a Fem!Hibari, from KHR, and Fem!Hibari would definitely had kidnapped Tsuna on sight when she noticed that the small animal could grow fangs to protect what is his (she would definitely steal Kyoko's spot as the love interest, and the way her design is different from the other woman there? Tsuna wouldn't know how to react because oh god she's wearing a skirt and oh god her thighs are thicker than his arms– TSUNA.EX HAS STOPPED WORKING)
(this woman has awoken something in me when I saw her for the first time, I tell you that, and maybe Tsuna's reaction was my reaction, but let's ignore that)
Look no no I'm seeing it, I'm really seeing all of it. You have such vision

i was really hesitant to share her despite the fact that she is one of my favorite too. but cringe is dead. I’m free
(picrew: x)
her name is hibari kotori. you're right, yes. she's hibari's sister. younger? older? twin? no one has any idea because her personal information dissemination is on the same level as hibari's. anyway, her last name is the only thing that makes her a hibari relative. in everything else, few people would think they are related at all. kotori is outgoing and friendly, extremely social, she knows everyone but?… kotori is part of the journalism committee and always aware of all the rumors in the school and passes on all the information to hibari.
their relationship is not what you would call.... typical sibling relationship, they seem to have some personally special bond that no one understands. kotori admires her brother, hibari cares for her in his own way. they are the kind of siblings who can stare at each other in silence for long period of time and the others would not understand whether they are communicating telepathically or not. she has a weapon! and it's a naginata!

Why is Cloud flame and its box weapon so... weird
Okay so before I talk myself into a corner, I'd like to establish my observation: the Cloud box weapons all have propagation factor, but they can only either multiply in number, or change size.
Like, with Iris, her way of using her flame was fairly basic in usage. She used her box weapon, a Cloud whip, to whip her cloud receptive slaves and propagated their muscle mass, sometimes even elongated their bone to make them bigger (in a rather unnatural way). Its straight forward, easy to understand, it's a propagation in size.
Next, Kikyo. His dinosaur box weapon was rather... normal in the large scheme of thing tbh. It made him into this... Hydra-Dinosaur-Medusa thing. His hair grew into spinosaurus heads that follows the common rule of Cloud's attribution: multiplication in number.
Honorable mention to Lal Mirch's box weapon, Cloud Centipede that could change its size and length, but not number.
However, Hibari's Cloud Hedgehog, Roll, funnily enough, could do both. And, horrifyingly enough, more.
So, Roll's usage could actually be splitted into 2 categories: how adult Hibari used it, and how baby Hibari used it. So, Roll under adult Hibari only propagated in size. It could expand, thicken, become thin layer and act a shield for Hibari, or roll forward. But never multiplied in number.
Furthermore, after being fed so much flame that its box got broken, it can do shit like this... like... how?! I don't recall any Box Weapon based on living creature can become a separate space the way Roll did.
Tbh, I have a rather... bizarre headcanon for this. It could be because of Hibari's secondary Mist Flame with its construction factor that mix in with the Cloud Flame to influence the Box Weapon (also like, the dimension thing kinda similar with what Mukuro's Vongola Gear can do yk). And only adult Hibari can do this because he has more experience with Mist Flame and more open to use it. But then Cloud Hedgehog is only for Cloud flame so it's impossible for his Mist to seep through. Unless his wave energy is already an incredible mix between Cloud and Mist, like Xanxus's Flame of Wrath, so much so that it can't be distinguish through Cloud rings, and Roll's also affected by this. And could this also be the reason that normal Cloud rings couldn't withstand his flame, thus break upon 1 use?
Also can we talk about how he had two, the same exact Cloud Hedgehog boxes? Like we're told that there only 343 designs based on living things made by Geppetto Lorenzini, and Verde team made 343 boxes based on the designs. Are you telling me at least 2 (because he clearly tried the Reverse technique once before, so at least one box had been broken to do it) of those boxes are of the same design? cus the numbers are not adding up.
Ok, moving on to baby Hibari. Now baby Hibari used Roll in the Vongola version, and X version more. But there's a snippet when we see him using the OG version, and upon being fed so much flame that it went berserk, it multiplied both in size and in number.
There's only one difference between the two Hibari: the Vongola Cloud Ring. Like adult Hibari only got one chance to put however much flame he could in the box before the ring broke, and the hedgehog would have to do bunch of stuffs with just that reserve before it went back into the box. (God adult Hibari was basically nerfed during the whole Future Arc, imagine if he got more Cloud rings or just the Vongola Cloud Ring. He'd probably solo the whole base)
Could this be the same for other Cloud boxes? That they require much much more Cloud flame for both of the factors to be used. What does it say about Hibari's flame, that afterward, when he had the Vongola version and X version, he went on and did insane shits like these? Like how strong, vast and dense his Cloud Flame has to be so that he can fight like this?
Okay, a little side track into weird flame territory since we're talking about it, let's discuss Skull. Skull is interesting in the way that his flame usage is rather similar to Iris', which is basically the propagation of human cells. But unlike Iris whose control is rather crude, as there is little to no finesse in the way those slaves' muscle grow (they grew in places that muscle shouldn't have been, pushing each other and probably crushing their own bones with their muscle mass), Skull's control on his Cloud Flame is absolute and instance. His cells grew instantly the moment he was hit, so much so that even when he got a critical hit from Squalo, he remained fine, albeit a bit hurt.
Now, human' cells have things like genetic code and more to tell them what they're and where they would be and how they would grow, so they could automatically slot into place during the propagation process. But it's the control Skull has that he could grow just enough of what he need, and not accidentally grow, idk, an extra finger or giving himself cancer, and that makes him incredibly strong and I don't think enough ppl is talking abt it (like just think about the potential)
Other than that, we have a rather fascinating OP factor of Cloud flame in general and Skull in particular. They can absorb other Flames. Other than Tsuna's Zero Point Breakthrough: Revised where his Sky Flame harmonize with other's and absorb it, no other flames is able to do this, other than Cloud. And if we went with how Hibari said it, it's sort of its default function.
And Skull? Oh he's just straight up absorb the whole flame attack from, what? four Varia. Like ez pz home boy only whine because he's hurt from Squalo's sword attack.
My working theory for this is because in nature, cloud has already been rather... versatile and can be affected by other elements (sun, lighting) to change and thus creating other phenomenon (rain, storm); also mist is like... thinner ground version of cloud anyway. And Skull's using his own body as a flame conductor, thus directly absorb other Flame types to himself. Though his flame isn't Sky, there's no harmonizing factor to neutralize the Rain, Storm, Lighting and Sun attributes. His body is probably fighting itself to stabilize, or using those attributes to stabilize each other (his Cloud can swallow the Sun since they're similar, the Rain's tranquility can block and neutralize the Storm and Lighting too) (Now it'd be funny if Skull got shot by Tsuna's X-burner, like would Skull's Cloud strong enough to absorb Tsuna's concentrated Sky Flame like I'm curious.)
#khr#khr meta#this is supppper long#and ranty#i'm a bit insane about them forgive me#Cloud Flame#Hibari Kyoya#skull de mort#there might be a separate post for hibari's vongola gear bc there's this tiny difference that I'm still confused abt

Chapter 1081: Heartbroken
Me, reading this chapter:
Okay, let’s start with the stuff on Hachinosu:
Garp and his ship land in the wake of the giant explosion at the end of last chapter. He’s worried he’s losing his touch while everyone else looks on in horror at the thought that this is what losing a step looks like. (Just saying, Akainu should be sending Sengoku flowers and chocolates for saving his life at Marineford when he stopped Garp from attacking.)
Moreover, thankfully we don’t have to wait for Garp and Coby to reunite.
But there is a complication: turns out Kuzan is actually on Hachinosu after all (which leaves Lafitte and Catarina Devon to potentially be on the ship heading to Egghead). I am genuinely surprised by this; I felt fairly certain Kuzan would be at Egghead with all the Ohara references. But now I’m wondering if Kuzan will cross paths with the Straw Hats at Elbaf... which is also where Saul is. That would be something.
(Also, I still want to know where Smoker is.)
Kuzan announces his presence by freezing Hibari.
So, this could be a coincidence, but there’s also a potential for something more dramatic here. There are theories floating around that Hibari is Akainu’s daughter, so Kuzan freezing her here could be a sort of revenge against the man who cost him the position of Fleet Admiral and his leg.
We also get a flashback to Kuzan joining the Blackbeard Pirates:
NGL, it’s pretty sus that Kuzan and Blackbeard just happened to end up at the same place. I don’t feel like this stops the speculation that Kuzan is undercover, especially considering some of the things he says:
Back at Ohara, he says
Later, when he saves Smoker from Doflamingo on Punk Hazard, he tells Smoker
(Side note, this is very much like what Law tells Smoker about why he became a Warlord--seeing things at a different angle.)
Kuzan, despite being with Blackbeard at this point, is calling himself independent. And he says,
Which brings us to what he says on Hachinosu:
He’s acting according to his own wishes, not the World Government’s and not Blackbeard’s. After all, consider what Blackbeard says when he recruits Kuzan:
Kuzan clearly has his own agenda here--one he’s had in mind and has been inspired by for a long time, only now he feels free to act on it--and if he has to fight Garp to keep up his place in their midst until his goals are achieved, he will do so.
(I just want to take a moment to note that we have yet another contrast between Blackbeard and Luffy; Luffy’s crew is full of his friends who fight for one another and want to help each other achieve their dreams. Blackbeard’s crew is entirely transactional.)
The way he phrases the need to make sure Coby isn’t rescued is also telling:
The optics would be bad for his mission if Coby got out in his watch, and that’s the only concern. He’s not a true believer here; he’s doing what is necessary for whatever his mission is.
So, Kuzan is an immovable object and Garp is an unstoppable force. They collide.
AND NOW TO THE PART OF THE CHAPTER THAT WILL BE LIVING RENT FREE IN MY BRAIN FOR THE REST OF FOREVER.
Oh no.
WELL, THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY.
This panel... hit me like a physical blow. Law’s been on the Tang since he was 16. I’m emotional about it.
Law whumps so pretty, sorry not sorry. (Add this to the file with him on the Heart Throne in Dressrosa and being tortured in Wano.) Bepo is... really adorable? And I love that the two of them are together here? Bepo’s with his captain, and I cry. This was also a brutal fight since it was Blackbeard and three Titanic commanders vs. the Hearts.
And another Rocky Port mention:
So, this confirms that Law got his hundred hearts at Rocky Port, and they’re all still on Hachinosu.
Meanwhile, Bepo (in another adorable panel) eats a new rumble ball from Chopper. (Can we talk about Chopper making this for Bepo? Chopper, bb, I love you so much.)
Law, stop being so pretty while you’re bloodied up.
Blackbeard knows about the Perennial Youth Operation, which is not surprising since he’s been hunting down Devil Fruits and Law’s is known as the Ultimate Devil Fruit. It’s interesting, too, that when Blackbeard ambushes Law, he says it’s for Law’s poneglyphs, but when Law is defeated, he talks about his Devil Fruit instead.
(Speaking of Law’s poneglyphs, did Blackbeard get them? With the Tang sinking and the captain and navigator escaping... wouldn’t it be ironic if he ambushed Law for his poneglyphs only to forget to take them in his victory.)
AND CHOPPER’S GIFT LETS BEPO GO SULONG WITHOUT THE FULL MOON. HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE.
This bear, who is constantly apologizing for silly things, TAKES ON BLACKBEARD AND HIS TITANIC CAPTAINS to protect Law. I love their friendship so much.
Bepo takes Law and escapes in the sea. (Fun fact, polar bears can swim about 6 mph/10 kmh, and the longest known distance a polar bear has swum is 220 miles/354 km. So, Bepo is capable of getting Law to safety.)
Also, Law is leaving his hat and Kikoku behind -- two of his most visible signifiers. This... this hurts.
I am genuinely heartbroken by this moment. We know how much Law cares for his crew; he sent them to Zou to protect them from Doflamingo, and he gave himself up to be tortured in Wano to rescue Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin. He takes his role protecting his people very seriously, so he begs Bepo to turn around even though he’s in no shape to do anything. He just won’t abandon them (reminds me of him refusing to abandon Luffy if he were to die in Dressrosa).
But Bepo tells Law to trust in the Hearts. They’re tough and they’re survivors. This makes me think the Hearts will survive and regroup offscreen while Law and Bepo get away. (I can’t help but think, though, about the Hearts scattered on Winner Island and in the water and how Blackbeard is involved in the slave trade. Could you imagine the rage if Blackbeard sold the Hearts into slavery and Law had to rescue them? Or, if Blackbeard brings the survivors back as prisoners and lets the pirates with missing hearts at them... Yikes.)
Despite being conscious, Law must be in really bad shape for Bepo to be worried about him dying here. (I get that going underwater is safer against threats like Van Augur here, but Law is a badly-wounded Devil Fruit eater... he’s not going to be able to stay under very long, Bepo, heh.)
I want to examine, for a second, the way the defeat of the Hearts is framed versus the defeat of the Kid Pirates (versus the defeat of the Straw Hats in Sabaody).
“Winner Island, New World. On this day, the Heart Pirates, led by Trafalgar Law, were soundly defeated.”
“On this day, in the New World by Elbaf, the Kid Pirate crew, led by Eustass ‘Captain’ Kid, a man worth 3 billion, was completely eradicated.”
“Grove 12, Sabaody Archipelago, the Grand Line. That day, the Straw Hat Pirates, led by Captain Monkey D. Luffy, were eradicated.”
It’s quite noticeable how much more dramatically both the Kid Pirates’ and the Straw Hats’ defeats were described. For one thing, the descriptions of the Kid Pirates’ and Straw Hats’ defeats are more flowery.
Plus, the use of the word “eradicated,” which sounds permanent. Obviously, the Straw Hats weren’t permanently broken up, but they are separated for two years. It’s a dramatic defeat. We don’t know what happened to the Kid Pirates, but it didn’t look good, as both Kid and Killer, who can’t swim, were thrown into the water. On the other hand, the Hearts are described as being “defeated” while Law and Bepo escape.
So, what comes next? On the one hand, it would make a lot of sense for Bepo to get Law to safety and then call the Straw Hats. This could be a great excuse to get Law back onto the Sunny for the duration, especially since his goal to learn about the Will of D. is aligned with Luffy’s without competing with his. Plus, you know Luffy wouldn’t hesitate to help Law.
On the other hand, if we think about where Law is in conjunction to the other two captains...
He’s closer to Elbaf than Egghead. It would not shock me if we start to see all these plotlines (Straw Hats, Kuzan, Law) converge on Elbaf.
Ugh, this chapter has completely wrecked me.

Nana’s Tsu-kun is in high school when he first makes a friend in his grade
Sure he has Hibari and Mukuro, but they’re both years older than her little boy. And there’s Uni, but she’s in Italy most of the time
So she’s excited when she gets an invitation to go with her son to little Takeshi’s house
And when she gets there she sees Tsuyoshi and for half a second she wishes she had never met Iemitsu
(It’s not true, of course, because for all of that man’s faults, she’d never have had her Tsu-kun without him)
She sees the way he keeps keen, sharp, protective eyes over the two boys trudging through their school work together and wants
Because that is what a father should be, not gone and away and almost downright cruel
She indulges for a moment, fantasizes about a world where she could divorce Iemitsu. Where she could have a good father for her child and have another son
It’s still just a fantasy, because even with Reborn backing her, divorce has always been too much of a risk. She could lose her Tsu-kun
(A few months later, that ‘fantasy’ has her seriously pondering if she should take up Reborn’s offer to make Iemitsu quietly disappear. It had always seemed a bit too cruel for all the wrongs he had done, but now? She questions what she really wants)
He had made the offers every year like clockwork from the very first time he found Nana nearly incandescent with rage when Iemitsu had “forgotten” to send money for the house and groceries just in time for Tsuna’s second birthday that he also wouldn’t be attending.
“I could take care of him.”
Nana pressed her lips together before she could reflexively agree. For his faults he didn’t deserve that… yet.
Reborn tipped his hat down, hiding his eyes even as he said: “I could take care of you.”
Such similar words with completely different meanings. Still.
“I can’t, Reborn. He will do everything in his power to take Tsuna from me.”
And so it had gone for years, with Rebron offering his hand and Nana refusing him with a smile and her chin held high. Her Tsu-kun was more important than her comfort. She couldn’t risk Iemitsu getting custody of him. Couldn’t bear to have him taken from her.
But oh how she was tempted as years passed. How she was tempted when her stay-mum made a friend and took her with him to meet his father. How she was tempted when she saw Yamamoto Tsuyoshi watching over both of their sons with the same protective fire that burned in her chest whenever she saw her baby.
(How she was tempted with lingering but still polite touches and beautiful bentos crafted for her and her son and those burning eyes watching over her like she was something worth protecting. Worth going to war for.)
She is tempted but she never comes close to agreeing until Iemitsu is drunk and glaring at her Tsu-kun and the boy he brought home for the holidays with a building rage. Until he opens his mouth and cruelty spills forth aimed at her son. Until Tsuna had shown the briefest flash of hurt before his own anger sparked.
Perhaps it time to accept Reborn’s offer after all.
